So disappointed; I've been wanting to come here since I moved to Dallas in December 2019. Saw the triple D episode and it looked totally cool and the food sounded awesome. I came here today at 2pm on Monday Presidents' Day holiday. Horrible service, the guy at the counter seemed half baked to just asleep. I asked about getting a drink at the bar and he said no, there was no one at the bar today. I had to settle for a PBR in the bin by the cash register, which was out of ice, and beer as barely cold. I orders the all American medium; it was barely pink, a preformed patty that was dry as a bone. I had to smother it in Mayo and ketchup, the cheese was good. I had my German exchange high school student with me too - he was not impressed either, said Germany had better burgers. Cheese fries were soggy and cheese was gross, did not melt well. The real star of this burger was definitely the guacamole, however. Creamy with a little bit of spice, the guacamole matched nicely with the sweet chipotle sauce that was used. Also incorporated the complimentary pickled that were provided, which were honestly pretty gas as well. Been a regular for years and finally doing the justice of adding a review: We've always loved coming here and moving (20 min walk away vs 7) then covid shutting things down, we were so grateful for them to reopen!!! Not to mention they now carry mosaic love their salads, onion rings, pickles, burgers, service, and most of all shakes.... It's become a 'right of passage' or the cool thing to do when nieces and nephews come spend the night and tonight was one nephew's first time. We walked in at 9:09 not realizing they closed at 9 trying to get the infamous shakes. The bartenders let us know they closed and apologized so we left. 30 seconds later one sweet bartender chased us to come back for our shakes. Yep, I did it. I ate the whole burger. A thick, juicy, gluten free burger. I'm actually having a hard time writing this review because my body is shutting down like it does after a Thanksgiving meal. I can't even eat my GF fries. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and just realized I forgot to take a pic because I got so excited when I saw my burger. Two years ago, before I even moved to Dallas, Twisted Root was on my radar, thanks to a recommendation from renowned chef Marcus Samuelson. Always on the search for "real" burgers (cannot do fast food burgers), I decided to visit and quickly fell in love with this place (now one of my faves in the DFW area). So where to start - there is always a line out the door when I visit but they move pretty quickly. Staff is upbeat and quirky, occasionally getting out from behind the counter and walking through the restaurant to see if they can get you anything. You order your food at the counter, they give you a cool "name" ticket of a real or fictional celebrity/character, and when they call you up to get your food, they get in character - breaking into song, quoting a movie line etc (funny). There is a bar area you can sit at, the main dining, and an outdoor patio. Jars of complimentary pickles (different flavor options) line a little section of the counter. So let's talk about their shakes! I used to have a favorite strawberry shake before I tried the one at Twisted Root and alas now it is VERY HARD for me to find any other that measures up! Hand-spun custard shake, with chunks of strawberry and smothered with whipped cream! YUMMYLICIOUS! Even though it is rich, it has a "light" airy feel going down my tummy. They have adult shakes as well (bananas & baileys, oreo & amaretto etc) Right, so the burgers! Can we say juicy and cooked to perfection! I tried The Verde - nice sized patty, covered with hatch chilies, guacamole, and pepperjack. Deliciously seasoned with a spicy kick! And if you're feeling adventurous, they also offer unique game meat burgers like camel, venison, buffalo, and rabbit or whatever is in season. Great Burgers! The cheeseburger was huge! The patty is cooked perfect. They had wide range of flavors of homemade sodas and root-beers. The fries were soggy but still good. There was a bar in the middle which was cool. The way you ordered was interesting. You would wait in line to order your burger then move a few feet down and order your sides and other stuff. If you want a really good hamburger this is your place. I'm not brave enough to try any of the other meats they offer like elk, buffalo etc... The flavor and seasoning they use is perfect. I'm not a big fan of hand cut fries but theirs are perfectly seasoned and crispy not soggy. The atmosphere is fun and makes for a nice experience especially if you've never been. They also have kids burgers which is great because they're not always offered. The price is a little higher for a burger but we don't go often so it's worth it! read more

The line moved decently and the beer was cold as I sat down and watched the world (and the NBA playoffs) go buy. Well, you can't have just one. And so after the last tasty sandwich and beverage, I wandered down the street to Twisted Root and only learned much later that this was a "DDD" location. I can see why he would have stopped by. It's a little hipster, a little yuppie and a lot dive bar. And they serve great burgers. So there's a line that runs from the register to the door, turning a corner and going halfway back. But there are open seats at the bar. And when I asked if I could also order a burger at the bar, I was set. So there's your tip from Bruce - sit at the bar because you're going to get a beer anyway, right? While sipping away at my draft, I studied the menu and opted for the "Enough Said" which is a burger topped with cheddar and peppercorn ranch dressing. And POTATO CHIPS. Hell, yes. I just had beef, but they also do "exotic" meats including buffalo and elk and I think I saw ostrich on the menu. Second tip: With the Enough Said, you don't need fries. Trust me on this. Unfortunately, the bartender, who was busy hitting on a pretty blonde three stools down from me, thought I needed fries too. Don't get me wrong. The fries are good. But when you've already got chips ON your burger, you don't need the fries too. Third tip: They will cook all burgers to "medium-well" unless you ask. I prefer "medium rare." I am used to just having Twisted Root at the DWF airport. Visited the restaurant in Deep Elum and found it to be even better. Burgers are never a disappointment and the atmosphere was great. I always enjoy a bacon burger, so I recommend the Kevin Bacon. A full bar is a plus. I would spend time here to watch a game. What makes it even more fun is the use of celebrity names instead of numbers for your order. The girl behind the counter make it even better with her improvisation when calling out the names.
