Funny how you can face your fears if you're doing it for your kid. Of course, it's also funny that I was afraid of a store, just because it sold beauty supplies. Now, I'm not talking about a phobia-level fear. I'm just talking about a dislike... Maybe a distrust. See, I've been burned before. I've walked into a shop looking for a lipstick for a wedding and walked out with the lipstick... and an additional $50 worth of things to fix my unsightly pores, my uneven skin texture, my tired eyes, and my frizzy hair. I wish they'd also sold self-esteem... I could have really used that by the time I left. If you've gone through that, too, then you can understand why I wasn't crazy about my best friend volunteering to take my teenaged daughter to Ulta for her first makeup lesson. I knew my friend loves my daughter. I knew my daughter would feel more confident about makeup if someone showed her the ropes. I just wasn't sure what to expect... and that tiny little voice in my head was saying "remember how you felt? Do you really want that to happen to your kid?" Ulta in Cerritos proved me wrong on so many levels. The store is light and airy and bright with color and choice. So. Many. Choices. I had no idea there was so much makeup in the world. Everything from new boutique brands that are vegan to the classic lux brands like Estee Lauder and Lancome. Yes, they have everything you need, from nail polish to hair care to the very latest in Korean skincare. They also have salon services, where you can book a hair appointment, a brow shaping, skin care regimen, or a makeup lesson. Ulta has everything... and they have really nice people providing all of that. Remember my story earlier? I went into a shop to get a lipstick and walked out feeling picked-over, inferior, and ugly? That is not what happens at Ulta. My daughter had over 30 minutes with a wonderful lady named Kara. She showed her how to achieve a nice day look that was age-appropriate and suited her personality. She answered every question. She was patient. She was funny. She was very well-trained and very, very good at what she does. And... Kara told my daughter that she was beautiful with or without makeup. My kid left smiling. She left confident and validated. She left positive. I could have cried. I will definitely go back to Ulta in Cerritos Town Center. This is now my daughter's go-to makeup and skincare place. Heck, I might even go for myself. read more

Well this isn't for the store but for the security guard there... walked in and he automatically gave me the creeps... but wandered around for a while and went to look at the clinique for a Christmas gift... grabbed a few things and was then trying to find a place to read the products where I didn't have to juggle a basket and reading so was doing that when he kept staring at me... I was going to purchase when I realized I had left my debit card in my car in my large purse... as I was walking out I was adjusting my mask because it was sitting on my ear causing my hearing to be muffled when the guard asked me where I left the items .. I pointed and he said something I couldn't hear but I saw the eye roll so I was going to go to my car and get my wallet but as I was going to show him he grabbed them and walked away with them ... when I explained that I felt he had come off very rude and almost accusing me of stealing he automatically said I was just asking because I have to put the items away... I said ok but I started to say I was going to go to my car go get my debit card but he said something under his breath and at that point I was angry ... But first, you should know that I wrote the company headquarters 30 days ago with my complaint, included pictures, and they have yet to respond. I would have expected more given I'm a diamond member. But not for long :) Below is an excerpt of the letter I sent. I will be contacting the BB next b/c I am due an apology. The good news is I did not wake up crying today. I did yesterday. And I went to bed crying both Saturday, and Friday. The problem started February 5, 2021 when, after months of not having had a haircut, I had an appointment for 10 AM on 5 February. I've never used Ulta before for haircuts. My longtime hairdresser started selling real estate due to Covid. I had been so patient growing it out (my hair), COVID helped. I was so excited! Have I mentioned it had been 6 months since my hair had been cut! This was a complete and total hack job and it took exactly 27 minutes for me to walk in the store and pay, and get back into my car. It is EXTREMELY important to me how I present myself in public. I I care deeply how I present myself and look particulary in my professional environment. Now I look butch. Male. Like I can't afford a bloody haircut. I look gross and it's breaking my heart. I look like I went to a bloody barber :( Looking butch is not my idea of femineity. I'm sure you agree. This haircut is anything but feminine. It's going to take MONTHS for this to grow out, on top of which I'm going to have to deal with the gray, and the lack of blond!!!!! Months and months it's going to be awful. WHAT A WITCH!!! I arrived at my appointment 30 minutes early I was so excited! I walked around outside and waited for the store to open at 10 AM. I was greeted and shared with her how excited I was to be getting a haircut finally. My gosh, I'd been gushing about it for a week with friends and family I was so excited for this appointment. A platinum blond woman checked me in and took me around the other side and told me -mumbled- would be cutting my hair. I'm sure I couldn't understand/hear her b/c of the masks and blow dryers running. I sat in the chair. She never said hello. The witch. Or asked my name. Thee witch. Or even told me her name. 27 minutes and 65$ later, I was in my car. I shared with her I had been growing my hair almost a year, and that I was very excited for this appointment. That I usually kept it short and spikey and I absolutely did not want that. I wanted something more like a long pixie cut. My hair is so freaking short I can't even spike it if you paid me. She never even touched my hair and there was no consult. She then took a scissor and immediately just chopped off some 4 inches in the back then had me in the shampoo chair - found out there the h/c was $55 - she thought about it - making be believe she was making up the price! It was over before I could literally take a breath. At one point I did reach my hand up to feel how long it was (my glasses were off so while I could see, I could not see definition so to speak). I felt stunned. I felt stunned when she took the cape off me and ushered me to the register where she never asked if I wanted another appointment, an appointment for color (I did try to bring up color) much less said thank you. She handed me a piece of paper. By the time I hit the register, I was beyond stunned and imagine I looked it as the register clerk never even asked me how I was or how my haircut was. I mean, it is pretty obvious my h/c is crap. Suffice it to say, I will never use these services again. I am currently processing if I'll ever shop at the store again. You can bet your ass I'll let every single person I face know that I got this whack job at Ulta Beauty. The WITCH is named Courtney and she has red hair. I'd advise you to stay away as I'm certain she is not qualified to cut the hair of older women. ULTA Beauty is a chain of stores known for carrying Men's and Women's beauty products. This Cerritos Towne Center location had just one aisle of Men's products to choose from, compared to all the numerous aisles of Women's essentials. I didn't care too much cause I was slightly embarrassed to even set foot into a place like this. I mean, it's not as bad as strolling into a Victoria's Secret like you own the place, but when you need something, you can't let obstacles get in your way, right? There wasn't much to choose from in the Men's lane, mostly colognes and few a lotions, but what I really needed was the American Crew Hair Wax and luckily they had some available. You don't always find this stuff in stock at your local drug store so it all worked out. The price was reasonable, around $15, and thank God there wasn't a long line at the register, otherwise I'd have to pretend that I was remotely interested in what the store had to offer. The sales associates were awfully nice, probably cause they don't see a lot men waltzing into the store. Nevertheless, the experience was pleasant and A-OK. For you ladies, here's what I recall inside the store. - Cosmetics, Skincare Products, Fragrances, Licensed Haircare Products, and a Full Service Hair Salon. I have been trying to get an error on their behalf resolved for over a month and they keep "escalating" the issue "to corporate" and promising that someone will contact me - then nobody does. Ulta has ALL of the products, from drug store products to department/ salon shops products! Not just products, they have a huge selections on accessories and a salon right smack in the shop. I can spend hours in this store. When they have sales, it's a great deal!! Sometimes unbelievable deals! I just bought a salon brand 32oz shampoo that you get at a salon for $30 for $10 plus a coupon for $3.5 off!! That's $6.50!! Ridiculous deals! They send out coupons and ads too. As long as you continue to shop there, they will keep sending you good deals. I used to come here a lot when I worked in the area few years ago. Walked in to buy my OPI nail colors the ad dated today Nov 15 was buy 2 get a free scarf. We asked if they still had any and they told us they still had 2, we were by the registers thy had no customers. About 2 mins. Into me picking out my colors this other person comes and says, we don't have any more scarfs! So how did they go from having 2 and me saying save one for me to not having any? I think the staff kept the last 2 for themselves. Being told by 3 staff yes we still have 2, to that 4th staff saying they don't have any more? I'm honestly not surprised about their poor ratings. First off, it's an off day and I came in without my hair or makeup done (lookin a hot mess since I've been extremely busy). I had a huge list of items to pick up, and they watched me shop almost the entire time. One of the eyeshadow palettes had a sensor that kept going off as I'm walking around, and an employee kept trying to keep it behind the register but I didn't want to forget it back there. The first red flag. Then, I politely asked if I could compare an eyeshadow palette off the floor to one from the back to cross-check quality, JUST TO BE SURE before I proceeded with my $340 PURCHASE... there were two eyeshadow palettes that I did this for. I use/ collect high end makeup products and want them to be in PRISTINE condition, especially when I'm dropping this kind of money. So YES, I will be particular about which one I choose but I am always, always, extremely polite about it and explain to whoever's helping me, why it's so important for me to thoroughly check the condition. Especially since I've received bad batches in certain products, multiple times before. I don't even have to explain myself to them, but I do anyways. Once I completed checking my products and was ready to check out, I overheard the heavier hispanic lady who helped me whispering to another employee about me (there was barely anyone else in the store) !!!! So I turned around and quietly observed. I literally watched her say "she's crazy!" as she gestured pointing to her head, while making an exaggerated face at the other girl. Once she realized that I was paying attention, she immediately/ AWKWARDLY stopped and got back to work.... which is also how I was able to confirm that she was in fact, referring to me. The experience was cringeworthy. I left the store feeling absolutely AWFUL, disgusted, and humiliated. Almost want to go back and return everything that I had just purchased. AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS if you're someone that cares about what you buy, and expects a little DECENCY from employees of such a large and highly regarded company. YOU WON'T GET ANY RESPECT HERE. NEVER COMING BACK. I almost feel like I would have been respected more by the employees if I came in all dolled up, with an attitude instead. It's my first time at this location and I'm not impressed. The shelves were dirty and unorganized. I was looking at contour powders and most of the ones that are new inside the box were already open! So I signed up for their store card and received this 20% off any hair service from their salon section and seeing that I was in dire need of a cut/rim, I went to Ulta after calling up the other salon and said that they were book for the whole day and would not take any walk ins at all .. grrrrr. Pat was the nicest lady! She talked to me while cutting my hair and was in love with my hair. She couldn't stop loving it =p Anyways, she was super nice and cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. It was super nice, I got compliments on it the whole day and next. Even when she was washing my hair, she gave me a little head massage (wish it was only much longer! lol). Anyways, I will definitely be a devoted client of hers as long as I continue to live around the area. At check out Hillary mentioned I get a gift w my purchase and proceeds to go though this cabinet with plethora of gifts, samples and other gift w purchase items. She digs through all these many things then comes back to say "we ran out of that" I then said I'll take any little gift you have ( like I mentioned, there were tons of other stuff she went through) then just says she's all out. I get maybe specific items are for products yet I had a total over $200 and I'm a diamond member and you couldn't give me not one thing! That's poor customer loyalty if you ask me. I have been canceled and rescheduled so many times and always when most inconvenient (like before a trip). They have had some great stylists come and go so I guess retention is an issue. I'm not one for brand loyalty. My makeup bag is a hodge podge of different brands. That's what's so great about ULTA. It's exactly how I have my makeup bag! I have LORAC eyeliner and brow powder. I have Neutrogena powder and concealer. I use Cover Girl mascara (EyeLights to be exact 'cause it has a hint of sparkle!!!), I put Revlon on my lips. And I use Dermalogica on my skin. ULTA is great because they carry higher end brands to CVS brands all under one roof. And what's even greater is that I can browse at my own leisure, without being followed or hassled by makeup girls. Every time I visit, I'm greeted by someone from somewhere, someone may check on me once and when I tell them "I'm okay, thank you" or "I'm just looking, thank you" I'm good to go. Check out is fast and courteous, and the ladies are always polite. I did ask for help one day about liquid liner. I simply went to one of the ladies and asked, "I'm looking for a good, beginner liquid eyeliner, that's waterproof and idiot proof. Do you have any suggestions???" And you know what? She was totally able to help me!!! (yay!!!) She directed me to LORAC's Front of the Line liquid liner. It looks like a marker, but it's this cool tapered brush. The liner isn't waterproof, but it is smudge proof. And it'll last all day with my combo/oily skin, and moderate O.R. humidity. It's very easy to apply, and if you mess up, it's easy to correct. Okay. Wow. Didn't mean to turn this into a product review, too. Lol... So there's a salon inside the store, but that's all I can say about that. There is a decent and recent collection of perfumes and colognes, plenty of hair products (all varieties and prices, too), a nice selection of small hair and beauty appliances, lots of nail polish, and some hair accessories and sunglasses. Oh!!! You get free samples at check out, too! Yay, free!!! The store is well kept with plenty of space between each display. Another plus? It's in the Cerritos Towne Center! The manager on duty (I'm horrible at remembering names) was an absolute delight; unfortunately they didn't have a few Chanel products I wanted and she made sure to double check if she had it in backstock. This was my first time visiting this location in a while and I was not impressed. No one greeted me but they looked at me when I walked in. A few moments later I heard a customer being welcomed which shows they pick and choose when to greet a guest. Like I said I never frequent this location so I was unfamiliar with where things were. I spent almost 10 minutes searching for the nail section in the process i received numerous stares from the employees who witnessed me walking around clueless and in circles. No one offered to help me though just kept looking and continuing with their conversation with their co workers. There's nothing to girl likes more than to get all dolled up, and this is the place to do to it.... or at least get the supplies for it. This location is bigger than some of the other ones which is definitely a bonus. It has a pretty good selection of make up and nail polishes from a number of cosmetic companies. It also has a hair salon, which is on the high end of moderately priced. Other supplies you can buy here are: brushes, hair clips, lotions, facial cleansers, flat and curling irons...the list goes on... I love to play in this store - kind a like I, along with many other girls, did when we were little and raided my mom's make up bag...except on a more massive scale and without getting in trouble for it via mom. They also help insofar as suggesting products or applying makeup on you (think mini makeup makeover). You don't necessarily need an appointment to do this, but making one is probably the safer bet. The only problem is that make up is indeed expensive. And while I love to play with it, I can't necessarily afford it all...I wish some of my fees were not so pricey... I suppose that is why it also carries the usual less expensive drug store brands too. Either way, have fun! One of the Better ULTA'S i've been too.. 20X better than the Redondo beach location, they are in the process of renovating, the isles are very SMALL, elbow to elbow type.. BUT THE STAFF were ALL FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, which I greatly appreciated b/c I value good customer service over all else. The selection is seldom.. most NYX shadows like the r. beach location were sold out. but they still have much more items in stock than the other ULTA'S. I rated 4/5 stars b/c they don't have those tables at the end of each isle that the other ulta's or even sephora have, where you can remove the makeup you've tested. they only had ONE chair with tissue and hand sanitizer, although hand sanitizer does work to remove make-up, its very drying, so i rather have a make-up wipe or remover!! I will most likely visit this location again, BUT after they remodel so I have room to look around and take my time while not having to scoot over. the thing I HATE most about ULTA is their rewards program, I'm the type of girl who LOVES trying NEW make-up and CANNOT / WILL NOT commit to just one foundation or powder or bronzer for more than a few days.. So im continually buying and returning stuff, I had about $3.00 to redeem when I walked in and after I returned a few items i NO LONGER had that $3.00 to redeem which was a rip. Because If i had known thats how the program worked I would have used that free $$ first THEN did the return. Love the safety precautions the salon and store are taking. After six months of hair growth, I was glad to feel lighter, knowing that I could gt my hair cut and styled in a safe manner. Staff was extremely rude when picking up my online order. I was nothing but polite but the worker (I should've gotten her name) had attitude. There was no one in the store as well, it's not like they were super busy and she was flustered... anyway, I'll be going to another Ulta location next time. read more

I love Ulta, I've had a lot of good experiences at other locations. Although this location, the floor, was clean. But the customer service was horrible. I walked in and employees just looked at me and continued talking to one another. I walked around the store trying to find something and wasn't having any luck finding the specific item. Not ONE single employee came up to me and asked me if I needed help. They all just looked at me wander. I finally had to stop someone because no one was offering anything. Again, I've been to other locations where employees greeted me, acknowledged me, and if I looked like I was having any sort of trouble came up and ask if i needed assistance. Management if you are reading this, your store really needs to be retrained on customer service. read more

I used to love this store. I bought an item got home and noticed someone switched the color. Brought it back for an exchange. First the girl said bring the whole kit back. OK so I did now the manager is saying they discontinued that color so I can't exchange it. WHAT! I saw the same product in the store same color! This place is horrible and they don't care about people trying to get the correct products. Basically I just waisted 70$ on something I wouldn't use. The manager is unprofessional and obviously a liar. Will be finding another beauty store to go to not Ulta!!!! read more
