It' just too bad I can't give zero stars. That's what this place deserves. I stopped by one Sunday afternoon, not looking for anything in particular. I had never been to an ULTA store before and wanted to see what it was all about. The salesgirl Ariel after giving me the mandatory greeting disappeared. Except she didnt. I would look back occasionally and watch her covertly observing me, making sure I didn't steal anything. And yes as you guessed it Iam a minority race. I decided to ignore her and went about my business. She showed up at checkout and was extremely rude and unpleasant when I asked her to honor a sale notice on the shelf. It said buy one get one half off. But she refused and at this point began to speak condescendingly to me, like I was the one that could not do the math! I finally got sick of the whole thing and paid full price even though I should have got the sale price. All in all a wasted Sunday afternoon and a lot of unnecessary unpleasantness. Ulta is a fabulous place to buy your tried and true favs and to try new and fun ones. Their return policy is fantastic. And the rewards program and benfits are outstanding. I get a 20% coup on prestige and drug store brands every month or so. The people that work there are for the most part amazing! The manager of the salon is fantastic and Vee is also super awesome with hair. They do a great job on brows and the tint she used looked perfect. I wouldn't suggest getting your special event makeup done there though. We had a horrifying experience the day of my brothers wedding. They also didnt do anything for us for the horrible makeup application. But I have been a very loyal customer of the redmond ulta for years and besides the mess up on our makeup the day of wedding, i recomend them highly. read more

This is a pretty decent ULTA. I mean, really they're all about the same, they've all got the same layout, same stuff. People who work there are nice, the parking lot is ok. One of the sales ladies helped me find the right shade of powder. I've generally gotten very good assistance finding products from the people who work here, and have been happy with the products I have purchased. Better range of prices than Sephora. I don't buy a ton of makeup, and lately I have been buying most of my makeup at Atomic Cosmetics. But, when I need something I can't get there, or can't afford to go there, Ulta is my next favorite spot. read more

I'm not going to lie, I was extremely surprised with the ULTA I stepped into today. I only bring it down one star for two reasons: nobody greeted me for the first 15 minutes I spent walking around the store, which I thought was a unusual. Second, they were out of stock of a /lot/ of products, which was disappointing. But! The sales associate that approached me was very friendly, understanding, and knowledgeable about the products (all very important to me). She and I had an excellent conversation about cosmetics, and she gave some great tips and opinions. She seemed very candid and genuinely wanted to help me. I also like that they carry a variety of higher-end and lower-end cosmetics: everything from NYX to Too Faced. Also, all the testers and counters were very clean, which was a relief to see. They are supposed to be rolling out a new program in February that provides better rewards for their customers (or so the SAs told me) -- so that's very, very exciting. I'm looking forward to it. Overall, I think I prefer my experiences in shopping at Sephora BUT I was very pleased with my experience at ULTA today, and will be back for those cosmetics that I cannot find at Sephora (like Lorac, NYX, Real Techniques, etc.). read more

I love Ulta....I always have, and I've shopped at Ulta stores since I was old enough to wear make-up. This store is great as well and I love the layout! They have cheap stuff and high end products...I loved the wall of hair dryers. I purchased a hair dryer at Sephora a couple of months ago and I had to ask the sales lady to find one so that I could turn it on and see how loud it was (I don't want to wake my baby at night so a quiet dryer was a priority). It would have been much better to be able to try them all out without disturbing anyone.... They have Crackle nail polish in virtually every color, which is a plus as they are usually always sold out at various drug stores. The only reason they lost a star is because I really didn't get much help...I went mid-day during the week and there were about 4 employees- one of them answered some of my basic questions, but she seemed pretty annoyed with me... :( The cashier was really friendly though!!!! I originally had an appointment at the crossroads branch a few days ago, until it was cancelled. As a a means of apology, I received an appointment today at this branch. Again my appointment got cancelled at the last minute. This is entirely unacceptable, especially as I booked this to get ready for my beloved niece's wedding day! Furthermore, the staff was rude when breaking the news to me, and were entirely unsympathetic to my situation. In short, two appointments cancelled at the last minute. I don't even want to give this place any star after a terrible experience I had last Saturday (02/27 at 2:00 P.M). I was a first time customer at this salon and booked an appointment online 3 weeks in advance with Alex (Salon Manager) for keratin treatment. On Friday I received the call from Salon to confirm on my appointment, and was told that "we look forward to see you on Saturday". When I reached the Salon for my appointment , Stephanie told me that I will do your hair and you are late your appointment was at 1:45, I showed her the appointment confirmation email and she said that's fine. (by this time I was unaware that she is not Alex). She started with the treatment and mid way through the treatment she mentioned that she is not Alex and Alex had some work and she handed over the case to me. She is a junior stylist and I wanted to have some one more experienced to handle my hair therefore I was ready to pay highest and booked appointment with Alex. She said since you are "FIRST TIME CUSTOMER" Alex said it does not matter. I asked her that why I was not informed earlier atleast a call to tell me if I want to keep this appointment or not. She said I can leave you now (very rude) in the middle of the treatment. I choose to continue as was not sure what will be the impact of the half done treatment. Stephanie did my hair very abrasive all through the treatment. She went ahead and charged me for some color safe product $48, which she used without my permission. I complained about this at the front desk and asked them where can I complain about this, she said "oh that's bad, I will look into the issue, please scan your card." I walked out with a bad experience being the FIRST TIME CUSTOMER of that Salon. I would like to give message to Alex being a salon manager, be professional, you should have some courtesy to honor the customer's decision and inform them in advance if you are not going to be available. People avoid this salon, and Stephanie for sure. what a waste of my $250. read more

I went into the shop yesterday because I was fresh out of foundation. I have very cool toned skin, so it is always hard to find the right match. The one I picked out was way too warm, so I went back in to exchange it. Sydney walked me over and must have tried six different foundations to make sure I got the perfect one. Because of the demographic in the area it can be difficult to find someone to assist you with color matching etc. including the fact that ulta does not cater to the minority. I go here a lot because they have a slew of cruelty-free products. I love that they have an inexpensive cruelty-free brand that has an awesome variety of great eyeshadows. I went in the morning once, and there was nowhere to be found to assist me. I'd love if they had a list somewhere of cruelty free, or vegan products. I did buy a face powder once, only to find when I got home that it was used (ew) and it was not even the right color. So I had to drive all the way back to the store (I live in Kirkland - this store is in Redmond) to exchange. They did exchange, no questions asked...but of course, they didn't have the same powder, so I had to switch. I do like that I can go in and get color matched, or have someone do my makeup. I also love that they provide ALL products - stuff I can find in regular drug stores, to salon brands. One stop shop, I'm happy to keep shopping there! read more

ULTA= crack! When they first opened my mom took me in, and 2 hours later gave me a mini-intervention. It's a Sephora surrogate for the plateau... so much makeup, perfume, hair tools, nail polish, etc. After several more visits the novelty has worn off, but I have NEVER been able to leave without something. Overall, ULTA hasn't necessarily become my go-to for beauty supplies (i.e. it's not the first place I think to go when I want face wash or hair spray, etc). ***This review is about my salon experience with J who is one of the master stylists at Ulta Redmond*** Let me start off by saying that my hair is NOT easy. I have a thick head of fine, temperamentally curly (2c/3a depending on the day) hair that has a mind of it's own when responding to color. Needless to say, when getting my hair done, I never expect miracles. On top of it all, everyone in my family has thick, straight (Asian) hair...which meant I was taught to care for my hair as if it were like theirs ie. brushing it and lots of heat...not to mention the wrong products, if any. Over the past couple years and tons of YouTube videos later, I'm much better and confident with embracing my natural curls...and needed a stylist who could cut curly. Impulsively one day, I decided I needed to do something with my hair IMMEDIATELY. Ulta was the only place That had openings for a full color & cut. I was a bit skeptical of going to a chain salon instead of a boutique but figured I had nothing to lose. PROS: * Scheduling was quick and easy. Was able to get an appointment for the next day. Staff were friendly and accommodating. My appointment started right on schedule with no wait. * J was friendly, personable and made the overall experience fun. * I showed her a couple pictures, explained my hair situation and told her to have at it and do her thing. Besides the general shape of the cut, I told her to do whatever she wanted with color (though no pinks, purples, blues, etc.); my hair was her canvas. *This tends to be my approach to color; I want something different but don't exactly know or care what that means, just different. Surprisingly to me, I've have more stylists than not get seemingly annoyed by this. J couldn't be more happy and excited! * For the first time, I LOVE my color. LOVE. She did what I always wanted but thought I couldn't have. I have dark brown hair and she's taking me much lighter but is doing it in a way that it doesn't look unfinished; it just looks better each time. * Color takes quite a bit of time & a lot of times, I've had stylists try to squeeze 1 or 2 clients in while my hair is processing. That doesn't work for me. With the weird things my hair does with color and having a friend get significant chemical burns on her scalp from over processing and inattention...it's a deal breaker for me. This was not my experience with J. * based on my experience, I would undoubtably recommend her. ON THE FENCE: * the cut. I have only seen her twice with the second time being yesterday. My initial appointment, I arrived with my hair thrown up into a messy bun so she had no way of knowing what my curls looked like. the cut left my hair with the dreaded triangle-tree look. Typically, that's why I get my hair cut in the first place-to get rid of the tree shape. Straightened, it looked great though I'd like to minimize straightening my hair to help maintain more definite curls, whatever. Not a big deal. * yesterday, I went to the appointment with my hair worn curly and actually made it a point to explain what I hoped to avoid. * I wasn't too excited about the product and technique she used to style my hair, definitely not how to get defined curls. I haven't wore my hair curly yet so we'll see how it looks. Maybe I have to go back to getting cuts @ VAIN and go to J for color. Regardless, I AM THRILLED with J and couldn't be happier with her color skills!!! read more

Came home after my haircut and noticed the back of my hair was not even blowed out! "J" the stylist came really recommended and charges 57 dollars for a haircut because she is the master stylist. I probably would have been better at Great clips at this point. Not worth the money. I can't even see the layers! read more

Salon: I have my hair done by Jess and she is the best!! Super friendly and listens to what I want and makes it better than I had originally thought! She is very creative. The manager and the rest of the staff are also extremely nice and fun to talk to. Store: My favorite Ulta I have ever been to! I have visited a few in WA and other states but this one by far is the best one. Very organized and the staff is very nice and willing to help with anything in the store. Overall: AWESOME read more

I went to this store three weeks ago to get new foundation and concealer. I had a list of brands I had researched and was interested in. The sales associate talked me into a foundation that was not on my list, was expensive and is ok at best. I shouldn't have let her do that and it is on me. I got the concealer brand I wanted, but after finding my perfect match we discovered they had run out of my color. I was ready to come back, but she told me that the next color darker was also a good match. When I got home I realized my concealer was substantially darker than my new foundation. I was able to bring that back and exchange it, but I feel like shopping at Ulta is like going into a used car lot. At Sephora I feel like they are on my side and have always helped me instead of focusing on sales. Be on your guard at Ulta. read more

Ulta is one of my go-to stores for beauty products. They generally have a great selection, minus a couple random items (clear hair rubber bands?) and employees are friendly and helpful. I love that I can find a combination of higher-end and drugstore brands! Anything to cut down on an extra trip to Bellevue Square! I love getting their coupons in my mailboxes and use them frequently. However, they recently changed their policy and now exclude more items, including OPI nail colors. The coupons really aren't as useful anymore but at least they have a list of exclusions at the counter and online. The line can also be a nightmare, even with multiple cashiers. The process on the registers seems to take a long time even though employees always seem to work quickly. Anyway, this store is one of my favorite locations, especially in comparison to Northgate. read more

I don't get it. Ok, Ulta has most products, but they are almost always in a discount strip center with (seemingly) inexperienced help. Why would one shop for cosmetics here and pay full price, when you can go to Nordstrom or Macys, pay the same price, be helped by someone expert in specific product/company, AND get a gift with purchase. (I asked and Ulta doesn't do gift with purchase....I would understand if they were discount). Do not go to the Redmond location for eyelash extensions! The woman glued my lower and upper lids together. She takes 4 hours for a terrible job. Stay away! She should not be allowed to charge clients. I have had my lashes done well over 10 times at various different locations. It was never this bad. read more

My review is for Hair Salon inside the ULTA. I would give no star if possible. My daughter in high school had the worst experience by Roger. He showed up late for the appointment and was already in bad mood. He was rude and not happy while the appointment. My daughter has long hair her bust line, and he made her stand the entire time while cutting her hair. She didn't know why but she was afraid of asking him questions or thinning her hair. So she didn't get what she really want. I didn't leave her alone if I knew he will treat customer like that. When I picked her up, she claimed to me that she never ever go back to the salon again. We called the salon and tried to talk with manager. He/she wasn't available so we left the message, but hasn't heard from them. read more

Bad salon experience. I came in asking for a single color, just to match my roots. Dark brown. Hard to mess up, I had done it before. Just wanted quality color. My hair had warmth from highlights prior. The hairstylist, who I will not name because despite everything was very kind, turned my hair bright violet. I was devastated. They offered to fix it, and now my hair is jet black. I am very disappointed, this isn't a proper way to carry out a service. I wish I had demanded my money back. I will have to see both this black and hideous purple for another month, or as long as I have to viciously scrub it with cheap shampoo 3x a day. Not cool. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I have been going to Ulta for 5 years for haircuts and color, I am 97% gray. It shocks me to see disparaging comments, as I have seldom experienced it. The young ladies at check out are always friendly and helpful, assisting me with using my Ulta points to get the most benefit, Christina helped check me out today, she was quick, courteous to everyone in line. In skincare there is a woman who looks a bit like Jane Seymour who always ask if she may be of help. She is non intrusive and turned me onto a beautiful Origins serum, no pressure just solid information. Love that! I like the Salon, good products and advice, I don't get my hair totally colored evertime, which helps the budget. When I was working out of town, I tried a salon in my hotel. The ppl were more interested in themselves than being of service. Couldn't wait to get back to J and Gayle at Ulta in Redmond! read more

See Sarah at Redmond ULTA I have curly hair and I'm very careful who I have cut my hair, since it can get frizzy or the length is all wrong after it dries...it can be hard to find someone who can understand how curly hair can behave. I have lucked out finding Sarah at ULTA!! I was to the point where I just needed to get my hair done, and saw some of the ULTA salons had people that were Deva-curl educated (love those products too!) Not sure if Sarah is Deva-curl cert, but I really like how she has cut and colored my hair! I've been back to her a couple times, and she is consistent and does a great job!! I cannot understand why it's so difficult to use points, coupons/codes or anything out of the ordinary. Customer service is very sporadic; some more helpful than others. I did notice while I was browsing that at least three sales associates were gathered around the cashier station just chatting. I'm a makeup freak and drop a few hundred on cosmetics a month, but every time I visit this location, one of two things happens: a) they are out of something crucial that I need, or b) the workers are all so busy chatting among themselves it takes 10+ minutes to help me when I obviously have a question about something. I enjoy the Federal Way location as well as the Factoria Location. My very least is the Redmond store. The service is terrible. I spend a couple of hundred dollars every time I go to Ulta. I'm also a rewards member. The other stores I mentioned treat me like a VIP with customer service and free samples. I have had the most awful experience here in the Redmond Ulta , their customer service is terrible . So unprofessional, I purchased a curling iron which doesn't suit my hair after been recommended it by a sales representative in the ulta store . I returned it today to exchange with my receipt for a thinner barrel curling iron the exact same brand and they would not exchange it or give me store credit nothing because I didn't have the box !!! No where on the receipt does it say I would have to have anything but my receipt . No where does it say I need the box . I am waiting a response from the district manager on this as neither customer service or store manager could help me. Obviously I will not be purchasing anything in the future from ulta .
