The woman behind the counter was very pleasant and more than helpful. As I waited, I grabbed some salsa and limes from the fairy well stocked condiment cart. After ten or fifteen minutes, I got my order. There were around 6 or 7 people ahead of me, so it was a reasonable wait. I took my order and went home. This is where my opinion was changed. There was a decent amount of filling in the tacos. I took a sip of the consome, and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was! No grease layer on top (like so many others I have tried), just a well seasoned and savory broth. I dressed my tacos with lime and salsa, dipped into the consome, and took a bite. What a pleasure! The meat was tender, juicy and well seasoned. Not overdone with the cheese. Just a great bite! Goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. Well done Los Mayitos!

It took me back to a simpler time when people smiled at each other, knew their neighbors, and gathered around great food and good conversation. Higley Hot Dog Hut isn't trying to be trendy or fancy--it's a genuine piece of the community, and that's exactly why I love it. The hot dogs are absolutely phenomenal, loaded with flavor and made exactly the way a great hot dog should be. Their Italian beef is among the best I've had this side of Chicago. The French fries are always hot, fresh, generously portioned, and seasoned just right. One of my favorite things is that I can still grab an old-fashioned root beer float here. Between the classic menu, friendly atmosphere, and throwback prices, it's a place where you can enjoy a great meal with family and friends without emptying your wallet. Restaurants like this are becoming harder and harder to find, which makes me especially grateful that Higley Hot Dog Hut is still here serving the community.
