Every single inch of space is utilized here. If you don't want to feel overwhelmed with crowds then I highly recommend not coming here on a weekday night. The reception area before dining is super packed and could be a huge fire hazard for that particular door with the way people stood in front of it. They have a friendly, but modest hostess stand in the same area. Once seated, you're again, pulled through a maze of people to your table where you're stacked on top of your neighbors. There is an imposing bar in the middle of the condensed restaurant that you have to walk around to get to your table, the exit of the door you entered in or to the bathroom. Our food was a-okay. This place is completely different than any ramen I have ever had and I'm not fully sure I mean that in a good way. For example, I realize my noodles were supposed to be a little firm, but they didn't taste fully cooked all the way through. My friend confirmed my thought. I did mention this to my server and she offered to bring me a new bowl. I declined since we had already waited a reasonable amount of time for our food and it was super packed for a sold out Friday night. I did like the light broth, but they are stingy with the $15 you pay for pork ramen. I ordered an additional side of pork belly on a skewer for $5. That was a hit for me, but for my mouth (yum) and for my wallet. Service was a bit weird at first. She seemed very disappointed when we were only ordering ramen bowls and saki. Being a huge fan of ramen myself, I had heard about Two Ten Jack for about a year before finally able to make there to enjoy some of the tasty ramen. My girlfriend, two friends, and myself went on a Friday night (reservations are pretty much required, no matter when you plan on going). THE ATMOSPHERE: The space within Two Ten Jack is very cozy and mixes classic Japanese style with a modern twist. The lighting is very dim but not too dim where it's actually difficult to see or read anything. We were sat at a long wooden bench and shared the other end with another couple. They do have booths available if you'd like to have a space just to yourselves and your party. THE FOOD: Like I said at the beginning, I'm a huge ramen fan and love diving into a piping hot bowl of noodles. I had heard so much about their ramen and couldn't wait to try it. We ordered the Takoyaki as an app (hush puppy / octopus / miso butter) and that was quite delicious, especially with the dipping sauce. On to the main attraction, we ordered both the Pork Broth Ramen (Tonkotsu) and the Chicken Broth Ramen (tori paitan shoyu). I will say, the ramen we had was very good, and arguably one of the best in Nashville, but I was not blown away with how good it was. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it and like I said, it was very good, but compared to the places I've had elsewhere like Chicago, it was not up to par to those. SUMMARY: Overall, Two Ten Jack is a great date spot or a place to grab a really great bowl of ramen. But, I'm honestly not entirely sure why we needed to make a reservation two weeks in advance and why they are consistently jam-packed. The food we had was delicious but in my opinion it did not live up 100% to the hype that people make it out to be. I think I have a ramen addiction - is that okay? UM, YES. Not going to lie though, it took me a minute to figure out where this place was with my Uber driver because there is no HEY I'M HERE sign. There is a little red lantern light outside but when you know nothing, it's not as clear. We didn't have to wait long since it was later at night. Service was great, the waiter was so so nice and was great at suggestions. We ordered the brussels sprouts as an appetizer, which were delicious! It was expensive for such a tiny bowl of brussels, but it did taste amazing so at least it had that going for it. My friend had never had ramen before so this experience was a first for her. I get that ramen is best enjoyed fresh but if I'm feigning off a cold or want to eat well but can't sit down b/c of time constraints, Two Ten always loses to other spots that cater to normal 2019 dining habits. It's no secret that Asian cuisine in Nashville is extremely lacking. Two Ten Jack helps fill in that hole, even though ramen has been appropriated enough by white people where I'm not sure it counts as really bonafide Asian food. TTJ is certainly a Caucasian-friendly type of Asian restaurant, with chic lighting, wood furniture, and hip hop music. But don't worry, there's Japanese decor loosely spread through the restaurant (a Godzilla vs. Mecha King Geedorah film was playing by our table). As for the food, it also manages to play both sides of Asian and American cultures. We got two appetizers: the Japanese Fried Chicken and the Takoyaki. Not quite traditionally Japanese, these dishes have a southern American twist to them - the takoyaki is made of hush puppies, for example. It's pretty solid, but the real star of the dish is the miso butter. A perfect combination of rich and salty. The jfc is pretty good too, but better with the butter. We got the Tonkatsu ramen, supposedly the signature dish. Upon first taste, not too impressive. The broth is not very flavorful and the noodles are a bit thin for my liking. Mix in the spicy miso paste, however ($1 extra), and it picks up. The pork belly could have been better. We waited just under an hour for a table of 3 on a Friday, so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Overall, the ramen was not too impressive. This place... I guess I could start that it was an underwhelming experience. Let's get started with what I ordered. I decided well, since we're in an izakaya I should at least try one of their Yakitori along with their ramen. We had a craving for Ramen, and since this place had great reviews I wanted to try it out. Maybe this place was really a gem? Or it was probably a hyped up place. We ordered the pork belly... and, what came out was one piece of meat which cost $5. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? At least give me a couple of pieces.... Nope, instead it's just one slab of meat. Let's get to the ramen. Tonkatsu ramen that's $14, and what we get is just a way too creamy broth, not enough broth, and on top of that the contents inside the ramen is limited to basically nothing. I felt that they really know how to make money, knowing that people don't know what true ramen is supposed to be and then if it looks like it, it's good enough to pass. The noodles were also undercooked which just added to the disappointment. I've had better. I'm sure there's better options in Nashville. The crab noodles were so flavorful. I really enjoyed eating them, but they were almost too rich to eat without having some ginger or veggies. However, I'd rather have too much flavor than too little. Two Ten Jack is a staple in East Nashville. I love this Japanese inspired pub. The staff is friendly, there's plenty of parking, the ambiance is desirable, the cocktails are strong and the food is delicious!! There are a few dishes that "seem" vegetarian and they actually aren't. So if you're a vegetarian, I would definitely ask which dishes those are. In the number of times I've dined there, I would say that general consensus of what to order is: 1. Crispy Brussels 2. Potato Fries 3. Wagyu Shortrib (Everyone is obsessed with this one) 4. All the Yakitori (Especially the garlic IMO) 5. Ramen (Spicy Crab Noodles & Yasai Shoyu) The restaurant is open for dining (inside and patio seating) and take out Monday-Saturday from 5:00 PM-9:00 PM. This place was well worth the hype and wait. The food was absolutely fantastic as was the casual but dim ambiance and the drinks. In order to actually eat here, definitely make reservations well in advance. Once you get here, order as much off the menu as you can possibly afford. We started with Takoyaki which were these amazing Asian hush puppies served with garlic crab butter. Then we got the JFC which were fried and served with a creamy sauce. These were good but a little too salty and oily for me. We then moved into the rolls and got the happy belly and the crab butter roll. Both were absolutely amazing with distinct flavors. We started with the No. 2 and Sake Piña colada for drinks. The Sake Piña colada was delicious, very alcohol forward but in a good way to me. The No. 2 was a nice herbaceous and aromatic take on a margarita. If you like cilantro you will love this drink. For food we got the Brussels sprouts, rock shrimp, and garlic noodles. The food was amazing. The brussel sprouts were crispy and so flavorful. The garlic noodles were cooked perfectly and a good combination of creamy and peppery. And the rock shrimp has great flavor, would have liked if it was slightly more crunchy but the breading is rather soft. Overall the food and drink (especially the food) was fantastic. Our only issue was the amount of flies in the restaurant. You would have thought the food was s*** the way the flies were swarming every table, even though it was delicious. The vibe, ambiance, and service were all solid and this would have been a 5 star review if there weren't any flies. We definitely would have stayed for another drink if our arms weren't tired from swatting the air the whole time. I was visiting from Maryland and was craving ramen and this was the highest reviewed place so my friends and I went here. NEVER AGAIN. We ordered two small plates, the shiitake gyoza and tebasaki. Both we sooo average and way over priced for how much you get. All three of us ordered different ramen and each one was worse than the next. We all shared and none of us wanted to finish our food (considering that was our first meal of the day at 6 pm!!) The place has nice seating and the waiters seemed friendly but our waiter constantly forgot about us. We had to remind them 3 times to bring the check. And when they finally did we waited 15 mins before my friend got up to give it to someone else. The food was overpriced especially for the value. I've had WAYYYY better for less. Not only that, our waiter not once came to check on us to make sure we didn't need anything. We had finished our waters before the food had come. We were the only table that didn't get a water pitcher but we hadn't noticed that until we were leaving. Been here now twice, and both times have not disappointed. Their sushi and small plates are amazing! And their #1 and #2 cocktails are really well mixed. The flavors are unique but blend together smoothly. The service is super attentive and quick to help. I was impressed with how quickly the food came to us. The vibe their is cool. An izakaya is a Japanese gastropub. I had been to another in Austin (that sadly closed), and I was excited to try Two Ten Jack. We arrived a little after 8 on a Saturday night, and there was a 30+ minute wait for a table, but they had two bar stools open at the bar. So we sat at the bar, of course! Sometimes I even prefer sitting at the bar in some restaurants! Two Ten Jack had a great drinks menu: beers on tap, wine, sake, cocktails on tap. There was something in every category that I would have loved to try! My fiance and I ended up trying a couple of their beers on tap. There was also something in every category of the food menu that I wanted to try! We decided to avoid sushi for the night (for budgetary reasons), and I was too hot to really enjoy ramen (when will it be fall? GO AWAY, SUMMER), but we tried something from the other categories of the menu. We started with takoyaki - octopus hush puppies with miso butter. The hush puppies were beautifully fried and exceptionally tasty, but they didn't need the miso butter (the miso was overpowering to the seafood, and it was hard to apply to the hush puppies because of the thickness of the butter and the heat of the hush puppies). They were served on a piece of newspaper in Japanese, which was cool! We also got the garlic noodles (crab butter, black pepper, and kokuto), which were delicious. Very garlicy. Don't order it on a first date! We also got some yakitori. My fiance ordered the pork belly with mustard ponzu. I ordered the corn and avocado yakitori, because I had never had that type of vegetable cooked yakitori style before! The corn had miso butter and insanely thinly sliced horseradish on top. It looked like Mexican corn, but rather than mayo and cheese, it was miso butter and horseradish! Kind of wild. The avocado was a half of an avocado served in the skin (with a cute little spoon to scoop it out) with mustard ponzu and wasabi. Simple and delicious. We liked everything we ordered - next time we go, we'd try all new items! Can't wait to try the ramen and sushi! The decor and atmosphere is pretty amazing. You walk in and everything is wood and lamps and darkly lit and moody and...well, I'm giving a hack description. But it's definitely an amazing place. We'll be back! Our nigiri was also incredible. I ordered the pork belly broth ramen and it was some of the best ramen I've ever had - and I know good ramen. I tried it, & thought it was good but not the best I've ever had. -Food presentation: 5/5 here. Nicely put together. -Plenty of vegetarian options. I believe some gluten free options as well. -My leftover ramen re-heated well. -To-go container for ramen was very secure (no broth got out) & made of eco-friendly material, which is important to me (see pic)! *Ambiance: Indoors is dim lighting with booths throughout. There is about 3-4 tables outside (maybe they usually have more, but there's a big tent outside for takeout orders). The bar takes up a good bit of the restaurant, & appears to seat probably 15 or so. Not too loud. *Service: The waitress wasn't overly nice. Wasn't rude, but definitely could have been better. She did tell me their top sellers when I asked for suggestions in both ramen & sushi. *Prices: My ramen was $14, sushi $15 & the hot paste $1. I did not order alcohol but it appeared most glasses of wine were about $9. *Dress: All customers were casual to business casual. This is not a super fancy place. **COVID: As mentioned above, they have a big tent outside with their covid orders. It's so small inside, this helps keep the congestion down. They appear to have a lot of to-go orders. As you arrive you have to have a mask on & they take your temp from your wrist before being seated. **They also require you wear your mask anytime the server is at your table (while ordering, every time they fill drinks, etc). Made a reservation with some friends to check this place out but was sadly not impressed. I mean people RAVE about this spot. It just did not hit the mark with my group. The waiter was not attentive and barely came by to check on us. The food was alright, the best thing is their ramen but I would skip any starters. My friend ordered the dumplings, fried chicken, and brussels. The fried chicken was disgusting and had no seasoning, flavor, or sauce. It was so chewy and tasted like fried jelly, 0/10. The dumplings were also nothing special and did not come with any sauce for dipping (we could not get the waiter to bring us any). My other friend ordered the crispy rice with tuna and a sushi roll. They kept forgetting about the sushi roll and we were well through our food when it finally came. The crispy rice was heavy and did not have a lot of flavor either. The tuna was not fresh and did not taste like a typical tuna, 2/10. Thoroughly disappointed in this spot as we were all so excited to try. I will say the chicken meatball in the ramen was great & the broth had amazing flavor, 6/10 (hence the 2 star review). In terms of the atmosphere and seating, the inside is quite small so they have patio seating with heaters in the winter. It's freezing on the patio even with heaters and the seating inside does not make sense for the space. When you make a reservation you have to put a deposit ($25 PER PERSON) which to me is just insane given its not in the city nor that good.
