The Salon has talented hair stylist, Diana, however she consistently over books herself and have 3 clients at the same time resulting in poor attention to details. She is an elite stylist but you dont get her elite attention. Because she was over booked she rushed my hair cut resulting in my layers looking very choppy. She attempt to hide the poor hair cut by curling my hair. Unfortunately she didnt leave my hair in the curler long enough and they fell out by the time I got to my car which then I saw how back of a hair job it was with some random short piece of hair that looked like bad bangs. When I went back inside to ask her about my hair she never once admitted it was bad and instead made excuses about saying thats how she does layers or she misunderstood me. She then took the time to pay me some attention and "fix" my choppy hair but its now way shorter than what I wanted because she cut the first layer too short. When I reminder her I wanted the first layer to start at my chin she stretched out the layer and said "see its at your chin" I see layers on one side of my head and a weird short layer but nothing on the other side. She said I had to ask for "butterfly" ive never heard this term for a hair cut. ive always said layers and I was given layers blended into my hair. you would think an "elite" stylist would know that or at least ask. also I told her I part my hair this shouldve been taken into account when cutting my hair. read more

I went in today for my birthday eyebrow wax...honestly biggest mistake. I wanted to look nice for my birthday which is in 2 days but the lady that waxed them messed them up. They are too thin, very uneven, one eyebrow is smaller than the other one, and there were hairs that were left unwaxed.. she was nice but when I told her that I didn't like them she said "Well, they'll grow back" then walked away...Honestly the worst thing to say after a customer is left unhappy with the outcome... I had a haircut appointment with Diana. Turns out that she might have double booked or from what I was told, the previous color appt was late for her appointment. But that still doesn't mean I should be rushed through my appointment. The appt lasted 20 min, from washing to cut to styling. Some might think that is a nice time saver but not when the haircut doesn't come out the way you expect! I have straight hair, got a blunt cut all the way around from the back to my bangs. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her but my bangs STRAIGHT across without any layering to make it look natural, not to mention that it was cut way shorter than I asked (I asked for bangs to hit the brow but it was about half inch above the brow). I've been a client of Diane's for several years and I'm always happy with my cut and color. She does a fantastic job, really listens to what I want, and always gets the color just right. This review is delayed because the situation itself was delayed -- and that's part of the problem. Months ago, I had an uncomfortable interaction at the front counter. As soon as I approached, the associate appeared visibly irritated before I even finished explaining why I needed help. I asked to look up my recent purchases so I could repurchase my contour and foundation/skin tint. I didn't know my exact shade, which is why I asked for assistance -- I was trying to make the correct purchase and pay. Instead of being helped, I was met with defensiveness. Another employee stepped in to defend her coworker rather than help resolve the situation. I wasn't being rude or demanding -- I was simply trying to get my questions answered so I could complete my purchase. What was especially frustrating is that if customers are expected to rely on trial and error and figure everything out themselves, there are plenty of other stores where that's possible. I shop at Ulta specifically because I expect knowledgeable assistance that helps minimize returns and ensures I'm buying the right products the first time. That's the value Ulta is supposed to offer. At the time, I asked for a manager to call me back. That never happened -- until months later, when I received a call at 8 AM from a blocked number. Given how much time had passed, the call felt intrusive rather than professional and highlighted how little urgency was placed on the original concern. Because of this experience, I've significantly minimized how often I shop at Ulta, even though I have an Ulta credit card. Customer service matters. Human decency and professionalism should be the minimum, and unfortunately, this location did not meet that standard read more

I went to Ulta on Homestead Rd. to have someone pick out a new foundation for me for a very important wedding. I was properly greeted as I walked in. I appreciate that. However, I am very disappointed that not one person came up to me as I walked around the different aisles looking at brands. As I walked into this Ulta I noticed there were 3 employees standing around by the perfumes talking to each other. I looked at them hoping they would notice me or ask me if I needed help. Nope! The time was 6pm & it was not very busy at all. I actually had to go up to the girl at the register to ask for assistance. She apologized & said if she could leave the register she would help me but had to get someone. The gal that helped me seemed very uninterested in helping me & I had other questions to ask. I should mention that the last foundation I bought was from Macy's where I had great customer service but unfortunately the Macy's in my area closed. Plus the shade choice I had is discontinued. Macy's was kind enough to give me small sample sizes to compare colors. Ulta told me they cannot do that. Anyway, I am not usually a complainer but I think I should go to Sephora next time. It's just that this wedding is important to me & it's the 2nd time I had this problem at Homestead Rd Ulta. One thing I will compliment them on is that they have all the testers out which is super helpful! read more

I've really enjoyed my recent experiences here. The staff is always helpful and friendly, often sharing their own experiences with the products, which makes decision-making easier. My only suggestion would be to provide more makeup remover and tissues at the try-on stations; it's a bit inconvenient to walk all the way to the other end of the aisle just to clean up. That said, it's a minor issue. I'll definitely be coming back! (Tip: pack your own makeup remover, just in case.) read more

Today I went to purchase shampoo. I'm almost out and the big bottle sale isn't until January . I checked the app for sales and saw this redken extreme on sale 15.00. Sale started today Nov 23. However, when I got to the register, it rang up regular price $26. I informed the cashier that the app showed it on sale. All she said is it's $26. Didn't ask to see the ad . She made me feel very uncomfortable to a point where I just wanted to leave and not continue on with my purchases. I was supposed to come back for an appointment but I ended up just canceling it. I walked around the store for 15 minutes trying to find KVD products couldn't find them. Then tried to find a worker, all the workers were in a circle talking amongst themselves not offering help. Went to ask the manager for help and she did not want to! Her conversation with her employe about their day were more important. This store seems better stocked than the San Jose (El Paseo de Saratoga) location. There also seems to be more brands represented here, and the store shelves are fuller and more organized/neat. My daughter wanted a particular eyeshadow palette that she saw at the San Jose location, the day before, but could not buy it because they were sold out; she managed to find the same eyeshadow palette at this Cupertino location and they had several boxes available on she shelf. It's fun browsing through the store. I like how they have a wide range of products, from affordable "drug store" brands to more expensive higher end brands. There is something for everyone's budget. Price signage is very good so you won't get sticker shock when you are checking out. They have a hair salon at the back of the store, and I noticed one person having their hair done. Parking at this location is no problem at all. The payment machines at checkout were fully functional (with no signs indicating anything was not working, like I saw at the San Jose store). read more

Diana did my eyebrows & did not follow my instruction. She took off a majority of my brows. I showed her a picture to follow & she did not pay any attention to detail. The store manager refunded my payment for the service & agreed she did not do a good job. States she's been doing hair and makeup for 40 years... but does not pay attention to detail when waxing hair off someone's face. Unacceptable, do not recommend. read more

A handful of times I've been to this particular beauty salon. Everything is always very well kept and the employee seemed very helpful and knowledgeable. I also like the fact they have a salon in the back with a waiting area and everything is very well organized and kept up. This particular day I was looking for organic nail polish and I was delighted when I found an array of polishes in a particular section but since a year ago, this particular, Ulta location Has taken a lot of their nail polishes out. Maybe not as much as a big seller as their make up or hair care lines but I like nail polish. Lol and I found a polish I liked and it was $13 but I guess everything goes up with inflation! I purchased $200 worth of products because you get 2x points during your birthday month. When i came in, i told them it is my birthday month and they did not apply the 2x points nor tell me i need to grab the coupon on the ulta app. I came back to fix this and the person at the register was like there is nothing we can do, call customer service. Or you could come back, return all the products, but these purchases were gifts so it isn't like i can ask for them back. Since they neglected to help me the first time, the manager could have at least called customer service to help us with the situation. Instead, they put the burden on the customer to fix the mistake of the employee of ulta. There was no line, and there were three people at the register, so it wasn't like they didn't have the capacity to help. This whole situation took an hour out my time, and the in store employees had an unfriendly attitude and were not trying to be helpful. I do not know why the employees have to be so rude. When I would come in I would always have my hair and makeup done, everyone would let me be and ask if I needed help with anything. Of course today I came in with my face and hair looking like a mess. I haven't had my coffee so let me be! I walked in and saw they had fenty, I got very excited and was trying on shades on my face and neck using the testers and Q-Tips, one person approached to where I was at and acted like they were texting but instead they were watching my every move. I was in the isle for a long time swatching concealers and foundations. Nobody came up to me and asked if I needed help in finding the correct or close shade. I looked over at the two employees that was chit chatting at the registers hoping to get their attention. Instead they looked at me and went back to their conversation. In the end I did everything by myself I found a perfect match, however most concealer was not a good match for the foundation kind of upset but not really. Instead I went to try and find nars foundation. I went up to an employee who looked at me weird and said hello. I asked if they have nars foundation, they said no we only have that little isle over there. I said okay thanks, when I was walking away I overheard the other employee asking them where I'd the nars foundation and I heard her said in Sunnyvale area. Would've been nice if they could've told me that. I got a bit disappointed with this location, not everyone is going to have their face beat to impress. I made a last minute appointment online for a make-up application the next day. They had a lot more appointments available at this location than the Brokaw Rd location. I wanted to look in between natural put together and a little special for my graduation. I showed up to the salon which is located in the back of the store. My stylist was ready and waiting for me to check in. She talked to me about how I normally wear my make up, what style I was looking for, and offered some suggestions to help me pin down what exactly I wanted. After that she left to find products that matched my description around the store. They grab testers around the store to use on you so just a warning if you're worried about cleanliness. They use brushes from the salon which I assume are cleaned since they didn't look like they had make up on them from the start. For lip product application, they use a new disposable applicator on you. She started off with matching my foundation, highlighter, then eyes. At different points throughout the application she would ask if I was okay with what I had so far or if I wanted something different - what colors, if I wanted deeper eye shadow, how long I wanted my eyeliner wing to be, which color of lipstick I preferred. The only thing I had to do was curl my lashes with a curler which I think is pretty normal. For other applications I've done at other stores, they normally ask if you're okay doing this yourself since they don't want to pinch you. In terms of the products that were used, you can have a say in what brands they used. I just let her choose at her discretion. Some of the brands that she used on me included: Anastasia foundation, brow pencil, "Soft Glam" palette; Too Faced "Better Than Sex" eyeliner and finishing powder; and Smashbox Superfan mascara to name a few. So, they don't cheap out on what they use on you (it's not like it's just the Ulta brand stuff). I really like how my makeup turned out. It was a little dressier than I normally wear but not enough that it was in appropriate for my event. It actually lasted all night despite my predisposition to have eyeliner and mascara run. The only issue I had with my application was an unfortunate by product of the lash glue getting on my bottom eyelashes and clumping the crap out of them. I did mention this to my stylish who tried to brush them out but she didn't want to scratch the sensitive skin around the eye so I had to go home and pick them apart with tweezers myself. On a previous visit, I had spoken with a salon representative that said the 45-minute Everyday Makeup Application appointment included some eye shadow and that things like a smoky eye would require the 60-minute Formal Makeup Application. I had actually booked the former but was charged for the latter which was +$15 more, I guess because things like highlighting and the shadow I got was considered too glam so I'd advise discussing beforehand what exactly you want so you're not surprised by the price later. I also had strip lashes added on and that is an extra cost on top of the application which was +$10. It was a good visit all around. My stylist Brianna was very collaborative with me and she was very nice. I did walk around the store a bit and decided to purchase the lip color she used on me so I could touch up during the night. I had to interact with another staff member on the floor since they seemed to be out of the color that I was looking for. She helped me look up the product but was kind of distracted while doing it. Also at check out the girl was kind off gruff. Kind of an aggressive vibe from the rest of the staff. The store does have restrooms by the salon if you're ever here for a long appointment. There are also some comfy chairs right outside of the salon. Lastly, there is a lot of parking in the lot out front. read more

This review is for my experience with the Ulta Hair Salon located in Cupertino, but more specifically about my stellar experience with Diana my hair stylist. I wanted to bleach my hair that day spontaneously and potentially color another day, but I knew that you could book appointments online. I called the store just to check if they allowed walkins in case their service was comparable to other hair salons, and to my surprise they did allow it for my situation. I was so grateful to meet Diana who managed to fit me into her schedule despite also having another end of day appointment, she was so efficient with how she took care of my hair while bleaching and did an amazing job. She was also able to color my hair the desired color I wanted the same day as my hair was being bleached the first time because I chose red as my hair color. The whole salon was super informative, but I felt extremely lucky to have received Diana as my hair stylist as I came to find out that she has been working in this industry for well over 30 years! She made my experience so pleasant by allowing me as a walk in, and taking such great care of my virgin black asian hair while bleaching, I felt apprehensive about the quality of my hair since bleach seemed invasive and damaging; but Diana was able to inform me of products and ways of managing my hair after that left me feeling a great sense of trust in her experience. She is the sweetest and nicest lady ever, and this review is to show what an amazing job she did in helping me transition my virgin hair to the dream auburn hair I wanted. I was having issues with making my purchase online all day so I decided to take the risk and drop by the store on my very short lunch break. Eddie the manager greeted me immediately and the second I told him about my situation understood I had limited time and that I knew exactly what I wanted. He personally darted around the store finding EXACTLY what I wanted and in 5 minutes I was out of there with my stuff AND the online discount I was supposed to get online if the website/app would've worked. This is the best place to get everything related to beauty. They have so many different brands. From Prada perfume, Chi shampoo, and etc. It's a huge store too not like a little corner store. They have a rewards program that gives you discounts when you spend so much. But they do ask for you email and then you literally will be spams with discounts and promotions. The staff at the cashier seems friendly enough, I have never had a problem with them. Before you reach the cashier, there's like a bunch of tiny little sample bottles that cost a few bucks. I needed a shower cap and got one, although the shower cap made by Drybar was on the expensive side in my opinion ($16 + tax if I remember correctly). My brother and I walked around the store upon entering Ulta to find a shower caps. We ended up asking an employee where they were, and I apologized because she was technically off the clock. She kindly helped us anyway! The employee showed us the only shower cap she knew they had, and my brother grabbed it for me with no hesitation. He ended up getting one other thing before we checked out. It didn't take very long to get through the short line. The cashier gave us a free gift as a perk for the purchase, and mentioned that Drybar was having an event there the next day where I could get my hair done for free! I signed up, but only after talking to a Drybar representative about their experience with African American hair. She said the Drybar products worked with all hair types. Well, I ended up canceling the appointment because although the products may work with all hair types, not all hands are gifted with African American hair and I didn't want to walk out of the appointment upset. Better safe than sorry! I still use the shower cap regularly, so there's that :) read more

Diana W is at Ulta Cupertino now and she is really sweet, just very hard to get her full attention as she will double book and triple book her schedule. So processing color takes a while, getting your hair washed takes a while, and things like deep conditioning are offered but then it helps her with the many clients she is juggling. Stressful to have to do it this way but this is how she runs her shop. So expect to be there twice as long as your appointment, or to leave with a cut not what you wanted as she's doing a color in between... wish Ulta would just lock the calendar so stylists can't double or triple book. I get they need to make money but the client experience should be pleasant and complete and that should come first. read more
