I was definitely impressed with the live jazz, as it reminded me of when I could actually hear it when visiting Bemelman's (WAY back in the day), but I digress. I've been here a couple of times and always had good experiences, but I think the place has gone down recently. The ambiance remains old school, classic New York with wonderful live music. However, it just doesn't operate like a well oiled machine anymore. We came on a weeknight with a few other folks. We asked to order the chicken tikka and the waiter promptly mentioned that they were out. How are you out of chicken? Additionally, the food menu is so small now that it leaves a lot to be desired - hardly any decent options. Drinks at the Pierre have always been a premium, but you could taste the quality and they felt worth it. I ordered a Memento Mori (mezcal based cocktail) and it was soooo spicy that it was undrinkable. Did the bartender check this? Or worse, is this how they always make this? This is a hard review to write. I have visited the lounge on more than one occasion. The bar and wait staff is consistently top notch, and that still remains true. I really wonder who is managing this place now. Whoever they are, (and I say that because I never see any managers in TwoE) they are doing a grave disservice to the customers and staff. The new food and cocktail menus are awful. I was there not long after implementation and it was clear the team was not given the tools they need to make the cocktails. What kind of luxury hotel runs out of coup and martini glasses? The drinks are overly complex and pretentious as hell. Give me a Gin Gin any day of the week and I'll come back! The best part of TwoE has been the Indian options on the menu. I always liked how The Pierre celebrated that they are an Indian company. Now the food is just plain boring. I paid $35 for guacamole and chips. It was the blandest guacamole I've ever had, and the 8-10 chips on the plate were stale and flavorless as well. My friend ordered a shrimp cocktail (why is that even on the menu? How uninventive), but it was't even available. Why aren't you asking your most precious resource, the team on the floor and behind the bar at TwoE what the customers like? The new menu seems like it was created by some high end consulting firm who has no idea who comes to the lounge. I know this is a long and personal review, but I always enjoyed visiting TwoE on my trips to NYC, and now you've taken that away from me. Came here for traditional afternoon tea with a group of 4 and was very pleased! Service was very attentive, each person got their own choice of tea, and there were plenty of options for sweet and tart treats. The decor is very classic, and has an estate like feel to it. My one complaint is that some of the food options were not particularly flavorful, although very visually appealing. For example - cucumber sandwiches are a favorite for me when it comes to afternoon tea, and this one had almost no taste other than that of the bread. Additionally, some of the sweets just tasted like straight sugar and had no complex flavor to them. On Groupon, it is $99 for Afternoon Tea for two and $125 for Royal Tea for two - only difference is two glasses of champagne. (You'll still pay tax + tip at the end) Definitely get the Groupon because regularly it is $148 and $178 for the Afternoon and Royal Tea for two respectively. We were able to get same day reservations within 2 hours of calling. The tea service came with two pots of teas and everything on the food menu each. We ordered the Pierre and Rotunda blends which were both good. I love rose teas personally so the Rotunda blend was right up my alley. Food-wise, we thought the scones were the best but the sandwiches were a bit dry. There was definitely plenty of food even for two people who hadn't eaten lunch. Ultimately, giving 4 stars because the service was a bit scarce. It was rather difficult to flag down a waiter for anything. The tea service is normally $65 but we had a groupon, which made it so much more of a bargain. I had the Margaret's Hope tea, which is great if you are a fan of black teas, and I loved the scones. The only real thing I can criticize is that I mistakenly thought each of the scones was a different flavor, so I excitedly bit into the 2nd one only to be disappointed that it was the same as the first... but that's because I clearly can't read! The longer: we purchased a Groupon (TBT), because we'd heard amazing things about the afternoon tea at the Pierre. It didn't disappoint. We started with champagne at the bar. The bartender gave us some yummy bar snacks (olives, cheddar crackers & popcorn). When we moved to get seated, the bar and tables started to fill up. The service was great throughout, though. We got a comfy table for 2 and ordered tea and the afternoon tea food tower. My tea was AMAZING. It was a house-made rotunda blend of black and green tea. Seriously.. better than tea I had in London. The food on the towers was good- but I didn't love a couple of things. The salmon was a little fishy & some of the pastries were too dense... but the SCONES. Holy shiz. So good. The cookies, fruit tarts, scones & mini chicken salad sandwiches were all so, so yummy. I highly recommend this as a fun & different activity to do in NYC. Also, we specifically chose to visit during the live jazz hours (Thursday - Saturday from 6:30pm - 9:30pm). I liked that I was able to make a reservation ahead of time, even for drinks. The drinks are on the pricey end of the spectrum, and even though there were house-special cocktails in addition to the standard cocktails, none of the cocktails wow'ed me. The cheese platter we ordered was generous and I was delighted that it came with brie. There were also snacks that seemed to be complimentary with drink orders (seasoned popcorn, biscotti, and olives). The decor is decadent and I loved the quiet jazzy piano in the background. It was the perfect volume so that we could enjoy the music but also hear each other while we spoke. The service was great- timely, respectful, and not too bothersome. The place is beautiful. Decorated pretty ornately, it exudes grandeur. We had reservations and our table was ready to go as we arrived. We were a few mins late bc of the train but the hostess was very accommodating. Our server explained the tea process and we ordered our teas. We tried one black tea with cardamom and another fruity one with mangos and strawberries. Very nice and refreshing. The pastries and snacks arrived shortly after. They were presented beautifully. The server asked us about any allergies and was able to accommodate all our needs. The mini lobster roll was the best along with the almond cookies dipped with powdered sugar. The mini Curry chicken quiche was good as well. Took pictures of all the treats. The bathroom was very clean and well maintained. We went for The Pierre Blend and The Lapsang Souchong (Smoky Flavor) The three tier tea stand came out with Tea Sandwiches on the top. The Pumpernickel bread was a bit salty- Salmon was good. My favorite was the Spiced Chicken Tartlet Miniature dates & Babaganoush Crepe was creamy Middle tier had the scones and buttered cookies. Like using both the Lemon Curd and Devonshire Cream. Bottom tier had pastries-blueberry & raspberry tarts, macaroons, and chocolate madelines just to name a few. It was a hidden oasis for the time spent here. Whenever you find yourself in Up town, say 61st & 5th Avenue, the Pierre Hotel and it's beautiful famous tea room is a perfect spot to rest your feet and dine on their amazing treats. Just a stone's throw from Central Park, this tea room extraordinaire is perfectly received. My visit in late November of 2016, was a great time to enjoy this hotel and this area. New York city was decked out in incredibly festive holiday spirit from sparkling lights to decorative Christmas trees and ribbons galore. It's such a wonderful joyous time to visit truly. Like a well traveled gal, I love luxury, but never want to waste my money. Luckily Groupon offers a deal for around $120 for a tea afternoon during high peak holiday hours, that covers two guests. Regular prices are typical $75 per person, plus tax & tip darlings. Walking through this super luxe 5 star hotel is such a treat in itself. With expensive furniture and exquisite designs, you know it's going to be an experience to remember. I called two weeks prior to my visit and made reservations, which are a must. Walkins probably won't find an open table. So take a few minutes and plan ahead. My Yelp friend and I arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation time, but we're promptly sat at a quiet table next to a gorgeous fireplace with holiday trimmings on and around the mantle. Our server took out tea order and within minutes had our food and drink out soon after. Sipping leisurely was so nice. Talking with my friend, delightful. Eating the Pierre' s house made sandwiches and dessert to die for. I wasn't starving when we went, but was hungry all the same. So I had my dessert treats wrapped up to go. I tipped 25%, and left with a happy experience. We were a little rushed for our time there. Hence 4 star rating versus 5. The hotel booked a last minute engagement party that condensed the amount of time we were allowed. So, not a big deal, but kinda unfortunate since I don't live in the area. This is one of the best teas I have been to. I am very impressed with excellence of each item. Each element of the recipes were a stand out. They make everything in house, which is quite a feat. The flavors had a very well thought out progression from the seafood to the veg to the curry chicken on the savory tier. The scones were generously portioned, which was just fine with me. Those were the freshest scones I have had since pastry school! They reminded me of an incredibly light shortbread, with a little bit of pillowy texture inside and melt in your mouth crunch on the outside. Served with lemon curd, raspberry jam, and whipped butter. All well done. The bottom tier had excellent tarts, a mini muffin (might be my favorite), pavlova, and a macaron. It's Christmastime in the city when I come here for afternoon tea. It had been a consistently lovely and festive experience in years past, but this year was a disappointment. Pros: - Decor. A Christmas tree and decorations give some warmth to the elegant lounge area. - Food. I always leave with a goody bag of pastries that we just couldn't fit after endless looseleaf tea, sandwiches, and impeccable scones. The Devonshire cream is delicious, but note that it's not the same as clotted cream, which I personally prefer. - They are very accommodating of my shellfish allergy by offering duplicates of the allergy-free tea sandwiches. Cons: In years past I would have given 5 stars, but we had a few issues this year that knocked off two stars: - Our waiter had trouble understanding what we were asking for due to a bit of a language barrier. This resulted in an incorrect sandwich order regarding my allergy, which could have been dangerous. - It took about 45 minutes after we finished our tea and meal for us to get the check. This wasn't a nice situation of "not being rushed," but was an issue that our waiter went MIA. No water, no tea refill, no check. - Despite making a reservation months ago in preparation for the busy holiday season, we were seated at a table way in the back, wedged between the kitchen and the bar, which felt as if it were halfway behind the bar. Staff kept walking by, brushing against our chairs and I had to duck out of the way more than once. It just felt cheap and took away from the experience. The hotel itself has a beautiful lobby and after getting a little lost and finally finding the lounge, it was inviting and the seats were super comfy. You each get to choose your own tea. I got The Des Lords that was on the light side that went well with all the sandwiches and pastries because it wasn't overpowering. It was a bit bitter and spicer that I had wished for. Perhaps, something sweet could be better. The other tea we got, Garden of Dreams was sweet, flowery and pure. I won't bore you with each item that's on each tier but I will say the assortment was lovely and delicious. I didn't feel rushed to leave by staff even though I was there for 2+ hours. They were still attentive by stopping by every so often to refill our tea pots with hot water but wasn't overbearing. When they brought our check they even included a cute card with the chef's recipe for cranberry scones! I understand that they have to pre make it in order to keep up with the orders, but the bread tastes like it's been out for days. My favorite food item on the menu were their scones, they are delicious! They are warm and hard and crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. It comes with three spreads devonshire cream, blueberry jam, and lemon curd. My favorite with the scones was the devonshire cream, it doesn't have a strong flavor but it pairs really well with the buttery scones. My friend really loved the lemon curd, it's tangy and sweet, she smothered her scones with it! I took a small bite of each dessert but one of the desserts really stood out for me besides the blueberry tartlet. The blueberries were super fresh and sweet, but the dessert itself wasn't too sweet. They have a semi wide selection of tea, I got to the tropical blend and it was very light and fruity. It's one of the mellower teas on the menu, and it smells really nice. My friend got the rotunda blend which leaves a nice minty after taste. The ambience of the place was very nice, it wasn't very loud and it has a calming atmosphere. I had the pleasure of coming here last week with a Groupon for Traditional Afternoon Tea service with my friend, and have only great things to say about this place. We were promptly attended to by the hostess upon entering, and seated immediately. Our waiter greeted us with a friendly smile, and brought out our tea within 2 minutes of us ordering! My friend had ordered a tropical tea, which she really enjoyed. It was lightly sweetened, not the overpowering sugary nature of most fruity teas. I ordered the English Breakfast tea, which reportedly has a high caffeine content in the description. It was very flavorful, and did a great job at keeping me awake until the wee hours of the morning. As for the food, we received a three tiered selection of finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries- all of which were really quite delicious with the exception of a couple. I wasn't a huge fan of the pumpernickel salmon sandwich (too salty for my taste). I much preferred the rich coffee flavor of the coffee macaron, the refreshing cucumber tea sandwich, and the veggie wrap. A perfect way to relax after museums and lot of walking. The service is simply perfect. We had all tea and my family had champagne. If I had a drink, I would have had to take a nap under the table. We had three kinds of tea. My favorite is the apple with tiny flower petals. Perfect. We all seemed to enjoy the tea we each ordered but it was fun to taste each tea. All were unique and delicious. The tiny savory sandwiches are superb and flawless. My favorite is the tiny curried chicken. This is so surprising because I hate curry and I hate chicken. A friend and I stopped by the Two E Bar for the Afternoon Tea Service, and I was quite surprised to see negative reviews until I realized that they were mostly written by customers who had used a Groupon, and their primary complaint is the cost-value proposition. Nothing against the beauty of the Groupon, but if you're going to an Afternoon Tea Service, yes you are paying for the tea and treats, but it's called a Service for a reason. Tea and treats in my kitchen would run me under ten bucks (maybe not including the caviar), but it's the service and the experience that you pay for. My friend and I arrived at the Two E Bar about 30 minutes before the afternoon tea began, but the waiter seated us without a reservation and took our order of the Traditional Tea Service straight away so that he could serve us promptly at 3pm. We decided to order drinks while we waited, and our waiter brought us white cosmos and a tray of mixed olives, dark kettle chips, and pieces of parmiggiano. That tray of snacks perfectly curbed our appetite before the tea was served. I read that some other yelpers had purchased two separate tea services for each person, but I don't think that is at all necessary. My friend and I couldn't even finish the three trays on one tower. The savory treats on the top tray were tasty, but as a vegetarian there weren't many that I could eat. This is of course not the fault of the bar because the menu listed the sandwiches included, and my omnivorous friend quite enjoyed them. The scones were delicious, and one other reviewer had mentioned that they were hard, but that was not the case for us. The lemon curd was the perfect complement to the scones, and we actually finished the little pot on the tray. The final tier of cookies and pastries was delicious. The pastries themselves were not spectacular, but the variety was nice and we couldn't even finish them because we were so full. We ordered the lemon herbal tea, which our waiter refilled for us several times. The experience was lovely, but I have to say that the atmosphere is a little odd. It's a combination of a tea room and an upscale hotel bar, and there are no windows so the lighting is somewhat industrial. The seating was very nice, however, with cozy pillows on the couches around the room, and our waiter was awesome. I'm all for getting it out of the way, but it felt a little as if whether we had a Groupon would set the tone for the rest of our visit. As for the tea service itself: Savories: A good selection, but they didn't taste very fresh. The bread seemed stale, as if they had been sitting out all day rather than freshly prepared. Scones: Definitely our favorite course of the three. Crumbly and sweet, with good lemon curd, jam, and clotted cream. Sweets: Very heavy on sweets (like most afternoon teas), and just ok. The macarons were my favorite, although one of ours looked like it had been dropped at some point and was a bit shattered. Ambiance: The Lounge is basically underground, so it's a bit dark without natural light. It also got a bit loud as the afternoon wore on. Service: Alas, this was probably the worst part of our experience. Although our server was pleasant, it was incredibly difficult to wave him down. While both our server and the hostess checked in on us at the beginning of the meal, no one stopped to check in or refill our water glasses for most of the tea. Getting the check took a very long time, and we eventually had to ask the hostess to bring it over. Although we definitely took our time during tea, closing out was like pulling teeth. Unfortunately we didn't feel very well taken care of, which is usually a highlight of afternoon tea. I'm not sure if it was just an off day, but we left a little dissatisfied. I'm glad we used the Groupon to try it out, because I don't think our experience would have been worth the full price of the normal afternoon tea. read more

This bar just opened on June 1 and is inside the old-world sophisticato hotel, "The Pierre." I was a bit intimidated going there tonight because I knew it was a classy place but having found out about the event last minute, went in jean shorts and flip-flops. And not those fancy flip-flops either - my regular black Reef ones. Naturally, I was expecting sub-par treatment based on what I was wearing, but surprisingly, I was treated very well by all the hotel staffers as well as the staff members at the bar. The bartender and the waitress were very nice about helping me pick out a cocktail and some appetizers. I had the White Lady cocktail as an alternative to my regular gin and tonic. It was really good! The appetizers and the cocktails are out of my price range, so this place will not be a regular, but the place is quiet, fun, and yet intimate enough so that it's a good place to catch up with friends. It's also tastefully decorated, just enough to keep it interesting, but not overdone as to be distracting. read more

Probably the best value for afternoon tea in NYC. I had no problems making a reservation the day before. The finger sandwiches, desserts, and tea are all fantastic, and you can get a groupon or the traditional afternoon tea service for about $50 each. The service was also great and the entire room is beautiful -- a more modern design on a regal room. Would definitely recommend for the afternoon tea! read more

The tea set here is delicious. Their scones are crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The best part is they give you the recipe to their scones at the end of the meal, hooray! I came here when the Christmas decorations were up and loved the environment and atmosphere. It's a great place to catch up with friends. The only place they were lacking in was in the service. Our server was inattentive and didn't seem to know what he was doing. he messed up on our teas in the beginning and messed up again on our check. At the end, another server corrected everything. Got a Groupon for a Traditional Afternoon Tea Service for two, so that's obviously what I ordered upon arriving at Two E Bar. This came with a tier of sandwiches, a tier of scones and cookies, a tier of general desserts, as well as two pots of tea. We went with The Pierre and Tropical. The Pierre wasn't as interesting for me as the description made it sound (I was interested because there were peppercorns), but I did find that the tea got spicier the more it was steeped. The Tropical tea was delicious and everything I wanted from a fruity tea--usually fruity teas are too tart for me. The sandwiches came in tiny, bite-sized packages. Some of the breads seemed a little dried out, which was a bit disappointing. The most flavorful, in my opinion, were the spiced chicken tartlet and the smoked salmon on rye, making them my favorites. Moving onto the second layer, the scones were deliciously flaky and came nice and hot. They also came with lemon curd, cream, and raspberry jam. The cookies paled to the scones in comparison, but were fun to dip into the tea. Desserts were yummy in general. I didn't like the strawberry macaron, because the flavor was way too strong, but the coffee one was strong in a better way. The financier and opera cake was also a tinge too sweet for me. I really enjoyed the fruit tarts and the pavlova though. Overall it was a fun experience. I do think it's a little overpriced, even with the Groupon, but that's probably also because paid for doubled the portions. SOOO MUCH FOOD. I was extremely stuffed and had to take some of the desserts to go. Would consider going back to split one afternoon tea portion with a friend. read more
