This review is only for Cynthia Martinez at the Salon!! I went in to get a balayage and a haircut. Cindy is the SALON MANAGER and was pretty rude from the beginning, but I didn't let that bother me. I thought, as long as she does a good job it doesn't matter. She finished and I went home and as soon as I got home I realized how bad it actually was. There were lines in my hair so you could see exactly where it went from light to dark and there were so many bumps in the color. I called and made an appointment to fix it. When I got there, she told me that she still had a few people in front of me, so I was not seen until 1:40pm when my appointment was at 1pm. Again, she was pretty rude and said she couldn't see where the problem was, acting like I made it up. She was almost blaming it on me saying that the color I picked was too light and the reason it's messed up is because I have such thick hair. All she did was add some highlights and I basically went home with the same hair I came in with. Overall, this was a terrible experience. As a professional, when you mess up, you should be mature enough to admit it and fix the problem, not blame the customer. I can't believe I paid so much money for this and I'm stuck with horrible hair! UPDATE: Ruhie from Ulta called and offered a refund for this service. I've been getting facials from Genevieve at the Dermalogica Skin Bar for 10 months now and my skin has gone from being dehydrated and riddled with jawline cystic acne to clear and even-toned after just a few sessions. I've tried the microdermabrasion and salicylic acid peels, and have seen great improvements in my skin with both. Genevieve has a wonderful calming presence and makes you feel comfortable whether you feel like being chatty or quiet. She also takes her time to asses your skin and listen to your concerns before recommending a service. I also appreciate that she is never pushy with product and will always let you try something out before making a purchase. On a scale of 1-10, I give Genevieve a solid 20! This location specifically....what's up with the security? I tend to stay from this ulta for that very reason, but had other business to take care of in this shopping center and decided to pop in, since the store was right there. I was looking for a fragrance only they seem to carry in-store (how unfortunate!!). The fragrances are displayed right up front upon entering so I was in full view of security (who was standing at the doors). This woman left her post and followed me to that section... I turned around and was startled to find her eyeballing me-ew. Before I knew it, another employee appeared and just stood there clocking my every move, shamelessly,with that security guard signaling to her- IN FRONT OF MY EYES,NOT EVEN DISCREETLY, to watch me, as if I was lowly enough to steal their busted up perfumes! It was mortifying and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. Who the hell do you take me as??I left not purchasing anything! Y'all work at Ulta...in no way SEPHORA standards, let me reiterate and make that crystal clear, since you all are no where near up to par to be acting that bougie. Shelves are consistently empty, out of stock inventory and overall kept nasty with products often opened or smeared on the displays. So for you to be eyeing customers and treating them as thieves is beyond me. Redirect that poor employee training into cleaning up your store and act! Went for the $30 first time customer cut and style in the salon. The salon was clean, bright and the hair stylist was a lovely young lady. Yes, she was really nice but I left so unhappy I have curly hair so when I go for a hair cut, I like it be blown out - its a treat for me. The cut was good, no issues there. The blow-out was the worst I've ever had. The stylist kept spraying a 'heat protector' product on my hair.My poor hair was not exactly straight but it was definitely frizzy, and looked dried out. She sprayed so much product that my hair lacked shine and body. The product was all over my forehead and on the sides of my face. My hair was stiff and the product hardened up in clumps on the top of my head. I could not get home fast enough to wash my poor mistreated hair. Thought I'd get a first class hair treatment at Ulta, oh well. My guess is that the stylist needs to go back to school. read more

I come here to get the products that are exclusive to Ulta rather than Sephora. Recently, I have found myself having preference to this beauty store more frequently than I had in the past due to their extensive stock of professional hair care products to maintain my hair (great sales on these products as well). Ulta has an amazing reward system that gives you cash back rather than samples and they also have been carrying more lines of mid-priced cosmetics - which Is my cup of tea. This particular Ulta is enjoyable to shop in (so is Atlas Park in general), however I find that their security guard follows customers around a bit too blatantly and it is off-putting, otherwise this is a nicely organized and stocked beauty store. read more

This Ulta Beauty Supply location is the first one I've ever been to. I've recently visited a separate location in Elm Hurst but that location wasn't nearly as good. The Ulta Beauty Supply at Atlas mall is roomy and clean and has all the products I need at all times. It is a busy store but the location in which the store is located makes it that there aren't too many people at once and products don't sell-out as quickly. This store sells exclusive, high-end products (Urban Decay, Dior, Tarte, Laura Mercier) as well as drug store brand cosmetics (Maybelline, Revlon, NYX). There is also a hair salon within, which can be paid for, in part, with the various coupons that Ulta offers on a weekly basis. At Ulta, you can buy cosmetics, accessories, hair tools (including straightening irons, blow dryers and curling sets), hair products such as shampoos, conditions, leave-in-conditions and hair dyes. You can buy nail products (including polish, polish remover, and manicure sets). There are also a wide selection of make up stands and make up carrying cases. If you are into beauty, I highly suggest you visit this Ulta location for all your beauty needs! read more

Beware of the Security Guard following you around the whole store!! Super confused on why the security guard has to follow me around the whole store lol . Every time i turned around the security guard was right next to me. I obviously came to the store to purchase stuff, why would I go in there to steal? This isn't the first time this happened. But I recently came in and the young security guard wouldn't stop following me lol ! After I made my purchase I came back into the store to buy something I forgot and right away the security guard made his way to me. I had to laugh in his face because he looked ridiculous going after someone who's paying for their merchandise. Went in to have my roots colored. Was serviced by Juan Carlos. He was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. I loved the way the color looked when finished. The only area of improvement is around my blow out. My hair was tangled after being washed. He did not comb through my hair before the blow out. As such, my hair was being pulled more than I've ever experienced. Chunks of my hair were left on the floor of the salon post-blow out. I will go back. I only request that they be a little more gentle!!! read more

I went to the grand opening and redeemed a coupon for a free salon service. I received a Dermalogica 20-min treatment since my skin breaks out a lot. They do facials in the back of the store, but it's hard to see it. Gen was very professional and knowledgeable about the product line. She gave me a lot of good advice on my skin, but wasn't pushy. As a hair and makeup artist, I am a devoted Ulta shopper and this is my favorite location! Neat, clean, convenient, friendly staff- all with a Starbucks next door!- simply the best in Queens! I've been a weekly guest since they opened the store in The Shops at Atlas Park and am also a huge fan of their beauty rewards program. Yesterday, I finally decided to give their Benefit Brow Bar a chance. I don't know what took me so long to try this- I loved it! I booked an eyebrow waxing with Jessica and she was absolutely amazing. She took her time, explained about brow shape and how it should look. She also did a technique called "brow mapping" where she outlined the shape of what my brows should look like with a darker Benefit brow powder, and then showed me in the handheld mirror before any waxing or plucking began so that I could weigh in on the shape, etc. Such attention to detail is a welcomed change from the smaller local nail salons and "spas" where you are whisked behind a curtain, smeared with cheap-o wax and 1-2-3 done. That is thankfully not the case here at Ulta. Jessica was an amazing esthetician / brow tech and I will definitely be returning to her for my brow upkeep. My experience was awesome and my brows have never looked better! I highly recommend! read more

I booked at this Ulta salon over a month in advance, to get my hair and makeup done for my bridal shower happening on Saturday, August 18th. I was so excited to get my hair and makeup done for my shower, and I confirmed TWICE the week of, because it was so important to me. The morning of, as my fiance and I are DRIVING to my 10am appointment, I get a call that my stylist called out and they are cancelling. This was 9:45, for my 10am appointment, for my shower at NOON. When I expressed that my shower was at noon that same day, they asked if I would like to schedule for 2pm the following day. They made no attempt to try to get another stylist to take me that morning, even after I mentioned that it was the day of my bridal shower and I had this booked for over a month. Prior to this, I never had a bad experience at Ulta, however I will NEVER book them again for any kind of salon service. Completely irresponsible and unprofessional staff. read more

I come into this location very frequently and always am satisfied in purchasing makeup, hair products, whatever it is I am shopping for that day. With that, I decided to get a natural glam makeup look done for a last minute event and it was so, so awful. The artist, Nicole, did not do my makeup at all the way I had asked and as soon as I got home, I wiped it all off and was so upset. I asked for a natural glam makeup with a lash and she completely did not follow the inspo pics I showed her and left me with a bold lip, eyeliner, thick lashes, and bright pink blush. The appointment was supposed to be an hour and took two. I have watery eyes, this I know and told her before the appointment began, yet she was unable to apply lashes on me and my eyes watered (like I said they would) and the entire face makeup was ruined and she had to start all over and used different products since the first time was so cakey and awful. I left clearly unhappy and took all the makeup off, even the lashes I paid for, as soon as I got home and did my own makeup. I came in for a facial and haircut super last minute. I had Genevieve for my facial and for the $10 express facial it was great. She customized my facial to help my skin. My haircut, done by Christine was great! I came in with over processed dry, damaged hair. After cutting off a solid 6/7 inches of broken, brittle hair my hair is healthier at a long bob length. I've been coming to this location more and more. Although it's a bit out of the way, I find the staff much friendlier and willing to assist. The layout of the store is great and not cluttered. I do find they are usually in stock of popular items. I do have to mention I did have 1 visit where I was brushed off by an assistant, clearly followed by the security guard and a very dry interaction when I checked out. I purchased a ton of stuff and I opened up a card with them that day. I was being super nice too. Even my husband noticed all of this. I took away a star because I've lived in three other states, where I've visited Ulta plenty of times. This Ulta is definitely the 'stingiest' when it comes to giving free samples from behind the counter. Even compared to the other Queens location. This review is only for the salon. I went to have their special "Bang Trim/Neck Trim" for $12 dollars. I had the back trim and sideburns trim so it wouldn't stick up. Trim, trim, trim and a slight two second blow dry with a dime worth of mousse. Final bill without the 20% coupon $41 dollars. Are you kidding me?! A full cut with blow dry is only $36 dollars, WTF. I was told by the cashier Juan Carlos is a tier 2 stylist so the prices is a little higher for his services. No where on the price list does it say prices may vary according to tiers, so basically it was all made up. I expected to pay a little more for the 2 second blow dry but not more than triple the listed price. What a rip off. Buyers beware, and ask the price beforehand. And PS, I usually get the same trim for $10 and a $5 dollar tip. read more

I see there isn't more in depth comments here but I'll share my experience the past Saturday. After a horrible experience in Rego Park, I was hoping Glendale would do better... they did! However 3 stars because I was ignored for a good 15 min of wandering around to see if any associate would approach me. However when I asked the girl in the register for help I FINALLY got it. All of sudden from silent sales associates to a friendly make up artist and friendly associates. Silly me had to Ask Seek Knock thanks to the make up artist my foundation FINALLY matches my tone...I hated avoiding the fact that I'm pale as snow, but its the truth...doesn't mean its easy finding a tone. Some colors either look to chalky on me, too pink or too yellow, I use to mix foundation powders to come close to my skin. I was shocked that it was empty on a Saturday Afternoon but it may be due to the location at Atlas Park Mall. Even thought it's 2 bus rides from my home I will return to this Ulta as a customer.
