Passed by this place when picking up some other food in the same plaza. Noticing that the signage and food type is the same as Tao Rice roll in Bellaire Chinatown, I automatically assumed it was their new chain. Since I've had Tao rice roll plenty of times, I decided to try some items that I haven't seen at the other location. We ordered the soup dumplings (小籠包) and minced pork rice (魯肉飯). The lady at the counter is the exact same lady as the one in Bellaire Chinatown. I asked her if they had relocated, and she told me that this Sugarland one is their second location. I enjoyed the soup dumplings. The filling was flavorful and the dumplings were full of juicy goodness, yum! However, the minced pork rice wasn't spectacular. I liked that there was bean curd mixed into the minced pork, but that's actually a hallmark of zha Jiang noodles. Have never seen it with minced pork rice, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I also liked the rice came with a fried egg and some pickled mustard greens (酸菜）. However, the minced pork itself was just average, and also the rice was rather mushy with all the sauce drizzled over. Also, they added some you tiao into the rice, which is a great idea...except for takeout. The you tiao was completely soggy by the time we got home, and just rather unpleasant to eat. They should've packed the you tiao separately for takeout orders. After we ate our meal, my husband was lamenting that we didn't get their rice rolls because the lou Rou fan was just so unsatisfying. Thanks to Lily S and Victoria M for the heads up on a NEW restaurant in Sugar Land serving authentic Taiwanese comfort food/breakfast. Most of the menu is in Chinese with a little English translation, so I'll share what we ordered. We loved the B4-brine meat (lou rou fan---minced pork with egg) and B6-fried sticky rice. We also ordered the eel rice roll and sesame pancake with fried "oil stick" (Youtiao) and egg. We also tried the sweet soy bean milk. This restaurant is similar to the Tao Rice Roll in Chinatown Bellaire. Their specialty is 6 different types of rice rolls (fan tuan) with different fillings (traditional, sweet, vegetarian, black pickled, Taiwan, and eel). Their recommended dishes are fried bread sticks/donuts(youtiao), sweet dumplings, beef soup, xiao long bao, meat/seafood congee (porridge); and they also offer 8 different Bowls: B1-small noodles B2-meat wonton soup B3-bowl sticky rice **B4-brine meat rice (lou rou fan) B5-fried rice noodles **B6-fried sticky rice **B7-pork ribs noodle soup B8-pork foot rice It was only my first time so I'm not sure about every menu item. Super cute and pretty clean local spot for Taiwanese breakfast fare. I read other reviews that compare it to another similar spot in Chinatown, but I've been there before and I think the food here is better. Everything I ordered and ate here was scrumptious, and no, this is not fast food- it is made to order. Give them some time to pull your things together. Everything is highly customizable and you can let them know if you want certain toppings thrown in or not. This seems to be a family owned business and we will be back to support local! 10/10 recommend the savory soybean milk- this isn't a menu item you can find just anywhere... definitely give it a try if you get the chance!! read more

It's the old Mango Hut location! Yummy Taiwanese style food! I loved everything I ordered! I am not Chinese but I won't hold back regarding an opinion about food. I ordered the B4 dish (brine meat rice). It's actually marinated minced pork, with some slightly pickled greens, fried egg, and rice at the bottom, mix it all up or eat straight below, it's awesome! Unanimous favorite at our table after having other dishes as well. My hubby order B6 (fried sticky rice). It was good, it was ok, but after he had my rice dish, ended up buying another B4 to go for dinner later. B7 (Ribs noodle soup) was so delish!!! This too was a star in my book. It tasted like a clean beef soup w flat noodles cooked just right, and one huge rib with meat falling off the bone tender. Of course I love dojang yuchau (Taiwanese style breakfast per my Chinese hubby- fav's of soy bean milk: served warm just ever so slightly sugared and ordered fried dough order is named: fried stick) See my pics! Went here in the morning around 11am on a tuesday and glad we got there slightly early because by 11:30/11:45am it was very busy. Portion sizes are good - more so snack size but the price reflects that. One dish not pictured that was my favorite was the rib noodle soup. They gave two, tender, meaty ribs with a decent amount of noodles and broth. Brine rice bowl was also very good and tasty! Biggest complaint is it took so long for them to crank out our order and we were at the front of the rush so I can't imagine how long it took for rest of the customers. They also don't have real bowls/utensils - everything is single use. Not a negative but just a comment. Overall happy that this is here in SL! read more

They have a good assortment of rice rolls, we usually go for either the Tao, Traditional, Taiwan, or Pickled rolls. The double egg pancake is also unbeatable and SO tasty, especially fresh. They also have a really good fried donut (I'm usually not a fan of them, but the one here is chewy without being too oily and keeps decently well - doesn't get too hard if you don't eat immediately). Prices are super reasonable and they have pretty fast turnaround time, although I'd definitely order ahead if you're getting to-go. They do have a few tables at the shop that are perfect for dine-in if that's your fancy. read more

We still love TX rice roll. Their double egg / vegetarian pancake is delish as well. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes the rolls are a good size, but one guy who makes them makes them pretty small, super stingy. Even my 2 year old can finish it herself, and she's not a huge eater. The amount of Loh bah I saw him put in one roll was laughable. He works a lot of the weekdays unfortunately. On weekends, I just hope I get the other workers and that he doesn't make mine... they can take a bit to get your order ready depending on staffing and customers. I went to this restaurant because a few out-of-town friends wanted to go there. I myself did not have much expectation. Then I was surprised by the food quality, with their sesame pancakes (燒餅油條) uniquely prepared and very tasty. The servers were all very polite. And we enjoyed wall decorations of the restaurant . Apparently I was not the only one who was impressed, as the restaurant had many other customers on a Monday morning when the restaurant traffic is normally light. I cannot how busy this place can be on a Saturday (they don't open on Sunday). I think I will go back there soon. read more

This one is similar to the one in Chinatown but with more options (I think). We ordered Brine Meat Rice, Double Egg Pancake, and Xiao Long Bao. All delicious! I will go back for their Brine Meat Rice! So good! They are newly opened so the wait time may be longer than you expected. But it's fine for me. Who doesn't wait for good food? Good things take time. At least I could see they were trying their best. Highly recommended. It's a very good option for breakfast and lunch. So happy that we have one in Sugar Land. We have a Tao Rice Roll up in Plano. We stopped by the sugar land location while in town visiting my brother. We took some friends who never had Taiwanese style breakfast before. There is a poster with all the ingredients in each special rice roll. I would call these rice rolls Texas sized lol. We got the Taiwan roll, eel roll, and sausage roll. Bring your appetite. I love their salty soy milk and it tastes the same as the one in Plano. Staff is kind here and also spoke English to help us order. Everything is made to order so expect a wait. You definitely need to go in early bc I had to wait for my food to go for 40 mins. My favorite is B4 Brine Meat Rice (mince pork, tofu, dark sauce that is drain to the soft white rice) & a fried egg $7 4/5 stars. B7 Ribs Noodle Soup. You get 1 big ribbed that has a lot of meat in it 3.5/5 stars $9.50. The pork meat on the rib is soft. It come right offs. Last I order Xioa Long Bao (Soup dumpling) $6.50 4/5 stars Thin wrapping, that takes a while to cook supposedly. I wanted to order over the phone for ToGo. I'm guess they are still new and may not handle the volume. The was not over the phone order when I was there. This place is very small. It's more like a take out cafe. As a huge fan of the Chinatown Bellaire location, this one mostly met the same expectation. The flavors and perfect texture of the rice matched up, but for some reason... one out of the four rice rolls we ordered was completely cold on the inside (the eel and egg). The menu is more limited here. While there are some new additions such as the Black Pickled Roll and Xiao Long Bao (soup dumpling), the rice rolls for example are missing half of their Bellaire options (only up to six at time of review). Some miscellaneous items: they charge a minimum of $15 for credit cards, they appear to close even earlier (2:00pm per Yelp), seating is roughly as limited as the Bellaire location (4-5 parties/tables?), the toilet does not flush, and parking was plentiful. read more

The experience there was really unpleasant. I ordered 2 rice rolls. The staff told me to wait for up to 10 minutes but it ended up taking 40 minutes and not even started. They have a lot of wasted manpower doing nothing in the kitchen area, not helping to reduce the customer wait time. Meanwhile, most of their staffs are not wearing gloves to prepare food. What's worse is that they touched everywhere like at the counter and taking cash. The DIDNT wash their hands before returning to prepare food. While I was waiting for my rice rolls, I heard one of their crew members asking the others not to prepare food that fast in Chinese. I believe this is why people is wasting 30 to 60 minutes waiting and it was caused by this store intentionally. read more

I went to Tx Rice Roll for breakfast after yoga. I was curious since I've read some reviews about this place. I ordered the eel roll with a cup of hot soy milk to go ($10.01 total). The cashier/owner was a nice lady. There were about 8 other customers sitting around and waiting for their food. I waited for about 5 minutes to get my order. I took it home to enjoy the breakfast. The eel roll had a piece of grilled eel, pork floss, crunchy bits of tofu skin (I'm assuming) and slices of boiled egg inside the rice. It was warm when I got the order and still warm at home. The roll is filling, I probably don't have to eat lunch after eating this. It is delicious and the rice is just the right amount, not overbearing. The soy milk is the typical soy milk. It tasted fresh and goes well with the roll. I will be going back. read more

They used to be good when they first opened. Today We ordered 2 Tao pancakes (Jian bing) but not much ingredients inside, the stuffing is very minimal, no sausage, no pickle and very dry pancake. They had increased the price due to inflation , but they should maintain the quality of food and the soy milk taste like water, very bland. The quality of food totally went real down. The tw roll was authentic, siu long boa, and the wonton soup was below avg (cold). I might go back if I have more time. Oh, if you dine-in but with limited seating, since everyone is waiting. lol. The avg. wait time of dining-in is half the time in receiving your order. Hmmm, I wonder. The people are nice and friendly. I noticed one customer came back after they mess up their order and was quickly resolved (nice). The reason for the 2 star was due to avg wait time, cost, and the quality of food. Very similar to tao rice roll in Chinatown. I tried the Eel roll and soy milk here and it was great. Highly recommend the food here. However, we came on a Saturday morning when it was pretty busy. It was almost an hour wait. Didn't mind the wait as much as them prioritizing orders to those that asked about their orders and crowding around the front area. I hope they change their system where they make orders in order instead of just trying to get people out that are asking for their orders.
