Peter of UL Roofing was the highest of three bids to replace my roof in San Francisco, but was only $2,000 more than the cheapest bid and his approach gave me the most confidence -- so I chose to contract him. He said he would be working on the roof himself and on-site every day; he described the job in much greater detail than other bids, and explained where my trouble spots were located; and he spent much more time photographing the repairs needed. By contrast, the middle priced bid simply surveyed everything with a drone, and didn't even go on the roof (that was an immediate red flag). The cheapest bid gave very little detail on the condition of the roof, and simply submitted the bid. At any rate, he completed the job according to the projected timeline (5 days) and the final bill was only $300 more than the original bid (some wood needed to be replaced, which is standard and explained up front). He and his crew also did my neighbor's roof three weeks later, and by all accounts, he is happy too. The one negative: The work around the skylights created some mess inside the home interior -- unavoidable, but a warning would have been nice. read more

We worked with Peter & his team after moving into our new home in the Sunset and discovering after a winter of heavy rain that our roof had a lot of small leaks and was overdue for replacement. Despite being very busy with the heavy rain, Peter responded quickly and gave us a good quote, his fair, thorough, & organized assessment stood out compared with other roofing providers so we went with him fairly quickly. A few months later during the summer he & his team replaced the roof within a week, working quickly & efficiently. During the replacement he discovered some water damage that he quoted to repair at a very reasonable price. He also proactively suggested we integrate solar panel stanchions since he knew we were planning on getting solar. We were very happy with the resulting roof & experience. Our roof has a lot of small clay tile detail areas that are detached from the main roof. The following winter we saw some remaining small leaks and let Peter know. We interviewed several roofing companies to replace the existing flat portion of our roof along possible shingle replacement. Peter was very timely, knowledgable and professional. We also wanted to consider replacing our center patio corrugated cover with a skylight as well as the one over our bathroom light well. Peter and his team cleaned up at the end of each day. The completed center patio skylight needed extra ventilation as well as an assessment with morning mist water getting through the frame. Highly recommend this company and not only for the quality of the work, but for the fact the owner, Peter Choung, is there with his guys all day to ensure the highest quality control. I live a couple blocks from the beach in the outer sunset, where aluminum turns to dust and galvanized metal completely rusts through within 20 yrs, and Peter was able to offer copper roof flashings, bronze skylights, as well as all the other vents for my roof made out of copper. I also had solar installed just after the roof was completed, and Peter did not charge me extra for waiting for the solar company to install the mounts, as well as the added work of sealing the copper flashings that go around the solar supports. I had a lot of delays due to another siding project that had to be completed first, and Peter had no issue rescheduling me back to a time for me to finish the other project (twice). Another item that sets UL Roofing apart from other roofing work that I've seen done, was the fact they wrapped and sealed my cast iron plumbing vent pipes to stop further corrosion.
