I'm not sure how to rate this. I loved the decor, and the food was great. We split a truffle burger and a caprese burger. Our server was fantasticly enthusiastic. The burgers were perfect. The price was not. The burgers are about the same level as you'd find at most upscale burger places, but $17 for a burger seemed abnormally excessive. While I'd love to make this a part of my lunchtime routine, I feel like there's not anything here that makes Tuning Fork $5 better than other places. I dined here on other Yelpers recommendation and I was so disappointed. I felt the beer selection was quite limited for a gastropub. I also found our server abrasive and unfriendly. Ordered a pint of beer and it came in a short glass. I mentioned it was listed as a pint (at 9$) and she said it was a misprint- but she reluctantly brought another glass of the same size to make up for it. The food was mediocre. And each dish seemed really underseasoned. That is the best way to describe the food. Just bland. Best thing were the Salmon Cakes. I had a veggie burger and asked the server if it was any good. She said she'd never tried it and doesn't eat veggie burgers. I would definitely recommend that management have the servers try the food so they can be more knowledgeable about the menu! so silly and simple! This review is based on two visits. 1st: Sunday - We came here on a day when they had just changed their chef. The service was great, the hostess and waitress were very friendly and helpful. LOVED their green beans, the tater tots AND SANGRIA! Also had the special apple tart with cheddar cheese.... My friend and I shared the burger, I liked it but he thought it wasn't all that great. It wasn't too busy so it was quiet and nice. 2nd: Thursday - Way more people inside and it suddenly became extremely loud. This was the first time visiting Tuning Fork and my boyfriend and I were so excited to try this place as the reviews were great. Unfortunately we did not enjoy this place. The food was ok, I ordered the All or nothing burger which wasn't cooked as I ordered. My boyfriend ordered the steak which was precut and it didn't state that in the menu. The service was horrible. It took about 30 min to get our drinks, another 30 to get our food and another about 30 min to get the check. That is because our waitress took her break and the other worker we said they couldn't access our check until she came back. She didn't even tell us she was going on break. Once she got back our waitress was so confused and took her so long to get our check and made us miss a movie we wanted to watch. We were very disappointed and for what we paid which was about $85 and the service was mediocre. read more

It was the juiciest most exquisite pulled pork sandwich I've ever had . My daughter got a plain burger, she is a picky eater and actually ate the whole burger and the fries . Very nice. Service started off slow. We almost left. However we waited. We ordered the citrus jalapeño wings and they were over baked. Very tasty but over baked. If you like falling off the bone wings. Then you will like them. Not a good start. Then the grilled salmon with sautéed spinach and roasted roots came plus a purée. Unbelievable. So good. Right in the heart of Studio City, they've got great sandwiches with something for everyone, even that obnoxious vegan with the man bun. There's food for normal people too, including a cheese sandwich thing that is so great it could start its own religion. Nice beverage menu. Only two crits are (1) they need to serve coffee in hot mugs, not cold ones and (2) parking can be tough. In a city that is flush with gastropubs, unfortunately, I have to say that I felt Tuning Fork fell short. We sampled several of the appetizers, and while none were bad, none were nearly as awe inspiring as one can find at other gastropubs around town. Let's start with the truffle fries. I mean, how do you mess this up? But frankly we couldn't taste any truffle oil, and the fries themselves were nothing notable. The smokestack sliders (three average sized slider buns with a pulled pork and slaw) were okay, but nothing special (and nothing compared to what you can get at Boneyard down the street!). The best dish was probably the mac n'cheese sliders, but that alone wouldn't be enough to get me to come back. My other gripe was the overall ambiance and the noise level. I realize it is a gastropub, but somehow they didn't catch the fun, hip vibe of a spot like Black Market Liquor or Firefly. Our waitress was terrific, and was one of the most knowledgable servers I've met in a long time when it came to their beers. I felt like I was talking with a beer sommelier! read more

Friend and I found this place by chance and got their last table. Bartender was our server, he was very personable and attentive. We ordered a bottle of wine (after letting us try a different wine first, thank you) and two different entrees. The place was packed, very very very very very loud and busy. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive but we didn't mind so much because we were enjoying our time and our wine. The bartender apologized several times for the delay and after we finished our food he offered any dessert to us, on the house, to make up for our food taking so long. We happily accepted and ordered the brownie with salted caramel ice cream. Light my fire burger we ordered was cooked to perfection and the mushroom flatbread was also delicious. Between the music and the hard surfaces bouncing conversation, it was definitely not the experience we were looking for. My friend had the salmon tacos, which were delicious. Avocado, slaw, and lemon on the side. I had the ratatouille with fried polenta. Points for making it look like the film version, with paper-thin slices arranged in a circle. My ONLY complaint is when we were there Saturday night it was SO HOT in the restaurant everyone was dripping sweat. Summer in the valley is rough and we would have stayed for so much longer if it were cooler. I've been here twice now... once on a slower weeknight (right after work, so maybe 6:30ish?)... sat at the bar and it was great! The bartender knew her stuff when it came to beer, and my husband always has 100 questions about the IPAs. That night was really calm and enjoyable... however, I had to get a different glass of wine as mine just tasted off. It seemed watered down and not at the right temperature (Pinot Noir)... the bartender was nice about it and I got a new glass of Rose which was delicious. The second time was last night, and it was PACKED! We got a nice table right away so that wasn't a problem, but man was it LOUD! They need to work on the acoustics in there or something... I couldn't hear anything my husband said across the table... he had to come sit next to me. Last night (Wednesdays) are Wine Wednesdays, which was awesome! I got a 4 pour flight for only $15... the Riesling was eh, the Rose was good, good Syrah and eh Cab... you could also get half off on some bottles... great deal. Sadly, I haven't eaten both times I've been there due to my gluten allergy. I wasn't starving either time so I didn't put the poor server through my 5 minute education course... but just from being a seasoned Celiac, the menu was not GF friendly... it's not my first rodeo, I know what things can be easily modified. I don't think one app or small plate would be modifiable (prob just the garlic veggies... no fun). My husband said his pulled pork sandwich was pretty good. This place is walking distance from our house so we'll continue to check it out... the beer game seems on point (I want one!! wahh :*( ), but the wines seem hit or miss. read more

I went here on a weekend at around 11:30 a.m. because I was craving an early morning beer (hey, it's the weekend, AND the USA hockey team beat Russia in a double overtime 8-person shootout, leaving cause for celebration.) FOOD: I had the club sandwich and truffle fries, and my friend had the pulled pork BBQ sandwich. I would highly recommend the truffle fries. The come steak-style reminding me of the delicious Steak N' Shake fries of my youth, but reincarnated as a more sophisticated, adult version. The portions at Tuning Fork are really large. In all seriousness, you don't need to order a side dish with your meal, because the sandwiches are huge on their own. But let's be honest--you'll probably want to, as the sides are damn good. I really enjoyed the coleslaw that came with my friend's BBQ sandwich.--This isn't your mother's close slaw. Think traditional ingredients turned up 10 notches with a spicy kick to them for a delicious end result. SERVICE: The service was great, but then again, there were only two tables since the restaurant had just opened. BEER: The bottled beer selection was awesome! The bartender told us they specialize in carrying California craft beers, which is ok by me. In terms of tap beers, it looked like they had about five different selections to chose from, so if you're looking for variety I would stick to the bottled beer. Overall, the food was amazing! There wasn't a bad, or even mediocre part to the entire meal. The restaurant itself is small, so my suggestion would be to come during non-peak hours or with smaller groups. read more

I love discovering gastropubs in the valley. Tuning Fork has been on my yelp list for awhile, but never had a chance to check it out. I finally made it here on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. We found metered parking right away, which is always a plus. We were able to sit wherever we wanted. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He was helpful with explaining the different beers they had on tap. We opted for a red IPA - never knew they existed, but was definitely happy with this choice. The decor is nice - rustic with wooden chairs & tables. We ordered the Mediterranean flatbread and the truffle fries. The fries were shoestrings - my favorite! The flatbread was on the smaller side - size of a pita bread. We wanted the brussel sprouts, but they were all out. Overall we enjoyed our experience and loved the beer. read more

At a little after 6:00, we placed our order. I ordered soup and a turkey burger. I figured the soup would be treated by the kitchen as an appetizer and come out before the meal. I was wrong. At 6:58 our food arrived at the table... with the soup being the last thing that arrived at the table. Very happy I came across this place! Really good food and drinks, and a great selection of both covering different tastes. We had great steaks and great vegan at the same table! I think the best thing though was the staff - our waiter particularly, but all the staff had the same feel to them - they were some of the warmest, most pleasant people I've ever been served by in LA, or at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, even worldwide. And I've travelled substantially. They all seemed genuinely happy to be at work and to be serving you. And as an unexpected bonus they had a really good quality live duo start playing during our meal. If I lived close I'd probably be here multiple times a week. We went at the recommendation of my mother-in-law who knows we like natural, healthy menu options. Delicious food, positive relaxed ambience with just the right amount of "happening" plus good, friendly, attentive service and a professional well-trained staff. The menu is awesome. The chef has made some very creative dishes and is a artisan of his craft. I ordered the salmon with quinoa salad. For me the proportions were perfect and right-sized. I usually take half of whatever I order home to eat later. Not here. I ate the whole thing and enjoyed every bite. The hubby ordered the mushroom burger protein style with the truffle fries. Those are worth the trip in itself. His burger was grass-fed and you could taste it was a quality cut... the mushrooms with the cheese were to die for. He said my salmon was the best he had ever had. I order salmon out pretty frequently since it is commonly one of the healthier choices, but here I felt I got something special and really enjoyable on its own merit not just the best choice for my dietary restrictions. Usually there are plenty of fries left for me to help my husband eat, but again, not here. They were gone promptly! That's a good thing all around. We were there after 8pm and they had a late happy hour going. I would have ordered something if I was a drinker. In fact the whole "pub" section looked like a great place to hang out and enjoy a nice glass of wine or flight of something to try. Not like a lot of places where it's dark and depressing and you'd feel weird to go by yourself. Here it would totally be cool to do that. In fact, the whole restaurant had a very lively energy with couples, families and friends all having a nice evening out. It could have been a weekend, the place was completely full, but it was a Tuesday. We've gotten into an autumn chill in the season which can be quite brash so when customers would leave and the door would be a jar, the staff was attentive in closing it, which I appreciated. It's always nicer when the staff notices something before you can hail them down and ask them to fix it. Water was always filled and I felt encouraged to drink plenty in the best sense possible. When we had tasted enough food to try our meal our waitress was right back to ask if everything was okay, not ten or fifteen minutes later when it would be too late to really address it because you've already ate half your food. The only minor glitch was at the end when it took awhile for her to circle back to grab and run our credit card. But it was for good reason since she was running food to tables, and this is the kind of place where serving things at the right temperature is part of the excellence. So, although we would have liked to have gotten out a few minutes sooner, I didn't mind because at least it was for a good reason. When she came back for our bill she was cheerful and pleasant and with such a genuinely upbeat and unpretentious attitude, any inconvenience was easily forgiven. We came to celebrate my husband's work success in signing two new contracts. We had gone to another local restaurant the Friday prior and were not completely happy with the experience so tonight was our do-over. (Luckily he signed two contracts so we got two chances to do our night right.) We were so happy we chose to come here and look forward to returning soon. read more

Tuning Fork is the BEST restaurant in the Valley. It kills me that this place isn't more popular, although I guess that's just less competition for me to get a table. Their food is amazing. For example, truffle can be hit or miss for me, but their truffle burger and their truffle fries are amazing. I didn't leave anything at all the first time I got them. The quality of the meat itself is obscene. And their pulled pork? Oh. My. God. It's the best pulled pork I've ever had. As much as I love the burgers, I don't know if I can ever go back from the pulled pork. The slaw they top it off with is just, I don't know. I normally hate slaw, but I would survive on theirs. Food's all fine and dandy, but it's a gastropub, so drinks are just as important. Trust me, you won't be disappointed by drinks here. Their beer selection is wonderful and eclectic with some really great breweries. If that's overwhelming or confuses you, just ask your server for some guidance. My first trip to Tuning Fork, our server gave us drink suggestions all night long. She never gave us a bad recommendation. She was so good I hugged her at the end of the night, although it could have been the drinks themselves and not her drink suggestions that brought that on. Honestly, the only downside I can think of is parking. Street parking in the area is, quite frankly, crap. It's hard to find meters, and the nearby lots fill up quickly. Suck it up, and walk a little bit if you have to. I recently went with some coworkers to Tuning Fork, and one of them pretty much summed up the place as we left: "I could spend all day at this place, and I'd be okay." Stopped in here for lunch after being an audience member at the nearby CBS studios, when my gf had a craving for mac n cheese. I went on Yelp and searched for best mac n cheese in the area and this place popped up. She had the mac n cheese (it was really more like fried mac n cheese balls) and I ordered the tomato soup w/half a cheese sandwich, and it came with a small side salad. It was delicious. We were on limited time since we had to drive back home 350 miles, so we pretty much just ate our food and left as soon we could. I would love to come back and enjoy spending more time here. I went here because I was in the area and felt like having a "good" beer with dinner. Their beer bottle selection is pretty vast, but when I go to a bar I'm going for draft beer. They had around 6 beers on tap that were good not great. The food was a bit on the pricey side, especially considering the quality/price of a Father's Office burger. I ordered the truffled mushroom burger. A lot of restaurants kind of go crazy with the truffle oil at times, but this burger had an enjoyably conservative amount. The goat cheese and pickles were a nice touch, and the bread was a pleasant, soft brioche. I also had a taste of the turkey burger which had a notably tasty mustard in it. The chips that come with the burgers were well seasoned and not super crunchy which I liked. The service was fair - not incredible / not offensive. Overall, if you're in the area, down to spend a few bucks more than you maybe should be on a burger, and are wanting something more than an adjunct lager, then check this place out. 6.8/10 read more

The restaurant was full at dinner time and it wasn't a huge place but the wait was arduous and the noisy chatter all around was almost deafening. The waitress came around at least twice to say the food was coming and thanked us for being patient. The saving grace were the delectable burgers we ordered that were juicy, spicy & full of flavor.
