Ubon Thai is one of the local Thai places in Torrance that I like. Food wise: -The Pad Thai is very good and the noodles are a perfect level of chewy. -Basil chicken is flavorful with a bit of spicy kick and it oddly has green beans which I could live without. -Unfortunately, the Tom yum soup is bland and not recommended and chicken larb was too salty without rice. It's located in a busy plaza which usually has parking and is a small location making it a good grab and go place or quick sit down. read more

This is my go-to local Thai place, since it's closeby to home. Portions are good, I usually order the Pad Thai with chicken or Pad See Ew with beef. I usually can make 2 meals out of 1 entree order. Meat at times is a bit on the dry side. Prices are a bit higher than I'd like them to be, but seems to correlate with other comparable Thai food places in the area. Staff are nice and attentive - I've both eaten there and also ordered takeout. Phone ordering is easy and hassle free, I do it to avoid waiting for my food and simply walk in pay and pick up. Their Thai tea is also delicious - perfect ratios! Inside dining area is small and mostly has small tables, so may be hard to accommodate big groups. Parking is readily available in the shopping center lot, the immediate nook area in front of the restaurant may be packed and crowded so sometimes have to park and walk from a little further away in the lot. read more

Pretty good Thai food! We tried their Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, Papaya Salad, and Tom Yum soup. Everything was delicious but it was also SPICY. The spiciness didn't affect me too much and actually made me nostalgic of my trip to Thailand a few years back. I usually order my spicy thai fried rice. That's usually one of their best dishes. But today I wanted to try the crying tiger to go... It was not even medium rare, more so pan seared not hot at all when I ate it. The food was super cold but the rice I requested on the side. Meat had a weird smell and chewy texture. I wasn't happy at all with this dish so now I know not to get it.... Spring roll was hard as a rock and the peanut sauce was chunky.. Basically wasted 10 bucks..didn't even finish the dish and threw it out. My stomach started to hurt. I don't know if the cook changed but this isn't ubon... We ordered the Pad se Ew Beef and the Crab fried rice. Pad se Ew was so over cooked all the noodles were mushy and in tiny pieces. There was no broccoli, just some stems. Beef was nasty, bad quality chewy fatty, processed meat like the cheap Chinese restaurants and theirs prob tastes better than this junk. The Crab Fried rice was rice, eggs, and onions. Leaving 1 star reviews is not something I take lightly but when a business makes me feel like a criminal in front of other customers I take extreme offense to it. This is a restaurant that I've probably spent over 10k+ at because their food is generally decent and fast, but I will never give my business to them again. I will tell all my friends and family in the area about the experience as well. I went to pickup an order today. After waiting 5 minutes or so I was asked why I was there. I was standing in the pickup line with no other people around and I said I was here to pick up (in the line labeled pickup). The food came and the bill. I tried to pay with Apple Pay twice but their system was not working properly. The guy taking the order looked like he was clueless to what he was doing trying to get Apple Pay to take. So I got frustrated and said I'd just pay cash. I handed over a $100 bill. He looks at it funny and says it was the weirdest looking $100 bill he ever saw. He didn't hold it up to the light, check it with a pen, etc. You know, all the standard things you are trained to do to check a $100 bill. So I was told by him after consulting with his manager who had a dumbfounded look on her face that they would not accept it. Neither of them clearly knew how to check a $100 bill or probably haven't seen different versions of the $100 bill. I paid with my debit card but swore never to go back to this place again. The younger guy working there was clearly acting like he knew what he was doing but he was clearly over his head and lacked experience handling cash. The antics and language used in front of customers made me feel like a criminal and I really hope this review gets to them and they do something about it. If you feel like contributing to justice today skip this place and choose one of the other places in the area. They have the same quality if not better food. read more

Great Thai food at Torrance Crossroads! I've been here a few times and they never disappoint. The employees/service here is seriously amazing! -chicken pad thai- Always a great choice. Big portions for this dish too. It doesn't seem like a lot, but I was only able to finish half of my dish. -Crispy pork with chinese broccoli- very impressed with this dish! My fiance got this and was very impressed! He really liked the sauce it was mixed with. He actually liked the broccoli more than the pork! -Thai iced tea- a bit on the sweeter side, but still really good! Overall, great thai food. Torrance Food Crawl #102 Ubon Thai is a small restaurant with 9-10 tables but it has a comfortable feeling. One of the first things I noted was the menu, which is printed in the form of a book. There are lots of choices so it takes a few minutes to decide on your order. I tried the Chicken Satay appetizer. The chicken was not dried out and was properly cooked. There were two sauces on the side. The peanut sauce was good and the one I primarily used. The other was a sweet cucumber sauce which tasted very good but was almost too thin to use as a dipping sauce and even when spooning it on the chicken most of it runs off. My entree was the Spicy Catfish. The fish is not cut lengthwise, rather it was cut laterally creating several small 'steaks' of fish. One consequence of this was that were numerous bones which were quite numerous - perhaps every other bite found another bone. Not terrible but one just has to be careful when eating. When ordering I asked that the spice level should be mild spicy rather than full strength, which is something I'll sometimes do when ordering the first time at a restaurant that might have extremely spice dishes. The mild was indeed mild causing no watery eyes, sweating, or desire to drink something, so next time I'll probably up the spice level. The red curry sauce has a nice flavor and works well with the catfish. A side of white rice is also served with the main dish. The restaurant was clean and service was prompt. On a Sunday afternoon before the Super Bowl there were plenty of open seats so I can't really make any judgement on how crowded it can get. read more

My family came here completely unexpected. We had some errands in the area and just needed something quick to eat. We stopped in, no wait during lunch time (around 12pm) but we got lucky because it quickly filled up. They had a high chair available for my daughter. Customer service was just awesome!! I ordered a pad thai with no green onions (I'm the picky one). We also ordered a pineapple fried rice, and boat noodles. The server politely mentioned the fried rice and boat noodles had green onions and if that is okay. I was amazed at how observant and considerate this was, as many would just move on. After we ordered she brought out extra bowls and plastic utensils for our toddler (again, so thoughtful!!) Food was all very flavorful and the portions were big! We loved everything. Never have this issue with Ubon Thai. Just a few days ago, I tried the Roasted Duck Noodle Soup with Egg Noodles. OMG- the broth was amazing, light and fragrant- Umami heaven. Where was this dish all my life? The broth tastes like it had been simmering for days to be able to extract the flavor it did. I'm not sure but there is a Star Anise type flavor to it. Am trying the Boat Noodle Soup and Ubon Beef Noodle soup next. Have not been disappointed yet. The Thai Iced Tea is pretty standard. Love the 6 Pieces Shrimp in the Blanket. Found a good Thai restaurant in Torrance! I don't eat Thai food very often but after finding this place I might. What we ordered: Papaya salad: very tangy and garlicky, just the way I like it. But be warned that you'll get the garlic taste in your mouth for hours and possibly even the next day! Pad Thai: very good. But I haven't really had a bad one yet. Yellow curry: my favorite dish of the night. We got it spicy and it was soooo tasty! I would definitely order this again. I think I found my favorite Thai restaurant in Torrance! Came here for lunch today after the gym. Ordered the Drunken Noodle with Shrimp (pak kee mow) and the boyfriend ordered Pinepaple fried rice. Everything tasted so flavorful. The drunken noodle was a bit too spicy for me, I usually ask for less spicy but totally forgot about it today. It was still really good with the level of spiciness, just my tummy can't hang afterward. Price was reasonable- drunk noodle with shrimp was only $10.95 and I think the pineapple fried rice was the same price. If you check in on yelp, you will get a free Thai tea or coffee. Of course we got Thai tea! It tasted so good! Everything tastes better when is free right? =p This is our go-to spot for Thai food after discovering it couple months ago. Today was our second time coming here and will definitely coming back more often whenever we crave Thai food in Torrance. Oh and service was on point! When one of my favorite South Bay places for Thai food recently closed, I found myself on the search for a good place for Thai cuisine. Though I am often around the Torrance Crossroads area, I had never tried Ubon Thai Kitchen until recently. I came during lunch and found myself really enjoying their lunch specials. Their lunch specials come with salad, egg roll and jasmine rice. Chicken, pork, beef, tofu and mock chicken lunch specials are $8.50. Shrimp lunch specials are $9.50 My friend and I tried the chicken yellow curry as well as the crispy pork with Chinese broccoli lunch specials. When the chicken curry lunch special came out, I was very impressed with how their generous portion of curry. The chicken curry is served in a pretty big bowl. There was plenty of yellow curry sauce and chicken pieces. It was very tasty and paired well with the Jasmine rice. The crispy pork with Chinese broccoli lives up to it's name! The crispy pork is very crispy. You can tell that is freshly cooked. This dish is great to try at least once. The only thing is after awhile of eating it you, can start tasting that the pork bit is a bit salty. I enjoyed my first trip and the lunch specials here so much that I came back to get a to-go order of their Angel wings. Angel wings are my favorite Thai appetizers and they do a pretty decent job here with their Angel wings. The Angel wings they have are nice and crispy and have a good amount of ground chicken, glass noodle, carrots and cilantro inside. They give two pieces for $8.95. It's too bad they don't have a lunch special with Angel wings. Lastly I have to let everyone know that you can get a free thai tea or coffee with check in but you must spend at least $10. read more

I've been here a few times now and it's consistently good, but the portions may have become smaller... nothing raving or outstanding... it's average to me. The coconut soup here is very creamy and thick, come people may like that extra creamy soup but I like it with a little more lemon grass flavor, it's just a preference. The crispy pork dishes are good if you like pork. I almost want to give them a 3 star because they do not have bathrooms for the customers. I'm sorry that's not cool. If you are going to feed people you should allow them to wash hands in running water especially in this day of Covid and nasty flu, they have a huge hand sanitizer at the entrance, but I don't like that, and if I'm having a sit down meal then I want to have the option to use a restroom... just sayin. They told me to go to Home Goods. I hope they change that and allow customers to use their restroom. Maybe the owner will see this. The servers are very nice and attentive. I'm a major foodie and serious Thai food connoisseur. Having eaten it in all 50 states of the USA, this is hands-down the best. The top of the top! The cream of the crop. After two of my favorite Thai restaurants shut down locally due to Covid we had to start shopping around again, and we are so grateful that we found this true gem.
