Totally disappointed with the order I received today. The website said the shampoo I wanted was in stock at the Bolingbrook store. Drove all the way over there to find out "the website is not updated" and the shampoo was not in stock. So they ordered 2 bottles for me with free shipping. I received the order today and it was a hot mess. The shipping envelope was sub-standard and inappropriate for the product. The top broke off one of the bottles, leaking shampoo everywhere. The package was completely saturated, and my mailbox was filled with shampoo. I have learned my lesson; if the product is not in the store, do not buy it under the guise of "free shipping." Ulta, please pay attention to these reviews. I'm not the only one who has experienced issues with your shipping and packaging. read more

This is one of the larger-sized Ulta stores which I love, love, love! I always spend at least $50 when I go in.........LOL As far as their salon, I always look over there, but never have the urge to get a haircut there...........I don't need to pay over $30 for a trim, and their stylists did not make me want to go over there and get one either. Some of the staff in the store are helpful, but some are just kinda snobby if you ask me........but that is expected at such a store I guess. LOL Anyway, Ulta is absolutely wonderful for the products, and have great rewards if you sign up for a membership and shop there often! In desperate need of a hair cut and not wanting to drive to Mario in Oakbrook, I took a gamble on the Ulta Salon and I'm glad I did. A little back story, in July I got a free haircut for being a hair model and the woman seriously jacked up my hair. 6 months later, I'm still trying to get it straightened out. Enter Tanya at Ulta Salon. She could immediately see what was wrong and told me how we could fix it. So I trusted her, and it is getting better. It doesn't look as choppy and it looks more like a hairstyle now then a hack job. I made my 3rd appointment with her in February today and I cannot wait to see what she does with it. read more

Ordered $90+ worth of cosmetics from them online. Took a week to arrive for the 1st item and the 2nd never arrived. Spent 38 min on hold with their service rep (because they don't provide you with a way to handle cs online or by email). 1st package had a ton of wasteful packaging. Not sure why they didn't send order in one box anyway. 2nd package finally arrived but then didn't include the gift items promised. I called again and rep told me that they don't give you anything (not even a substitute gift) if their supplies run out. Went to a physical store with order printout to see if I could get my gift, and store clerk told me that the online and physical stores are separate - argh. So bait and switch/false advertising -- to lure you in to buy an item with a gift that they don't order enough of to meet demand. The whole experience was subpar and I'm running back to Sephora (fast deliveries, great gifts, they ask for your feedback right after you get the package via email + awesome online customer service). I went to the ulta in Bolingbrook About a week ago to get help with my acne problems, I've been dealing with it for the last 7 months. When I was greeted I immediately asked for someone to help, the girl who was at the cashier was kinda rude and threw another worker to help me. The new worker was named Maddie and she helped me with finding the right products, she informed me that she was in beauty school and helped me with identifying the cause of my acne. She recommended dermalogica starter kit and proactive toner. She even told me about all the different facials you can get at ulta and how that would be a good start to help my acne problems. I can definitely say she was more than helpful and definitely more knowledgeable than some of her coworkers who asked to listen in on the conversation so they could learn more. Overall a really good experience at that location. read more

The general manager Megan was very rude to me and my friends who made us feel very uncomfortable. She would not let me use my employee discount because it made her feel "uncomfortable" and she didn't believe that I was an employee whatsoever even though I provided a valid ID and my rewards number. As I was processing the payment she told me I couldn't pay anymore as the money already left my account. She was very condescending and rude. I will never go back to this Ulta again!!! read more

I'm a huge makeup lover , Ulta is like my playground . I love checking in on all the new pallets and get suggestion and tips from the girls working . Last week I got a pallet that was really cute it had all the best summer bronze colors it was kinda pricey but I loved it so price didnt matter , today only a week later I pushed my brush into it to put it on and it completely cracked and ruined the pallet I was really Sad . I decided I would call Ulta and see if They could do anything for me . Ariane was the manager on duty at the time and said I could bring it in and she would replace my existing one :) . I work 15 hour days both Friday and Saturday so she said she would put it behind the counter and hold it for me until Monday night . I would really like to take a moment to let your company know how fantastic she was I was Ecstatic she did that for me! Ariane was very friendly and knowledgable . I ended up leaving work early Friday night so I was able to pick it up . I bought to more items that night Kay because I was so pleased with what she did for me . I had been calling around for my daughter to have semi-Permanent hair color put in. When I called Ulta, whoever I spoke to was very professional and seemed like she was interested in and cared about what I wanted done. I had such a great feeling. However, when I brought my daughter (she's 13)to her appointment, the stylist told me that we couldn't get that color style. That was ok, but I asked for opinions, and it was really a disappointment. It didn't seem that any of the stylists had any opinions or help at all. My daughter had been looking forward to this for two weeks. I must say that my initial review of the salon was going to be 1-star. They seem to have a wide range of experience in their stylists. I called and made an appointment (available the same day). But it seems that most of the youngest stylists are the ones answering the salon phone and take the appointments - unless you specifically request an appointment with someone else. My stylist seemed like she was asking the right questions, and I thought had made it clear what I was looking for - but alas... no so much. I was going from shoulder-blade length to just touching my shoulders. It took her 3 tries to get the general length what I wanted. Then asked if I liked the 'flippy' look at the ends - I said yes, but then she didn't do anything to the ends to give them that look. It looked OK when she finished - although after she dried it, there were a few sections where she noticed small sections that weren't the same length as the rest, so she fixed those. Then when I arrived home - I found a few more sections that were inches longer than the rest. You can tell if you get a newer stylist because they have a flyer attached to their cards saying that they're $10 off the usual haircut price ($40). So, I called and spoke with a manager - Kim. She said I could come back in and she would look at it and re-cut to what I was looking for. So, I went back in and she really did it right. She really checked my hair out, and said that for the cut that I wanted, because of my fine hair, she was going to razor cut it. I love the new cut - and will definitely go back to her to keep it up. I know I'll be paying a bit more for her expertise... but I think it's worth it. So, if you have a simple style, or relatively low expectations - set an appointment with anyone there. But if you want to be sure you'll get what you want - make sure you get a more experienced stylist. read more

I don't think I've ever really spent any time in Bolingbrook, besides a one time trip to IKEA several years ago. However, I had a bunch of errands to run after getting my hair done in nearby Lisle, so my stylist suggested I got to nearby Bolingbrook to hit all the stores I wanted to hit. This ULTA was really nice. The whole strip mall -maybe strip mall is too crass a word -it was a like a fancy, upper class "strip mall" -I'm sure there 's some new vocabulary word to describe it....anyway, this whole "upscale outdoor shopping structure" is really nice. Really pretty. The ULTA itself was really nice -I found so many things that were on my list (um, too many) but left happy that I could go home and use all my new products! Oh, and once you get on the mailing list / join the rewards club, you get some fabulous offers. I had a 20% coupon off my entire purchase so I saved a bunch of money! My review is based on my experience in the Salon at Ulta. I am a DIY girl. For years I have dyed my own hair. I had the perfect shade of red...but since I was using box color I was destroying my hair. I used to have LONG hair...now it breaks off at my shoulder. It is fried and sad. I started to wear extensions to cover the damage while I try to get my hair healthy again. Stephanie is a hair goddess. She knows how to dye my hair so that I am getting the color I want without the damage from the box color. I bring her my extensions to dye to match too. Any problems I have had she has fixed immediately. Hair color really is a science...especially when someone has damaged hair like I do. I recommend Stephanie at the Salon at Ulta to anyone. If there was a possibility of giving zero stars, i would! I've been meaning to review this ulta location for the past few years, but past year has left me feeling terrible each time i leave the store. There are so many issues here, I'll list them a. The employees at this location have left me feeling with a sense of racism. For the past year, i could be aimlessly walking up and down the aisles and no one has ever approached me or yet greeted me, yet whenever there is another shopper around they greet them. As an American-Muslim woman i have felt targeted at this ulta. B. I have to struggle to find an employee to help me, and when they irritatingly find the product, they walk away without a word. This has happened about a good 10 times now. C. Needless to say customer service is terrible! D. Few months ago, i asked for assistance with a Tarte product, one of the floor employees pushed it off to another person, who after a few minutes informed me that someone should come out to help me. Out came an employee, halfway chewing food and some snacks stashed in her fist. Without any apologies she continued to be rude and oh, never helped me! E. Todays experience was cherry on top! I asked an employee to assist me in finding the Laura gellar highlighter. The space for the testers was empty. I told her i saw the product in the new ad, she went to check it out and didn't return for a good 5 minutes. I FOUND THE TESTER for one of the products. When i asked her that i would like to see the other color, she told me theres no tester. I told her that i need to see the product, she opened a new box and as i edged over to try it, she pulled away as if i was vomiting on her. I understand that there are certain protocols to make testers but instead of using her words , she pulled away as if i was going to steal it. I told her i didn't like it, and i want to look for few different ones, SHE WALKED AWAY! I walked down each prestige makeup aisle, not one employee asked if i needed help. I could hear the employee 'who helped me,'yapping away with a Caucasian customer all the while being friendly. Her and another employee were venting away just 2 steps away from me and this employee still didn't ask if i found my product or if i needed help. Instead these two discussed their previous employers and about how ," at my old job people used to pee in the tanning beds... guys would go crazy and have some fun in there..." F. I asked the cashier to call the manager and it felt like time froze, she stopped ringing me, paused, called for the general manager, and stared dead past me at the employees. The manager came but her priority seemed that the other customers shouldn't hear what i have to say. As i was speaking, she began talking to her employee to take the cash register 2 places away from me. I will take action and report this location to every authority and board for not only what I've been through at this ulta location, but also the duplicate service my friends and family have received here as well. This feels like direct discrimination! They have lost me as a customer and i will make sure my women's committees which in combination are over 300 women in the area also break away from this ULTA altogether. read more

Don't go to the salon here. I tried it 2 times. The girl the first time I went to was great. Tried to rebook with her the 2nd time and she no longer worked there. So I got a dude who called himself the Asst Mgr. This guy took 4 hours to highlight my already blonde hair. He said he used to be a cosmetology teacher. It was his first day on the floor there and apparently no supervisor to check his work. Clearly he had zero idea what he was doing and it turned out totally jacked up. Pretty upset to see some of the tenured staff didn't bother to step in during the course of my visit. I then went to Czar across the street to have them fix it. It's really worth the money to go to a credible salon. I'll never recommend anyone to go to Ulta for hair services. read more

Horrible!!! I spent almost $200 to have my hair hacked up all to hell. It's been almost 2 months and it still looks like complete shit. I can't even wear it down, can barely put it up in a bun because the stylist took so much hair out that there is hardly anything left to work with. I have curly, shoulder length hair and wanted to get a root touch up with some highlights. I also needed my ends point cut or thinned out to avoid he dreaded triangle look that happens with curly hair. The woman who did my hair proceeded to slice out so much that my hair from the mid section to the ends is barely existent. Someone should take the scissors away from this girl because she clearly doesn't know how to cut hair. Will never waste my money here again. read more

The store is nice. They have a wide variety of hair and beauty products so you're bound to find something to buy even it's something you hadn't intended on buying or don't need. The only problem is that their products are kinda high... Anyway, a big contributor to my 3-star review is the nail salon. I came to try their OPI no-chip manicure during the $25 special. They didn't have a wide variety of colors and they don't do french. But I chose the one that I thought was the best... Long story short, they're not all that professional here. However, my manicure was pretty good and I was a walk-in so I didn't expect too much. But two days later my nail chipped (manicure is supposed to last up to two weeks). So I came in and was helped after waiting again. A different girl fixed my nail and I appreciated that. But guess what? Today that same nail is chipped again! Idk if they're doing a bogus job or if OPI is falling off. But I did my normal activities just as I had with my previous no-chip manicures and had never had a problem, at least not this soon. I didn't know this location had a salon, maybe because it's hidden somewhere in the back? I do love how big this store is!!!!~ It's got such a variety of products. Anything from hairspray, lipstick, to foundations... and the brands. I love the benefit line and this location is the one that got me hooked on a few key products to my beauty regimen. The employees are always helpful and friendly. I almost always prefer when they have the testers out. Definitely my favorite Ulta around. read more

Beware. Frequent shopping from the company earns points toward future rewards so you feel inclined to purchase all your cosmetics and beauty needs from the knee company. While only a minimum and fair purchase amount is a requirement the company can "accidentally" disable the points when you attempt to redeem them. Coincidentally this may happen when you attempt to use the points during already reduced price / sale items. This "error" may take 14 days to resolve taking you past the sale date. Sale prices will not be honored after the corrections are made. Customer agents email non related issues to waste time ensuring the issues resolved exceeds sale date. read more

This review is not for a particular store, it is a negative review for the company in general. Today, I went to buy some stuff online intending to use my reward points. I discovered that 48 points expired 18 days ago, a mere 18 days ago. I called customer service, twice. Both times, the "customer service" representative told me that they could not reinstate my points. I asked to speak to a supervisor. The first time I got disconnected. The second time I was told no one was available. I contacted the company via e-mail. Amy in Guest Services responded the same... she refused to re-instate my rewards points. The rewards points are equivalent to about $2.50. What horrible customer service to refuse to reinstate $2.50 worth of points because they expired 18 days ago. Obviously, this is a matter of principal at this point, but I am so turned off to this company now. So stupid on their part... if my points had been reinstated, I would have made another purchase, giving the company more money in their bank. Such a stupid, customer unfriendly policy! read more

I finally did it. I actually went to a real salon instead of Bo Ricks and using bottle dye. I was beyond impressed with the level of service I received here. Nina, who is now my stylist (whoa, sounds weird coming out of my mouth!) was really cool. She custom mixed my new color (which is this ultra jet black, very shiny, and when I'm in the sun it has an indigo tint to it- I love it!). Not only did she give me an awesome style, she was very honest with every stupid hair question I had to throw out to her. And when it came time for the bill (I never asked before hand) I was ready to shell out anything for the spectacular service I received, but the total for cut, full color, style, shampoo, and deep condition treatment was only $115! And the store itself was filled with every cosmetic, hair product and perfume I could possibly imagine. Not only do they only offer salon services, they also offer waxing, facials, and makeup application! A definite stop for all of the above before I walk down the aisle! read more

This Ulta location used to be my favorite, I'd spend every other weekend browsing here and picking up something new. But in the past few months, they've gone down hill a lot. First, they reorganized the way the store was laid out. It was fine the way it was, but now it seems like if you're searching for an item or trying to compare similar items, you have to bounce back and forth across the store. Second, I always went there for the Benefit brow bar. The first employee I met there, Noelle, did an amazing job with my brows. If I said I wanted a high-drama high arch, she did it. If I said I wanted a more full casual look, she did it. They fired her, and while the girl there now, Aimee, isn't bad, she doesn't have the same skill with my brows as Noelle. There's another aesthetician that works the brow bar too, but every time I see her, she looks like she hates being there so I've never used her services. The final straw that makes me write this review was an event they did in October. You donate to their breast cancer fund and can get either a free haircut or mini-facial. Obviously, because it was free, it was packed, I get that. I'm not here to complain about something for free. I'm here to complain about their customer service process. So they give everyone who donated a number, mine was 51, and they call you over the intercom. I opted for the mini-facial, so the wait was longer than for a haircut, they said about 40 minutes, that's totally okay with me. I started to get an inkling that things were not right when they were inconsistent about the way they called, sometimes just the number, sometimes just the name, sometimes both. Regardless, I browsed the store for over an hour, listening to other names/numbers/both being called, but all for haircuts. When I finally approached the desk and asked what was going on and told them my number, she looked at me incredulously, flipped through her book, whispered to the aesthetician, and defiantly replied, "You missed your number, it will be another 15 minutes." When I explained that missing my number was not possible because I was in the store the entire time, she said "Well you must have, but its only a short wait." Exasperated, I said to forget it and just give my place up in line, she insisted for a third time "I don't know what to tell you, you missed your number, but its only a short wait, are you sure?" Its not about the wait. 15 minutes is not a long time, its not about that. You are seriously going to tell me not once or twice, but 3 times that I missed my number, when I was standing less than 100 feet away at any given moment for the past hour and your number calling system was all kinds of messed up? I complained on their website and, to their online department's credit, I got a response right away tell me that the salon manager would be calling me. Nothing. No calls, no voicemails, nothing. After waiting weeks, I sent another e-mail and got another fast reply only to be told that the manager called me and wanted a different contact number. I only have one phone number, how could possibly have been unable to contact me? Needless to say, I'm going to have to find a different place to get my brows done and do my cosmetics shopping. It sucks because they were so close and convenient and fairly priced, but their customer care is utter crap. read more

Made an appointment to have my moms make up done... On her birthday. We arrived at our appointment time and had to wait for 10 minutes. Midway through the application, the artist began checking her watch and asking how much time she had. Another client sat down and hovered making the experience extremely uncomfortable. Mom asked for a smokey eye. She looks like she had a single swipe of green make up smudged under her brow. The results are absolutely horrible. What trained make up artist lets a client walk out the door unhappy and looking like a mess?! We regretfully paid for this service. I will be doing her make up at home. $30 down the toilet. I needed eye shadow, for an event, and was at the Promenade in Bolingbrook anyway, so I decided to go to their Ulta. I remembered being pampered at the one in Naperville, and after a long work day, I was looking forward to that. I looked around the store and there were long lines of women, little girls and teens waiting to have their makeup done. The makeup artists and sales women ignored me, even though each one eyed me as I walked around and around, trying to find the "nude" shade I wanted. I tried to make sense of their enormous, disorganized (and messy) displays. A sales girl finally came near enough to me that I snagged her as she rushed by me. She tried to sell me an empty "palette box" for forty dollars when I had asked specifically for one single eye shadow. She said, "but it makes more sense to get an entire palette!" Yes. It does. When you're a prom queen. I finally found the single color I wanted, with not one sales person having offered to help. I brought it to the checkout counter along with some overly priced shampoo and hair conditioner. The woman at the checkout counter (who was exquisitely groomed with hair extensions to her waist), simply smiled into the phone and kept talking into it as though she were a celebrity. Didn't look at me, didn't look apologetic or ask me to wait a second---just smiled and purred into the phone. When she finally looked up, she glanced at the eye shadow and said, "Where did you find that." No hello. No smile. And she was still on the phone. The eye shadow had the brand name, (Stila) on it, but I guess that wasn't a giveaway about where I had found it. I said, "Um... In the Stila section?" The woman apologized to whomever it was on the phone, finally said goodbye, grabbed the eye shadow, and lunged away into that vast sea of stuff. I knew this couldn't be good. She wasn't looking for free samples to go with the eye shadow. I should have dropped the hair products and run, but I was fascinated to see what she was going to say. She was gone close to ten minutes. "It's thirty two dollars," she said when she returned. For that tiny, half-inch wide, minuscule eye shadow? Had she smiled, I would have considered buying it. I didn't buy it. I found a similar beautiful shade at Walgreens for under ten dollars. Either Ulta has gone completely downhill, or it was just this one store, but I won't be returning to this store again. So much for the experience of being pampered. read more

Went in yesterday to buy some new foundation. Was in there for about 30 minutes until I decided to leave. No one came up and asked if I needed any help, instead the girl who was working by the bare minerals counter continued to do her makeup. Not only was she doing her makeup, but she was poofing her hair and using tester lipgloss, applying it on with the regular applicator, not a throw away one. After she did this it kinda grossed me out. About 2 minutes later some guy came over to the station and she left. The new guy did not ask if I needed any help either. Now I have worked retail before so I know first hand how busy things can get, still no excuse for not greeting a paying customer. Anywho, I start to browse around looking for the bareminerals collection and I am looking super confused. The girls walk up to all the other people helping them and asking if they need anything and still no one acknowledged my presence at all. I give up on finding the products to match my skin type and color and go look at other products. At this point i'm already really upset so I walk up to one of the girls and ask for help and she waved me off and said sorry i'm busy right now. I almost never get my hair done (I maybe get it cut once every year), but I have really been wanting to lighten my hair for months and I finally decided to splurge and spend the money on it. I had gotten my hair cut elsewhere a couple days before and hated both the cut and the experience so I decided to try Ulta based on a friend's suggestion. It was SO worth the extra money. CORTNEY IS AWESOME! I came in not exactly knowing what I wanted, just that I wanted it lighter. She took the idea and ran with it and suggested a balayage, which ended up being perfect for me! Not only was it perfect, but the whole experience was so enjoyable because Cortney is clearly incredibly passionate. She kept talking about how much she loves doing balayages and raving to both me and the other stylists about how good it looked even before she had finished, which made me feel so positive before I could even see it. She was even able to fix the cut I had gotten previously, even though all I could really tell her was that it didn't FEEL right. She somehow knew exactly how to fix it!
