It was like Soup cuz it sat so long and it waa so Salty that it was inedible. The beef was Hard So overcooked. I called the office before i tasted the salty soupy salad and they want me to deal with GrubHub now they didn't offer more food. They said deal with GrubHub for a refund and that was the manager , I'll never order again. I'm going through GrubHub to order and it is very expensive for me on my budget. I felt like some Thai food and realized that when I go out to Torrance, I never eat Thai food or know of a good Thai restaurant out there. I did a Yelp search and found Ubon in the Crossroads Shopping Center. I generally like to stick to familiar streets and areas I know when trying new places. I guess I'm too lazy to look up directions for an unfamiliar street unless absolutely necessary. I tried the tom yum chicken soup, the tom kha chicken soup, the angel wings, the panang beef lunch special, and the yellow curry chicken lunch special. The lunch specials came with rice, salad, and a small egg roll. The flavors of the dishes were very comparable to the flavors I'm used to from Thai restaurants I usually order from on the westside. It's nice to know that I found a good Thai restaurant in the South Bay. The lady who took my order was extra kind and polite. Good customer service. The food was ready in about 15 minutes. read more

It's where I ended up for dinner last night, with fellow Yelper, Niki S. To clarify, intimate - the dining area isn't very large. I don't recommend large parties. The last time I ate here was over four years ago and I'm glad this small business has lasted - because I enjoyed dinner last night. Niki and I shared a Crying Tiger appetizer; I ordered the Roasted Duck Noodle and Niki Ordered the Boat Noodle Soup. I liked the appetizer, both taste and portion size. The steak was tender and juicy - went well with the spicy Thai dipping sauce. It wasn't spicy for me, but I liked it when mixed all the ingredients together. I also liked the Roasted Duck Noodle. I chose the flat noodle (choice of five different noodles). Generous portions of ingredients but for my taste, I would have liked the broth spicier. Not that I didn't like it overall though. Parking is in the shopping center where Home Depot and In-N-Out are, meaning there's lots but can be challenging when busy; but free. One other thing - there's a Yelp check in offer. This place reminds me of chiang mai! The flavors are great and the people who work there are as sweet and friendly as the people of chiang mai. Maybe the flavors have been slightly changed to accommodate American tastes but for the most part everything is really tasty here. So glad there's a few thai places worth going to in South bay and not have to drive all the way to Hollywood. As a shout out the three bowl thai spots in gardena (bowl thai, sweet rice and bowl thai grill) are my other favorite thai spots. But this one is very close if you live in the south bay. Ubon has gotten me through a lot of long, late nights. The lunch special is the better deal, though. You get a veggie spring roll and a small salad with your entree, and anything non-noodle comes with rice. The Pad See Ew is a standard, flat noodles and crisp Chinese broccoli in sweet soy sauce. The Green Curry with chicken is pure cream without the cream, and it's a little cooler and a little less sweet than the others. I prefer the tofu as the chicken and beef can get a little tough with high-heat cooking. The Roasted Duck Curry isn't anything special, but I can't resist. The red curry base is creamy and sweet, and the pineapple only adds to it. The duck is not exactly high quality, but the taste and texture are fine - you get what you pay for, and $10.95 is a deal for duck. They also make Thai purple rice, which they call "brown rice", and it has a nice texture. I get it, it's not Thai Town, but I'm grateful to have it in the South Bay. My attachment to Ubon may be more sentimental than objective, but at least I found some Thai food I like. read more

The first time I was early enough to catch the lunch special that included a salad and crispy fried egg roll with my beef Kee Mao flat rice noodles, stir fried with garlic, chili, onions, bell peppers, green beans, bean sprouts, and scallions for $9.95. I asked for it to be spicy and although I really didn't need to add any spice to it, there were three containers of various peppers on the table, so I "had" to add a bit :) On another day, I chose shrimp, and asked for more spice...this time I did not need to add any more peppers, but I did need more tissues! The small simple salad had a slightly sweet, but refreshing sauce. The crispy vegetable egg roll had plenty of vegetables and a great crunch. I had to try one of the non noodle dishes, so the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork belly fit the $10.95 bill. This nice balance of flavors and textures made me smile all day :) For those who want brown rice instead of jasmine, they offer that, as well as soups, rice dishes, curries (including one with duck), and boba drinks, so Ubon can be a stopover anytime you want a taste of Thai in the middle of Torrance. read more

Stopped in for lunch after seeing positive Yelp reviews. I actually didn't know this part of the plaza existed. I usually go to Home Depot and Home Goods, which shares the same parking area. So it was a big adventure to discover this section. I noticed the restaurant had a "B" grade on the window, and I almost decided to check out the ramen place next door. But I was in the mood for pad Thai. They had an extensive menu, but I flipped to the lunch section and ordered shrimp pad Thai, which was a reasonable $9.50. It was just a dollar more than chicken, beef or pork. It came with a fresh iceberg lettuce salad and vegetable egg roll. The pad Thai was a generous portion and was prepared well. There were about 6 or 7 shrimp in it, fresh bean sprouts and some crushed peanuts on the side. I liked that they didn't mix the beansprouts or the nuts to the noodles. The interior is small and service is just ok. But if you're in the mood for inexpensive good Thai food in Torrance, check this place out. There's also free Thai iced coffee or tea with Yelp check-in! But beware there's no restroom available to customers if you drink the whole thing. Closer to a 4 than a 3. I'd go back to try other dishes. read more

Tonight I made like a baby dragon and my mouth was a little bit aflame thanks to Ubon! I was always a fan of this quaint restaurant as good Thai food is hard to come by in the South Bay. Most are mediocre with watered-down curries and ho-hum stir-fries that taste more Chinese than Thai. I hadn't been here in a long time since before the lockdown and it seems that the pandemic has actually energized the chef's creativity with a generous use of chilies--yum! Not too hot that it masks the flavor of the actual food; just spicy enough to make the diner perk up and unbutton that shirt collar. The drunken noodles were nicely slicked with that delicious oyster sauce, chilies, and a good amount of Thai basil. The green curry, my default Thai dish, was herbaceous heaven! It was rich tasting and nicely balanced without too much fish sauce. I also ordered a green bean tofu stir-fry with basil. Vegetables have a nice bite, not overcooked. I needn't make the pilgrimage to Thai Town if I can get it this good in Torrance! Other takeaways from my takeout: the young woman behind the counter was plenty nice. To start, they have a really big menu with a lot of different dishes to choose from. The prices here are reasonable and portions are large. It's well worth what you pay. I ordered the Beef Pad Thai (you can customize and get a different protein, but shrimp costs a bit extra) which was delicious. It had the perfect amount of spice and sweetness and comes with a small side of chopped peanuts and a slice of lime. The portion was so large that I was easily able to save the rest for another meal. I would've given this place 5 stars, but the service wasn't great. We had to request water twice before our server remembered to bring them out, and he never came back to check on us during our meal. It's been about 5 years since I visited this place. Visited the area for the first time since then and it's still delicious! Our party got the pad thai, pad see ew, and two other curry dishes. All dishes were served hot and fresh, with just the right amount of seasoning to flavor. The pad thai was savory and sweat, with its meats not being overly cooked compared to other places. One of the best Thai spots in Torrance. Great place to stop for lunch or dinner, perfect for takeout. They don't do anything very unique, but they don't really need to. They do everything right. The food is always fresh and full of flavor. Decent portions and well priced. Try the curried wontons for something a little different and delicious. Other than that, play the classics. Ok this is crazy because we have been here a lot. We ordered here because my wife wanted their salad, and we got spring rolls. When the food came my pregnant wife at the time was eating the spring rolls, and then she saw the plastic linings in the food. We were all shocked because they were pretty big pieces of plastic. The server was not the most helpful and defended the cooks at first. Once she actually saw the pieces in the roll, she spoke with her manager and cooking staff. I really hope that my wife didn't eat this plastic. I know this is an established place in Torrance, but please you need to be more mindful of your food, and how you prepare it. This cannot ever happen in the restaurant business. I'm a little sad because I really like their duck noodle soup, its really good for the price, but I can no longer come here because of this incident. Also the next day all three of us had food poisoning!!!! I am very concerned about this place.
