Parts availability seems to be an issue for certain phones, but it appears that they communicate accurate availability times to their customers. I had an amazing experience with uBreakiFix, and particularly with Candice! Candice was super communicative and friendly throughout the process, always keeping me informed about what was going on. My laptop had been sitting around collecting dust for about a year, giving me the "blue screen of death" and an error message. I had tried to fix it myself but to no avail. Got a diagnostic priced at $60 to tell me what was wrong with my laptop. After the diagnostic, I asked them to tell me how much the replacement part costs. They said the part was $200. I asked them to tell me what part I needed so that I could supply it myself. They refused to tell me which replacement part I needed. I eventually found what part I needed and it was only $70. They wanted to charge me $200 for a part worth $70, and they refused to tell me the name of the part to try to induce me to pay almost triple the value. Unethical business practice. When you tell customers it will take two hours to fix screen of cellphone, let's try make it happen and if you see it can't, then just tell them and be upfront. Instead, we arrive after 2 hours and get told it might be another 30 minutes or it could be another hour. Let me set the scene, it's a Saturday before a snow storm and my husband works in IT and needs his phone. His phone is not just work it's also his connection to his family overseas and a health tracker for his diabetes. He took it in the morning and we got the text after 5 that it was ready for pick up and the store was closed. Next day, snow, calling store, leaving messages and emails.. will you open later today for us to pick up phone? The call center says they not on the list as a store expecting delays they should be open. We live an hour away, are you sure? One person says yes to an email I sent earlier but the person at call center says they should get back to you with a time for picking up your phone. Call in an hour if they don't call you. Over hour later, new person, we got hold of store owner who can't get anyone to open the store, they will reopen Monday at 10am. Will they? It's super bowl Sunday. Monday 10:17am store not open and one person waiting ahead of me. Why did we choose this store so far from home because 1) my husband had used them in past and a lady had helped him and things went well (other reviewers mention someone, maybe it's her); 2) they said they could fix phone screen in two hours. Between my husband and I we've had 4 iPhone screens replaced at uBreakiFix, and it's always been done fast and perfectly. New screen works as well as the originals. Well today I went in for a different issue, a new one for me! My iPhone 8's charger jack, where the little charger, or headphones, go in, wouldn't allow anything in. Battery already lower than 20% and PANICKED that I wouldn't be able to charge it and would need to get a brand new phone, I quickly went over to the store. Andy, the most pleasant and helpful employee, identified the issue as something stuck in there and was able to remove it in literally 2 minutes. Wow wow. I came in to get my phone screen protector replaced. Guy came back and it was filled with bubbles. When I mentioned the issue he shrugged, "yeah, I'm not very good at it." Go to Apple for your repairs. I had a perfectly functioning iPhone 6 for 4 years until someone knocked it out of my hands, shattering the screen. I brought it here. I ought to have walked when I got pushback on their "Price Match" policy. They eventually agreed to match, but not beat it by $5, as their website guarantees. Got it back within a few hours and when I picked it up it the screen was glitching (intermittent ghost clicks and unresponsiveness to clicks/drags). They suggested I take it home and bring it back if issues persisted, which they did. They gave it another go and now 4 months later it is once again barely usable (conveniently just out of warrantee). UBreakIFix cost me $90. Apple charges $129. Treat yourself. Upfront disclosure: I'm not a techie nor someone who craves the latest gadget. So when my 2-year-old, inexpensive ($100) smartphone died, my first instinct was "Can it be repaired cheaply?" I took it to the pleasant people at UBreak/IFix, 3510 Connecticut Ave. The answer, not surprisingly, was "Get a new phone." (Which UBreak/IFix doesn't sell, so there was no profit motive.) They told me that I had a bad habit of overcharging the battery, which was dangerously swollen (a hazard I didn't know about...don't leave your devices plugged in overnight!) and not worth replacing; removed the SIM card so that I could safely take my old phone to an e-cycler; and charged nothing. When I protested that I should pay at least a small amount, they said "No, we appreciate your business, just write a nice review on Yelp." So I am. Very friendly staff. Mostly useless service. Booked an appointment for today at 1722 7th Street (name, phone number, type of phone, issue) just to be told when I show up today I need to drive to the Cleveland Park location because my Google Pixel battery isn't stocked at the 7th street location. I go to the Cleveland Park location and essentially, they didn't fix the problem I came to them with. Namely my phone battery is overheating and causing my phone to shut off and restart dozens of times a day. Explained the problem and was told I'd need a new battery, informed of the charge for it ($79 + tax, reasonable) and told to come back in 2 hours. When I pick up my phone I walk back out to my car and before I've even started the engine the same problem is happening, "looping". I walk back into the store and am told, "hmmmm... maybe it's the motherboard." and then am told my phone is basically screwed. As I type this my phone is sitting next to me charging and has already restarted 3 times in 10 minutes. I literally can't even charge the GD thing without it overheating. Cool. Glad I just paid you $85 to fix a problem and you didn't... These "Professionals" cant even diagnose the problem. They're the Jiffy Lube of phone repair. AVOID AVOID AVOID read more
