The customer service was also pretty bad, similar to last time, no one served us until 15 minutes later and didn't notice that we wanted water and the check. Overall, not the best experience... Came here for a quick dessert with friends, we got the chocolate organic matcha lava cake and strawberry cheesecake greek yogurt bingsoo and they were both so delicious. The lava cake was unfortunately quite small for 4, we got a bite each. It was really yummy and I've never seen a lava cake where the lava is anything besides chocolate so as matcha lovers we were thrilled. The bingsoo was creamy and came with extra strawberry and cheesecake syrups so that you can pour it on the next layer after you eat your way down. MATCHA MOCHI WAFFLE FRIED CHICKEN: This was highly recommended by a reliable source so I wanted to give it a try. The waffle (not gf) has a crispy exterior and favorable chewy interior with a strong matcha flavor. The fried chicken was actually chicken breast, but perfectly moist and crunchy from the meal's start to finish! The egg was cooked sunny side up and still a little runny, so request when you order if that style is not your preference. The yuzu sauce was packed with yuzu flavor and very spicy (could be Thai chilies), but also sweet and delicious. This was $18 which was steep but worth it because the waffle was filling, chicken was amazing, and the sauce was unique. All of the flavors and textures worked well for this dish. I was up in Berkeley for a weekend trip, so I decided to pop by U Dessert Story on Shattuck Ave! I had tried the same branch in San Francisco, and it was really good. We arrived around 8pm on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. The staff were polite, but not very attentive as the restaurant was quite busy. You view the menu through a QR code on the table, but order through the waiters. We ordered the Old School Milo with Cheese Foam on top, and it cane with Oreos as well! The flavor was so nostalgic, and I love the addition of the Cheese Foam, this was a 5/5 for me! The Thai Tea Bingsoo had a very strong tea flavor, even though it came with condensed milk, I felt that it wasn't sweet enough. The boba was cooked well though, and the little crispy toast bites were also good. This was probably a 3/5, but the presentation was lovely! We also ordered the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsoo, and this was sooo delicious! The mangos were fresh and sweet, and the condensed milk + mango puree to pour over adds such a refreshing sweetness to the ice. The sticky rice was also very yummy, I loved how it paired with the bingsoo. Definitely a 5/5! The restaurant itself does get crowded nearing 9pm, but the interior was decorated beautifully. It is about the same size as the SF location, but I do prefer this location in terms of ambiance. Love coming here for the mango sticky rice bingsu. The bingsu is so light I can finish a whole bowl. Probably bad for you but definitely yummy. It comes with a side of condensed milk, green sweet sticky rice and mango purée. This time I also tried the cake sampler. It came with young coconut pandan crepe cake, Thai tea crepe cake and matcha crepe cake. Originally I wanted to try just the pandan but glad we got the sampler because eating all of them I would def say the Thai tea was my fave. It wasn't bitter still sweet but not too sweet and also flavorful. Runner up would be matcha kind of bitter sweet and you can totally taste matcha. Then pandan would come in last, still good but not as flavorful as it could be. The sampler was bigger than I pictured it to be you will definitely be full off of this. Service has been good whenever I've gone. Usually afternoons on weekends. I get seated super fast and the server is always super nice and in a good mood. Came here with a group and we ordered a lot of new items. I haven't been here in a couple months so I was surprised at the new menu items and changes. We ordered quite a lot, and ordered mostly new items that we hadn't tried before. My favorite new item was the croffles--they were really good and even though they have been trending, it was my first time having one. The different flavors were great but I liked the one with strawberries on top the most. We got a shaved ice, the lychee one, and it was interesting. I think the honey is a bit overwhelming but they gave a lot of lychee pieces. Not my favorite but worth a try! I wasn't the biggest fan of the matcha cheesecake slice, but I totally understand that it is personal preference. I've never been a big fan of cheesecake/thick textures. The other cake was lychee and it was extremely light. I still don't really know how I feel about it but the rest of the group enjoyed it a lot. The lava cake was very rich, and the inside was beautiful matcha. If you like chocolate, you should definitely order that. We also got the salted egg toast box, which was one of the new items. A U: Dessert Story where I don't have to cross TWO bridges to get to?! Yay! When we arrived we were seated inside immediately after showing proof of vaccination. The downside was that the QR code on the table for ordering led to a website where we could order for our table, but it said it was closed. I didn't realize that our orders were to be taken by the employees until later. We didn't get our orders taken until like 15 minutes after being seated. The size of this location and the quality of the desserts/drinks are similar to the SF location. I ordered the hojicha bingsoo, cherry blossom smoothie, and my boyfriend ordered the blue lychee drink. We got our dessert and drinks less than 10 minutes after ordering them. The hojicha bingsoo was very earthy, and it's topped with salted whipped cream. It came with a side of dark syrup which I think is molasses, and a side of warm boba to top it up. We poured the molasses on our bingsoo once we got to the middle of it. The molasses gave a caramel tone to the bingsoo. There's also brownie pieces within the bingsoo too. The bingsoo itself was a good size for two people and was flaky, soft and melts in the mouth. The blue lychee drink was really sweet and pure lychee according to my boyfriend. But he likes sweet things so there's that. The drink is mostly for the aesthetics. The cherry blossom smoothie was creamy with strawberry bits inside. There was a hint of lychee and rose flavor, my two fav combinations. The downside was that for one bingsoo and two drinks totaled to $40. Pretty pricey, but again it's for the aesthetics. The portion sizes ware not very big considering the price point. Service- Service was frustrating. There were 4 of us and we asked to combine two open tables for two. We were told no because they didn't want to move the tables. So we sat at the bar instead, however right after a party of FIVE combined those two tables. A table for 4 then opened up so we asked if we could be moved there and the server said yes but then moved a different party there. This business is amazing. This is my 2nd time back in just 1 week. That has the best dessert I've ever had in my entire life and I have had a lot of desserts. I originally came here for my birthday the previous week and I had to come back because the desserts were just that good. This is on par with the amazing desserts that I have had in Japan and I cannot wait to have another special occasion or reason to come back here. The service here is amazing very friendly attentive and kind. As you can see from my photos I had the salted egg toast for the second time and this has got to be my favorite dessert it is just the right amount of sweet without being overbearing the toast is light and buttery and the decadence of the gold leafing is amazing. These desserts are meant to be shared as they are huge and I feel that they are very fairly priced for the amount of attention artistry and taste that goes into each one of these creations. Came here at night after some yummy pizza. My soul knew it needed the matcha lava cake as soon as I saw it and it did not disappoint. Everything felt a little small but it's meant to compliment the meal you already ate. In that sense it's fair in portion, but felt a bit pricey. Employees were super nice and accommodating. What a great spot for cold desserts to beat the summer heat! This place is located just off campus from UC Berkeley and there's ample street parking nearby or you can take the 51B/79 and walk to it from their respective stops :) We were seated quickly by a nice host and we ordered the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsoo. This was so good! The Bingsoo itself managed to stay frozen for awhile as we ate our way through it and the mangos were perfectly ripe! I loved the coconut granola on top of the Bingsoo and sticky rice as well. The sticky rice had a pandan aroma and it was topped with a mildly sweet coconut cream. Yum! The sauces they provided were a mango sauce and condensed milk, both of which we poured straight onto the Bingsoo. It was great! Several servers came by to make sure everything was great and they were so friendly! It definitely helps that the café is well-decorated and has such a cute ambiance. I will add that it was pretty warm in there due to the lack of AC. My only gripe with this place is how pricey some things are. $14 for a slice of crêpe cake is a lot, especially when you think about how much it would cost at one of the OG crêpe cake bakeries like Lady M Cake Boutique ($8 per slice). I would be more forgiving if it was in a different area, but the primary demographic of the area they serve is students so it should be priced accordingly. We've had Seoul Hot Dog, which have corn dogs that are out-of-this-world good. But, this isn't a review for Seoul Hot Dog, this is a review for U :Dessert Story's dogs... As soon as the corn dog came out, I knew EXACTLY what it was. Pulmuone (a Korean frozen food company) makes frozen Korean corn dogs that are about the size of your ring finger, and their hot dogs have mozzarella cheese and fish sausage inside. Lo and behold this hot dog was about the size of your finger and had mozzarella with fish sausage inside. Cmon U :Dessert Story, your crepe cakes and bingsoos -while pricey- are so good! I expected a lot better than packaged food, hun. Other than the sin that they made and called a Korean Cheese Dog, this place is good. The service is always on point and the ambiance is excellent.
