While visiting in town for several days near the Convention Center, and like many others, I stumbled upon this place on a Saturday. I have to admit Saturday was poppin!!! The place is broken up into 2 parts and the outside patio was on point with the DJ who was on some Classic R&B and hip-hop but blended it well with lots of new music. The crowd was a mix of locals and visitors, (and yeah, we are easy to tell as we act like we ain't been out in ages so we really act a fool!!!! Either way, it was the right vibe for all of us. Drinks were easy to get from the bar, but our server was on point!!!! She checked on us as soon as I was low and knew what to do. In town visiting for work and stumbled onto this place after searching on Yelp. We arrived early in the evening and it was totally empty, however we could tell they would be busy later from the staff preperations taking place. We sat out on the patio, had a few drinks and ordered some food. Based on the vibe (typical dance club/bar) we had low expectations for the food, but to our surprise everything we ordered was really tasty! Our waitress was attentive and friendly as well. Only small complaint was that they had a incredibly loud dance music blasting on the patio which seemed totally unecessary given that it was so early, and it was only us and maybe one other table out there. What once was the boiler room for the Utah Stock Exchange building is now a hip upscale bar. I saw it when I was on a walking tour downtown, and made a mental note that I wanted to return. As luck would have it, I found out that they were hosting the "Gays of '47" party a few days later and thought 'what better event to attend?" So I snagged my wife and we headed downtown for the evening. We got there pretty early-around 5:30. I believe there is usually a cover, but it was waved during the 5-6:00 hour. There was a small group gathered which we became friends with pretty quickly. It turns out these were folks from the Utah Pride Center, LGBT Chamber and Equality Utah. Kirk, the bar owner, was also mingling with customers. Later in the night, he bought a round of shots for our table. The service was fantastic-not only did Kris keep our drinks filled and check on us appropriately, but when the weather unleashed torrential rain, all the staff jumped in place to move things off the patio and usher folks inside. I'm kind of glad it rained, because it made us go indoors-and I really wanted to check the whole place out. Inside, there is a good sized bar, lots of tables and bit tv screens all around. The building is on the historical registry-so it's not new and modern. That means there may be some things like a leak in the ceiling or no AC in the bathroom. No big deal-I'd happily forego those conveniences for the charm of the place. It's really a cool building with a lot of personality. As the night went on, more and more people arrived and I could tell that this would be a "happening" place. However, my bedtime was approaching and the call of the 6am alarm clock was on my mind, so we did not stay to see how the party would unfold. But I imagine it was fabulous. read more

Cash-grab excuse of a "club" that charges cover prices as if you were on the Las Vegas Strip. In reality, it's just a restaurant that's pushed their tables to the side & turned on loud music. Pathetic. Don't walk outside to take a phone call, they'll charge you a cover charge again even though you have proof of entry. "No reentry" they told me. Unbelievable. Not to mention the bartenders will TIP THEMSELVES 20% on everything you order. Place is a joke. Staff is rude and deceptive, especially in line as you walk up to pay. If this operation was anywhere outside of Utah where nightlife pickings are slim, they'd have been out of business years ago. Just avoid. I was paying cash for the night but was told they needed a card on file. Total for a burger, fried pickles and 4 drinks came out to almost $90. And they still charged my card! First they tried charging $45 for the food and 1 drink on the tab but it's a prepaid card I transfer little cash at a time especially when I'm out and avoiding fraud! Card didn't work, server says "we'll just leave it open" but the next day, it shows a purchase for $37; basically whatever they could get out of it. How is this possible? I'll update y'all if it posts to my bank because I paid out in cash so there should not have been any charges to my card whatsoever. Pickles came out first. Very hot. Good though. Burger took 45 minutes. I guess I should've read what the mushroom swiss burger consisted of. I was expecting a big burger. It was made out of sourdough bread. Meh. Burger was a little dry. First time going to Twist. Went for the Yelp Elite brunch and dog show. Twist has good food and their drinks are well balanced with flavor. Nice outdoor patio to sit at and a cute little bar. Live music was good also. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I've never heard of this place or seen it until I got an invite for a birthday party. I would've even continued walking past this bar if I didn't know to meet here. It's hidden behind the green pig bar and across from maxwells on exchange place so maybe that's why you forget about this place. Parking is bad, so it's best to park in the garage for $5.00 down the street. The lock the doors if you park higher up so you may be taking the stairs or walking around through the entrance. It's a bar, so be prepared to surrender your ID when you come. I sat at the bar waiting for the friends to arrive and I order an old fashion....I ask him to make it pretty because I take pictures of my food and his response was "this isn't a craft bar sweetie." Ew! He tried and it turned out ok after some encouragement lol. Then he checked to see if I tipped him on the receipt looking really hard at it. I tipped $2.00 for a $7.00 drink which is more than normal because he attempted to make it pretty for it not being at a craft bar. See below. He also told me the food is delicious here. I'll be the judge of that!!! Homies finally come and we ordered some apps. Artichoke dip-too creamy and flavorless Quest dip- tasted like velveeta with some diced tomatoes on top. It was warm and quickly turn cold. So it was harder to dip unless you scrape it with your fork. Not good at all. Portobello mushroom sticks- this was gross. Don't go here on a hot day all the place does is have fans, I went in there and literally counted 8 to 10 fans. They also charge a 20% gratuity whether you get good service or not, so you can be the judge on that one and their food is mediocre. We came here for my wife's birthday. Went downstairs to dance, I got threatened by a group of guys, when my wife stepped in to de-escalate the situation, a girl with them started shoving her. Then 3 large bouncer came and instead of asking us what happened or telling us to leave, they grabbed my wife who is 5'5" forcibly by her arms behind her back and started carrying her upstairs. I started after them to get her and leave and got 2 drinks thrown at me from the girls that went after my wife. When I got to the bouncer I asked him to put her down and we will walk right out, but he instead pulled her harder and threatened me that he would beat both of us up. Instead of a fun birthday she ended traumatized in tears with an injured arm and multiple Bruises, because the bouncers used excessive force. Met with nieces and their spouses (ten in our group) for a few hours on a Friday night. Wasn't as loud as I expected. They had several TVs on the main floor, big tables, cozy tables and two big bars. A private party was in the basement with pool tables, video games, etc. We parked across the street in a multi-level garage for $5. Our server Stori was great. So my team met up here and honestly I arrived late so I wasn't able to enjoy the outside. We originally thought it was supposed to be jazz night but it was a totally different band. We came here for Sunday brunch because when we called they said they didn't have a wait. Now we know why there is nobody here... The brunch was expensive for small portions, and the food was not good. They ran out of Bloody Mary's, and the staff was unhelpful and unenthusiastic. There was no mention of the auto-gratuity for our 3-person party, and our waitress was unapologetic about it when we said the bill sounded too high. Next time we'll wait to be seated at a better restaurant, this experience was very disappointing . And to the owner responding to each review saying how hard it is improving your business because it's a historical building -- our issues have nothing to do with your building (although your bathroom is gross). This place is a disaster. If you're over the age of 25, you're way too old to be going here - most of the guests here are 21 and are thirsty to "get some." Amateur DJs blast music on broken sound equipment so loud, you can't even have a conversation with another person 12 inches next to you. The drinks here are expensive, weak, and taste incredibly watered down. It's beyond me why anyone would come here. If you stop by past 10pm or so, they start charging a cover of $5. She was rude from the get go, sounded annoyed that drinks were being order and became hostile. This review is based on the dineoround series. Came in at 4pm with a group of 4 people (later turned into 5). No one else was in here but our table. Server/bartender was super nice in greeting us and gave us the disclaimer that it's her first shift working the dinner shift. I been wanting to try this place but never came around to it. Thank goodness for the dineoround series that gave me a reason to finally give it a gander. I ordered the dineoround menu that included a simple salad, pappardelle with choice of protein (I chose salmon), and coconut lime sherbet. I also ordered a virgin margarita. My colleagues had a couple of beers, salmon entree, pretzel, falafel burger, as well as the dineoround option. My virgin margarita was watered down- so disappointing because I paid $3 for a non alcoholic watered down drink. The salads came out first which I didn't touch because I was saving my stomach for the entree (don't worry it didn't go to waste because my colleague packed it togo). The entree was delivered soon after and at this point only one more table had come in. The salmon was good but the pappardelle and marina sauce was just okay for me. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. I had a bite of the pretzel and surprisingly this was the item I like best! My colleagues and I were pretty much done with our entrees around 4:55. I was keeping an eye on the clock because I had to leave for another dinner date at 5:10. I asked our server for my check and inquired about the sorbet. Our server stated she will check on them and bring out my check first, awesome right? I spoke too soon. It's now 5:20 and I already paid, and still no dessert. Unfortunately, I had to leave before I got a taste, even a small licking would have been fine!! I've been here a few times in the past, but honestly, nothing was notable enough to write about those experiences. My most recent trip warrants the review. I came in with 3 friends at around 7pm on a weekend evening, we were able to find a table pretty fast and surprisingly the place wasn't crazy busy (at least upstairs). Our waitress got to us pretty fast and took drink orders, which were also delivered fairly fast. The food took a while to get to us and reached each person separately and was pretty delayed between each person. My sister's order was wrong and it took a while for someone to stop by to indicate that fact. By the time she got the right order, most of us were close to finishing eating. Pricing here seemed weirdly high, I paid $15 for what was supposedly a house vodka & soda. Even weirder, the waitress didn't give us itemized bills and rushed us to pay and tip BEFORE our food was delivered to our table. The food itself was decent, the fries were good, but the burger sat atop a completely sogged through bun, so I resorted to a fork and knife. Twist is our sports league sponsor bar so we all decided to stop by here after a game. The environment is cool, I hear it can get crazy on weekends when a younger crowd comes in but it was a really chill spot on a Wednesday night. Bartenders are nice, and drink service was quick and accessible. I also ordered food here and that service was significantly slower. I tried the mac and cheese which was ok. The pasta was creamy and cheesy but lacked seasoning and flavor. It was only 5 bucks so for the price I was pretty pleased. The other selling factor is that they have a nice outdoor space. Good place to start a Saturday night after skiing all day. Ordered some sandwiches, onion rings, tacos, and drinks. This place has good drink prices, as low at $4. There is indoor and outdoor seating, it isn't too loud during dinner, but there is music on in the background. Onion rings are wayyyyy over fried, more fried than onions, tbh. This review is for 2/11/18 at around 2pm. The place was pretty quiet when we came in, which was nice for a Sunday afternoon. The bartender came to us quickly and sat us, letting us know that her co-worker had gone home sick and so it was just her working. This actually had no effect on our perception of speed of service, but I did appreciate that she let us know in advance to set our expectations. The interior was clean, the lighting on the dimmer side and that fit the ambiance of what the place was trying to convey. I really liked how unique and rustic the decor was. I like that there are three different dining area options--patio, main floor, and downstairs. I also liked how the kitchen was semi-open. The drink menu looked very inviting, but we decided to stick with water for myself and a virgin sunrise for my dining companion. I would like to come back and sample their drink menu though. The menu was still breakfast, so my dining companion ordered the biscuits and gravy, and I ordered the veggie omelet with everything but the black beans and added some pepper jack. I really liked the seasoning on the hash browns, but they were a little too spicy for my spice adverse dining companion, who thought they were much better with some sour cream to tone it down. My omelet was very flavorful and delicious. I was really happy that olives and jalapenos were on the list of possible options. My dining companion liked his biscuits and gravy as well. Portion sizes were a little larger than standard, in my opinion, but I'm not a big eater, so that may just be my perspective. Our server/bartender, Sylvya, was awesome. Very attentive, friendly, and professional. Also, prices were very reasonable. When traveling, I tend to rely on social media sites to help guide me towards restaurants that I might find interesting and which would offer food I'd enjoy. On a recent trip to Salt Lake City, I was "guided" but these sites to try Twist... It's rare that these social media sites get this wrong, but on this trip, they sure did! Upon walking in, it looked like an old pool hall and bar. The menu looked decent, with many "bar food" type items, but the couple of things we tried we not very good and one thing we ordered, they were out of. Service was quick and very friendly and prices were very reasonable. It's not all negative due to that, so if I were visiting SLC and really wanted to go drink on the cheap, I'd return here for sure. read more

What we look for is dog friendly patios and Twist has got it!!! I don't know if it is dog friendly always as we've only been here during day light hours. Awesome big shaded patio in the late afternoon. Awesome food selection and Fantastic drink selection. Oh I forgot to add just how cool the inside is. Multi level with a bar on every level. Food and drinks served everywhere. Super cool intact boiler on the lower level, real neat to see. Also several pinball machines on the lower level as well. read more

I can't with this place. Let me just first preface that both the bartenders and security staff are incredibly friendly and efficient for how packed it is. On a less crowded night, it might be a decent place to hang with some pinball machines but on a weekend it has a stale college frat vibe. And yet, doesn't serve pitchers. It sent us over the edge when the owner, in plain clothes, came up to our table and offered to buy us drinks. Surprised, we thanked him and named off a few drinks. He came back with their server and told us how much it would cost and ran off laughing. ?!? Weird at best and incredibly rude at worst. Plus.... there was puke out front. Decided to try a new spot this evening, so glad we chose Twist! The atmosphere is fun, plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, and the food is delicious and decently priced.
