I got the large açaí base with lots of toppings, including bee pollen and goji berries, and my friend got the large half agave coconut base and half açaí base with strawberry, bee pollen, and honey drizzle. The açaí itself is extra thick, which we loved. You choose your base and then get unlimited toppings, which is kind of amazing and everything tasted super fresh. The space feels tropical with cute plants And some outdoor seating. I also loved learning that the name comes from the little canoes used to transport açaí berries from the jungle to the market. Dare I say Ubatuba has the best Acai bowls in town, maybe even all of LA? The ingredients are fresh, delicious, quality and the service is always very good, quick and efficent. You have plenty of options for bases and even more for toppings. They also have empanadas which I have yet to try but look forward to. There's plenty of seating outside and some seating inside. Nice decor and most importantly they have a water dispenser which is so appreciated. It's pricey but totally worth it and I'm sure its on par with other Acai bowls around, maybe even more affordable then other places as they don't charge you extra for chosing multiple bases. I just say it's pricey because a small is $12 and costs as much as lunch in some places. I just had to come back to Ubatuba Acai today since my wife was craving it and we were in the area. I was here last week and got some ubatuba for my parents to try as well which they loved. My dad said whenever I go back to get him some more so I did just that this morning. I came an hour before lunch time and they were not busy at all. There was many parking spots in the small lot it's in. So I got 3 medium bowl, for my parents I just got them the bowl with mango base and added strawberry, banana, pineapple and blueberry for the toppings. This is now my 3rd Ubatuba I've been to and I'm always impressed by the accessibility and quality of the food as well as the stellar service! The two staff members that were there, did not look like they wanted to be there. I ordered a small açaí bowl and a smoothie. The fruit at the counter did not look fresh at all. The peaches looked like they had been there for a while as they were brown and looked mushy. The pineapples look like they came from a can and the mangoes tasted super dry, I doubt it was fresh at all and I was given a pale strawberry which was not sweet at all. It was enough to be filling. I love that the toppings are all included with the base price. There are very few that have an upcharge, which is reasonable. It's a really good deal for a healthy meal. The acai bowl was flavorful and the fruit was very fresh. They cut up the strawberries and bananas right in front of you. The acai base is darker and less sweet than at other places, likely because they don't use juice or filler. The employees were upbeat and friendly. I felt welcome and taken care of. We are outside and enjoyed the music. It felt a lot like being at a cafe in Rio. On the way out, I grabbed some pao de queijo (cheese bread). Happy to say this Ubatuba is in walking distance from my place. I like to go on the weekends for a late breakfast/brunch. They have build-your-own bowls. And the açai mix they use is really good. I think they mix banana in there too. You can get all sorts of lovely breakfast toppings like granola, overnight oats, or chia pudding. And there's lots of fruit: mango, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, etc. Besides fruit I like to put almond butter, flax meal, and chocolate chips on mine. They have 3 sizes to choose from, but the smallest is usually enough for me. Service here is pretty good. They've never been busy when I've gone because most people take their bowl to-go. They do have some seating though but it's not really an atmospheric place if you know what I mean. Their empanadas are also pretty good, but it depends on the flavor. Right now, I've only tried the vegan ones and my favorite is the chik'n jalapeño followed by the regular Beyond one. Just make sure to double check the ones they gave you. They have the name printed on the outside of the empanada. I don't eat fully vegan but I was given a meat-containing one on accident before, so check your flavor before you leave! In terms of price, I would say they are a little pricey for what they offer: the smallest sized bowl is $9.50 at this location, which seems a little ridic. Also the empanadas are $5.75, which is also $.50 more than other locations. World Empanadas is only like 2-3 miles away and theirs are only $4.40 (and have better flavors with healthier ingredients). So that's part of why I took off a star. Overall though, the açai is tasty and the empanadas are pretty good, but either has to be a special treat and not a regular purchase because of the pricing. read more
