I went to U-Haul on 12th Street in Salem Oregon to get my propane tank filled. A sign said ring bell for service so I did. An employee came out helping another customer and told me there was a long line and it would be a while before they could help me. As I was waiting several people went in and came out with what they needed. After 45 minutes I went in and told them that all these people in line had come before me and I had been waiting for 45 minutes. The employee told me I should have come in and waited in line. I told him that the sign said to ring the bell for service and he had seen me outside waiting. I went back outside and waited another 15 minutes before going in and standing in the line. When it was my turn the rude employee told me he would not help me if I complained about the service because he was only doing his job. I then kept my mouth shut and when he saw my tank he said it was too old to fill. So after waiting over an hour I still was left without any propane I had come for. VERY POOR SERVICE!! read more

Had to pick up a moving van for work today. Picking up the van was great. The person there helping me was awesome. It's when I dropped off the van at this place, not so much. They close at 7pm. I got there at 7:03. I didn't know when they closed. That's just when I happen to get there. Anyhow, no big deal. The doors were locked and I couldn't figure out where to drop off the keys. Their were employees inside. I was trying to get some help. They finally yelled at me to go to the side of the building away from the front door. I went over there and found the drop box. That's all fine, but it wasn't that easy to figure out. The drop box should be next to the front doors or at least something explaining and pointing where to go. I purposely went and looked for something explaining or pointing that way. Nothing. This could be an easy remedy. Just saying. read more

i worked at this location for a year and a half. by choosing to rent from here you are opening yourself up to be charged for damages from prior customers and overnight gas siphoning attempts. The staff mock and call customers hateful names such as mentally Re******. They also discriminated against a blind guy who worked there and denied him basic accommodations when he requested them. I actually went there today because of an internet search for where I could buy propane near me. It seems all the places are going towards the Blue Rhino type places and I wasn't interested in that at all. I bought a new tank last year and want it filled to capacity. Super nice guy named Charlie helped me and was very accommodating. I appreciated his kindness, helpfulness, and just pleasant self. Please U-HAUL PEOPLE, do not get rid of this service. Boy don't forget your ball joint before picking up a trailer, they will charge you another $29 dollars and no it's not returnable. Go figure, even though is not an opened package l...it's an item that just hangs on a wall. Had to have the trailer back by 7:00pm, pulled in at 7:00pm! After the employees got done chatting with each other, started processing the return, charged $30 for being "3 minutes late". After a short discussion, I was told rentals are based on a 24 hour schedule. Horrible customer service, yard is crowded and unorganized, employees not wearing masks, overall bad experience. I rented a truck from Salem to Biloxi, MS. The truck broke down in Flagstaff, AZ, Moriarty, NM, and Amarillo,TX. I have spent more time dealing with Roadside Assistance over the past few days than on the road. The truck currently backfires, sputters and stalls. Once it stalls, the brakes do not work properly. The technician determined that it has a clogged fuel filter. I have been here two days and they have not fixed it. They want me to drive a fully loaded 26 foot truck that stalls and doesn't brake well once stalled to the nearest shop. I told them it was too dangerous to drive, so they are leaving me stranded. I am going to be out over $9000.00 additional dollars to complete my move to Biloxi. I have been a U-Haul customer for many years, but never again. They are not even trying to rectify the situation. read more

The trailer tech makes sure that the lights are working properly with all my vehicles. The staff is super efficient and friendly. we reserved a car hauler trailer three months in advance. Today we were told "no problem" the trailer will be ready at 4 pm. When we arrived, we were told that it was delivered to the Silverton Road location. Drove to the Silverton Road location. It wasn't there either. #1 Why did 12th street tell us they had it when they didn't? #2 Why didn't 12th street location call ahead before they sent us on a wild goose chase? I needed a small truck to move some stuff. The young male was really pleasant when I picked it up. The truck was not maintained. The steering wheel was shaking back and forth at 55MPH on. The windshield wipers were worn out and chattered. I bought two wipers to replace and assumed I would be reimbursed. The same male treated me like crap as though I was trying to extort money from him. Needless to say I was out the money. Avoid this place. Horrible! read more

We rented a 26' truck to move my mother today, everything went smoothly with the transaction of getting the truck. What really upset me was we returned the truck 17 1/2 hours early and did not get a discount. Then they have the audacity to charge $1.09 per mile because it is the weekend, during the week it is .89 per mile. They never told us the per mile when we rented from them. What a rip off to charge more on the weekends and rake in extra money. Not real fond of this dealer. We have always used the one on Silverton Rd & Fischer Rd in NE Salem. They are sister stores so we thought it would be ok. My choice would be not to use them again. read more

Used them twice in Novemeber. First time, the line was sooooo long out the door that it took us 30 minutes to even get to the counter. Second time, no one was in line and it was easy peasy. All three staff members I dealt with were super pleasant and friendly. The first truck I rented seemed to have trouble starting up. But the second truck was just fine. Horrible place to rent a truck from!! They're clearly taking advantage of COVID precautions to scam their customers!! They let you make a reservation online with a contract number and everything and then don't tell you about additional charges until AFTER you've returned the truck and they email you a 'revised bill'. How is that legal? When I called and asked about the additional, (separate from the original agreed upon charges amount), that I happened to notice on my monthly statement, the manager was rude and said, '...that's how U-Haul has always done it. You should have known that when you picked up the truck.' And that 'online reservation isn't a contract'. But he had no explanation as to why I had received a contract number with my online reservation. Seriously? They're exploiting the fact that people are doing more online to avoid being in store and they're changing the charges between online order and final receipt of service. There's multiple reviews on their website saying that they've pulled this scam on other customers. I've contacted my credit card company and the charges are being reversed. So I reserved a trailer to tow my father in laws truck back to Phoenix so I can restore it. Everything was fine when I went to pick it up. When I got it to the farm and loaded the truck we decided to check everything on the trailer. That's when we noticed that the break system fluid was empty and had been for a while because it was rusty inside. I have pictures. It was 2 minutes after they closed so we called and fought with customer service about getting someone out to do the repairs. I know that's corporate and not this store but just contributes to the situation. We finally got someone out and found out the brake hose had a leak. Apparently they don't check that like they should. We had to get a new trailer from another uhaul guy that opened up late for us in Jefferson, the opposite way we were going. I had to purchase another night in a hotel and now running a day behind getting back to Phoenix. We were told that they would refund 1/2 of my bill and we are going on 2 months now and keep getting the run around by them. Oh, my manager needs to approve it. Then, oh, she's on vacation now. Look, I own a business also and know how things go so I am very reluctant to post a bad review but this is getting ridiculous. Just make it right. Also if you rent ANYthing from these guys please check it over yourself because they don't. I'm not driving 1300 miles back to Phoenix without brakes. I'm picking up my father in laws other truck next summer and I won't be using these guys again. read more
