Are you a boba fan from OC, LA, or SF? Then don't stop here. Jasmine green tea was so flowery to the point it was soapy. Almond milk tea had an odd aftertaste I can only describe as artificial burnt nuts. Recipes vary, I get it. So my expectation is if I happen to order something that doesn't work, the store will remake it or offer something else. Instead, the staff said they couldn't remake anything and they'd refund my beverages, but only one. The most basic tea spot would operate very differently. So, in conclusion, avoid this. We were looking for a boba shop and found this one nearby. I thought it was local to Monterey, but I was mistaken. My daughter told me there were Tzone shops closer to where we lived. Not a fan. I ordered the Pineapple Green Tea with aloe. While the drink lacked both green tea and pineapple flavors, the aloe was even worse. I grow aloe, so I know what the texture is supposed to be like. The aloe was mush, tasted like pieces of orange that sat in liquid for too long. I thought that maybe they accidentally gave me chunks of fruit in my drink, so I looked carefully but it was aloe. I couldn't even drink it. I was really disappointed. I didn't expect much from a tea shop in Monterey but a pineapple green tea is really hard to mess up. read more

Ice is the size of the ice cubes you use at home. It's ridiculously WAY TOO BIG and makes it impossible to get the boba into the straw. Clearly this is apparent when preparing the tea BUT not apparent when you are purchasing a milk tea and you don't realize what has happened until you are long gone and have paid $7 for your tea. I'm glad they have a boba place downtown! Whether I'm craving a boba while I'm at work, or craving one while I happen to be around downtown, this is a place I enjoy coming to. The milk tea and jasmine milk tea are perfect! And the boba is always a good texture. I haven't experienced bad boba from here, probably because I seem to always go in shortly after they open Lol so its nice and fresh. So that's why I give the place 4 stars. I come here quite often and I'm never disappointed. The staff, however, can have better attitudes. Whenever I come in, there always seems to be the same, young girl working. And she never seems thrilled to be there. Soon as I walked in, she looked up from her phone then back down and sighed... But it's not always that girl, on two other occasions there were other younger people working. It makes me wonder who owns the place though, I never see someone older. Service is slow, and they don't have items ready, like BOBA PEARLS. I'm like, really? You're a boba tea specialty shop and "they're not ready yet?" Also tried the taro flavor, it was meh. I've tried others and nothing wonderful so far. As for cleanliness, they use these big food prep tubs and keep the earl grey mix or taro mix in it. Went back today and was met with an unwelcoming and unfriendly atmosphere. Even though there are different levels of sweetness available, the employees were unwilling to accommodate. I'm assuming they had the drink pre-made and didn't want to make a new one. If you are unable to accommodate sweetness levels, do not list them as an option. Also please make sure that all of your employees are on the same page about your bathroom policy. I've been here multiple times in the past month and have been able to use the restroom each time. I've been going to TZONE ever since I moved here. Not once did I ever receive bad experience from them! The workers are super nice and very chill. The place is always clean and sanitary even before COVID times. Despite not as many options as other boba places, they're still pretty good, especially their black hojicha. Finally! A legit boba shop in Monterey! TZONE has a bunch of other locations in the Bay Area. The closest one up until now is in Santa Cruz, but now thank goodness there's one in Monterey! The shop is very new and sparse right now but definitely has potential. I got a matcha latte yesterday, which is something I've been looking for for ages now from a boba shop (Starbucks in Asia has something similar but not Starbucks America). My only gripe is just a personal opinion, but I don't really like the squat fat cups. Super excited to try out everything on their menu! read more

The Jasmine Milk Tea here is amazing!!! The boba ball are very soft. I was smelling the tea when drinking it. Also, the staff is supper nice! The lobby is pretty cute so you can wait for your drinks, however, they do very fast. This place will be my go to boba!!!! read more

Great word of mouth advertising for a new locally owned business. I was excited to try T (tea?) ZONE. I asked for a decaf tea & cashier looked at me quizzically. 'Do you have a decaf option?' Response ' ‍ Taro', she whispered. 'Is that a flavored powder with added sugar?' '‍ The owner comes in & makes it in the morning,' she mumbled. 'Is it a powder or a tea?' '‍', she mumbled with a giggle & side glance at the other employee who offered no assistance with a response. 'We can make it sugar-free', Cashier offered, but implied that an added sugar substitute was used instead of no sugar. Giggling & eye-rolling commenced because this is how TZONE treats customers, so I exited & went to another local business where employees make beverages fresh to order & can tell me exactly what ingredients are contained in each cup. Mediocre boba spot in Monterey. I am a boba connoisseur and my fiance and I just happened to stumble upon TZONE while we were in the area and noticed it was across the street. We came on a weekday evening and it was pretty dead except for two other customers. Because of covid, they had all of the tables/chairs put away so the place looked super huge and spacious. I could definitely see it being a place where people would like to hang out for hours during pre-covid times. I ended up getting an almond taro milk tea with coconut jelly, and I got a jasmine taro milk tea with rainbow jelly for my fiance. Service was pretty quick and the girls working there were really friendly! I am giving TZONE 3 stars because my drink did NOT taste good. It basically just tasted like almond syrup, and I couldn't taste the boba at all. It was also kind of watery. I sadly ordered a large and didn't even drink half of it. My fiance thought his drink was ok and definitely better than mine, but was nothing to rave about. They had some other drinks that looked pretty good, so if I were to return, I would try one of those instead. Overall, 3 stars for mediocre drinks. read more

Be Patient! If you're in a hurry I would not recommend. Every time I've been there it seems they are training someone new so they got some kinks to work out. First time I went I got a flavored fruit tea and was not happy... I don't think they do flavored tea well. Next few times we got snows and that was MUCH better. My go-to for this place is the tutti-frutti with white pearls(crystal/agar balls) and pudding haha We also tried the macarons and was not a fan pretty hard like a cookie and not soft and moist like its suppose to be. Anyways the menus got most of what a boba lover could want with some really cool looking specialty drinks! I ordered the lychee lover and was not disappointed! Recommend if you're obsessed with lychee like me. I also got a chocolate macaroon- no complaints! It's was yummy and had the right texture! Also the matcha latte looks really good and seems to be popular at other locations, if I came back I would try that. My sister & I were visiting family and was pleasantly surprised to come across TZone in Downtown Monterey. We live in Orange County & have various boba cafes 5 min from our place in every direction haha so we love our boba. Definitely a great placement for the shop since people can grab a drink while walking through the many boutiques or to Fisherman's Wharf. My sister got a Strawberry Green Tea while I got the Mango Flow. This was the first place in the area we noticed that allowed to adjust sweetness levels, which is always appreciated. I ordered a Match Green Tea w/boba. My drink was very tasty. I absolutely love love how my drink came out. I love that they had the deal buy 2 get 1 free. It cost me less than $12 for 3 drinks. The reason for a 4 star rating instead of 5, I did order a 4th drink but the gal missed it and only got the 3. So that was disappointing. Also they didn't have a huge menu for milk teas. I don't know what happened to this place but it went downhill after their old staff left. I came in a few days ago and yesterday to give it one last shot but the service was terrible the drinks were bad. The staff before was so wonderful the tall girl with the glasses and the shorter girl with the black curly here were amazing they always were so accommodating and sweet. Don't get me wrong all of them were amazing but the new staff is questionable. I feel bad for this place now. Freaking delicious. Get their brown sugar tea w/boba. Great smokey/sweet flavor. Good service, although the menu is rather confusing for someone standing at the register feeling anxious to order. Customer service is lack luster, the made us the wrong tea, and most of all the teas lack flavor and the flavor they do have taste disgusting! First time writing a yelp I had the worst experience!!!! we ordered three Milk teas. No Boba was available my Tea and my kids Tea went into the trash right after we ordered. Spent $16 and some change. Never go here again. No flavor in my tea. It's a real shame that not only do they charge you extra for toppings, they don't even include them in your drink or label their drinks. When I asked which drink was which, the girl said "you can tell by the toppings you asked for" no, that is your job to know which drink you made. Today, on a Saturday afternoon, the employees are horrible and rude w an attitude. There were no bobas when we went in. When we asked the employee to en sure she rudely said, "read the sign!" Soon after we saw other people walk out w boba while our drinks have none. While we were talking with our friends, all of a sudden they turned the music volume way up that we can't even hear ourselves think. They blast the music so loud like it's their personal night club. When one person in our group asked her to lower it, she rolled her eyes and never turned the music down. Then I went up and kindly asked her to please the turn it down and then within a minute she turned it back up again! What was a perfectly happy moment when we found boba in Monterey became a horrible experience that we can't even enjoy a bobaless drink.
