After the gobsmackingly rude treatment I received today from Tweets' bearded chef (David), I was going to rate the place zero stars, however, as I left, I ran into Charles (apparently, the owner) and explained what happened. He genuinely apologized, so I'm going with 2 stars for now. WITH David...zero stars. WITHOUT David...five stars. I read about Tweets yesterday on Yelp and it sounded so great that I drove 28 miles (one-way) this afternoon to give it a try. Walking in, it looked just like my kind of place. It was 1:30 p.m., the place was about 1/3 full, and there was no line. I was by myself so I ordered a sampling of $50 worth of food (lunch, plus some to-go). As many have said, the espresso was tasty and the place is nicely funky. The staff wasn't especially effusive, so I just pretended that I was in NYC, and adjusted to the brusqueness. You order at the counter, then find an open table to wait at until they yell out your name, at which point, you're supposed to yell back to let them know where you are so they can bring over your food. So, for about 20 minutes, I'm basking out on their fabulous porch, sipping their fabulous coffee, soaking up the fabulous sunshine, and thinking, "What a perfect place...I'm gonna bring all my friends and rave about this place on Yelp!" Then, thinking I heard my name, I got up to see if my Torta Rustica was ready. As I walked in, the female cook looked up and said, "Your order isn't quite together yet," so I said, "No problem." Seeing it was only seconds away from being ready, I decided to hang around so I wouldn't have to come back from my outside table. While standing there, I asked, "So, is your lamb locally raised?" She said yes, and then David, who was cooking nearby, loudly said, "PLEASE DON'T ASK QUESTIONS! ! WE'RE REALLY BUSY TRYING TO PUT THESE ORDERS TOGETHER AND DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ALL YOUR QUESTIONS!" I mean, fricking "Hello?!" As soon as I regained my composure, I said, "So, I guess I should just SHUT UP?!" He nodded. Patrons at nearby tables looked up and rolled their eyes as if they'd seen this before. If I hadn't already paid in advance, I would've walked out. Unfortunately, I HAD paid, so I just sucked it up. I wasn't inclined to put a tip in the tip jar, however, so apologies to the rest of the staff for that. The fun thing is the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. The not fun thing is when there's a jerk in the kitchen, it spoils the experience. David should be a short order cook at a seedy longshoremen's dive. And that's probably an insult to longshoremen. I'll go back when I hear that David is gone or is relocated to a back room where he isn't inflicted on customers. read more

On my last visit to Washington we were urged to try this spot by family. I called at 11am on Saturday to confirm their hours, stated they were open until 6pm. We arrived at 2pm and stood at the front counter for about 10 minutes ogling the beautiful food in their display case. We even conversed with the manager about his favorites on the menu. Just as we stepped up to place the our order for a group of 4, the SAME manager declares that their won't be any more food cooked today because they were busier than usual and the chef was tired. I respect a small place's prerogative to shut early. But after you let customers into your establishment and then discuss the menu, the gracious thing might be to then SERVE them. One of the poorest showing of manners and hospitality I've ever encountered. read more

This is a small, rustic, bohemian cafe with both a patio and indoor seating where you can enjoy a coffee and pastry or sit down for an entree. The food here is absolutely delicious - and the portions are anything but scant! I appreciated the creative twists on classic dishes. The menu I found online is what drew me there. I had a curried sausage and grits entree that was so beautifully plated and colored with roasted local veggies. BUT, it did take a whole hour to get to me after ordering, with no apologies - a frustration for my party of 4 (plus my toddler). Lots of Gluten Free options available! Nothing like this around. I drive 45 minutes up here just for the food and coffee. One of the best lattes I have had, and I have lived in Seattle most my life. The know how to make it! The food is rustic, real, and damn good. As far as the negative reviews go, I have been to tweets 20 or so times. I have NEVER seen David be rude to ANYONE. Sometimes customers can be snotty, and some of these reviews sound really arrogant, in my opinion. If I had a cafe and the customers were narcissistic and rude, I might also tell them they were unwanted. Personally, I like a place where I DON'T expect to get my ass kissed. These people are real, and always fun to talk to, and they have the best food around. Therefore, you negative-review-people may just happen to really be icky customers. I don't live up there or otherwise have any attachments to this spot, and this is a real honest review. I love this place, and this place is loved by many - why it is hard to get a seat most of the time! Good food. Lovely warm atmosphere. Nice location. Great customer service. Good humor. Have you ever been emotionally satisfied by a meal? That's what it's like to go here. Tweets has local ingredients and an authentic atmosphere. The owner is confident and knows how to address your taste buds. He was once a vegan for ethical reasons -- as I am now -- but even convinced me to try the lamb from a local farm. The wait time and prices are high, but I couldn't give a lick because of how satisfying the food is (there's even a nice view of an orchard and occasionally live music). I make special trips down from Bellingham just for the baked good, which are hard to choose from because they're all so darn good!! My favorites are the Danishes, rice crispies, and the biggest oatmeal raisin cookie you might ever lay your eyes on. read more

I love Tweets. My favorite coffeehouse (and eatery) in the Bow-Edison area. The owners David and Charles are a hoot. It's a fun place to sit (inside or out) and hang out with your friends for awhile or rest from the road for a bit. Their FRESH FRESH FRESH edible offerings (baked goods and more main courses) are really something special and way more creative and delightful than normally served at coffeehouses or even delis. Basically, I'd say some gourmet cuisine in an interesting coffeehouse environment. Vegetarian and Vegan offerings, too (and they're good). They're only open Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. 100% worth going out of your way for. Tweets is really my favorite business in all of Bow-Edison. My husband and I have eaten brunch here on three different occasions. I'm not quite sure why there have been a few comments about the staff being rude, that is something we have NEVER experienced. There are always two sides to every story and we have always been treated well and the staff seem to be laid back and friendly. The food is amazing and we love the quaint decor and rustic feel to the place. The espresso drinks are always spot on and delightful. Yes the place is small but that adds to the character and homey feel of the restaurant. I mean you're in Bow-Edison, what are you expecting? The quality of the food is very high and you get what you pay for, we have no problem spending extra on a meal out knowing the ingredients are going to be great quality. I always go for the torta rustica but my husband has tried other items and raved about it each time. Today he had the chorizo and egg tacos and they were amazing. The Torta Rustica is the bomb! But then again so is everything else. These guys are full of wonderful surprises. So glad to be close enough for my fix of the freshest home made food available and good humor in the coziest spot around. I have stopped in on a Saturday morning to find Daddy Tree Tops playing some live music! Most seriously, I have never had a bite that I didn't fall in love with at Tweets. This place may have amazing food but the service is needlessly slow and also unfriendly. There is a pervasive attitude that you should be thankful to eat there and any question about the seriously lacking service is an insult. It's like the Soup Natzi but it's not funny. We stood in line for 10 minutes without moving. No one had food on the tables yet but they were all taken. Most of the food is premade and warmed. They are mostly making salads on the side to finish off the plating. There were 5 people working behind the counter and 1 more roaming around. There is absolutely no excuse for a restaurant with a walk up ordering system, 5 people behind the counter and a lot of premade food to have a 30 minute wait to order and another 20 to 30 minutes to get the food. Then watch a group of unpleasant employees bark at customers. This time we left. No matter how good the food is I can't recommend it unless you can come at a very off time. read more

We stopped here for brunch after a hike from Samish Overlook and had a wonderful time. The sun was shining and we got a seat at one of the picnic tables in the garden - the atmosphere was happy and relaxed. It felt great to "dine out" after all the time spent at home during the pandemic. We got the Porchetta sandwich with new potato salad and our friend got a Collard Greens and Polenta breakfast plate with eggs, avocado, and other fixings. The food was delicious. The Porchetta was meatier than I've had before, but very juicy with crispy edges. It came on a delicious bun with tons of aioli. The salad was a nice touch, with greens, cheese, and perfectly soft potatoes. The breakfast plate was very unique with so many flavors working in harmony. The portions are huge - big enough to share between two or maybe order three to share between four people. I now understand all the rave reviews I've heard of this place over the years! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a very low key place and there are no bells or whistles, but the food is fantastic, their iced tea is wonderful and the service is good too. From the looks of it, it's a converted garage. They function off of a 2 burner stove and a pizza oven. There is outdoor seating, a few rustic tables which appear to be homemade (quality). This place is just oozing with coolness. We read about this place from a Seattle Magazine and we just had to check it out since it's very close to home. My friend and I happened up on this charming restaurant while driving south from Bellingham and looking for coffee. The restaurant service was getting ready to close but we were graciously offered coffee or bakery items. We watched the chef prepare the last meals of the day while the latte was being prepared. Yummy! Even my vegan friend commented on how great they looked. The pastries lookes awesome (but I resisted) since I'd recently eaten. Share it. If it is at all available, go for the 1/2 roasted chicken. And wait. And wait. But it is totally worth it once you get a flavorful, moist bird with crispy skin. Heaven. Someone came up to ask what we got because they thought that it looked amazing! Sadly, we took the last bird so they couldn't experience it. The lamb sliders were ok- one large ball of ground lamb not multiple burgers. I was a little worried because the lamb didn't look cooked through due to the size of the slider. Be prepared for dishes to be $15-$20. Once you order, find your seat & wait. We waited over an hour for food. When it came, it came about 15 minutes apart (his first, mine second). The flavors were delicious but it was hard to eat. Boyfriends pork had some fat or something in it. My eggs benedict was on a super-crusty piece of bread (not well thought out) and while delicious, was SO VERY MESSY. I've never had anything quite so messy but, delicious. They use béchamel instead of hollandaise. Eggs were fried, not poached but perfect. Boyfriend got the pork + scallops which were on a delicious grain with some kind of garlicky-peanut sauce. Servings were HUGE - one meal could feed two people. The flavors were worth the wait. The decor was warm & inviting. Staff was a little brusque but pleasant saying good bye. Can you say heaven in your mouth? After much anticipation, we finally made it here on one cold and rainy morning. Walking in we were welcomed by the sounds of a solo guitarist with spirit and a dessert/pastry counter to-die-for. The rustic atmosphere combined with the smiling cooks behind the counter where also a great welcome from the rain. I ordered the grilled polenta which was topped with sautéed peppers and onions, a delicious marinara and warm goat's cheese. This is not something I would normally eat for breakfast--but for some reason it caught my eye this morning, and I am glad it did because it was mouth-gasmic. The fork, my hand, and my mouth became one--until I could not possible ingest anymore. The combination of the warm goat cheese, marinara, peppers, and grilled polenta was amazing and something I would never have thought to pair for breakfast. I want it now! These guys cook up an amazing meal, on a two burner camp stove may I add, that is worth the trip. This is a great place to go if you are looking for a super relaxing, yet fun and darn-right delicious breakfast. The menu is small (very small) and I hear changes often--but what they do have on the menu is good ole' fashion yummy. Good food. Cool people. Great atmosphere. Just checked this place out which is 5 minutes from my house. I had the lamb burger and it was outstanding!! The restaurant has out door seating and is in a very cozy old rustic building. The food tasted so fresh and the kitchen is open so you can watch them cook. I will be coming back for sure. read more

Who knew that one of the best breakfast experiences I have had would be in Edison, WA? We went to Tweets on recommendation from a local business and it was worth the trip from Vancouver. The service was amazing and the food was even better. I had the torta rustica and it was so fresh and flavourful that I ate the entire, very generous, portion. We also purchased some pastries to go which were also tasty and freshly made. My only negative was that the chef turned down my proposal of marriage. I will make Tweets, and the really cool town of Edision, a regular destination from now on. I decided to check this place out despite the few recent reviews on terrible service. It wasn't bad service it was just slow. The enployees were very nice and friendly. It's a different kind of restaurant where you order at a counter first, you seat yourself and then your order is run out to you. There isn't really a waitress. The restaurant serves mostly local and organic food. The food is prepared behind the counter and somethings are made ahead and displayed. As tasty as the food is, the service is so slow. Super super slow. I would for sure come back but on a day where I have nothing else to do! read more

I know a lot of the negative reviews have something to say about a poor service experience or the lack of space, but when you arrive expecting a line and knowing you may have to wait a moment for a seat things will go amazingly. Everyone at Tweets was friendly and working quickly, making my experience very positive! Yes, it's a little on the spendy side, but the food is well worth it. The espresso was hot and delicious, the Russian Tea Cake my partner and I split was perfectly made, and when the food made it's way out it was BEAUTIFUL! I had Chanterelles with eggs and potatoes, my partner had the pork verde biscuit with an egg, both came with salad on the side as well. The ingredients are clearly very fresh, prepared and plated with care. I was completely satisfied with my meal. Tweets is a charming, unconventional, warm and friendly place and I hope to come back very soon. One should note that it is only open Fri-Sun and they only accept cash or check. It is a walk up counter and everyone is working at a quick pace, so they may not have a lot of time for chit-chat -- be ready with your order or your questions once it's your turn!
