There are only two things in life that make me cry: Death and Home Remodeling. So, when I decided to do something about cooling my house due to our increasingly frequent HOT spells, I approached it with my usual combination of dread and anxiety. I have an 800 sq. ft house that is 75 years old with a fairly new furnace. I got estimates from six contractors and learned more than I ever wanted to know about mini-splits/heat pumps vs. adding central AC to my existing system. Peter Tyndall was terrific in explaining and comparing the two approaches, as well as providing a reasonable solution to adding a 30 volt, 220 line to an already full service box. I am a contractor, and I have been one for many many years, and I am versed in a lot of different areas except heating and air conditioning, so whenever I have an air conditioning problem I'm always hesitant and reluctant and leery at the costs because it will never make sense to me for some reason. So my air conditioning stopped working couple days ago, and I was referred to this company specifically Jason, Jason came out today told me it was just a condenser...$250 bucks! I was thinking it was a Freon issue, and was expecting to pay much more. But Jason in his expertise was able to identify the problem right away and fix it and test it, he had the parts with him and within 15 minutes he was done. I gave a four star rating. Service was good but a little slow. Maybe due to the holiday season. I had a 20 year old roof top system that had been repaired on three previous occasions. We got three different quotes total. Peter's quote was straight to the point. Our other quotes were a long presentation and fancied up. And charged twice as much for an replacement unit. read more

Our heater was not working and Pete came out to look at it and figured the problem fairly quickly. Unfortunately he didn't have the part in his truck. He told me that he would have to run back to Concord and then come back this way, but it would get done the same day. He came back around 6 in the evening as promised and got the furnace to work. Pete from Tyndall was very professional and honest with me. He told me that he wouldn't be able to get to me on the day I called but the next day he would. He was true to his word, called me in the morning and showed exactly when he said he would. He fixed our A/C unit(thank god!) because it was super hot. DON'T USE THEM! If I could give them zero stars I would. I called to have them repair an AC unit. A week later it stopped working for the exact same reason. It had developed ice around the unit again despite the coolant recharge. When I called to ask him why it was building up ice again despite having been fixed just a week before he flew off the handle and screamed at me defensively. He was nice when I originally called but was rude and disrespectful as soon as I asked why I was experiencing the exact same problem. Makes you wonder why he was so defensive. Shoddy work. For customer service on the phone he's super nice, but he really doesn't remember anything about a schedule! I called him for a diagnostic on my ac unit, and he told me to call him back around 7pm since he didn't have his schedule handy he was out on a job. Fine no problem! So I called at 7:15 just in case. Well he was driving which that happens, but from the time of my original call at 4pm and then he had already forgotten the problem we were having. So ok fine... well he says he can come by the next day (today) between 3-5pm and he gives me his cell phone number to text him our address. Ok great so cut to today, by 4:45pm we still haven't heard from him. So I call the work line and his cell phone.... multiple times! No answer, no call backs, no word of anything! It's now 6:45 and I still have no idea where he is or what's going on! Still no call back! I'm seeing a trend looking back on other reviews. read more

Peter, the owner, installed a 5 ton furnace and AC unit for the lower level of my house 2 years ago, and he just installed a wole new system for the upstairs in the attic. One thing I will emphasize: He knows what he's doing and he is very reasonable compared to others. Yes, you have to be patient before you catch him, but he will answer. We reached out to Peter after speaking with two other HVAC companies that were recommended to us. We decided to go with Tyndall for a few reasons: We had confidence in their work because he came recommended to us by a friend, but his quote was also actually in line with what our general contractor thought that the job should cost (we were moving a furnace as part of a kitchen remodel and then decided to replace the entire system and ductwork and we were getting quotes that were significantly more). Peter's quote was very detailed and he gave us a few options in terms of equipment. We decided to go with the "better" option. We wanted to move the furnace and weren't sure where it and the ductwork could actually go and Peter made a couple visits and spent a lot of time trying to figure out a solution for us. He and his crew replaced our entire HVAC system and ducting and also moved the furnace and replaced our hot water heater with a tankless. We had a bit of an issue initially moving forward due to scheduling asbestos abatement because of an incorrect phone number, but besides that, the project went smoothly. His crew was polite and respectful and did a good job cleaning up afterwards. We have been happy with the much improved heating of our home since the work was done at the end of January. We just had our final inspection with the city today and passed. read more

Updating my review as we have had Tyndall service our AC for a few years after installation and the service has been horrible. The office manager and Pete can't get their schedules in sync. Missed appointments, promises of call backs that never happened and all around frustration, I stopped contacting this company and went with another. It's a shame I cannot give "Pete" five stars as the other reviewers have, the reason being: PETE NEVER SHOWED UP OR EVEN BOTHERED TO CALL - and not once, but TWICE. I consider myself to be a fairly flexible person when it comes to meeting others' schedules, so the fact that I never even received a phone call to change the time/date or given an explanation as to why he was not showing has beyond pissed me off. Our heater stopped working and Tyndall was over in under two hours. James Bowers [the Tech] discovered the heater needed a fan motor. We were given a reasonable quote, however the required motor was 1/4 HP larger than initially quoted. Tyndall honored their original quote and did not change us more for the larger motor. Jason at Tyndall HVAC is amazing. With the current heat wave and temps over 100 degrees in Brentwood, having your air conditioning go out is awful. And with my elderly mom, it can be downright dangerous. Within an hour of calling, Jason showed up and diagnosed the problem. He had the part and installed it immediately. My mom now has cool air! I was very happy with Tyndall. I called my warranty company in the morning and Tyndall called me within a couple of hours and were at my house 30 minutes later. They were very professional and fixed my heater in no time. I'd had another heating company sent to fix a heater on a rental and they took two weeks before they even looked at it and another week to fix it. Called Tyndall on a Sunday spoke with his name was Peter about coming out to our home to inspect our air conditioner the air conditioner was not putting out enough cold air in our back bedroom. Peter was to call me back the next day to set up a appointment. After waiting there was no return call.I called again the next day in the evening spoke with someone else got a appointment for the following Saturday. Two men from Tyndall did come out to our home inspected the problem charged $100.00 just for coming out to inspect. After they were to give us a bid on much it would cost to do the repairs we were going to put that $100.00 towards that, No one called us back with a bid I called spoke with Eric about the Bid he was working on it would give me a call back that evening no call. I e-mailed regarding the cost on the repairs no response. This is all unfortunate and NOT any way to treat a prospective customer or in any way to run a business. read more

These guys are good!!!! My A/C broke last night and I sent a request for a quote this morning for replacing my compressor thinking its got to be the worst. They gave me a fair price quote to replace the compressor and a few other very fair prices to replace the whole unit if that's what I ended up wanting to do. Tyndall Heating and Air did an excellent job on my property in Alamo - they were knowledgeable about all the possible energy rebates I could qualify. Pete, my main contact, took the time to completely understand the my requirements, whereas other vendors just proposed a "cookie-cutter" solution. The work was done in a very professional manner, they were very thorough, they cleaned up after themselves after each day and they did a great job insulting the house too. Tyndall reported a full HVAC replacement was needed, costing thousands. Had two other vendors re-check. Both alternate vendors reported that coolant recharge was needed. Charged the coolant and system has been working without issue for over a month. Tyndall then billed me $75 for a at best incorrect check/diagnosis, a price that is not all that far off from a full maintenance servicing. When asked for basic information like HVAC system model and serial number Tyndall became defensive, highly unprofessional, and reactive, indicating to me that Tyndall often gets pushback from their unfortunate customers. read more

Very disappointed. We called them to fix our broken A/C. They told us that the compressor was broken, and quoted us $1,610 for a new one. They charged $140 for the diagnostic... I bought an A/C off eBay for $640 (including shipping). I guess it costs $970 for them to install a new A/C compressor?? ... I then called another company, B.A. Morrison in Castro Valley, to install the compressor. They sent someone out who discovered that the issue were bad air filters and ice build up in the compressor. They cleaned the ice out, and replaced the filters, and charged us $210. It is now running perfectly. I called and asked for a refund for the incorrect diagnosis. They said they'd get back to me and never did. I will never use, nor recommend this company again read more
