Found this place on Yelp and decided to give this place a try for our date night! Small restaurant but cute! The service was amazing! Food was excellent!! Such a nice dining experience. I think you do need reservations though. Although we went early so we walked in and it was still empty. It's on Ventura so parking is somewhat a hassle but if you can find something in the back streets and wall, which is what we did, it's perfect. Price point a bit on the higher end, but again, it's ok Ventura Blvd so it's about average for the area. Quality of food though was worth the price! read more

I've been walking past this new eatery/ drinkery in Studio City for days now, and just stopped in to have lunch today. I can only review from the vegan perspective. They have some great salad options, but I went for the Eyes of the World burger. It is a lentil and eggplant based patty with pickles, tomato, red onion, and unfortunately I failed to realize that it comes by default on a brioche bun... check about alternative bun options before ordering this if you are vegan! but the rest of the burger was delicious, and a nice break from the throw-away veggie burgers many restaurants try to serve. Very well seasoned. The chips that come with were tasty as well. It wasn't a healthy meal, but if you are looking for good taste, a wonderful selection of wines, and a menu that can accommodate all kinds, The Tuning Fork is a great mix. This a story called "Tuned Out: A Yelp Review About a Trendy/Crappy New Hip/Shit Place to Eat." The Tuning Fork reeks of a wanna-be restaurant pioneer who thought "Oh, gastropubs-- those are hot right now. Let's do that." Even the decor looks like they picked up a paint called "Hipster Chic" and spray painted it over an old Mail Boxes Etc, trading out the old copy machines for wooden tables. The sad thing is I was excited to try this place as A) I love craft beer, B) I love burgers, C) I love trying new places and D) It's not far from my home. The night my lovely girlfriend and I ventured to Studio City to find the Tuning Fork, we walked in to find it fairly busy, but then again it's a rather small place so it doesn't take much for it to get busy. However there were at least three open tables. After several young ladies (Hostess and waitresses alike) walked right past us standing there in the middle of the restaurant unsure what to do for a good five or six minutes, I finally tapped one on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me?" She spun around quickly and it was very apparent from both the way she looked at me and how she responded that A) She knew exactly what I was going to ask because she SAW me standing there already and B) She was hoping someone else would've tackled this chore of actually talking to the customers. The first words out of her mouth were not, "How can I help you?" or even "Hello," but "Do you have a reservation?" We did not, so she groaned and looked around for a minute before saying, "Well, I guess you could sit there." Then she walked off without actually having indicated where "there" actually was. Luckily another young lady came out directly after the hostess with the mostest and directed us to our table. Then she disappeared without even asking if we wanted some waters or dare I say BEERS? Oh, and then this is when the original hostess came up to us and decided to tease me about not being able to find a table. Because that was MY fault obviously. She came over and laughed, then said something along the lines of, "You were all like whaaa? Where do I sit?" She's a doll, really. Our waitress was next and she was a nice young gal with spunk. She actually brought us menus. She asked us, "Have you guys been here before?" Not knowing, of course, if we had, we wouldn't have been here now. She then gave me the draught list that consisted of about five, maybe six beers on tap, all of which were your run-of-the-mill beers on tap. Nothing bad, mind you, just nothing you couldn't find at pretty much most bars these days, like Lagunitas IPA, Fat Tire, Alaskan Amber, etc. In other words, mediocre beer selection on less taps than an Applebees. Now, the burger I got-- I believe it was called Light My Fire-- was actually really good. Great blend of spicy, salty and sweet all atop top-grade beef. But it was also $15, which is a little steep. I mean, it's not like it had sushi on top of it or anything. On the other hand, my girlfriend got the vegan mac and she despised it. It was bland cardboard in cheese-colored water sauce. I tasted some to confirm and YUP. That's exactly what it was. So that's how the story ends. I will not be going back here and I cannot recommend you go here at all. There are much better choices of places with better beer selection, service and food all over LA. read more

So here's the deal. The good news: I'd been here twice for lunch and loved it. Very inviting, super friendly staff and not a bad bite on the menu. The bad news: Made reservations for dinner for 4, we arrive on time but no table for us for 1/2 hour. Now it was nice of them to wait for some other patrons to vacate a table in the window but there were several EMPTY TABLES! Finally we are seated. Really slow out of the kitchen. Really really slow. But yummy. Then, we order dessert. Did I mention slow? Like at least 30 minutes. We got there at 7 and left at 10. Way too long for a casual dinner. And it is deafening. When we tried Tuning Fork, it was not very busy. Most people were at the bar and when we arrived, there was only one table occupied. It was pricier than we expected or would have liked. We liked the food but we didn't have anything that made us feel like we just had to come back or that this place would be one of our go-to places. We shared a beet salad, and for entrees we ordered a Smokestack Lightning (pulled pork sandwich) and a Light My Fire Burger. Loved this place, the food was perfectly proportioned and the beer was great, they give you a sample taste if you ask, so you can try a few different new beers. the table facing the exterior has a lovely view of a Bougainvillea that has the feel of sitting outside. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is due to the loudness, it was so loud that I had to shout to the person sitting across me.. otherwise it's 5 star pub experience. The staff here is incredibly nice. My first time here (October 2013, so this review is long overdue), all the tables were full. It's a small space, so if people decide to hang out after their meal, turnover isn't the quickest. My party was encouraged to wait at the bar, and here the manager on duty went from joking around with us to describing whatever craft beers we were considering to lending us Tuning Fork's copy of Cards Against Humanity to pass the time. I've never experienced a more pleasant wait for a table. The food is great. Delicious wings (go for the citrus-jalapeno-maple sauce) and hummus and burgers. Unfortunately this rating of being number one in the area does not match what you actually get. Firstly the restaurant was mainly empty when I went in at 6:30 on a Friday night. I ordered the salmon and it was literally a very small strip laid upon something I can't even tell you what some sort of hummus and sliced carrots that won't even cooked properly and some kind of kale or lettuce or something it was by far the worst salmon dish open ever in counted in my life. Had a great lunch the other day at Tuning Fork! Ordered the club sandwich, which was amazing! The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday which was nice and the service was quick. My only complaint is that the prices are somewhat high. $16 for a club sandwich and an extra $3 for a little side salad that normally would come with the meal at any other place seems a little high. I know it's a trendy place in studio city but it shouldn't cost $20+ for a sandwich (and a water) at lunch after you tip your waiter. read more

My husband and I had dinner here last week and the food was really just OK. We started with the cheese platter which was the best thing we had. Cheese was tasty, portion was decent and the bread was just right. Next, we tried the brussell sprouts which came with bacon and cheese. This may be the first dish I have ever eaten with bacon that I didn't like. The flavor was bland even with all the stuff on top. We also had the short rib which was also just OK. There wasn't enough flavor even though the meat was cooked perfectly. I don't think I would come back here for the food. A wonderful neighborhood bar! Cozy atmosphere and a great selection of local beers. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks they're serving. Tuning Fork also has live music several times a week, featuring awesome musicians and only adding to the ambiance. AMAZING! What a find! We were just browsing the Farmers Market around lunchtime when we noticed The Tuning Fork and discovered it was only the third day open. The food, vibe, music, service and atmosphere were all top marks. We had the fish sandwich and the eggplant lentil burger with tots and homemade crisps. The owners introduced themselves and the chef personally approached us to find out our thoughts and then we were asking about a certain item on the menu when he told us to hold on and a few minutes later emerged from the kitchen with mini samples for us to taste of the dish. Mediocre food with way too much horse radish. The steak tartare which our waitress recommended was a heaping pile of mess slathered with way too much horseradish. yuck. The flatbread my friends got also had too much horseradish. The burger, had the same problem. I had the duck pate which was listed as an entree but seemed more like an appetizer. The bread it came with was tasteless and looked like they had bought it from the grocery store. They served it with these candied almonds which were way too sweet like something you would eat for dessert. The pate which was okay, was served in a miniature jug which made it hard to get at. My friends ordered the chicken house specialty which was a tiny chicken leg with some sauce on the side. Unimpressive. The three desserts had no description so we ordered the one called murder by chocolate. It was two pieces of fudge (way too sweet) with some cherry sauce drizzled over it. As for service, they were attentitive but waitress seemed pretty green and talked too much. Also screwed up our bill and had to run it a second time. Disappointing overall. Review based on one visit a couple of months ago. I work nearby and was excited to have a new place with (hopefully) good food and beer to stop by after work. Turns out... not so much. The vibe of the place is nice enough. Cool decor. But from the moment we walked in I knew we were in trouble. The music was SO loud, even though the restaurant was only half full, we were overwhelmed by the volume in there. My friend and I got a table toward the front of the restaurant, as far from the speakers as possible. Even still, our server had to ask us to repeat ourselves as we ordered, because she couldn't hear us over the music. The people a couple of tables over moved to what they thought might be a more quiet table next to us, but they weren't any more happy or comfortable there. I understand the chef may have changed since our visit. I hope so. The menu was pretty uninspired bar/pub food--mac & cheese, a few burgers, etc. I love a good burger, so I wanted to try one of theirs. I ordered mine medium rare, no cheese (I'm lactose intolerant). My friend ordered his with a couple of things left off, as it sounded like way too many strong flavors would be fighting. Our burgers arrived well-done, and the onions he had asked to be left off his burger were left off mine as well. My burger was so plain that I asked for a couple of lettuce leaves to give it a little something extra; 10 minutes later and half-way through my burger a side-salad arrived at our table. So, the service was slow, the food was bland, overpriced, and badly prepared, there were numerous problems with our orders, and we couldn't have a conversation because it was so loud. And the group of people who moved to the table next to us? So unhappy that they took their credit card to the server at the kitchen, their meals half eaten, because they could not wait to get out of the place. My girlfriend and I used to go here. Forgot the managers name, he was nice and very accommodating...always took care of us. But one day we were walking in the neighborhood and decided to swing by and see if they do brunch...haven't gone back since then. It's been about 1yr. We were walking around, stepped into a few spots and they were all busy. And then we both thought..."let's check out Tuning Fork." We've never been here in the daytime so we thought it's the perfect opportunity. They were open and lots of open tables...yay. In fact only 1 table was occupied. We walked in and stood there. Two female employees were at the counter talking with each other. They both looked at us and just continued with their conversation. No hello, hi, welcome to Tuning Fork...nothing! We stood there about 2-3 minutes, which felt like forever. I then approached them and asked if they're open. I barely got a response. We couldn't believe it. And we really like Tuning Fork, we've been here many times for dinner. So we decided to leave and haven't been back since then. Rome has fallen!! I'm very sad to write an updated review on Tuning Fork! My boyfriend and I just came back from another evening there and for the first time, were extremely disappointed and saddened by the experience. The staff are beyond amazing. They are always kind and very accomodating. This updated review is more about the main attraction: the burgers. The Plain Jane was indeed a "plain" burger, but it revealed how genuine and fresh the ingredients were. The meat was always juicy, fresh, and cooked exactly how you wanted it (we ordered medium). That's why we ordered it all of the time because every ingredient was perfect! So tonight we were starving and all we could think about was The Plain Jane. Got to Tuning Fork and quickly discovered that it wasn't on their menu anymore! Well we didn't give up and instead ordered the "TF Burger", medium with cheddar and bacon. After a few mins (didn't mind because we were drinking some nice wine), we received our burgers. No cheddar or bacon, but avocado instead. Nooooooo! But what saddened us the most was that it was on a French roll. ??? The meat didn't even extend to the edges so there was about two inches on each side that had nothing on it. That bread shouldn't exist for burgers so it was strange so see it! We took a bite, and alas, it was well done. So very over cooked. What is happening right now?! We sadly lost our appetite halfway, paid our dinner, and left for Ralph's, where we decided we would rather cook our own food tonight than continue eating that burger. First time in LA area in awhile and found Tuning Fork. Nice atmosphere in a smaller restaurant. A little noisy at times especially with on 12 tables but definitely manageable. They have a fairly varied upscale pub food menu with a little something for almost everyone. Service was good even though you may have to remind the staff about your drink, but all in all everything came out quickly. I enjoyed the Mushroom Truffle Burger that was actually cooked rare just like I ordered. Burgers come with house made chips which others at the table enjoyed but I opted for the Truffle Fries for a few dollars extra. The fries were cooked well with good flavor but I don't know how "truffly" they were. Prices are mid to higher range for their food, burgers anywhere from $14 to $20 but all in all worth it. You might even see a celebrity there at times. William Shatner happened to be there on this occasion. Tuning Fork would be worth another visit. read more
