I've been to Uchi in Dallas, and Uchiko is just as good. The ambiance is great, and the service is solid. My favorite dish was the scallop--so flavorful! We ordered the omakase, which was a great choice, and sitting at the sushi bar made it even better. I recommend the scallop or the chef's tasting menu. A few minor downsides: the sushi service was a bit slow, with long gaps between dishes. The steak came with fries, but the fries arrived separately and much later, which disrupted the flow of the meal. The gem lettuce was underwhelming and could be skipped. On the bright side, dessert was amazing--the fried milk was perfect! Overall, a great experience with just a few areas for improvement. read more

Here in Plano Tx for business and was looking for a good sushi restaurant. My Lyft driver recommended Uchiko which is in the Legacy Shopping area. Great place to shop with lots of restaurants. I sat at the sushi counter and the chef Raj took great care of me. The wait staff brought out some complimentary small dishes that we amazing. I ordered the inari maki, Ebi tempura, Nasu nigiri and kinoko nigiri all of which were fantastic. Also had the spicy tuna crunch which was some of the best I ever had. The wine selection was great and the staff were attentive. I honestly wished I lived near here bc I would come here quite a bit. The price point was more than reasonable compared to what I pay in Los Angeles. Recommend you come here if in the Dallas area. read more

Uchiko just opened up in Plano, and I was lucky enough to be able to book a reservation for their soft opening. Their soft opening deals were all the food was 50% off and selected drinks were also 50% off. I've been to uchi once, and it was just as good as uchi. Everything was fresh and delicious. It was the soft opening so there were a couple of kinks here and there, but overall it was a 10/10 experience. The workers were so nice and attentive, I honestly never had my water refilled so much and I loved it! The pace of all the food was perfect. The inside of the restaurant was very nice, it gave off a modern vjbe and I loved the decorations and natural lighting that came inside from the windows. I've been driving past the new location for the past year, just waiting for it to finally open up! I recently moved back from Houston, where I tried to visit Uchi & Uchiko as much as possible. Uchiko Plano didn't disappoint the legacy. Excellent service & staff who were incredibly friendly & efficient. The new location is aesthetically really lovely. You could tell they were still working out a few things, but that's expected with the newness. The valet setup is rather janky but free, so I can't complain too much. We did the happy hour 7-course tasting menu. Almost everything was great, except for the Steak Frites, which was incredibly tough & hard to eat. Let me start by saying, WOW. We absolutely loved Uchiko. My advice is to go between 4 - 6 PM if you can; happy hour! Instead of doing one of the Chef's Tastings (Omakase), we opted to do our own tasting. Some of the dishes that we had included Hama Chili, P-38, Edamame, Veggie Maki, Pork Belly, Foie Gras, and Maguro. Pretty much everything we had was sensational, while I will say that the Wagyu Yaki was good, but not great. Don't be afraid to explore the menu. My husband arranged my birthday dinner here on Sunday night because I love Uchi and their sushi. We've been to uchiko twice before and our experiences both times were great with Zack as our server for my son's birthday, and another young Asian girl as our server for my son's award ceremony celebration. Unfortunately, my experience Sunday night was disappointing because the service was lackluster and slow. We tried the tasting menu and the entree was steak frites, which came out at the end and not in its entirety. Both kids were starving and we realized that we needed to order 10 things all at once instead of tasting things and ordering more. In the end they were done eating their 30 pieces of nigiri but we were still waiting for our entrees. Once our entree steak arrives the frites weren't ready but we just gave up at ate the gyutoro steak, and eventually when the frites showed up our kids ate them because we had already asked for our bill. I love the Uchi line but I really wish the plano location would train all their servers to deliver the same top notch service that we got from Zack. read more

Uchiko Plano's omakase carries a reputation and a price tag ($300) that demands a commensurate experience. What we received fell embarrassingly short of both. The most glaring issue: we were explicitly told we would not be speaking with the chefs during our omakase. Fine.. except every other guest seated at the same bar was having full, engaged conversations with them. Whether this was a policy applied inconsistently or something more deliberate, it soured the entire meal. Omakase lives and dies on that human connection.. the chef's story behind each course, the eye contact when something arrives, the sense that you're being cooked for. We had none of that. The chefs never once acknowledged us. We sat three feet away from people having the experience we paid for, while ours felt cordoned off behind invisible velvet rope. The food itself was competent but uninspiring. Bland flavor profiles with no sense of risk or creativity. exactly the opposite of what you hope to encounter at this price point. Operationally, it was a mess. Dishes arrived out of sequence, wait times between courses stretched on, and drink service was slow throughout. Then came the check: $350 instead of the $300 clearly stated on the reservation. An extra $50 appeared with no explanation. It was corrected before we flagged it, and we received some complimentary items along the way! but a billing error that requires correction and goodwill gifts handed out to smooth things over are not hospitality. They're damage control. The service team, at least, was pleasant! the one above-average element of the evening. For almost $500 after drinks and tip, you're not just paying for fish. You're paying for an experience, a feeling, a story to tell. We left with none of those things. Not mad just disappointed Uchiko :( read more

Wish the Hama chili was on their happy hour menu, but I can never not order it anytime I'm at Uchi. We ordered gem lettuce, Hama chili, salmon nigiri, bluefin tartar nigiri and their wagyu nigiri off their happy hour menu. The bluefin crudo was delicious. The plan was to have a nice evening adulting in an upscale atmosphere, for our 14 year anniversary dinner. When you walk in, you have to pause to take in the interior design from the lighting over the waiting room to the bench seatings to the framed pod lights in the ceiling. The sushi bar would be a fun place to dine just to watch the sushi chefs and grill master. Victoria, our server, made us feel very comfortable and was sensitive to what was being served at our table. She came over and gave us each a spoon because she knew we wanted to scoop up the sauce. Okay, the dishes. They were all so good. Not only the freshness in each bite and a lot of thought was placed on the texture in each bite. Ordered the 9-course omakase tasting menu during happy hour. The previous time I ordered this, I though they short-changed me and did not get the full 9 courses. I wasn't paying attention so I let it slid. This time, I was suspicious and took a picture of every course. After 5 courses, they said I had received the full 9, which I did not and showed them the pictures. Had to ask to see a manager multiple times and waited over 20 minutes for Amir to show up. He backed tracked and offered me additional courses as well as a discount on the meal and a gift card for the next time. I wasn't satisfied and asked to speak to the assistant general manager, Haley, who was present at the place. She never came and never called me afterwards ( as the manager said she would). Extremely disappointed by the, what I believe, dishonestly of the place, the poor service, and lack of promised follow-up. Overall, everything was good. The food was so good and the drinks as well. The chef who did our omakase was good as well. However, our waiter was not that great. He greeted us in the beginning then he disappeared. We had to get another waitress to help us then another person to help us with the check. Uchiko lived it up to the reputation of its sister restaurants! Inari and Hotate Makimono were stellar and classic uchi staples like Karaage and Kinoko Nabe were just as good as usual. The gem lettuce salad was not as well-loved as Uchi salad but the oysters were a great new dish to try. Asparagus, tiger roll, and crunchy tuna roll were not our favorites. We have been waiting patiently for Uchiko to open its doors after having Uchi last year and absolutely loving the entire experience . And let's be clear - Uchi is an EXPERIENCE. There is thought put into every single detail - from the moment you walk in until you step out . My fiance and I grabbed the omakase because ( if you're super indecisive and a foodie like me ) - it's a great way to be able to try a little bit of everything . While I don't remember everything we got, I'll touch on what I do remember . The Tsurai drink is DANGEROUS - tastes so refreshing . Next thing you know, you're three deep . lol . The sunomono cucumber salad was delicious . I know we ended up having the Madai , the hot octopus dish ( delicious ) , and a few other nigiri and sashimi . The dessert was the cheesecake - which was amazing . Our server, Athena, was a sweetheart . Overall, a great date night with some delicious food . slightly delayed review: unsure if the negative points i'm gonna make are still indicative: we went for their soft opening so it was PACKED. That didn't stop our server from being very, very kind and friendly however. he was really knowledgable and helped us with our order, even though he was helping like a ton of other tables. it was very busy so the food took a long time to come out; we sat there for about 2.5 hours and the last dish came out in the last 10 minutes after we persistently asked for the status of it. my favorite thing was actually eggplant nigiri, it was so smooth and sweet and hit all the right notes that i wish i didn't get it at the very end and instead had that for everything lol! the rice didn't hit for me, it was too soft and tasted like i could've made it at home with my regular rice cooker without that sushi vinegar and harder bite that sushi rice should have. if this was made correctly, it would've elevated everything we ordered by that much more. for the price point i would expect better sushi rice. because it was so busy and bustling, the waiter misheard about two of our orders, and it was already so far along the wait time that we didn't want to send it back and wait more etc. it is beautiful inside however and i hope that they've found their groove since i've been. i need to go back and get more of that eggplant nigiri :) read more

Absolutely stunning experiences here! The food is incredible. I have yet to have an item I haven't been completely in awe of. After 3 visits in one week while trying many different things each visit, I can confidently say this is some of the best bites you'll find in the area. The flavors of all the dishes are well balanced & exciting. Obviously I haven't had a chance to try everything on the menu, and keep in mind I'm only able to eat cooked meats at the moment, but truly I have yet to be let down. A couple of my favorites that I won't remember the exact names of - there's a beef nigiri type of dish that's INCREDIBLE. The beef strips are perfectly cooked and topped with beautifully simple sauce + wasabi, placed on the perfect amount of rice. Next, the beef & shrimp dumplings. They come with a Thai curry-like sauce that I would literally drink as a soup. It has just the right amount of spice kick to be enticing to the palette but not hot enough to upset you. Even though there are MANY other delicious items, I have to recommend two more. The fried chicken - just trust me. It's perfect & you'll want it 3x a week (this is personally proven) And the cereal & milk as dessert. (Please just trust me as there are no words to accurately depict how delicious this is - obviously if I had them, I'd write them) I know I'm droning on but I wouldn't be giving you the full picture without telling you that the bar is our favorite spot to be because the service is outstanding. We've received some of the best recommendations and HONEST recommendations- literally ever. The staff is all incredibly hospitable and also, truly experiential. Cam has been our main bartender every time we've been and we already feel like regulars that can't wait to get back. On top of that, he makes incredible drinks and has even concocted me some really wonderful mock tails! + their selection of Japanese whiskey is wonderful & Mike can give a knowledgeable recommendation! The whole place feels like a moody, beautiful & high-end restaurant that has a more down-to-earth feel that makes you feel welcome & somehow expected. Cannot say enough good things about Uchiko (clearly) and I think anyone who loves great food, great service, and fantastic drinks, should get on down to Uchiko as soon as physically possible. read more

We went to try out Uchiko two Fridays ago. The waiter was friendly and we decided to order a bunch of different plates to share between the four of us. He asked if we wanted to course it out or just bring out whatever was ready. We said to bring out whatever was ready , but not realizing all the food would literally all come out at the same time ! Maybe it was our fault but we almost felt like we had to scarf down the food so fast because we ran out space at our table and the food was coming out so fast. Some dishes were good like the namahotate and shima aji were good, however some of the other dishes need a bit of refinement. Almost all of the hot and cold tastings were overly sauced and salty. I was chugging water all night ! The yokai berry was good but had too much sauce so it made it soggy and salty. The pork belly wasn't bad. Shrimp tempura was okay. We ordered the gem lettuce but also nothing interesting. Brussels sprouts were good but again , too salty and saucy making it soggy. We were going to order the salmon but our waiter said it was the worst item on the menu and recommended the hearth roasted lobster instead. The lobster was actually not fresh and was squishy in texture and also ... yes, salty. Toward the end of dinner we ordered more scallop sushi (the only thing we really liked ) and dessert. We waiting for a long while , almost 30 min. Which was odd since earlier in the night the dishes were coming out non stop when they were busy. But toward end of the night , the restaurant emptied out and then the 4 pieces of sushi and 2 desserts took 30 min or longer to come out , which was annoying and weird. We ordered the milk and cereal and strawberry okashi for dessert. Milk and cereal was fine, tastes like it always does , but the mochi in the other dessert was not great in texture. We have been to Uchi several times so we are familiar with most of the dishes. But it was definitely lacking the finesse that should be associated with the Uchi brand. Disappointing for an almost $400 meal. Unsure if we would return. read more
