Cafe

Beautiful light filled space providing a fine repast after Jane Austen or whatever you've seen at the Morgan. I had a coconut rice pilaf which had asparagus and peas and bits of dried coconut. Very tasty. It came with a jammy egg but the egg was cold. Regardless, the whole dish was pretty good. If you're feeling indulgent you can get a glass of wine and pity all the iced tea drinkers. Server was attentive. A nice experience.

Located inside the Morgan library museum, this cafe is a great stop before, during, or after your trip to the museum. The cafe isn't really separated from the rest of the museum and sits in a big, bright space right behind the ticketing area. Service can be a bit spotty as the space is so big, but they are very kind. The menu here has a variety of items, from pastries and salads to sandwiches and heavier meals. I got the BLT when I came and it was delicious. It was stuffed to the brim with bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce. Absolutely delicious. It also came with chips and pickles on the side! Wish they had more pastries and smaller bites, but it was delicious nonetheless.

This cafe is located in the Morgan library museum after the ticketing booth. It's in the hallway that goes to the museum so sitting here you keep seeing the museum traffic. The food is tasty and there are lots of options but it is pricey. The humus and tomato soup we ordered were both great. Hummus was freshly made and well presented. So was the coffee. The one other concern was that menu said "sweet potato hummus" but it was just regular hummus. Service was a bit slow but courteous. The place is clean, modem and quite standard in terms of decor.

"Soup of the day," herbed fries, and blackberry lemonade.

This is a lovely place to have lunch, even if you don't plan to visit the museum and library. It is located under a glass atrium, and offers table service. They offer a selection of sandwiches, salads, and small plates, but the "high tea for two" seemed to be a popular item. As I was not with a group, I opted for their "soup of the day": barley chicken with a side of herbed fries. The fries were absolutely delicious, and surprisingly not offered with the sandwiches. There is also a wine list, and a selection of teas, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages. I tried the blackberry lemonade. I needed a bit more "lemon flavor" but was still refreshing. All of the servers and staff members I encountered were wonderful, and I loved the colorful napkins included in the table setting.

Afternoon tea for two

I had afternoon tea here with friend recently and had an amazing experience. It was freezing that day so we really appreciated being able to sit and chat unbothered for hours while we struggled to finish all the food that came with our tea set. They don't accept reservations but we had no trouble getting a table immediately. The cafe is in an atrium just past the entrance of the library. The skylight and open layout make you feel invigorated and relaxed while dining. For $35 per person, we had the best tea set we've ever had. The set came with a cluster of grapes, an assortment of sandwiches, 4 scones, 3 macarons, deviled eggs, and a generous slice of chocolate tuxedo cake. Each person also gets their own pot of tea. My friend chose the rose flavored Paris tea and I had the Japanese sencha. They used tea bags from Harney and Sons. Though the tea was great, what really won me over was the food. Everything was so delicious! The sandwiches were tasty, the cake and grapes were fresh, and the scones were simply out of this world. I can't rave enough about them. Their soft, crumbly texture paired with the clotted cream and apricot jam were pure perfection. I savored every bite and would come back for the scones alot. The set looked deceivingly light but my friends and I left feeling quite stuffed. What a lovely afternoon catching up at the Morgan Cafe.

Morgan "Cafe" restaurant

Such a great place to have lunch even if you are not visiting the library. The menu is amazingly creative and the food lives up to the expectations. The service is very high-toned, not fast casual, but more sophisticated and elegant. The atrium lighting makes the whole place a bit magical. They call it a cafe but it's much more like a very nice restaurant. I highly recommend it!

Tea for 2

Nice ambiance in the Morgan Library, where we went for tea for 2. Savory and sweets on tier plates, along with a selection of Harney and Sons tea bags.

Had afternoon tea for two here yesterday (9/6/24) and wanted to get my thoughts down while they are fresh. The location is a large atrium that is not very noisy and great for conversation without a booming echo. Staff was attentive and it never got too crowded during my time here on a late Friday afternoon. Food presentation was good (see photos) with an assortment of sweet and savory treats. Side note, if you run out of clotted cream (which was very good), a refill is $2! I found the scones a bit dense but others may like that. I didn't think I would get full but I did and had a box for takeaway for the leftovers. Decent selections of teas (in bags and not loose) and they will refill the pot with hot water as many times as requested. Overall I enjoyed the experience and the price for tea for two ($54 as of Sept, 2024) was very reasonable. If you come on a Friday afternoon, try to stay until 5PM when Museum admission is free so that you can walk off all the food afterwards!

After Hours rose wine tasting

What a great little secret this place is. I work in Murray Hill, and I walk by the Morgan Library & Museum all the time. A few months ago, I decided to stop in. I was surprised to find that cafe has a really fun menu with prices that are pretty reasonable for NYC. The cafe is in an atrium space. I drank my wine, had a delicious Fuji apple pancake stack, while my friend had a yummy smashburger with onion rings. We liked it so much we came back for an evening event, After Hours, the day before Valentine's Day. We had a ball wearing red, visiting galleries, and not breaking the bank doing that. The staff is also very nice and welcoming. We had the rose wine tasting on our evening visit. What fun! We'll be back.

On Friday evening, I visited the Morgan Library and Museum. From 5 to 7 pm the entrance is free but one still has to reserve a ticket online. The interior is pretty and bright. I did see three exhibits but when I saw the cafe and a trio playing jazz i sat down to enjoy the music. A variety of wines, beers (Stella Artois and Amstel Light to name a few) and soft drinks are available. A server brings the order to the table. Edibles of muffins, sliced cake, chickpea chips and other snacks are priced reasonably. Going to the cafe to eat is free but I wonder if anyone can see an exhibit without paying? After all none of the guards asked for tickets. The airy expanse of the high ceilings and skylights make this museum particularly beautiful. Jazz is held every Friday evening and I plan to go there every week before the winter chill sets in. Next time I will have the chickpea chips!

BUT, my husband and I recently took a trip to Paris and I also love pain aux raisins. To our delight, Cafe Bilboquet has those too, so my friend and I each had a small coffee and a pain aux raisins. The pastry was as good as any that my husband and I had in Paris! I've also had lunch here with a couple of other friends in recent months. They have a good variety of pretty authentic French sandwiches and some quiches, eggs, etc. Not inexpensive, but the food is top-notch. You order at the counter, then move up to the cashier, tell them what your order is and pay for it. If you're lucky, as we were around 9:45 this morning, you'll get one of the little round tables where you can sit and chat and relax; in good weather there are some tables outside as well; a lovely boulangerie or patisserie experience!

Upon getting closer to the door, I learned it's part of Le Bilboquet restaurant on the same block. It wasn't too crowded when I visited on a Tuesday mid-afternoon. Every table except 1 was full, but most people were heading outside on such a beautiful day with their drinks and pastries. The cafe is very cute and French. They have so many pastries I couldn't decide, so I ordered a pain au chocolat and tea. They serve Harney & Sons teas. This is a lovely spot, and I'll return to try more.
