I recently ordered takeout lunch from Twin Dragons Mandarin Cuisine and was excited to try a new local spot since I'm new to Auburn. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the start. The woman helping me at the front was very rude during our interaction. Since it was my first time there, I was simply asking a few questions about the menu, but I felt unwelcome the entire time. Honestly, I considered leaving before ordering, but I still wanted to give the restaurant a chance because I was hoping to find a good new go-to place nearby. I ordered the lunch special Peking pork with fried rice, which also came with an egg roll. The Peking pork had very little actual meat and was mostly thick fried breading. Because of the sauce, the breading became soggy and lacked texture and flavor. The broccoli on the side was bland, and the fried rice also had very little flavor. I also ordered the combination chow mein, which was probably the best part of the meal. The portion size was decent, although the noodles seemed slightly undercooked. For the two dishes, the total came out to around $38, which felt overpriced, especially for lunch specials and the quality of the food. On a positive note, the inside of the restaurant looked clean and had a nice atmosphere. There were several employees working, so I can't speak for everyone there, but the customer service I personally received at the front was not pleasant. While the restaurant is in a mini strip mall, the inside of the restaurant was very nice - plenty of tables and booths. The Chinese Zodiac paper placemats were fun and nostalgic. First off, if you're coming for dinner, the servings are large and designed for family style sharing of dishes. We went with my mom, my wife and me and the three of us are not huge eaters (but we love our Chinese food). So if you're in a smaller group, be ready for leftovers. The prices reflect the portion sizes so while $19/dish seems a little pricey, you're getting 3-4 servings per dish so reasonable. If you want to try out multiple dishes, bring 4-6 people! Okay, ranking what we had. The potstickers were fantastic - a plate of 6 and each potsticker was HUGE and very flavorful.. Some of the best potstickers we've had. The hot and sour soup was okay - again a small bowl serves 3 people. The BBQ ribs were just okay. The beef and broccoli was very good, well cooked and well seasoned. Finally the honey glazed prawns was enjoyable. The service was a little hit and miss, we could have used a little more hovering once we got our food to get items like knifes to cut the ribs and prawns but they did a very nice job of packaging up our leftovers and were helpful with my mom using her walker. So pretty good, all in. Mom went there for lunch and the lunches were designed for more, single person/portion dishes so if we go back, it would probably be for lunch. read more

On our way back from an appointment, my client and I stopped for some delicious food. She has been craving Twin Dragon Mandarin Cuisine and used to live close and walk over.. We pulled in at 11:15 and I walked in to place a to go order so we could take it to her home. I was greeted right away as I walked in and ordered my client and I the same thing. The lunch special Sesame chicken ($17.95) and instead of rice, I upgraded to chowmein ($3.75 upcharge). I was quoted 15 minutes and it was ready a few minutes sooner than that. I asked for some chili oil, soy sauce, and didn't know they put eggrolls and fried wonton in our lunch specials, but they put sweet & sour sauce in our bag to go with those! To go orders do not get to take the soup that normally comes with the lunch special. You need to dine in for that. Twin Dragon Mandarin Cuisine looked stunning on the inside. Their layout inside was tables and a few booths. The booths looked as if they could've been for a romantic setting. It was not too busy yet, thank goodness for me, since they had opened just shortly before arriving. When we got to my clients home in Rocklin, our chicken was still nice and hot, and honestly, we could've shared one lunch special with the amount of food there was. You get very big portions for the lunch special (we could've shared one and still had leftovers). I liked how they gave us sweet & sour sauce for the eggrolls. We ate out of the boxes and as good as the flavor was, the chicken was unfortunately very chewy. The eggrolls were nice and crunchy. The chowmein was ok. It had big thick noodles which aren't my favorite. Another downside - I can tell the chili oil that they gave me had been sitting there for a while. It tasted like the plastic container it was stored in. Almost had zero flavor and not spicy. Their customer service was great. DON'T FORGET TO TIP!! I've eaten at A lot of different Chinese restaurants- well, how to I say it kindly... this is the worse Chinese food I ever had!! All the dishes were bland, flavorless and horrible from the over cooked broccoli, tiny slivers of chicken and beef! Shrimp were old and mealy... never have I ever passed up for seconds but this time, I couldn't eat another bite! Paid $98 for this kind of garbage! I can't see why people were eating in the restaurant. I know this isn't the Bay Area so expectations are lowered but really? The food is not good quality at all. My wife, a friend, and, I had the lunch specials today: I had General's chicken, steamed rice, hot &sour soup, egg roll, and a BBQ pork bun. The soup was slightly sweet which I didn't care for, the pork bun was excellent, the egg roll was ok, and the chicken was uninspiring. My wife had Kung Pao chicken and seemed to enjoy it. Our friend had Sweet and Sour pork but found it over sauced. The portions are large. The service was outstanding and the dining area was clean. On balance Twin Dragon's is perfectly acceptable if you are looking for cooking that offers no surprises but will satisfy your cravings for Chinese food. We will return. read more

Twin Dragon is the traditional hole in the wall, strip mall Chinese restaurant and I am 100% here for these small town old school vibes. The minute we drove by it we had to stop. The inside is what you would expect. Super 90s vibes but also really clean and welcoming. The staff here are so friendly and really appreciate your business. The service and kindness alone ensured I couldn't give this spot less then 4 stars. Our waitress checked up on us often and engaged us in conversation, she was invested in us being newbies to her restaurant and wanted to ensure we were happy. The prices are also super reasonable. For a sit down restaurant with some good classic Chinese food the price was A-OK. You won't break the bank and you'll leave full. The food was relatively good, some items were lackluster but other items were perfect. Surprisingly the simpler items were just "okay" such as the starter egg drop soup and their fried rice was meh. However, the main dishes made up for it and we were both super happy with our choices. The beef chow fun with extra sauce was delicious! The best dish of the night, super filling and great flavors. Also their shrimp with lobster sauce was good, not the best I've ever had, but I was impressed with the freshness of the shrimp in that dish and it did hit the spot.
