We heard about this place from locals and they were right. It was amazing. We had the steak and eggs and the duck hash. The steak was flavorful although small and the duck itself was just ok. The hash and eggs and Chile sauces were incredible. The overall experience was delicious, cute ambiance, leaving you wanting more. Moderately priced and close to the plaza area. Pretty easy 5 stars. Where to begin. First I guess believe the negative reviews. I saw a few and thought eh maybe they had a couple of bad days but for the most part things look good. Wish I had taken more heed of the negatives. Walking in the place was hectic but not crowded. Probably should have been our first clue. There was roughly A 1/1 ratio of customers to servers (usually a good thing). We got sat down and then didn't see anyone for about 10 minutes. Once someone came to take our order (and brought us glasses with warm water) we ordered food and drinks. We had 2 vegan and gluten free diners in our party (due to allergy) and they asked about the menu and which items would be safe for them. 1 decided on veggie enchiladas while the other opted for the combo plate both were assured vegetarian and gluten free could be accommodated. When the drinks arrived one of the glasses had lipstick on it (not quite my shade). The food was delivered and that was the last time we saw a server. My plate had a large black hair on it (I am a bald man so this is always jarring). The combo plate which was ordered vegan had chicken and cheese. The enchiladas (also ordered vegan) had cheese and sour cream. I am never the type to send anything back (always concerned about kitchen retribution) but it wasn't even an option here as no one stopped by to check on us. No drink refills no nothing. Avoid this place at all cost if you have dietary allergies. Honestly even if you don't, avoid this place even the food that was edible (we had 2 burgers without hair/allergens etc) was underwhelming. read more

The bananas were cooked like plantains and were wonderful! The tortillas were good, but they fell apart. Overall, and amazing mix of ingredients. This dish should be on the regular menu. Great service and plenty of seating inside and outside. There were a lot of flies surrounding the tables outside, which was a bit of an annoyance. A short drive from the Plaza (1.8 miles). I absolutely love this place. We only visited SF for five days and ate here three times! Perfect place for folks with Celiac.

Yum!!! We had no idea what to expect when we came here! We were delightfully surprised to see they serve a el Salvadoran food! *I had never tried it before so I have no other experiences to compare it to.* What I ordered: I excited ordered the el Salvadoran pupusas. They were delicious corn cakes with veggies and queso. Server with picked veggies and salsa. It was soooo filling and delicious. It was definitely a heavier food so don't get it unless you're hungry! We also got coffee which was just okay. 4 stars because the food was great, but the restaurant itself seemed to be a hodge podge or leftover furniture someone had in their basement. To me, part of going out to eat it the experience of the surroundings as well as the service! You ordered at the counter and someone brought you your food. The workers were nice, but there were a couple of times I wish they had a water pitcher sitting out so I could refill my glass myself. The pupusas were great! TLDR: Inattentive, extremely rude waitress. Food was okay but ambiance and service was so bad the entire experience wasn't enjoyable. Arrived an hour before close after seven hours of driving and looking for an open late spot to grab some dinner. This place had good reviews and I was especially excited to try the banana leaf tamale. Unfortunately, the service was so bad it made it impossible to enjoy my stay. The server who take care of me never gave her name, but she was a woman with short brown hair. It took a while for her to notice me in her section then she proceeded to ignore me for an additional ten minutes before coming to take my order. I ordered a burger with sweet potato fries, and a banana leaf tamale. The tamale was good, and an interesting switch from the corn husk tamales I usually get. Burger was okay, and the sweet potato fries were really good. Definitely recommend swapping regular fries for sweet potato. When my order arrived, the side was wrong, and it had a pickle spear but no pickle chips to put on the burger. (Ik this is a little thing but I really like pickles and was craving a burger!) When the server finally came around to check, I tried to tell her that the side was wrong and I wanted pickle chips to put in my burger, but she walked away in the middle of my sentence. She returned almost 20 minutes later with the sweet potato fries, and I was finally able to tell her that I wanted pickles for the burger, and she very rudely informed me that they don't offer pickle chips at the restaurant. That is fine, I know not every restaurant does, but I specifically asked before ordering the burger what it came with, and I specifically asked for pickles to go on the burger when it first came out, which she might have heard had she not walked away mid-sentence. I really did not appreciate her tone, because there was no way for me to have known they didn't have pickle chips. It isn't written on the menu, and she didn't inform me otherwise when I was giving me order. The cherry on top of this experience was when she returned to the table unprompted and literally threw a steak knife onto the table and told me I could cut up the spear if I wanted pickles so bad. This used to be one of my favorite places in Santa Fe to treat myself but my last few visits have been extremely underwhelming. Last visit there was a gummy raw piece of chicken in my food and today a bunch of chicken bones and pieces of chicken that were hard as a rock. Such a bummer. Service has always been lackluster but I never minded because the food was so good. My plate today was a thrown together mess. The sauce was perfectly balanced, a bit sweet but mostly savory. My husband had a lamb burger and he enjoyed it. I hesitated to write this because I really like this place and the people who work there. Just not this morning. We ordered the Huevos Motulenos and it was a disaster. The menu advertises it with 'roasted tomato sauce' which sounded good. It turned out to be a brown puddle of water. The tortilla was a drenched mess and everything else in it was soggy. This isn't the way it should look. And my wife's latte was basically a glass of warm milk. Watery and tasteless. They must've used coffee instead of espresso. I was more disappointed than angry because I love its atmosphere. I don't know if they have a new cook, or what. I just hope the restaurant reads this and makes the necessary adjustments because something is wrong someplace. read more

The outdoor seating is nicely spaced out too. The food came out quickly and was beautifully plated. The lamb barbacoa was spectacular, really juicy and tender. The three dishes we ordered were - Huevos El Salvadorenos Corned Beef Hash and Kids Pancake- I ordered the Huevos Salvadorenos thinking I was getting a traditional salvadorian dish but I got fried bananas instead of the traditional Platanos to be fair the menu did say pan fried bananas but since it was Salavdorian I thought it would be Platanos it was not. Food was mediocre. But they do have a large selection of dishes and a pizza oven. I also got a piece of apple pie warmed up but the middle was freezing cold. We stopped in here to fuel up before a day of hiking . We chose Tune-Up Cafe because it seemed like a great local joint and their breakfast burrito had rave reviews. It is a cute small cafe where you order at the counter . There was a long line of locals that the server knew by name . We ordered our food - a breakfast Burrito with Chorizo, Banana Pancakes and a side of bacon. The food took quite a long time and "locals" who ordered after us received their food first . In fact, one person ordered after us, got their food, ate and read their book before we got our meals . The bacon was crispy, the pancakes were good and had a little crisp edge to them , the breakfast burrito was average and did not seem to have egg however it took so long to get the food we didn't want to wait any longer for a correction. The server came over at the very end of our meal and we commented that there seemed to be no egg . She did apologize and went back into the kitchen to question them. She returned and said that there was "finely scrambled egg" that is why we didn't see it or taste it . This information she received from the owner who claimed to have cooked the burrito, however he was walking around in the dining room the entire time . She did offer a side of eggs or a new burrito however at that point we had already eaten and it really wasn't that big of an issue for us . When we declined her offer she went back in the kitchen and loudly complained about the situation. So bottom line if you are a local and a regular I guess you will be treated well, anyone else good luck ! read more

The menu is remarkably eclectic with as many entrees on the chalkboard as on the extensive printed menu. The waitstaff is prompt, knowledgeable, friendly, cooperative, and top notch, but our waitress, Kristin, excelled in cooperative, attentive, service this evening.
