I went here yesterday with high hopes after reading the reviews and was let down unfortunately. The service was bad. We waited over 45 minutes for our food when we had only ordered two simple burgers and fries. People that came in after us were served before us which was upsetting. Once we finally got out food they had put it in to-go boxes when we had ordered for dine in. The burgers were average at best but a huge let down overall. I heard about Ty's burger and bookmarked it to try it one day. I had a staff meeting in Irvine which got cut short. So my project manager and I were heading back to SD, and decided to grab a quick bite, something fast, and off the freeway. We take a look at the menu and both ended up ordering the pastrami sandwich. I saw it and thought... Hmmmm pastrami! I had to give it a try. I know I came to a burger house and got a pastrami sandwich! What was I thinking?!? My project manager just laughs. I got my pastrami sandwich with the sweet potato fries. He looked at me funny again. He ordered a side salad... Which I should've done. I couldn't help with the sweet potato fries either. I figure, if I'm indulging, go all the way! Not ruining it with a salad! We decided to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. We sat up front on the sidewalk. I didn't realize there was a nice quiet outdoor patio in the back until I went to the bathroom. (Bathroom was very nice and clean btw!) It took a little bit of time to get our food. It was at lunch time, but the place was not packed. When the food arrived, the sandwich looked delicious and it didn't disappoint! I was however very disappointed with my sweet potato fries. They were not consistently cooked... Some were soft and soggy, while some seemed raw and crunchy. We didn't get checked on, and I didn't want to bother with sending back the bad fries. Overall a nice place. Pastrami was completely worth it. Skip the sweet potato fries! Next time I'll actually order a burger! read more

We were lookin for a burger place to get lunch and Ty's had good ratings so we stopped by. It's a nice small burger house and since the weather in SD is always beautiful, we got patio seating. The patio has a nice graffiti mural and garden, but my only gripe is that there were constant flies everywhere so we had to keep swatting them away while eating. Elk Burger w/ garlic aioli - I remember having an elk burger in NY and Ty's elk burger doesn't compare. The patty was really dry and flavorless. The buns weren't great either...They were pretty much like the regular white buns you get at walmart for cheap. I kept thinking it'd be a nice toasted brioche. I asked for medium and got well done. One of the most tasteless burgers I've ever had. The patty was falling apart and was thin like in-n-out's. Burgers are excellent. The low rating is due to health risks during the pandemic... the staff is not wearing adequate facial protection, they are doing the exposed nose thing with their masks. I have been craving a burger for over a week now and finally, FINALLY - my craving has been satisfied! So glad I held out and came across this Oceanside favorite while on yelp and exploring the city. Order: Build your own - beef, white bun, all toppings, garlic aoli, jalapeños and grilled onions. It was huge and I devoured the entire thing because it was AMAZING! Ordered a basket of fries and they were fried perfectly golden. Used ranch and garlic aoli as dip - SO GOOD!!! If you are in the mood for a burger, you need to come here. I seem to have been on a burger binge this week because this was the third burger place I went to. With that being said, I think this was my favorite out of the 3 (the other spots were Hodad's and CraftBurger). Went Sunday night around 5:30-6 pm. The parking was pretty easy, tons of spots and street parking. When we showed up, it wasn't too busy. We ordered: - BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms and sweet potato fries - Cali Burger - Mac & Cheese Burger - Bison Burger (I think that's what my friend ordered, it had beets and mushrooms on it, looked good!) - beer Knocked off a star because they were out of a few beers and a few game burgers when we went, but besides that the food was good! My friends said the mac and cheese could have used a lil more flavor, but it was still good. The back patio is so cute! Loved sitting back there, with the old brick wall buildings, the succulents, and the poster art. Would definitely recommend this place to others! read more

I like Ty's a lot but really don't come in that often for whatever reason. The burger I usually get is the bacon bleu cheeseburger because of the cheese is so good. I had a salad one time and it was very tasty and colorful. The prices are very decent which I love but I think the exotic burgers are a little more. This isn't a fancy place but it's clean, the employee's are friendly and they have two tv's. They have ceiling fans because they don't have a/c so it can be a little hot inside. The back patio is small but very cozy with some succulent plants that I believe were done by Peter from Succulent Cafe. This is Dan's favorite burger spot in San Diego County, so I've been dying to try it. But yesterday's Ty's didn't bring out their A-game, and ever-so-discriminating Dan, a long-time and loyal diner here, concurred. We ordered the buffalo and chorizo burgers, and both were a little dry. Buffalo is lean meat, so I've never had one that blew me away at any burger joint. The chorizo patty also didn't have a ton of flavor. The fries we added were a little overly crispy and dry but a big portion perfect for sharing. I do appreciate that the meat tasted really clean -- quality, no gristle, and not greasy or soaked in oil. That's usually why I stay away from burgers but Ty's didn't give me that usual heavy feel afterwards. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean, and it's clear the owners are USC fans, ugh! (spoken like a true Bruin!). The fast-casual service was good, with the cashier/manager(?) frequently coming by our table to clear things away while we ate. I've been here twice on my way home from San Diego and all I can say is this place is AWESOME! Everything from the service to the food is top notch. Between my various family members, we've probably tried about 8 different burgers and they all hit the spot. The sweet potato fries are always good and their onion rings are amazing. My last burger was the BBQ burger with cheddar and was it juicy and filling. What sealed my devotion to this restaurant was what happened last visit. There was a problem with their credit card machine and they didn't want to take the chance we would be charged twice so they told us the meal would be comped. We had paid part of the bill with $20 in cash so we insisted they keep at least that much. They wouldn't hear of it and said not to worry about it. We wound up leaving the $20 as a tip since it wouldn't be right to allow them to lose the entire amount. The family that runs this business is incredibly kind and on the up & up. You can bet whenever I'm in the area, I'm bringing friends, guests, everybody who's with me to this wonderful business and to do my part to help this restaurant to continue to prosper. read more

My husband and I ate at Ty's Burger House, the staff was friendly, and pleasant. Our food took about 10-15 minutes to cook. The food was served in good portions, the burgers had plenty of flavor. I had the Veggie burger, it was delicious, the sauce was not too spicy, the burger itself was tasty. My husband had the pastrami burger, he said the meat was full of flavor and cooked well. We ordered the trio basket of fries, onion rings and sweet potato fries, all of them were crispy, full of flavor. I stopped here because of crazy I-5 southbound traffic on a Friday afternoon and Ty's high Yelp rating. I wish I had time to do my usual research and actually read the reviews, few of which really describe anything special going on here besides this joint being in a great location and generally having a "cool" SoCal vibe to it. I had the classic 1/3-pound burger and fries and perhaps it's not fair of me to review a restaurant on its most basic offering, but what else are you supposed to order at a burger joint, right? It's an alright burger. I don't understand all the fuss. It was dressed with the basics: American cheese, tomato, lettuce, red onion, pickle, some house sauce. They claim to use 100% fresh "premium" black angus beef, but true burger connoisseurs, like most people who follow my reviews, know that fresh vs. frozen, grass-fed vs. corn-fed, and premium burger meats and bullshit blends rarely impact the taste or textures of burgers in any significant way. Unless we're talking about 50%+ oxtail, or strategically-added suet, liver, marrow, or discreet (but necessary) umami-bearing additives like fish sauce and tomato powder, it really only comes down to overall fat content, meat-grinding process, pre-cook temperature control, and grill mastery. (Don't @ me on this. I'm an obese man who has done more hands-on research on this than you, I promise.) Ty's has got some decent browning on the meat, but they cooked my burger to be "well-done." That's perhaps the fatal flaw here. Like a trip into Five Guys or In-N-Out, no one here asked me how I wanted my burger prepared. San Diego County is a competitive burger scene and "well-done" burgers automatically take any restaurant out of the running for my "5" stars or even "4" stars. Sorry, Ty's. The fries are good, but you won't change religion over them -- they're crunchy and salty on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside -- in other words, they're about what we'd expect from modern french fries, right? Oh, and I liked the hot bun, because I like hot buns in general (yes, he said dat), and Ty's buns are served warm from grilling, which adds a good sturdiness and grill-y flavor to it. I wouldn't go out of my way for this burger and its accompanying fries. We split a blue cheese burger and a western burger. The produce and buns were fresh and the toppings were plentiful. My minor critique was the blue cheese on the burger. It's a me thing...I like robust blue cheese so theirs could kick up a notch. Their side salad was fantastic with fresh greens and homemade dressing. My biggest complaint was the cashier. When walking into an establishment, it's nice to feel welcomed. That didn't happen. She was quiet and hardly made eye contact, bordering on rude. It really wasn't delightful. This little spot in Oceanside was delicious! I love teriyaki burgers and get hem at most places. Sometimes chicken sometimes beef. This teriyaki chicken breast sandwich was the best I've ever had. The meat was well seasoned and a cooked to perfection! Everything came out nice and hot. The brioche bun was sturdy enough to hold up to the teriyaki sauce and honey mustard dressing, which is not easy to do. Most buns would have disintegrated under the pressure! I'm going to try and recreate this at home, since Oceanside is more than an hour away from home. My husband had the bacon & blue cheese burger and said his was delicious too! I didn't get a bite because it was demolished! To be fair, he didn't get a bite of mine either! I also recommend the onion rings. They were crispy and abundant! I have noticed lots of places scrimp when you order onion rings, but not Ty's! The fries are thin cut, seasoned and tasty. If you're in the area this place is worth a stop!
