Concerning incident. I have been to Tune Inn before and think its a dismal place with horrible food and sticky bar tops - but its an institution and I returned last week for drinks with friends. At Tune Inn last week I had 2 Moscow Mules- and didn't even finish the second one but was drunker than I have EVER been in my life and physically ill/unable to walk and stand on my own - multiple people thought I had been drugged. Now I'm not saying that is necessarily true - especially bc I was sitting at a table so another bar patron was presumably not able to slip something into my drink and it would have had to be a bar tender or server. I must say this is a hidden gem in the capital area! The ambience is so comfortable, food was fantastic, drinks delicious and all so reasonably priced in such a high priced world right now!! We ordered their famous roast beef sandwich with French fries and a side of O'rings, YUM!! The special sauce on the sandwich was so good! And a big shout out to James! Visited in the afternoon of July 12, 2025. The server was absolutely rude and inattentive. When myself and another guest said please and thank you, she did not acknowledge us multiple times. After asking for a drink refill, she went back to the bar and spent 10 minutes helping her friend find a channel on the television . Eventually, I walked up to the bar and ask for my refill again. ( Bar area had eight people) .Observed her treating other guests the same way. The roast beef was horrendous. The meat was dry and the bread was stale. This our second night in DC and the second night we opted for a small local diner. Looks like Tune Inn is a no nonsense restaurant/bar and it is filled with photographs and other memorabilia. Our server was quiet and efficient and had our beverages immediately. The food is amazing! For the second night in a row we loved the comfort food they provided. And not only was the food great, there was a lot of it! Even more gratifying was the price. Great value !! We braved the rain all day so Tune Inn's comfortable setting, good food, and value made this an awesome find. My wife and I both agree that we would recommend this spot to anyone!! Ahhh, so many good times here at Tune Inn. When I worked on Capitol Hill, this was the place to hang out after work. You can find a lot of preppy congressional staffers post-business with loosened ties and hair pulled back. It's a dive bar, so nothing fancy, which is how I like it. Tune Inn is known for a lot of things, like rubbing elbows with a congressman who's also enjoying the same half-pound burger you're eating at the table next to yours. But they have a beer-battered burger that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, which is what many visitors come here for. I finally tried Tony's beer battered burger, which was featured on triple D. And it was A-OK. I thought the batter was unnecessary, and surprisingly, the burger was bland. Fries were crispy though, as they always are here. I'd say get a regular burger and you'd be happier. Plus, the beers are cheap. I still like Tune Inn though, despite not agreeing with Guy Fieri on this one. The dive bar is chill, laid-back and is something much-needed on abrasive Capitol Hill. People may be snobby to you in the halls of congress, especially from the other side of the aisle; but come to Tune Inn once happy hour hits, and the same person is knocking back beers with you. This place was a good find; we were looking for somewhere else and saw that there were lots of patrons enjoying the summer evening outside in front of the place. Circled the block and decided to try them out. Excellent service, good ambiance and the food was great! The burgers are phenomenal. I had the grilled cheese with bacon with onion rings. Tried to get an Uber but couldn't...and we were right in front of Tune Inn, so decided to stop in for a few minutes to cool off. First some cold beers for the wife and I, sodas for the kids. We found this place while sightseeing. We stopped in for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised the food and service were amazing.

The last 3 trips we've taken to DC, we've stopped at Tune Inn since we really enjoy the food. Unfortunately, the service just keeps getting worse and worse every visit and this past visit will be our last. Our server was very reluctant to be helpful for our table. My wife sat with an empty cup for most of the visit which was never refilled. I eventually just poured my drink into her's and I was given a refill when I asked (the one time she didn't have headphones on). Our server walked around the whole time with Beats headphones on so when we'd try to get her attention for something, obviously, she wouldn't hear us. (almost like it was intentional) She never asked us if we needed anything, never asked how our meal was, nothing. Amazing service but a gentleman that has worked here for 14 years. He even brought us Mozzarella Sticks without us ordering them. He wanted us to try them because they have won contests. They were AMAZING! Best I've ever head. The prices on the yelp menu are wrong. Everything is about $5 more expensive. But worth it. Super cool vibe with very limited seating and off the beaten path from the Smithsonian's so not busy at all. The fish and chips were the best I've EVER had. An actual whole filet that is fried. This is the place that Democrat strategist James Carville and Republican operative Mary Matalin, had their first date. Married with kids and happy decades later, it's the Tune Inn Magic. Solid dive bar that gives you what a dive bar gives. Greasy, good, but nothing spectacular food, but with spectacular, local company and vibes. This is the true old school, non-yuppy DC everyone knew and loved before Navy Yard and NoMa blew up. Always great for a late night bite and beer. read more

This restaurant and bar has character. More of a dive bar, an old DC watering hole. If only those walls could talk I'd bet there be some stories and scandals. Past a few newer restaurants and hipper places before stopping here, mainly because we were looking for a quick bite and there were plenty of seating available. The burger was pretty good, as were the sweet potato fries. Didn't drink here because I was working, so only judging them on the vibe and the burger. Our server was friendly and attentive. Four stars as it is exactly what it says it is: neighborhood dive bar while DC still fights to have "neighborhoods". What does dive bar suggest to you? To me, local, no frills, keep the drink and food simple, and if ya come back two or three times, people will remember you. Appreciate the fact the Tune Inn stays open late, the kitchen is Willing to prepare something up until the very last minute, and the drinks are still comparatively cheap, especially in a Capitol Hill district that only grows more expensive. Classic apps, burgers, Americana fast fare .... Excellent place to grab a drink locale and talk and banter, catch up, and, equally excellent last drink of the night between friends, been drinking and need food. C'Mon! How can one refuse a meat patty dipped in beer batter then deep fried golden brown and served as a hamburger? Not this guy! That burger was dope!! I was expecting it to be dripping in serious grease but in actuality it was as if the burger was cooked on a griddle. I needed a down home meal to hit the spot after a day of working the halls of Congress and meeting with our senior senator. Ok so I've been to Tune Inn for a casual beer before and have generally had good experiences with them for a quick drink at the bar, but I made the unforgivable mistake of sitting down to eat here recently. After waiting a solid 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge we existed at our table we were treated to a display of poor service I can only imagine will be used in text books for years to come. Our "waiter" started by ignoring us and then moved on to a "what you want" style of order taking. In the middle of our order he stopped, walked away, and helped seat another table. Then he came back and had us order again with no apology or even a recognition of how rude he was being. After our order he walked off without saying thanks or even acknowledging we were done. He only returned moments later to bark for us to put up our menus. Full on terrible service experience from a place that should know and demand better. Visited the Tune Inn after work with some co-workers at their recommendation. However, I was not very impressed. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and it was actually decent but nothing crazy. However, my side salad was mediocre, the service was subpar, and they only accept cash so after ATM fees (coincidently they don't have an ATM in store) I ended up paying an extra $6.50 for my meal. We heard "your food will be right out" at least 4 times. - I believe this is a *management* issue, and seems like complacency. I've worked in food service, and believe it requires teamwork to be effective and fast. Our server was the only one waiting tables. At the time: a 2-top, 4-top, 2x 3-tops, and an 8 top. Just on the edge of too much. What I saw that bothered me was the bartender going in and out of the kitchen, and in and out...empty handed. He never delivered food to a table; never picked up a check to bring to the waitress. Our server, on the other hand, was hands full constantly. Food: - Patties were very well done; over-done. The server didn't ask us how we wanted them, so I had a feeling they'd come out well. Maybe I own some of that, but if the menu says "cooked to order" please ask me. It should be well-melted, and melted over the meat, especially with such a done burger. Sauteed onions were there, but in short supply. Strange. - Deep Fried Burger: Also overdone.
