This place needs to be a planned trip when living in Bellingham. Bow is a sleepy little town that has that charming throwback feeling when you drive down the main curvey street to get to Tweets. You look for the front entrance. If it's winter, everything seems to be closed down. You walk around to the side door and enter an eclectic little place that has the feeling of your grandmother's kitchen. The menu has a number of coffees to it. A small assortment of dishes to choose from. (Be forewarned, this place is not inexpensive, and cash or check only!) The items to look intriguing and the staff is very informative on how each dish tastes. I was guided to the Pork Salsa Verde. It is a more flavorful dish, as I was told. I must have been early. The town was quiet, as I waited, the crowds started coming in. The place got packed in under 15 minutes! Then my name was called and the server brought over the dish. The presentation is bold and colorful. A sunny side up fried egg tops this artful dish. Inside was is Verde sauce with fresh Radicchio and seasoned carrots. A yam mash, with a pork pot roast lightly seasoned. The taste did have a bit of a spicy kick to it. Almost a Peruvian flavor to it. This place makes amazing food with generous portions and brews a mean cup of coffee. Servers are helpful and really friendly. The atmosphere is nice, but the owner is a bit rude to guests if you don't appear to belong in the establishment. Despite being paying customers, we felt as though we were talked down to and treated as less than by the owner- this included being yelled at to not claim a table before ordering. As a young woman, I didn't appreciate a grown man raising his voice to me and my other girl friends. There would have been a kind way to bring this up, but he just yelled and pointed at us while quickly rushing away. Because we aren't the type to shy away because of one bad moment, we still stayed for the food which was good. When my friend asked for sugar for her coffee from another employee, he also raised his voice at her, which made her feel talked down to and actually caused her to shed a few tears. We left all feeling disheartened at the experience and felt as though we were not treated with kindness or respect in the restaurant. A bit later we tried this restaurant again with hopes that it was a hard day and we're treated with more tolerance, but were still disappointed. We feel as though we were spoken to with less respect due to both our age and the way in which we were dressed/appeared. Some of the clientele and employees of this establishment I believe also have biases against those who they do not believe fit in. As young women, and with a few women in our group being people of color, we felt stared at and were spoken to shortly, cut in line, or ignored. Warm, cozy and inviting farm to table cafe in the heart of a 2-block artsy 100+ year old town.. Had never been to this area and even though it was a chilly day, there was plenty of activity here. I was with a group of 8 (family from various parts of the country) and everyone loved this little gem. We somehow got lucky and hit it while it was empty (!) we are ordered at the counter, then sat down and our coffees began arriving just in time for the droves of hungry people. There are several other restaurants in the area but from what I was told in the area, Tweets is the favorite..not that there is anything wrong with the other places..the decor is unique, tiny colorful birds and Japanese lanterns are streamed above your head... the food..menu changes often and is posted on a chalk board near the counter. Cash only (come prepared). Most entrees were under $15. Well worth it for delicious locally sourced and creative dishes. If you bring your dog, there is a patio on the side where they can chill and wait for you until you are ready to Continue your exploration of Edison. I have NO idea why I have not made it here before since I live only about 11 miles away. I kept thinking this place is so small it would be difficult to get parking, table or service- WRONG! The place is cozy and fits more people than you would think in such a space. The flow is easy. But the main thing is the customer service and of course the food-is amazing!! Everyone there is very friendly and easy going. They appear to love what they do. Let's start with the coffee. I had almond milk mocha. You could not tell it was almond milk and not too sweet. Juuussstt right! The coffee was bold and not bitter. Truly a pleasure. I ordered the avocado toast which comes with sliced radishes, pickled red onions, soft boiled egg and the kicker- sweet beet hummus on the side. My heart and tastebuds were so happy! My husband had the pork belly breakfast that comes with an egg and the best cheddar biscuit you could ask for. Many people from Seattle were here today just to eat here. A friend and I ate here after driving up from the Seattle area to hike the Oyster Dome. I was so charmed by the atmosphere, with worn wooden tables, glasses of fresh tulips, antique mirrors on the wall, etc. I ordered a mocha, which was perfect, and the praline French toast, which was waaaaay too sweet for one person, so maybe that's a good shareable. Service was pleasant by PNW standards. Gripes: it's cash only (no airline miles -- boo!) and since this tiny place by its nature can't be heavily staffed, it took an uncomfortably long time to get my food. Also, the place can get packed, and when I worried to the cashier about finding a seat, she said we could sit outside (it was cold, windy, and drizzly out. Uh, no). Was driving through Edison and came across this great place for brunch. Had an excellent breakfast, beef brisket and smoked salmon, both excellent. They only take cash and checks, no credit cards, so make sure you have enough cash with you. We were there mid morning and there was a steady flow of people coming in. Really liked the atmosphere and all the staff were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you're around this area and bring a big appetite as the portions are large. read more

Having dined in places like; C.I.A. at Greystone, The Millionaires Club top of the Columbia Tower in Seattle, Canlis, The Met, Kirsten's in La Conner, and Juanita Cafe just to name a few. I have to give Tweets a five star! The eclectic vibe matches the decor which is a perfect beginning of things yet to come. The large, white, mug of Joe? So, delicious, epecially, accompanied with a white, powdery, Mexican Wedding Cake which will soon cover you & your table top. But never fear, Charles and his team are absolutely delightful and very attentive. With great finesse and class he'll politely wipe away the mess and you'll have the pleasure of conversation too boot. No phone needed here! Next time; Blueberry Brioche with Lemon Curd center topped with handmade "whooping cream". Pork Verde was full of flavor, succulent, and very tender served with a Corn bread made with grits, infused with chesse. Had almost a pudding texture but stood up like a soldier amidst the Verde sauce, radiccio, and a medley of fermented/pickles, colorful delights. That meal was a party in my mouth! What a great surprise in the middle of nowhere! Well Edison, WA. I was visiting my cousins family in Mt Vernon. We decided on trying this place due to the great yelper reviews. As we drove through the fields of nothing I asked them where we were headed, maybe they were lost? But 20 minutes of driving which ended up being a nice drive. We ended up in the town of Edison, WA. One street of small shops, vintage stores, and bakery's and this Gem called Tweets. The place is small, has several seating outside and communal tables inside. It's a counter order type place, we were greeted by one of the owners who also makes the coffee (which was fantastic, I had a regular latte) We didn't really need to look at the chalkboard menu because yummy food was displayed behind a glass counter. The quiche and the torta rutiica omg looks amazing! The desserts alone made me drool, pies, cookies and biscotti. Oh my! Ok looks can be deceiving.... Not this place yummmmmmm Inside there was about 6 tables some communal, we ended up seating with other group already eating. We received our coffees shortly after ordering. Yes their was some wait for the food, which I didn't mind at all it was a Sunday afternoon brunch no rush to go anywhere. And once you see the operation of how this place is run you'll understand and will wait for food. The kitchen is open for customer to see. A small oven, a stove a handful of workers love places like this. Our food came and yes it looked amazing, don't know if it was the wait or I was just really hungry but the food was wonderful. We ordered the torta Rustica, chorizo breakfast tacos, and the quiche. Portions are BIG! Three large tacos filled with eggs, sausage, a mixture of coleslaw salad came in a purple soft taco shell (very filling). I'm not big on quiche but this was very tasty, large chunks of artichokes and came with grapes and strawberries and Amazing mix green salad. And my favorite of this meal is the Torta Rustica. It's like a meaty goodness wrapped in the most flakey buttery pastry I've had. This yummy goodness was filled with lots of ham, sun dried tomatoes, potatoes cheese and more cheese, probably more ingredients but it was good and came with the same sides as the quiche. This is an awesome place for brunch! The ambiance is local casual with great vibes. You will be able to taste the love and care that has gone into pairing and making their delicious dishes. They always use the freshest ingredients. The pastries are tasty too! My favorite is the Russian Tea Cake. My little boys however love their oatmeal cookie. Five stars, you ask? I don't know what it is, but this was the perfect place on the perfect Sunday morning. From salivating in line at the short menu of ten items to getting my latte to my breakfast, I couldn't think of one thing I wanted to change. My friends took us here on our way from Bellingham to Seattle to fly home. I fell in love with this little town of Edison (actually reminds me of a bigger Stinson Beach) instantly. I had the Shrimp and Grits with sausage. I'm from Louisiana and this was better than any shrimp and grits I grew up with. I try to eat gluten free, but I was so tempted to try one of their beautiful baked pastries. They were beautiful. My husband got the Torta, which was some kind of magical baked thing with ham and egg and cheese in a beautiful pastry. Don't let the line and the wait scare you. The worst most horrible experience ever. When I was told they wouldn't fill my travel mug, I said "OK, we're leaving" and heard a sarcastic "see ya!" It only gets worse. When my mom asked why they wouldn't fill my mug, she was told it was to protect the staff and customers. We're both vaccinated and wearing masks. It should've ended there. I missed part of the exchange. All I heard was the owner yelling at my 80 year old Mom to "f off and leave now!". That's not acceptable in any circumstances for an owner to verbally assault a customer. As we're leaving, he followed us onto the sidewalk and repeated "get the f out now!" It was suggested by someone that they're great people and trying to keep a certain element out of Bow Edison. So my question is: what element exactly are they trying to keep out? I am very picky with flavorful food. I normally don't eat out and I don't have as exquisite food as most but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. Staff: Very nice and helpful, treats you like family. Food: VERY VERY good. It felt like a rainbow in my mouth and filled me up. We had the rare opportunity to come here on a Friday, since it's only open from Friday-Sunday and it's usually quite busy. I ordered their most popular dish - the shrimp and scallops with grits (I used it to sop up all the sauce from the shrimp...nothing was wasted!) radicchio, and fire-roasted tomatoes. It smelled incredible but I was disappointed that the taste was just great and not amazing. My bf ordered the second most popular dish - the frittata with artichoke and potato, with garden salad. We each liked our own better than the other person's meal, which was perfect! No FOMO here. We finished the meal by sharing their peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie. Oh, my! I adore the food here. Staff is always lovely. It's a good thing this place is all the way out in Bow or I would be broke eating here all the time. Oh and did I mention the coffee. Very good as well. I feel like it's my birthday every time I eat here because it's a party in my mouth! In the summer, I loved being able to have my small dogs with me outside while we ate. Awesome little funky farm to table joint. Complete with fresh baked goods, handmade menu, fresh flowers and freaky people! Edison charm is present and vibrant here. Incredibly fresh, delightful cuisine and even a garage door opening to the east, and community tables. We came here for our Anniversary, July 2015. It made me cry... In a good way! We ordered a very properly prepared Sardine Provincial, and realized we were not experts on the dish. We couldn't bear the tedious task of bone picking. We spoke with the lovely staff, who all seem to be owners and joint proprietors, due to their care and proud ownership of their establishment and the people in it. Well they not only comped our meal, but replaced it with another selection which was obviously divine. Our patronage and devotion was solidified for life. read more

I have made a resolution. I will not go to tweets more than three days in one week. The fact that they are only open Friday through Sunday is a great help in keeping my resolve. The food is ranging from absolutely delicious to fantastic. All cooked from scratch using as much local ingredients as possible. You should try the signature Torta Rustica at least once. The menu changes daily, and if I can think of one shortfall is that there are not much choice for vegans. On the upside, if you like good coffee, they pull some of the best espresso shots in Skagit Valley. At least in my opinion. The Americano is just right. They also do nice cappuccinos, lattes, etc. If your idea of a coffee drink involves a milkshake with flavored syrups and a dash of espresso, though, it might not be your best choice. The staff is very nice and there is a friendly banter with customers from time to time. The kitchen is small, so when there is a rush of people the wait fur food can be long, but even at those times, it's worth it. read more

What an experience we had at Tweets! The location is awesome, it's has that small town charm that everyone loves. If the sun is out, be prepared to wait quite a while in line. From there, the line will lead you to an almost completely illegible hand written menu BUT you can use this opportunity to brush up on your cursive. From that point in line, get excited to be verbally accosted by their barista who (yes) is a grown ass man that likes to say things like "that sounds like a fancy Starbucks drink, we don't make those here" as my husband simply ordered a macchiato and no he didn't want a Starbucks style drink, he wanted an actual DRINK FROM TWEET'S MENU, the audacity right? Also, be sure to come with cash in hand because otherwise, yep you guessed it, you will be publicly shamed by either the same stick up his ass barista or the "annoyed you had the nerve to patron this small business" cashier. Also, this restaurant has adopted the "Stand while you eat" initiative in that you most likely won't be able to find seating BUT if you do, it's cool to make friends with the other strangers since they'll be starring you down until your seat opens up. Not sure if we missed anything...the food was really not that good. - Shrimp & Grits: the pork belly and shrimp were not bad. The grits polenta was meh - Smoked salmon rillette: The toast was crunchy and the salmon was alright, but the salad was WAY too tangy / sour for me - Oatmeal cookie with cranberry and chocolate: My husband liked it. It was nice texture but too sweet for me - Rice crispy with Belgium chocolate: It's alright. Nth too special That being said, the ambience was very rustic and nice. The service was good. The lady at the cashier would chat with you and give you recommendations for places to check out near by. While it makes the service extremely slow if there are a few people in front of you (which could be frustrating), it also means you will get their full attention when it's your turn. Don't go to Tweets if you are in a rush. I think the dishes are made to order so it was reallyyyy slow. They even me have a "be patient" sign on the wall. The price was a bit higher than I had expected given it's location I can't understand why this place is so highly rated, it could just be my flavor profile though. read more

Ahhh the famous Tweets. I come here many Saturday mornings to enjoy some delicious brunch inspired dishes. First things first, it is cash or check only. So it sucks when you stand in line for a bit and get to the register to order to find that out the hard way. My favorite thing about this place is the freshness of the food. They have a good variety on the menu as well. I have tried almost everything with the beef brisket hash being my fav!!! Their coffee is also amazing. After the gobsmackingly rude treatment I received today from Tweets' bearded chef (David), I was going to rate the place zero stars, however, as I left, I ran into Charles (apparently, the owner) and explained what happened. He genuinely apologized, so I'm going with 2 stars for now. WITH David...zero stars. WITHOUT David...five stars. I read about Tweets yesterday on Yelp and it sounded so great that I drove 28 miles (one-way) this afternoon to give it a try. Walking in, it looked just like my kind of place. It was 1:30 p.m., the place was about 1/3 full, and there was no line. I was by myself so I ordered a sampling of $50 worth of food (lunch, plus some to-go). As many have said, the espresso was tasty and the place is nicely funky. The staff wasn't especially effusive, so I just pretended that I was in NYC, and adjusted to the brusqueness. You order at the counter, then find an open table to wait at until they yell out your name, at which point, you're supposed to yell back to let them know where you are so they can bring over your food. So, for about 20 minutes, I'm basking out on their fabulous porch, sipping their fabulous coffee, soaking up the fabulous sunshine, and thinking, "What a perfect place...I'm gonna bring all my friends and rave about this place on Yelp!" Then, thinking I heard my name, I got up to see if my Torta Rustica was ready. As I walked in, the female cook looked up and said, "Your order isn't quite together yet," so I said, "No problem." Seeing it was only seconds away from being ready, I decided to hang around so I wouldn't have to come back from my outside table. While standing there, I asked, "So, is your lamb locally raised?" She said yes, and then David, who was cooking nearby, loudly said, "PLEASE DON'T ASK QUESTIONS! ! WE'RE REALLY BUSY TRYING TO PUT THESE ORDERS TOGETHER AND DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ALL YOUR QUESTIONS!" I mean, fricking "Hello?!" As soon as I regained my composure, I said, "So, I guess I should just SHUT UP?!" He nodded. Patrons at nearby tables looked up and rolled their eyes as if they'd seen this before. If I hadn't already paid in advance, I would've walked out. Unfortunately, I HAD paid, so I just sucked it up. I wasn't inclined to put a tip in the tip jar, however, so apologies to the rest of the staff for that. The fun thing is the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. The not fun thing is when there's a jerk in the kitchen, it spoils the experience. David should be a short order cook at a seedy longshoremen's dive. And that's probably an insult to longshoremen. I'll go back when I hear that David is gone or is relocated to a back room where he isn't inflicted on customers. read more
