Came here the other day for the first time with my grandma. It's one of her favorite places, but when we attempted a few weeks ago, the wait was 45 mins. No thanks. Got lucky today and must have hit it between the breakfast and lunch rushes, as when we arrived around noon we were quoted 15 mins though it actually was closer to 10. By the time we left, the wait was out the door. So be prepared. We were seated in the small nook at the front of the restaurant. The space is sizable, with a bar area, a main dining area, as well as outdoor space when it's not below freezing out. Our server Brittany approached right after we sat down and brought a pitcher of water to leave at the table. I appreciated that as I hate having to ask for refills. Lots of beverage choices, including plenty of loose leaf tea options. I decided against the chai tea latte as was told it was on the sweeter side. Honest advice is also always appreciated. We had plenty of time to scan the ample menu which included both AM and PM crowd pleasers and ended up going for savory over sweet. I decided upon a combo, the 1/2 turkey reuben melt sandwich and a cup of the butternut squash apple soup, and my grandma got the Atlantic tuna melt. Both were served with a side of tortilla ships and salsa. Sandwiches were open faced, and the melted Swiss cheese was still hot upon arrival. They were delicious, but the soup was excellent. Highly recommended. Our server was attentive and appeared at appropriate intervals, and we never felt rushed even as the wait grew. I did not know this was a chain prior to dining here, but noticed a piece of art over the bar that playfully showed some of the other locations. They also do catering, something worth noting. Prices are reasonable if somewhat skewed high, but the quality of food made up for it. They do have menus for gluten sensitive folks, kids and seasonal specials, so be sure to ask. As a vegetarian I appreciate that they have vegetarian/vegan options that are delicious and not just side salad. Their homemade lemonade is delicious as well as their plethora of coffee and tea options. However, service is so hit or miss. Sometimes we go and it's great and on point but other times we have to flag down our server to get forks. Speaking of forks, I don't know why I get dirty dishes and utensils EVERY TIME I GO. I'm not talking about a water stain here and a rice grain in the fork there. I will literally get cups with red lipstick on the rim. How did you not see that ? We have been eating at Turning Point in Brick since it opened and have always been very satisfied. Yesterday, 8/24 we went there for breakfast and it was a disaster. The potatoes were gross....had been sitting in kitchen forever, the toast was burnt as was the Taylor Ham. Ate at turning point today in Brick and I will never be back. Everything was cold and the potato's tasted like they have been made early in the morning and had been sitting out. They were so bland and dried out. I would compare it to the free breakfast potatoes you would get at a hotel but even those potatoes were better. I ordered an omelette and all of the veggies were not mixed in and instead were placed out of it. The bacon was also terrible which seems kind of hard to mess up. The bacon was rubbery. I've eaten here before and it wasn't good the last time either I'm not sure why I came back for another try but this was the last time I will ever eat at turning point. read more

Great breakfast place in Brick. Located in the Costco shopping center next to Staples. Fresh is what best describes the breakfast we had. Loved the selection of teas on the menu. I had the green it was very good. They do offer fresh squeezed on, and have several smoothies flavors. I liked that they served a small cup of fresh fruit with the breakfast platters. I ate here today and wanted to share my thoughts. The service was fine but I am more interested in the food. The coffee was really good- you could easily share a French press between two people. If you like coffee, you will be pleased with the quality. Be warned if you have a NJ mom- mine was not impressed because it "didn't taste like Wawa." The entrees were pretty- next time I would share with someone. I ordered the blueberry lemon pancakes and was honestly left wanting more. They were a little boring for me- not enough blueberries nor lemon zest. So my critique is more fruit. I also feel that they need to be served with something like mascarpone on the side. I appreciate the offering of real maple syrup since that is not something you find in local diners around here. My dining companions both got egg dishes- they seemed more flavorful than mine. My boyfriend seemed slightly disturbed about his huevos rancheros being served as one giant dish rather than on small tortillas but conceded that it tasted good. I don't think this point should be held against them. One last thought regarding all of the comments on "ambiance." I'm sorry but it just looks like someone went to TJ Maxx with $50 and purchased generic beach decorations. A plus, they have an outdoor seating area. Overall, I would return again. This seems like the type of place where most dishes would be good and is a nice change from the super unhealthy diner offerings in the area. read more

I came here because I was in the area. I sat at the bar area and my server was Joe. He was very pleasant and friendly, and I enjoyed having him take care of me on my visit. I ordered the Summer Raspberry Spritzer to drink and it was quite tasty and refreshing. For food, I ordered the Berry Chocolaty pancakes. They were tasty as well, especially when coated with the strawberry puree they put on the side. My only one comment (which is why I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars) is that I wish that the actual pancakes were less on the burnt side and had more chocolate chips in them. That would have made them much more tastier. Other than that, they were good. I would definitely eat here again. read more

BAD SERVICE - HOW ABOUT NO SERVICE Visited the Brick location for a birthday breakfast. We were seated in a section of 4 tables, which were unoccupied. As we waited, customers were seated at the remaining 3 tables. Waitstaff visited the other three tables delivering water, coffee, taking orders and delivered food - all while we sat without any acknowledgement of our presence, no coffee, no water, no orders taken. After 20 minutes we walked out. I did report this to the manager who offered a half-hearted (at best) apology, however, she did not ask us to be seated and that she would make sure we were well taken care of. Will not be returning - and reported this to the corporate office as it was apparent the manager did not care. Not sure why this says I am in SanFrancisco - I live in Lakewood, NJ read more

We went to the Brick Turning Point over Thanksgiving weekend. We were greatly disappointed. Food was cold, soggy and yes it was super crowded. )usually are crowded) Since we have a gift card we will be looking forward to a much better experience. Great place for brunch! Typically a short wait for a table on weekends but never too bad. Service can be a little hit or miss but the food is always good. Wish they had some non dairy options though! Just found out they are BYO-champagne which is a nice option. read more

I was so excited to try this place. It is ALWAYS packed. It is absolutely GORGEOUS inside! Clean, homey, spacious. The coffee tasted like diluted tea...so weak. No flavor at all. Waitress said that is the 'blend' the restaurant uses. So right there, as a coffee drinker this place lost my business. Yes I can get a cappuccino, but I like a good coffee. Everything else was just OK. I ordered basic 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Rye toast was maybe 1/3 covered with butter so basically dry. Bacon was eh, eggs were cooked properly. Potatoes were just deep fried cubes so nothing special. Service was good. Overall, for a breakfast/brunch/lunch place, I think they could do better. I thoroughly enjoyed The Turning Point. This was my first time here, and my high expectations were met. Since we checked in, we only had to wait around 5 minutes for our table. When we were first seated, I realized that my cup was dirty. However, my waitress was very nice and prompt about getting me a clean cup. We then ordered the S'mores Hot Chocolate as a drink. Although it was $3.49, it was definitely worth the money. For my meal, I ordered the Avocado Smash Benny. This was amazing. It was the perfect amount of food, and very delicious. The other person in my party ordered the Grande Breakfast Burrito, which is featured on the Summer menu. This was also very good, but after trying both, I preferred the Avocado Smash. This was a second chance, as everyone deserves one and it resulted in a one star improvement. If you love art deco food with a uniqueness of flavors and accept the up charge, this is your place. If you are interested in comfort, breakfast classics, there are better tasting and more affordable choices. I ordered a classic milk shake and it was good, my wife loves the ice vanilla chai and it was a winner. The smashed avocado Benedict was also a good selection, while I stayed with the Grand French, which was "nothing grand" and rather bland. I learned that the syrup is a brand name lite and had absolutely no sweetness with a similar taste and consistancy of brown water. If you would like the real syrup, it was an up charge, not a choice I would make as a business owner. The water glasses were still dirty as was the floor and I was surprised that the manager never checked in with us during the meal. The children's meals are only a dollar or two short of the adult prices, so I would leave the kids at home. I went here for a late breakfast with my girlfriend and was very impressed. I had the Grande Huevos Rancheros and the portion was HUGE. If I had gone any earlier, I probably would not have been able to finish it, but I definitely would have tried because it was delicious. She had the bruschetta omelette (a summer '14 special menu item) and this portion was also very big. The price was a bit high. For two people to have breakfast and coffee it cost about $30 including tip. The service was excellent. Our waitress stopped to check if we needed anything at least 3 times over the course of the meal. The other high note of the meal was the french press coffee, which was brought out to the table. So...after leaving San Diego yesterday afternoon, we finally arrived at Newark International Airport around 2:30am. With the airlines wanting to charge you more and more for less, we were starved to say the least. After taking care of a few errands, we stopped in at "The Turning Point" to grab something to eat. The Turning Point is a Breakfast/Lunch/Brunch type of joint. It sits off of Route 70 eastbound in Brick (just down the street from the Motel we're staying at). There weren't a lot of folks there. In fact we were the only ones there at first, then a couple other parties came in. The establishment itself is brightly lit by natural sunlight (windows all over the place). There is a small counter for a couple customers, there are a couple patio rooms with about four or more tables each, and then the main dining area has about 5 or 6 good sized tables. Natural plants all over the place. And hard wood floors (which I love). Service was quick and friendly. June had the "Stuffed French Toast" which looked awesome. There were a couple slices of french toast with mango, strawberry and blueberry in the middle. It was topped with what looked like freshly made whipped cream and there was a side of strawberry sauce reduction. It just looked great, and June concurred. I had their "Basic Skillet" which was country style potatoes with Monterey Jack Cheese melted all over it and then eggs cooked to order on top. A side of sausage finished my order. My meal also was very good. The food was good, I'm giving them the fifth star for their cleanliness, atmosphere, and their customer service. I think that this chain has over-extended itself, or the management at the Brick location is seriously in need of some additional training...or maybe just has to be reminded to give a damn about quality, value...you know, the basics. Years ago I remember going to the Holmdel location, and being assured that I would be getting a decent meal on a consistent basis. I went to the Brick location and ordered a Turkey Club and "homemade" lemonade. The Club Sandwich tasted "old". You know, deli meat that, while technically still servable, has been sitting around past its prime. The lettuce and other"garnish" were limp and wilted. The lemonade, or, I should say a glass of ice with a few drops of lemonade for color was mediocre, at best and greatly over-priced at over $3 for a small. This place has become complacent and arrogant. Save paying these outrageous prices for less than mediocre food, and go somewhere else. read more

This is one of the best diners in NJ, a state known for its diners. Despite the shorter hours for this diner, everything is good. They claim to make every recipe from scratch and I think that claim is true. Everything tastes fresh, and good, even the coffee which is their own house blend roasted for here, and it's quite good. FOOD: I've gotten the OMG FRENCH TOAST, and it was decadent fattening goodness. The wheat bread used made me feel a little better about eating French toast that is covered in syrup and bacon and pecans. But this dish is delightful. I enjoyed it and have ordered it three more times since. Each time it was just as good. I have gone with no less than 8 different people to eat over a months time, and everybody has loved their food. The food is well above average, and very good for a diner. With portions, that are large enough to be satisfying for not so large to me to be intimidating. The portion sizes are within that gray range of 'just right' to me. SERVICE: The servers are American and very friendly and are glad to talk to you about the any of the menu items. They are communicative and friendly and eager to help. My one critique of the otherwise excellent service, is that it takes a little while to get your check when done. But this is a very minor gripe and I actually prefer that they don't rush you out. PRICE: Prices for beverages and food are the same of what you'd expect to pay at any diner or IHOP. So no surprises here. $10 is the average price for a plate. And unlimited coffee or tea is about $2.5. They also have single origin French press pots available, which is uncommon for a NJ diner and look quite good. But are prices you'd expect, $6 for a carafe. And that's a little out of my budget recently, but I've heard from friends that it's well worth it. :) OVERALL: I have no complaints. The place is clean, with great fresh food, excellent service, and good coffee. Which puts it leagues ahead of other diners in the area. I would go here over IHOP and I enjoy IHOP breakfast. Now understand, I only come to these type of places for breakfast foods. My friends too. So I can't vouch for their lunch or dinner options. But breakfast is definitely one of the best in the area. Also try Mariner's Cove in Brielle for an excellent diner. RATING: Five stars. If you're looking for a great breakfast, you can get it here.
