This is a very horrible company! Their auto payment system had some problem, didn't charge the customers for a current month. Their staff immediately (within a week from their auto payment incident) mailed out the penalty letter to the customers and their friends that were put on emergency contacts, punishing their customers for the mistakes that U-haul staffs caused!! read more

Good price and very convenient. I have rented a van 3 times in the last weeks; all the times I've been very satisfied; maybe more as I was so scared because of other reviews. The process was fast and simple; it helps a lot to do the work online so when you are there everything goes faster. The bill is clear; no hidden fees. Keep in mind that you'll pay a fixed fee (e.g. 19.99 for a van) + a fee per mile + gas. Also you'll probably pay the additional $10 for insurance; then the taxes ... so in the end you'll be paying around 50-80 depending on how many miles yo do. You provide an estimation and that amount is blocked in your credit card; then there is an adjustment depending on the final cost (after real miles and gas cost is added). Staff is reasonably friendly and helpful; not all of them are same nice, but overall is OK. In my last visit there was actually a very nice person attending other customers; he indicated two times options that would cheaper than what they had selected and offered for additional resources in a nice way, without that 'selling attitude' that I find so annoying. Vans work fine and are clean. You provide an estimation of how long you'll need the van: I have always taken the whole day. You can return after hours; just throw the keys inside through the door. I think that it really helps to reserve at first time in the morning and being there early so you don't have to wait too long and people are less stressed in general. I had one of the worst experiences renting a van from this location. I don't know what U-Haul are trying to do but it's just not working. I reserved a vehicle a day before as usual and went pick it up. When I got there they took my information and asked me to do everything online. This includes opening an account take a picture of your drivers licenses yourself (so long process) the app was acting up of course which made worse. Imagine the scene a whole bunch of people making a line while on their phone trying to get truck. I went and asked what if I didn't have a smart phone trying to be that guy who finds a gap in the process and they were like we would give a smart phone to do it I know technology is supposed to help and make things easier but boy that was not easy to do. read more

I rented a van with the understanding the cost was $99/day with unlimited mileage. That is actually not the case. The cost is $99/day with 100 miles. When I received the invoice, I was actually charged for 100 additional miles beyond what I'd driven. U-Haul issued a credit after spending 40 minutes on the phone with two different representatives. The general manager could have been friendlier. He talkes to you without even looking at you --hello, I'm an adult and not a kid --- he was busy looking at the computer screen. Not to mention that while he is servicing me, he answers the phone and decides on talking to the individual on the phone and leaves me waiting. He is very knowledgeable but he portrays the feeling of I am in charge here and what I say goes. Did I say arrogant?!?! When I got there, I got in line to rent a trailer, talk to him and he sent me out with no paperworks to hitch the trailer. Came back and got in line for the second time for the paperwork. Sent me out again, this time with the paperworks, to check the condition of the trailer -- came back to get in line for the third time to finish my paperwork. Every time I get in line, there were new customers that came in. My 45 minutes of wait could have been cut by 2/3rd if there was a priority of who goes in and out. The person who helped me hitch the trailer, Robert, was very helpful. I wish I could say the same thing about the general manager. Watch your wallet! I made two mistakes when I rented a truck; did not check milage in and out (never had a problem before) and asked to email me the invoice. When I got my invoice, I was charged for 100+ miles. My former address and new address are less than 15 miles apart. Looking google maps, including pickup and drop off was 27 MI. You switched the 26-foot truck I reserved weeks in advance to a smaller truck THE NIGHT BEFORE my move date and told me instead of my scheduled 9AM pickup it's now 3:30PM, causing me to have to make 2 extra trips back and forth between Mountain View and Paso Robles - that's 2.5 hours and over 200 miles each way. The tiny truck you did provide was almost an hour late as I sat there waiting in a office that smelled like hot sewer because some animal employee of yours demolished the men's bathroom located right next to the front desk moments before. Was I offered a trailer free of charge and 400 mile credit to make things right for the last second & late truck switch wreaking havoc to my move schedule? NOPE!!! You wasted my time with a 7.5 hour delayed pickup and unnecessary travel from the truck bait & switch, caused me to owe $200 in rent back fees for not having everything out of my old home the day I was supposed to move it in one load, the truck was dirty and there were blood splotches all over the inside where it looked like someone spit blood on the floor and walls?!?! THAT IS A BIOHAZARD!!! I wasted money on gas due to the 2 extra trips and even though I was reimbursed partially for extra miles (only after calling main office and complaining), I still had to pay for the $75 gas difference your main office claimed they couldn't pay. How is any of this my fault again? That's $275 you owe me (not including my wasted time and stress having to drive an extra 400 miles past 2AM) which I will never see again due to YOUR STAFF'S NEGLIGENCE. And to add further insult to injury, your s****y truck leaked transaxel fluid all over my new home's pristine driveway because your truck "maintenance person" did absolutely NOTHING between the time it was dropped off LATE and I was handed the keys! I'm lucky the truck didn't blow the transaxel mid trip! Oh, I mean during 1 of the 3 TRIPS. 2 weeks on, and the nightmare continues as I STILL have yet to hear back from your shady insurance company who said they'd send someone out ASAP to look at the driveway damage to assess, clean & repair. I've used U-Haul several times and have always been happy with their service. However, last week I rented a truck there and had the worst experience I ever had with any big name company. They basically tricked me into paying a whole lot more gas than I needed to. It's unbelievable they play this kind of dirty trick on a customer. When I got the truck they told me that I need to return the truck with same or more gas, but didn't say anything else about the gas meter. After I drove 20 miles I found I had only 1/4 tank left. So I figure I need to fill the tank up to get the 80 miles I planned to drive. I spent $90 to fill up the tank. After that I drove 60 miles. When I returned the truck, however, the gas meter did not even drop below the "F(ull)" line. I looked it up later and found that the 17'' truck is about 10 mpg which means I only needed about 8 gallons. I added more than 22 gallons. That means I paid $50+ more than needed for the gas. Apparently, the gas meter is very inaccurate or disproportional. The "E(mpty)" to "F(ull)" scale shows only a small portion of the real full scale, which creates a false impression of a much smaller tank. It's either: 1. U-Haul trucks have this kind of meter specifically designed to trick customers to pay for more gas. 2. Or the staff at this location intentionally neglected to mention the meter problem, to trick customers to pay for more gas. 3. Or the staff simply doesn't care if the customer pays more than what they need to. None of the above is acceptable. I'm extremely disappointed and will never use U-Haul again. read more

When I got there, I was informed by the clerk that I would have to return the truck to Mountain View (for no additional charge!? how sweet of you!), and that I'd have to be back one hour before the end of the original requested rental time. Now how d'you figure that one out? Not only do I have to drive an extra hour back, but I also have to return the truck one hour early? What a steal! DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR IN THE LOT! Park on the street! My car got locked in overnight because people parked their trucks in the driveway. Customer Service lied to me and said someone was coming to fix it for me. Needless to say, no one showed up and I had to take a cab home. The manager was extremely rude to me. Joseph said to me, "It's not my fault your car got locked in. I can't do anything about it now." When he called me to offer me a coupon 2 weeks later for what happened, he said it was only because I "kept bothering customer service with my complaints." Terrible experience here. I only gave one star because the truck was in OK shape, but I would prefer to give zero stars. Waited in line for what seemed like an ungodly amount of time for only having one person in front of me. I got to the counter and the guy was totally disinterested in helping me. He didn't speak to me, he just handed me papers and the keys. I slid my card when prompted, but never saw how much I was actually being charged. Then he started helping the guy BEHIND me in line before finishing up with me. He handed me the keys, told me I have insurance so not to worry about damage, and then walked away. He never explained the rental agreement, he never told me how much I was being charged, he didn't tell me when it was due back (which led to me getting charged an obscene amount of money), and he was completely unprofessional and uncommunicative, and I will never do business with u-haul again. Wow. I am so glad this is over. I rented a U-Haul from this place. No snags on the reservation process. On the appointed day, I picked up that bad boy and spent all day moving. I returned the truck and was initially greeted with a $134,000 bill. Yes, that's $134,000. Apparently someone had made a mistake with a decimal point. They eventually corrected it, but the mileage was still too high: 77 miles for a 40 mile move. It's not like I went joy riding in this thing. I told someone and they agreed to fix it. I was happy they did. But overall, not a great experience. Lines are terribly long and slow, staff is not too informed, and the on-site parking all says "30 Minutes." Where do I leave my car while I'm moving. Which is not to say I won't be back the next time I have to move. read more

I was in and out of this place with no hassles. Called at 2pm to reserve a truck for 5pm. Showed up and was out in 10 minutes. Picked up my new couch and was back there a couple of hours later. They had me checked out in about 5 minutes. I read through the negative reviews for this location, and almost all of them are talking about issues with the corporate office in Arizona that you get sent to if someone doesn't pick up the phone. It's not their fault. If you call and get the call center, hang up and call back later. For what it's worth, I also got the call center my first try and the guy was an idiot. But that doesn't reflect on this location, and after losing my patience, I politely thanked him and called back and got someone local on the phone. read more

Second time I was renting a truck from Uhaul. And again, the truck had the gas tank not full. I was aware of the fuel charge they would make if the fuel gauge is not equal or above the original measurement. When I was filling up the tank (by small amount every time), the gauge got stuck in one position. Then at one moment it went up by a large amount. I ended up overfilling the tank from the original amount by more than 10 gallons. They didn't even think of reimbursing me the overfilled amount. I talked to the manager Earl Godhigh - he just wanted to politely get rid of me citing the contract clause. I think I made a mistake when I put to much fuel. I should have calculated the maximum possible amount based on the mileage and don't trust the fuel gauge. Then it would be easier to fight the fuel charge (if it would happen) having the mileage and the receipt from the gas station. I do not incline to believe that they made the faulty fuel gauge on purpose. Fuel gauges are not very sensitive anyway. They use a little trick : rent a truck with the gas tank not full, have a clause in the contract which says no reimbursement for overfill and the fuel charge of $30 if they think the gauge is below the original amount. Many customers end up overfilling the gas tank or charged with the fueling fee. Some other car/truck rental companies use the policy to rent the vehicle with the full tank and expect it returned with the full tank. This way it is much easier for the customers to fill the right amount. But it eliminates a nice profit for Uhaul.. read more

I left the world of U-Haul for good a few months back. I am now in the world of Penske, which is far superior in every way. U-Haul has old trucks with weak AC, Penske has trucks, which are all less than two years old with powerful air conditioning. The U-Haul store always has a long line with one employee; Penske has no line with multiple staff members. You cant call the local store so of course when I arrive for my appt they tell me (rudely) "there's no way we can do that today". So I installed it myself and avoided giving them $500. But they do have a near monopoly so fast forward 2 weeks. I am standing in line with 7 other customers. It has not moved in 20min. Rented a trailer from this location and it was easy peasy. I shopped for the type of trailer I needed online and made my reservation. Turned up on site and they had the trailer parked out in the open - easy to hookup to my car and easy to maneuver out of the lot. A staff member greeted me, walked me to the trailer and hooked it up for me. All-in-all I think I was there for 10 min. maximum before I hit the street. The rates were good, the equipment was spotless and the staff member that helped me was polite, competent and professional. No complaints about the service at all. Minus 1 star because the single axle trailer I'd rented was very noisy. It seemed to be bouncing and metal was hitting metal as that happened. Really annoying. So, I'd mentioned this to the staff member when I returned the trailer and he said that he knew that this was a problem. So, knowing that there was a problem with this type of trailer, I'd expect the company to remedy it. Even so, it was a minor inconvenience for me since I was only going a few miles but please make note of this if you plan to use the trailer extensively. They'll need to add something to the hitch for you to prevent this noise -- it would not be an acceptable noise for any length of trip/time. read more
