Person was nice who took my order. Take out menu different than inside menu. It seems more expensive since ala carte and no lunch special or set menu. The udon fries was suggested by a friend but I'll pass on that since it was too salty for me. The udon and tempura was tasty but better to eat in the restaurant for better prices.

Perfect udon. Al dente texture , delicious light broth. Just want sh they had one with natto or ume and wakame. I guess the m just missing Jimbos.

What a little gem! I mean, it's the kind of place only locals frequent because of the location. Super friendly greeting when we walked in. We opted for the bar since it was just the two of us. K has been here before so no surprise they knew him. I didn't know what to order so I decided on the curry rice mini udon set. We also got the torched mackeral appetizer and a pork shabu salad. Great way to start our meal. The curry with chicken was delicious and really hit the spot. The small udon was a nice compliment! Next time though, I will get a full udon set. The pitcher of Sapporo was nice and cold, just the way I like it! The whole staff was great! Looking forward to coming back! Mahalo Yonpachi!

After working out at the gym for nearly two hours, we cleaned up and changed into clean streetwear, then wanted to eat comforting Asian noodles or lighter lunch entrees. My husband suggested having soup noodles at a Chinese restaurant in Kapahulu's Market City. Still, McCully's Udon Yonpachi struck my fancy more because I remembered reading an article written in Honolulu Magazine's October 2025 newsletter, about their silky, slurpy yet chewy udon noodles and lighter izakaya-style dishes. Plus, we could get to Udon Yonpachi faster since it's closer to our gym than Kapahulu. When we arrived, there were several open parking spaces in the private, shared parking lot in front of the restaurant on McCully Street. Upon entering the restaurant, we were surprised to find it wasn't busy at all, and the female server welcomed us with a hearty "irrashaimase!" And motioned to us to sit anywhere in the restaurant. She quickly brought over the menus and asked if we wanted any beverages besides iced water. While she left to bring us glasses of water, more hungry diners entered, and we chuckled about getting our lunch order in quickly as the restaurant filled. Our server was friendly and offered to explain the lunch menu since this was our first visit, but we figured out what we wanted and ordered before the larger groups who had just entered the restaurant could. FOOD: -Niku Kinkorojiru Tsuke Udon Set: I was attracted to this Tsuke udon set because I enjoy eating dipping noodles. I could see from the menu photo that this set would be healthy, delicious, and generously portioned. I chose chicken as my protein source instead of pork to be added to the clear, umami-tasting beef and dashi broth, along with earthy, nutty shimeiji mushrooms, fried tofu (aburaage), and other tasty ingredients. The in-house-made, room-temperature (not icy chilled) udon sat on a bamboo mat (takesudare) within a larger bowl. Side dishes included a tossed green salad, kinpira gobo, asazuke (lighly pickled vegetables), and a scoop of mixed rice. The broth remained steaming hot even as I dipped the noodles into its bowl. $21 -Shrimp Tempura Udon Set: my husband selected this menu item as he was drawn to "tempura shrimp" or deep-fried shrimp. The battered, deep-fried large shrimp were delicate, crisp, and airy, but my husband regretted not asking to have them served separately, since the bottoms of the airy shrimp tempura, which were touching the broth, got soggy. However, the shrimp meat was tender and succulent. The clear, steaming-hot broth was clean-tasting, not overpoweringly seafood-flavored, and umami-rich, yet didn't detract from the delicate shrimp. Of course, the silky yet chewy in-house-made udon was luxurious when slurped from the bowl of hot broth. His lunch set also included a mini salad, kinpira gobo, asazuke (lightly pickled vegetables), and a scoop of mixed rice. $22.50 We were impressed with Udon Yonpachi and would love to return for their izakaya dishes and sake for dinner.

Finally stopped at Udon Yonpachi for lunch and I'm pretty sure I found my new favorite curry udon on the island. I ordered the curry udon as a lunch set and it was dialed in -- the curry was the perfect consistency (not too thick, not too runny) with a bold, comforting flavor that actually hits. My wife got the Nikujiru tsuke with mushrooms and that was also super good -- rich, savory, and really satisfying. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel easy, welcoming & casual. Only heads up: the parking lot is tiny, so plan accordingly. Overall, definitely a repeat spot for me. I'll 100% be back.

Goodbye to 2025, this will probably be my last review unless I try something new tomorrow. I don't see any place for reservations so got here before 11am and stood in line like the old fashioned way. Parking is limited and shared between Territorial Savings and another Japanese takeout next door. It seems like dinner time maybe more ideal for parking since Territorial Savings is closed. I got the dipping in Udon with pork/mushroom flavor since that's what this place is known for. I kind of wish it was in soup instead of dipping. Flavor was good though. It was a set lunch with some rice. Not sure why we need more starch when Udon is a starch. But I did like the Gobo, salad, and some Ume flavored pickled veggies. Excellent service and lively vibe. I hope to return and try their regular Udon.

Udon is the slurps... I've been wanting to give this newbie a visit though giving it some time to settle is nice so the the newness can settle with that I still feel the newness of this place and you can find them right on one of the busiest spot McCully Street can be stressful as the parking is right front of the restaurant getting out can be hard during the busy traffic time. We arrived just at opening in fact was worried about parking and arrive early to grab a stall and found it nice inside with lots of holiday decor along with some Japanese decor which felt quite cluttered giving it more of an izakaya vibe the staff is nice and friendly greeting us and getting us started but seem a little unsure with some of the items. I did get something that I normally don't see is "Spicy Niku Kinoko Jiru Tsuke Udon) ya that's it but it's spicy with beef and mushrooms and tsuke is to dip so my noodles was plain and the sauce had all the goodies in them along with the spicy seasoning right on top...mixing mix mix and dip it was a nice chewy bite like sanuki udon a thick and mochi texture bite as dipping just one noodle at a time was a sufficient bite. Kitchen is fast and efficient and the staff was nice and kept our water coming as this cozy spot was nice and I do love udon so you know I will be back. Thank you!

Negitoro/Udon Set

I'm generally not an udon person, but it was cold and rainy, so hubby and I wanted something soupy. We got there a little after 6pm on a Friday night. Plenty of parking, as you can also park at CPB parking lot. Service was great. We got seated quickly. Able to order right away, without being rushed. I had the negitoro don/udon set. It was good. I wouldn't say outstanding, but again, I'm not an udon person. They do specialize and make they're own udon. I definitely can tell it's fresh. Hubby loves his curry, so he ordered that. He said it was okay. Again, not the best, but they specialize in udon, not curry. All that being said, I was going to give them 3 stars, but gave them an extra star because of my lack of expertise in udon. Plus I enjoyed the ambience. There was a Japanese couple, sitting next to us who were regulars. That said a lot.

Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Located on the busy main street of McCully, one can't help but notice this new restaurant that used to be an izakaya. Udon Yonpachi has about five parking stalls right in front. After hours, feel free to park in the stalls that belong to the bank., We arrived a little before the 5pm dinner hours, so we beat the rush. We didn't have a reservation on a Tuesday evening. Service was efficient, polite, and attentive. Our water glasses were filled several times without needing to ask. I ordered the Curry Udon... it was perfect! The meat was thinly sliced, the noodles were chewy, and the curry wasn't spicy, but very flavorful! I would go back again! This cozy place was bright, clean, and nicely decorated!

Bouncy delicious house-made udon! What's not to love? We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday before noon and the restaurant was already almost full. Fantastic set lunch menu with multiple options to customize your bowl. I had the pork and mushroom bowl. My dining partner in crime had the chicken and mushroom bowl. The broth is deep and rich with umami and a hint of sweetness. Service is efficient and friendly! The interior will make you feel like you are in Japan. Udon Yonpachi will definitely be a frequent stop for us. I'm excited to try some of their other items.

Got invited for lunch today and it was good. I had the shrimp tempura udon Set comes with shrimp tempura udon, furukake rice, gobo, vegetable salad and pickle tsukamono. My husband and brother had curry udon set one ordered the pork curry and my brother had chicken. Nadine also had the shrimp tempura udon set. Everything was good. Thank you Nadine for the recommendation of this place. Friendly staff and always filling our glasses with water

Udon fries

The nikujiru kinoko tsuke udon is cold udon served with a hot dipping broth filled with a delicious mixture of your choice of pork or chicken (I went with chicken) , fried tofu, green onion, shimeji, and shitake mushrooms. The broth is flavorful and the udon is perfectly soft and chewy. We also ordered the udon fries which sounded intriguing but I wasn't a fan of the crispy udon texture and much rather have it served with broth. Worth the try though if you're looking for something different!

Thanks auntie Nadine .C for recommending this restaurant located corner of Young St. and Mccully. Very tasty and reasonable I ordered their curry Udon set . Comes with chicken or pork Curry Udon along with a toss salad and a small bowl of rice with some Japanese radishes. Service was friendly and efficient ordered and our meals and it came out pretty quick. Next time I probably ordered their shrimp tempura udon my sister ordered it and it looked delicious. They also have a Izakaya dinner menu as well looked delicious with all kinds of sides appetizers. Will definitely be back . Support local

The space is small, so there can be a wait, but don't let that discourage you. The restaurant is mostly bar seating, and people tend to order, eat, and head out, so the turnover is surprisingly quick. It's not really a spot for large groups, but that's part of its charm. One thing you absolutely have to order is the salad. I know it sounds strange to get excited about shredded cabbage, but it's actually the yuzu dressing that is incredible. It strikes the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and citrusy flavors in a way that I've never had anywhere else. Unfortunately, it's homemade. And I'm still thinking about it. Let's not skip over the main attraction - the bowls! It was my 3 year old's first time having macaroni salad and she enjoyed it. The chicken was fried perfectly. I dont understand how the panko breading can be so light and airy yet crispy! I really wish they would include miso soup for the kids meal. specialty kurobuta pork loin ($49/set): Decided to go foward with the fanciest pork they have. Again this is perfectly fried with a light and airy breading which is what makes a meal here so special. The set meal comes with unlimited cabbage, and miso soup. All of the flavor comes from the tonkatsu sauce. You get sesame seeds that you crush up in a bowl and add the tonkatsu sauce to it. The pork was good but it didnt blow my mind. Unfortunately my cut had a lot of fat. i dont like chunky chewy fat but others who order this may expect it. My husband had a cut with less fat so i enjoyed his pieces more. I think i could have gone with regular pork loin and prob cant tell the difference if fat is one of the factors. I would love to go back and try the tenderloin cut. Service: we made reservations. the woman helping us was very nice and kind to my kids. She did forget to bring us a high chair but thats not a problem. Environment: very small space as you can see in images. When we came it was 80% families with small children at around 1pm. It makes sense because kids eat fried chicken tenders. thats why we were there haha. Food was cooked perfectly and my kids loved their meal. So overall 5 stars.

I liked the standard rice and seaweed rice the most, and also the white miso soup with tofu & seaweed the most. The pork tenderloin katsu sandwich was pretty good, bread was toasted and there was a good amount of sauce with the katsu. Jyukusei pork loin katsu was good too. The sizzling plate miso sauce pork loin katsu set wasn't my favorite because I felt like the miso sauce made the breading soggy fast. We weren't the biggest fans of the chicken cheese katsu set either, the cheese was really intense and overpowering.
