We came in between a soccer tournament and was told we could not sit with our parties and that we could not "mingle" with our party that was around us and was told all of this by the Manager multiple times. 2 Penguins is as OK of a burger/generic American food place as you'll find anywhere. It's got a decent atmosphere, but the interior of the restaurant isn't aging well, and the food is not great. The booth seats are doing that collapsed/flaking/really sad thing that only happens in the worst of restaurants. I think they technically do weddings here, which I don't see how you could with the conditions of the seats. I did a work lunch here sight unseen, and I was honestly embarrassed at the condition of the place. It's a really bad first impression. Other than that, the food itself is subpar. The burgers are pretty tasteless and generic in a pretty decent burger city such as Denver. The fries are good, but I remember the service being somewhat awkward. This isn't a good place, which is sad because it photographs well, has so much potential to be cool, and it has a cute name that gives you high hopes. First I LOVED THE CHILIE . Never have I tasted chili like that before. I dipped my fries in it which was a great touch. My 10 month old loved the fish and chips , the crunch on batter was perfect. Not to much but just enough for even she to enjoy. The pulled pork burrito was ok but didn't like it to well. I believe others would like it though, I'm used to Mexican burritos so it just wasn't my boat. The Buffalo chicken wrap had way to much going on inside . This semi-hidden spot was a great choice for dinner last night! We noticed the food was perfectly spiced - definitely a little hot for someone who can't tolerate spice, but for us it was great! The chef really used well-matched flavors in everything we ate. Really liked the queso and my spicy turkey panini. This is a pretentious place with ok food and great servers, I have been here multiple times and observed the owners lording over the the crew waiting, hoping for a mistake to scrutinize. It is uncomfortable as a patron. Today, with social distancing It is not as apparent but still in place. Culture. As a business owner one should ask "how do my customers want to do business with me?" The inverse is true here. "How do we want our customers to do business with us." The sliders are a perfect example, want a mix? NO! This place is just so cool, a hidden little gem. The restaurant could really be a venue. It was our first time in, and I'm pregnant so I can't speak for drinks, but my husband kept having the waitress surprise him with beer flights so we have no idea what beers he got. Fri-yay! Went to 2 Penguins for Friday happy hour as it is right across from my work! I've heard many good things about this place and wanted to give it a shot. I really liked the atmosphere. Inside, 2 Penguins is very large, it even has room separators to make a bigger or smaller room (to rent out). I sat in the first room closest to the bar, it had many different seating options from high tables to long booths to accommodate any group of people. The bar is decorated with old tap handles and Colorado decor, there's even an indoor pergola. The beer list is LONG. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose but it's nice to know there's so many different options from sour beer to blonde ales to coffee stouts. I had a Dry Dock Apricot that was amazing! The food - delicious!! We shared chips and salsa with queso at first which was very good especially for the price. For dinner, I had a Margherita pizza and others had nachos and green chile. All of our food tasted great which is sometimes unexpected at a bar. The prices are right, Bob! I think 2 Penguins has the best happy hour prices around Arapahoe. My bill for 2 beers, chips and queso and a tequila shot was $14. For dinner, our bill was $19 - the green chile, nachos and pizza! The staff was attentive and listened to our needs even when the place got jam packed at 5:30. I never had an empty glass or felt like I needed to get our servers attention. This was a complete surprise. I didn't think I would like the food as much as I did. I got a burger and it was really good and my husbands fish and chips were absolutely delicious. Our server was really friendly and quick. They have a beautiful patio as well, surrounded by trees. My only real knock against it: I'm gluten free and I wish they had a gf beer or cider on the menu. A: when they said spicy they actually did mean spicy but it was so amazing. The turkey was not overly piled which to be honest it good. The chips were also delicious and generally I'm not a chip person. My husband chose to order the Fried Chicken Sandwich which after tasting it was very tender and moist. His sandwich came with seasoned french fries (way to have seasoned - perceived value there). The space inside is large, clean, and kind of industrial. By this time I may add more people had arrived and were both eating and drinking. We ate our food about as fast as we could (unintentionally) and went back outside to finish a second beer and enjoy the sunshine. Overall, we had a great experience at 2 Penguins. Love love love this place! A bit off the beaten path, but totally worth it. Get here for happy hour! We had the nachos and pizza, which did not disappoint. HH pizza is only $5! Our waitress was super friendly, personable and gave excellent beer recommendations. A bit bummed we had to leave to catch a movie as they had a huge room with a couch and chairs by a cozy fireplace you could literally sit by for hours drinking their tasty beers. I think there may have also been a foosball table and pool table but i was too focused on the fireplace to pay attention. We hosted our annual nonprofit event in this casual, spacious restaurant. Steve and Dan definitely know their catering business; this is the first event where we did not have a line for (a delicious) dinner or the bar. There are always unexpected twists when hosting an event of this size, but every curve was met with grace and clarity that helped us focus on giving our guests a good time. We had rave reviews about the food, the vibe, and the staff. We had access to the whole building which gave people options for quieter places to visit one on one or joining the crowd in the ballroom. Bonus: One of the staff knew a little sign language to communicate better with our guests, and one of the waitresses created a custom sign on their chalkboard. This place is really a hidden gem you likely miss when in a car due east on Arapahoe Road between Lima and Potomac. I'd only heard of this place and decided to come find it on a snowy Denver night. Entrance is off Briarwood so definitely google it. The place is huge and has a great big bar area with a nice sized dining area and an event area. I took a bar seat and the bartenders were really engaging. Not shy or not oblivious. The patrons were even great and struck up a conversation with me sharing that it was their favorite place and the food was even better than their many beer selections. I sampled the Green Chili and it was very good and not typical. I couldn't make up my mind. Their specialty is the Fried Chicken, although it was too big of a meal for me too late in the evening. I stuck with a BLT and their own homemade chips. The portion was great and honestly, the bacon was falling out of the sandwich (these guys don't scrimp). The homemade chips are the best! Waffle style but very thin and crispy. I really hope to get back soon. I want some fried chicken! read more

We stopped in Denver after a long drive from Texas en route to Estes Park. We were so happy we found this place on yelp after searching for "dog friendly restaurants". They have a nice patio where our pup was greeted with a bowl of water. Wait staff were nice and friendly. Our server, Alyssa, was very courteous and gave us excellent service. The patio is really nice. It's big and not cramped. There were many families with young kids playing around. It felt like a perfect friendly town that I would love to move to! We ordered hummus which came with delicious pita bread and a ton of veggies. I ordered power salad with grilled chicken and it was delicious! My husband ordered fish and chips (I was thinking, um in the mountains?) and said it was great. Everything we ordered were in good portions. Hope we can return again! read more

AUG 2017 Update It's been some time since my last visit and I was craving for the pepperoni pizza. It did not go well. Right off, it was freezing in the restaurant. Hot day-yes. But totally uncomfortable for dining. I sat at the bar and ordered the pizza. When it arrived, I had to ask for a setup. When the setup arrived and I unrolled the napkin, the silverware was disgusting. That alone churned my stomach. I tried the pizza, but it was a gooey mess, the center crust basically runny; nothing like I've had here before. I rate this visit Not Acceptable. I was vaguely aware of Two Penguins and just had an opportunity to visit at happy hour last night. It's nicely tucked away on Briarwood just south of Arapahoe Road. The minute I walked in I loved the ambiance- a more modern, open and refreshing ambiance (it still has that "new restaurant smell"). The patio is sure to be a winner, and I learned there is even more to the place behind the sliding wall on the north side. One thing I REALLY liked is the low-key approach to TV screens. The last thing we need in the 'hood is another sports bar, and this is not formatted to be that. This is a place where you can enjoy some native brew and good conversation with those around you -basically what a Tap and Grille should be. I was immediately greeted and the staff was friendly and informative regarding all the craft beer and food options (most other reviewers have covered this). I ordered the burger with a side of chili and both were superb. Arapahoe Road has been long overdue for a new place (well, unless you like 2-story mega complexes) and Two Penguins is a hugely welcome addition.
