I made an appointment online for a haircut at Unique Cutz and my barber was Marcel, who seemed to be highly reviewed. I got an appointment confirmation pretty much immediately. I showed up this morning but ended up being a couple minutes late (I had not realized there's no parking lot, buy FYI for anyone else that's new to this place). I didn't really know how to describe what I wanted outside of a term I found online, so I showed Marcel a picture of the hairstyle I was trying to go for and he immediately got to work. A good chunk of my time in the chair was spent facing away from the mirror, so for a few minutes I was nervous about ending up with bad hair (not because of Marcel, but rather just my experiences at other places I've tried in the past). When he spun the chair back around though, I was pleasantly surprised because it actually looked pretty good (something I haven't been accustomed to yet). He asked me how I wanted certain things like sideburns, neckline, etc and did exactly what I was going for. Also I don't think I've ever seen my neckline done so well. One thing to keep in mind is the payment system is all electronic and just auto-charges to the card you book the appointment with, so there's no physical "transaction" at the register or anything (you don't swipe your card again to add a tip or anything). I didn't have change on me for the tip so I had to ask him to break a larger bill but will be sure to bring some on me for next time. I drove into Long Island all the way from Jersey after contacting Harold through Yelp. He was quick to follow up and fit me into his busy schedule for a same day cut. I've never gotten a haircut at U-nique Cutz until today and I'm glad I made the hour long drive. From the get go, Harold was attentive and the service he provided was top notch. Been coming here for a 6 months now and this place is great. I have Harold, the owner, who takes care if me all the time. The wait is never too bad at most I had two people a head if me on the weekends. It is better to call for an appointment without a doubt, but not extremely necessary. The staff are all good at giving a good haircut, when the owners but around I trust any of the other barbers to take care of me. This is my first visit in this barber shop and I got to say I judge hard. I have been to many successful/ unsuccessful barbershops and I will point out the pros and cons. Pros: 1. Nice & clean urban design themed barbershop 2. Friendly upbeat staff that can hold a solid conversation while your getting a cut. 3. The staff have a great artistic view on how to shape your hair to complement your face. 4. The machines all are sanitized and properly maintained so it can cut your hair smoothly & not yank your hair aggressively while cutting it. 5. The price for a haircut & shave is $25 which is a great deal. Cons: 1. The majority of products are aerosol based that is used to cut your hair with. Which makes it uncomfortable to breath around because of the oder it leaves off. 2. As I was getting my face shaped up with the razor the barber did not apply any shaving cream which left some brutal razor burns. (Though I am not sure if they did not have any on stock at the time. As the barber was explaining he needed to restock on some supplys) _____________________________________________________ Over all I had a good experience. My barber took his time cutting my hair as I had a bad haircut from another barber shop. All I asked for was a combe over. He explained he was going to leave my top hair to grow because it was slightly to short and uneven to trim he then went on to give me a 2 on the sides and cornered/cleaned up my edeges. I showed up and was seen after about a 15minute wait. I sat down and asked for a low cut fade and a trim of my beard. He went to work and after a short time I came out with a cut that looked bettr than I had expected. Jonathan continued to ask about whether or not I had a sensitive skin to razors and took his time around my beard. He even took the time to explain and point out sensitive areas. From the experience I knew I would be coming back. The second time I came in I had contactedJonathan but he was already full so after calling the shop Marcel made the time to get me a cut that I desperately needed. I asked for a skin tight fade and a removal of my beard. He gave me one of the best fades ive ever seen and experienced. The cut was smooth and he was constantly checking to see if I was comfortable. I was most impressed with the fact that without having to make a note about my sensitive skin, he never used a straightedge blade and cleaned up my beard and gave me a line up that rivaled using one. First of all I'd like to start by saying this is a true hidden gem. First time in and it won't certainly be my last. Since the minute I walked in everything was smooth, the barber that took care of me Francis (Very young and talented cat) hooked me up with two quarters for the meter. I literally waited 5 minutes to sit down, great service overall. I really wanted a new look an actual haircut, but since today was my first time I wanted to get the feel of the place, barber, everything they use type thing so I just got my beard and a shapeup done. Just moved to the Lynbrook area and was looking for a great barber shop and stumble across a shop that had 5 stars and over 90 reviews. Must be pretty decent I think to myself. I said a message via Yelp to set up an appointment at around midnight and Marcel was there to answer the call. Setting up an appointment is as easy as two clicks on your phone. I would highly recommend checking out their website and seeing all the different services that they offer - I went with a full cut w/ a hard part, wash and beard trim. Now talking to Marcel, before getting to business, I told him that I've never been a person to have a barber that I have to go to and have a very limited understand of how to ask for what I want - ‍. But Marcel told me I was in good hands and I could feel that right away when I first met him. He talked me through the whole process of what he was doing and WHY he was doing it - which is huge for me because 1. It reassured .w that he knew his craft in and out and 2. Made me more knowledgeable as to how my hair should be cut. Afterwards, we talked about product and what I like to use in my hair and the type of look I like - matte finish with solid hold - I just hate it when my hair falls in my face after just a few hours. He knew exactly what product would be perfect for my hair. After it was all said and done, it was the best hair cut I have ever received and my girlfriend agrees to that statement. The low rating is due to a bad experience that I had here. I would have given 1 star based upon the experience. I am giving 2 stars because the barber that I go to does a good job, is knowledgeable, and is friendly. I made an appointment. When I got there on time, my barber was finishing up another client. There was someone else waiting there. My barber said that he is in front of me. After my barber finished the client that was already there and the other person that was waiting, I ended up starting my haircut about 45 minutes later than the appointment time. I understand that he was finishing up someone else's haircut at the start of my appointment time. But what is not fair is that he took someone else ahead of me. I also understand having to wait up to 15 minutes after my appointment time. But what is not fair is having to wait 45 minutes after my appointment time. What is the point of making an appointment if I will be treated as a walk-in? What's worse is that they charge extra for an appointment. I wish someone had told me that when I called, but I am willing to let that go. Why do they charge extra for an appointment? I assume it is because they would give you priority for the time that you choose. I feel cheated that I made an appointment, paid extra for it, and still had to wait like a walk-in. This bad review is not due to the extra money. It is due to the principle of not honoring an appointment and still charging extra for it. read more

He took pride in making sure my son had the best cut he could possibly get. I tried this place after seeing all the positive reviews and after trying it myself, ive since visited another 5-6 times so far. I've had Susan, Rich and Marcel cut my hair and they each did an excellent job. They don't make you feel rushed and take their time to make sure it comes out exactly the way you want it.
