I've been coming here for the past year to get my roots done (platinum blonde) and to get trims by Kat. Kat always does an awesome job on getting my hair color to that perfect white blonde that doesn't have that yucky brassy yellow color. Last time I came in I wanted some pink in my hair and it turned out better than I expected. Kat really hooks it up with the color and styling!! Besides the badass salon and stylist, Ulta has a mass variety of beauty products and I always find myself getting a lot of good deals on makeup due to all the coupons and rewards card points. I love Ulta but wouldn't recommend this location. I have been trying to get a brow appointment at the Benefit bar...but apparently they don't want to take customers. I have called a few different days/times, someone answers, says they will transfer me, and then I end up just sitting on the line. I called this morning and the same thing happened. So I decided to go in around 10:30am- waited by the brow bar, two different employees saw me waiting and didn't offer to assist, they intentionally avoided contact. One of them walked by me so I had to get her attention to ask. She said the brow person wasn't in until 11am...so why did the girl on the phone earlier transfer me to someone who was wasn't even in yet? read more

This review is for the salon. I went in to get balayage done. Showed pictures. Stylists was super nice and we talked and looked at swatches to show me what she would do. Foiled hair, toned and then added color, sat under blower, and rinsed. When the towel came off at the chair what should've been a dark color was super light as if the color had faded. I was clearly upset. Stylist said she couldn't go back and fix the problem bc she had just toned my hair and so on. Said to come back in a few days and until then wear my hair in a bun or in a braid? LOL really! I went in on a Tuesday and she couldn't see me until Friday. Saturday was all booked of course so I wasn't able to go in until Sunday bc of things I had going on. Sunday came and she fixed her problem and color looked great. Bought the sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and dry shampoo she recommended. I was happy. Not even two hair washed later all the color came out and my hair looked horrible again. Don't recommend this place to anyone! $200+ not well spent. I even left a tip both times big mistake on my end. Never again!! read more

I was one of Heather's client. I am now one of Nicole's clients (Heather moved to Tenn) Heather introduced me to HER sister, NICOLE and told me MORE than once how great she was. She reassured me that Nicole had more experienced than her and that I would be very happy. I was sad she was leaving but I totally trust her. And she was right! I have been to Nicole 3 or 4 times for cut, color and highlights. She is amazing, VERY professional, funny, sensitive and one of the best stylist I have EVER been to! Thank you Ulta for hiring her! I've been to the salon here a couple of times now. My initial visit with each different stylist is always AMAZING so I kept going back. However, this is the most inconsistent group of stylists I've ever come across. Their first appointment with you is typically really good, they listen to what you want and work to give you exactly that. So eagerly, you come back. But each time after they totally disregard what you want and their work just goes really south. The last time I was there they literally sent me out the door with George Washington curls and layers so choppy it looked like I did it myself. It was only a trim too. It was horrible. I've given them so many chances but I am so unhappy with the quality of my last haircut here, I will not be returning. It's just as expensive as a real salon so you might as well take your money elsewhere for a better quality cut and color. read more

I believe her name was Annette ("Annie"). She had a Bettie Page-vibe with a Gwen Stefani-style. She was adorable! -To me, style matters because I was trusting this woman to KeraStraight my long, naturally curly hair. The whole process was going to take 4-5 hours of chemicals, heat, flat ironing, shampooing, etc. -To me, if the person takes care of their appearance, they'll be taking care of mine, too. - I was right! Annie was awesome! Sweet, knowledgable, she talked me through the entire process, offered me water, etc. She even trimmed my hair for me- she was terrrific! KeraStraight: My hair is long, naturally curly, the ends are dried & coarse and it gets frizzy when humid. After the KS, it's definitely straighter and have yet to use my flat iron on it. It takes less than 1/2 the time to dry it, than it used to and although my hair feels stronger and healthier now- I do miss being able to throw some mousse in it and letting it air dry. Great product and it does exactly what it says it'll do. Cost: From what I understand- the longer your hair is, the more it'll cost. My hair is just above my tailbone. I was expecting to pay $300+. Ulta charged me nearly 1/2 that. read more

Im super disappointed with my visit. Im from out of town and stopped by for a banana powder they had in stock. NO ONE APPROACHED ME FOR HELP. Now I dont want to say it was a racial thing (im mexican american) BUT the workers approached the caucasian females with no issues multiple times. There was another hispanic female in there with her daughter who was waiting and waiting for help. No one approached her either so I ended up helping her after 20 minutes of waiting. While I walked around the store, the workers continued to approached the caucasian customers. Im appalled and felt extremely uncomfortable. So much so I am sitting in my car right now and writing this review. There was another situation where in the corner of the store, three workers were discussing store issues and bad mouthing other employees. Very unprofessional. I go to Ulta all the time in my city and have never had this experience. I expect this from Sephora and not Ulta. I will be discussing this with corporate so no kne else feels uncomfortable again. I gave it two stars because the cashier was friendly and shared info about the Bare Minerals event coming up. read more

I am a low maintenance makeup wearer and just started watching makeup videos and tutorials. I went into ulta thinking I needed to buy so many things. Ana helped me out telling me what I did and did not need based on my skin and what I currently use as makeup. She suggested other options that would suit me better as well. She in fact was WONDERFUL. I like ulta! Don't get me wrong.... It's the inconsistency that urks me! Some days they have great deals, some days they have great service and other days they have inflated prices and snotty service. I mean seriously ladies... Your customer is a female, 18-45 mostly wanting to be sold beauty products...it doesn't get easier than that! Women buy when they think it makes them prettier or skinnier- start complementing or even just explaining your product and watch your sales go up! I love the frequent buyer card.... It's taken awhile to find a stylist that does exactly what I want and actually remembers how I want my hair cut and colored every time I go in. I have very light blonde hair and have always had a hard time with banding because of my roots. Ashley with Ulta does it right and I'm always happy when I leave the salon. She also always asks before I leave if I want any further layering or trim to make sure it's how I envision it. This is the only salon I will go to as long as Ashley is there and I continue to get the cut and color I want. The other thing I appreciate is that if I want something like a style done for an event, if she doesn't know it she refers me to someone at the salon who does. Great location. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. However, the drugstore selection is not always well-stocked or organized. Interior is clean, bright fluorescent tube lighting. I just want to take a moment to recommend Mayra from the Lancome counter. She is very nice and incredibly helpful. She helped me find a foundation match from the Lancome line and it is perfect! She listened to what I had to say about what I am comfortable with and what I was looking for. She also has a great eye for colors and choosing colors that flatter your skin tone. Mayra was knowledgeable about the products and was more interested in helping me find the products that fit for me, and did not try to push me to buy just anything. Because of her excellent customer service and skill with makeup, I will definitely return to this Ulta and have her help me find new colors or try out a new look. I highly recommend you seek Mayra out if you stop in to this store. I also want to say that Vanessa and Teresa from the Benefit Brow Bar are masters with eyebrow waxing! They are so friendly and talented. This is definitely my new spot for getting my eyebrows waxed. The money you spend on the waxing services is well worth it and they do a phenomenal job. Like a few other reviews, good luck trying to get help from a sales associate here because this location is ALWAYS understaffed. Whether it's a weekend, or a Wednesday morning. I've walked out more often than not because there is no one around to help. On the off chance there is someone on the sales floor, it's a rep from one of the cosmetic lines and not an actual Ulta employee. After reading a few of the bad reviews, I think it's so hysterical why other customers complain. Bottom line, those complainers either didn't get their way or don't fully comprehend that they're hair isn't going to compromise to exactly how it needs to be to get the style they want. And I know some of them probably try to work the system and when they don't get a good deal on their end, hell breaks lose. I've worked customer service before and you get all kinds of crazies! Why are all the employees above talking to customers? Every single time I shop here the employees are standing around talking about their sales goals, and how much they need to make to hit that goal. Sooooo if you're so obsessed with sales, maybe you should actually help customers. I love this store! I always feel really welcomed and they are happy to answer any of my questions. I never feel as if I'm a burden. The makeup selection here is massive and they always have what I need. They even have more drugstore type brands along with the luxury brands. The girls were more than lovely to help out a beginner like me to more luxury makeup brands and took extra care in explaining products to me. Sometimes you get a girl who will push her specific brand a little too much (as in the girls who "run" specific brand sections) and it doesn't feel like a genuine product reccomendation; but that's a very small issue, really nitpicking at this point. You can always talk to someone else instead! Many of the girls are very balanced in their reccommendations and honest. In fact, a girl today took me around to three different brands to help me find exactly what I needed. I ended up spending $144. Haha. And I'll be back soon! read more

I frequent many different ULTA's and I have to say this is one of the good ones. I walked in today with my friend looking for a specific OPI nail polish and some dry shampoo. They were out of the nail polish I was looking for but were quick to tell me when they received shipment and that they could take my info to let me know if it came in. That was pretty amazing when I'm sure they don't have to do that. I was also looking for a dry shampoo, I found the Oscar Blondie one I already own but a guy that was merchandising in the same isle was quick to show me another dry shampoo that he said sold out quite a bit, was very popular and also cheaper. Needless to say we grabbed it and went on our way. I haven't used the product yet but am very happy with my visit there. read more

This review is only for the Benefit Brow Bar. Vanessa is the best person I've ever had doing my brows. She is really easy to talk to and really tries to get to understand how you like your brows done. She also always offers to cover you up, since it is pretty common to look a bit red after getting your brows waxed. At first paying $20 for brows seemed a little much, but she always does such amazing job that after I pay and look at my brows, it's definitely worth it! Normally, I go to the Ulta in Carlsbad, which is closer to my home, but I'm willing to drive to the one further away simply because I feel like I get treated better at this one. It's pretty ridiculous the amount of looks I'll get and not a single offer to help me shop. I've been a platinum member for years, I spend my money here because I like their products and points system but I'm really thinking about stopping supporting a place that never makes me feel welcomed. I've had a FEW pleasant experiences and I wish I had remembered their names because they actually were really informative about the products they recommended for me and one item is now a holy grail of mine. I'm sort of a simple girl and habit of creature so venturing out and about just to buy makeup isn't high on my list of priorities. I was out of work extremely early and felt like pampering myself with a professional hair straighten, so I called Ulta to see if they had any availability on short notice. I was impressed with the service and how fast I could come in (30 mins). I had the hair fusion flat iron service and for $38 it was superb. My hair was straight and still looked healthy. I hardly ever go to a salon. My hair was a complete disaster and I had no idea if my hair was even fixable. I wish I had a before and after picture to show cos what Chelsea did to my hair is unbelievable. If you are looking for a new hair stylist or aren't happy with yours then go see Chelsea and you will not be disappointed! I have never had hair this beautiful! Her skills are amazing! She had to do some extreme color correcting on me and she made my hair look and feel healthy again I will now be seeing Chelsea every 4-6 weeks and never letting another person ever do my hair! So make your appointment with Chelsea and you will not regret it! She has product knowledge so after she gives you an amazing new look she can also educate you on products that are best for your hair. I have never left a salon happier! read more

I don't know why this store doesn't open until 11 o'clock on Sundays when tillys next-door is open before as well as many stores in this area. Ulta; you're losing customers and possible sales with this extra hour on sundays. Compete with Sephora. It's especially off putting when we can see the employees inside laughing to eachother as people come up to the door and don't realize that it's (still) closed and to make it worse they don't even acknowledge the customer. After only going to Sephora for a decade, I decided to finally try Ulta because there is a store pretty close to my house & also, because I appreciate that they're not solely located in malls (like Sephora), but they have actual stand-alone buildings for when you just need to pop-in & out quickly. During my first visit I had a couple of sales people check-in with me on the floor while shopping which I appreciated but also politely declined for the time being. Then when checking out, I ended up waiting about 10 minutes. There was only one person behind the counter ringing customers up but 3-4 employees on the floor. Anyways, I waited, bought my stuff, signed up for their rewards program & was told they were all out of the samples that I should have received but was given substitutes (I didn't care because I was just happy for free samples). Next visit, EXACT SAME experience. Additionally, when checking out this time, no one told me how to use my points, what their rewards program entails or even offered me free samples this time. I believe I finally came back one more time and again had a very similar encounter. I recall leaving less than impressed and thinking I guess I'll go back to Sephora (or Amazon) and just mail order stuff from now on. I actually decided to give Ulta one last chance, except I went to a different location just to make sure it wasn't only the Oceanside location.
