Came to pick up my birthday presents and buy a couple things.... when I scanned my Ultamate rewards card the girl didn't say anything about being my birthday month so I had to ask. She said I'm the one that has to say anything and show the email ULTA sends. I didn't like that answer: any other places I've been, the second I scan my card, the cashier says "happy birthday" and asks me if I want to claim my present. Then, I can show the email or coupon or sometimes I don't have to show them anything. So, while is not the girls fault, I think I shouldn't be asking "is there a present for me" to anybody. I don't normally write reviews but I recently got my hair done at the Ulta Beauty Salon and WOW. I am blown away. I hate trying new things especially hair stylists since you never know what you'll end up with if the person doesn't know what they're doing. This, however, is not the case. I asked for a trim and to thin my hair out since it's summer now and I have extremely thick hair. Danielle is the one who cut my hair and she is THE BEST! She did exactly what I asked and managed to trim my hair without losing any length! I can't imagine having anyone else cut my hair from now on! 10/10 recommend! read more

Let me start by saying this review isn't about the staff, who were incredible(Shout-out to Duke and Katie for making me laugh) they helped me find the eyeliner and foundation I needed for me wife very quickly and were very friendly However my experience was ruined by what I assumed to be the manager Hayley. She never asked me if I needed help when I entered and I had to go find someone to help me. While I was browsing I over heard her speaking to one of the employees and let me just say the way and tone that she spoke to them in was unacceptable. I manage a retail store myself and I would never speak to any of my employees that way. Unprofessional, rude, and evidence of poor management skills. Hopefully Ulta corporate will take my email I sent to them about this seriously. Was extremely demeaning to customers and even more so to her employees. I have never witnessed anything like this. Beware of this location. They have security, yet there is a lady in there cleansing/moisturizing her body with store products that she uses and then she puts them back on the shelf. All while the sales people walk by and don't say anything. We also overheard the cashier, Gabby say she put a lipstick back to be put on the shelf after it had been returned. The seal was broken, per another sales girl, despite the customer saying she hadn't used it when she returned it! Gabby was rude and I wouldn't trust her to do the right thing. Putting back possibly used lipstick is never a good idea!! Also, the customer in front of us had to ask for the correct change to be given as Gabby forgot to give her back a few dollars with her change! We will not return to this location. read more

I bought a 75$ gift card on Dec 1, 2018 as a Christmas gift. When I went with My daughter to use this gift card, on Feb 16th 2019, we were told there was a $0 balance on the card. We were at the same store , 17th Street Costa Mesa Ca, where the card was purchased. They gave me the Guest Service phone # and I called from the store. I was informed, from Guest Services, that their records show the card was bought on Sat Dec 1st and it was used the next day Dec 2, 2018. Not sure how that happened when I didn't give the gift card to my daughter until December 24. Here's what's extremely suspicious..... * I purchased the card on December 1st and paid cash * The card was used the next Day per guest services * The Ulta Store on 17th , where I purchased the card, has no record In their system that the gift card was purchase. How can that be?! * Did the person who checked me out pocket the $75 cash I gave & Cancel in system....did they use the card or regifting . * Guest Services shows the 75$ Gift card purchase, Ulta 17th Street where I purchased it does not. It was so embarrassing not getting help from the Manager at Ulta. The Front Desk women tried to help me every step of the way, but the manager would not talk to me or help me. The front desk woman called the manager over to tell her the situation As I waited to the side of the counter, on the phone with Guest Services. I looked over at the two woman conversing and the Manager shook her head and told the front desk woman there was nothing she could do. The Manager then walked away..... that doesn't appear very managerial. She never looked at me or acknowledged my presence. Guest Service told me to file a POLICE REPORT.... This is quite the review and I suggest you read it all the way through. *(PHOTOS INCLUDED)* I made an appointment here to have my makeup done for my senior prom, as my sister had hers done at a different ULTA and it turned out very nice. My appointment was at 4pm and my estimated leave time was 4:45pm but boy was that off. Not to mention I had dinner reservations at 6pm. The store was not very busy when I was there. However, another customer came in a good 20 minutes after me and was out of the store long before I was. Why? because I wanted a wing on my eyeliner, and the lady doing my makeup (and myself) had to wait for ANOTHER woman doing the OTHER girl's makeup to do it (because my lady didn't know how) even though I had walked in MUCH before. The lady doing my makeup ended up doing everything (including putting on eyelashes) and then LEAVING (for what I don't know) me to wait for someone else to finish me off with eyeliner. I ended up not seeing the finished product until the very end for the "surprise" feeling. Except that I was more horrified than anything. At the beginning of my appointment, I showed my makeup artist a few pictures of things that I had liked the look of, just to give her some inspiration. I told her to do what she was good at, that the pictures were just for some frame of mind. She even proceeded to compliment me by saying, "oh thank God, you're not a twitchy client!" (which implies that I was easy to work on). The finished product was god awful. I looked dead, as there was brown eyeshadow (one color!) all the way up to my eyebrows, which were shoddily done and uneven. My lipstick was a disaster, and my bronzer looked as if I had been punched-on ONE side of my face. I had to ask the woman that did my eyeliner to try and fix the bronzer the first woman had some. It took them so long to get the job done that I didn't leave until 5:30. 5:30! I was much too late for my dinner reservations to complain to them about whatever they'd done to my face, which at the time I had only looked at for a few seconds. I ended up having to buy the $20 lipstick she used so that I could wipe off and fix the damage she had done. I had to stop back at my house to pick up some emergency makeup to try and repair my face. I spent $70 here for a makeup job worth a damn penny. Needless to say, I looked so dead in all of my senior prom photos that I was too embarrassed to post them. I was so late to everything that I almost didn't make it to the dance in time. My sister called in regards to asking if a product was in stock (she saw that it was in stock online and wanted to call to confirm if it was actually in store) the employee (whose name we were unable to retrieve because she literally gave us no time to talk) immediately shut her down and rudely stated "no we don't have any in stock" and immediately hung up after that. These 5 stars are solely for Danielle at the salon! I have been here too often lately and yes I have to admit their customer service is lacking. Every time I come to this location there are 5+ customers in line while there is only one cashier on the register. Several other employees will stand around fixing products on shelves nearby or chit chatting with other employees instead of just jumping on the register to help the line of customers. Today the cashier didn't know how to load the receipt tape. She asked another employee for help and instead of coming to help the other employee just sat in a chair nearby for 3 minutes trying to explain it to her. First girl made a suggestion but as they were out of stock on that particular shade it was like "Oh well". Then I just went browsing. After a few minutes another young lady asked if she could help. I told her the brand I was interested in and she said it wasn't carried in the store. Perhaps I had seen it online then walked away. I turned on the next aisle and there it was. I'm sorry. Wish I could give this store a higher rating but I'm being generous at 3 stars. What I expect from a store like this: stocked shelves, clean makeup samples that are appealing, clear sales shelves that are organized, general cleanliness and appeal in a store. What this store does have is a big variety. However 80% of supplies of the popular brands I came here for are out of stock. This store has friendly staff, however they have no pride in the appearance of the store. Thousands of products, but all displays were dirty and run down. Staff should be cleaning each station regularly but they were standing around when no one was asking them something. One staff employee in particular when asked if they had a product I couldn't find said without moving to look, 'I think the last one is gone.' She did this five or six times without out once actually looking. Also, the sales here did not match the products due to disorganization . I thought I'd try a few new things due to sales, only to find when I got to the register, nothing I picked from sales shelves was really on sale. Felt duped. And for the makeup I came to pay full price for , I did not get one single thing due to no inventory. While in there not one single employee was cleaning or straightening anything. They stood around when not ringing people. They had that defeated bored look. Though polite, the store pride isn't here. I will not come back to this store because why would I? You go to get popular brands like urban decay, etc. I want a clean, stocked, organized experience. In fact, out of six brands I came to get, I left with nothing on my list. Why go here when online, Sephora, or Planet Beauty has more products in a cleaner environment? Overall no issue with kindness of staff but they are in a dirty unkept store. Okay, so when it comes to makeup I'm a complete ninny. I can't apply eye makeup - not that it matters, every kind I try makes my eyes itch, water, burn, and turn as red as Christopher Lee's eyes in pretty much any Hammer Dracula movie. But I like wearing makeup, even if I have no idea was contouring is no matter how many videos by Patricia Bright, James Charles, or Jeffree Star I watch. Well, today was my first time walking into an Ulta. I went in because they sell one of my favorite brands a few cents cheaper than WalMart. I was scared though. I imagined an experience like I've had in many a mall - getting pulled to a chair for a makeover, talked into stuff that only makes me unhappy, spending way too much money on stuff I'll never use. Instead other than a brief and friendly "Welcome" I was left alone to browse and choose my own stuff. No one flying over to "do my colors." No one insisting on coloring my eyebrows. (I purposefully dye them to match the hair on my head. Yes, that means they're so light in color I might as well shave them off, but that's the way I like them to be.) Other than someone asking me if I was finding everything okay I was left alone to do my own thing. It was such a relief! Being left to my own devices, to make my own choices, made for such a relaxing shopping experience! I don't know if all Ultas are like this - after all, until today I was an Ulta Virgin - or if this one is like this all the time, but I hope that's the case. It was just so nice to be left alone and not feel like I'm being ganged up on. Now, I will admit, even though I am terrible at eye makeup and I can't wear it without a reaction, I am glad the James Charles Pallet was sold out - because I am very tempted to buy it just to make a YouTube video where I use it to draw stick figures all over my face. Had the worst customer experience here. There were no employees in sight to help customers with questions. I walked around twice and just gave up and went to purchase my items. There was a cashier and another lady looking at papers up front. I asked two questions and I got such a rude repose and a "look". My questions were so simple too. They bait-and-switch you here- I called ahead to make sure they had a gift with purchase and they said they 'had tons of it.' When I checked out, they said they were out of it. I visited Ulta today, December 31, 2019, before noon. Ultra on East Seventeenth Street in Costa Mesa, CA. I was looking for foundation with sunscreen. RICHARD, a make up artist, assisted me. RICHARD is the best. He listens and is observant. Richard found exactly what I wanted and quickly and applied the foundation on my face to make sure it was the correct color. He then helped me find a sponge that would be best for applying this foundation. The two women a the counter at check out could not have been nicer; and they checked me out quickly.
