I went to the New Sephora that just opened two weeks ago. Was met with over made-up child, who was unhelpful AF! I wasn't even in there 5 minutes, before walking out and going to Ulta. Drove to Ulta and was met by nice, mature women, whose make-up was done tastefully! I have cancer and am in chemo. I wanted new make up to do my face up, before shaving my head. Because my hair was coming out fast and furious. The women here were helpful. I picked out my make up! Spent a few hundred dollars. Too bad for you Sephora. I have 6 daughters and 10 granddaughters! In the past, I've always bought them Sephora Gift cards. Today that has all stopped. From now on it is only Ulta Gift cards. Thank you Ulta for treating ALL women like they matter! I'll be honest--I don't visit this store often. The main reason is that they don't carry everything in stock, and many items are online-order only. When I do go inside, it's hit or miss in terms of what's available. I've ordered a few things online for in-store pickup. The staff was friendly, but having to show ID to collect your items felt a bit odd, though I understand it's their policy. Once your order is ready, you'll receive an email with a QR code that needs to be scanned at pickup. I've heard they're opening a new location in Pittsford Plaza, where Bed Bath & Beyond used to be, which is great news! This location has plenty of shared parking, so it's easy to navigate. read more

I cannot recommend Rachel enough! Not only is she an extremely creative and artistic stylist who always does exactly what I want, but her customer service is absolutely stupendous. Recently, she had a fully booked schedule, yet she went out of her way to fit in a last-minute haircut for my daughter, who is getting married soon. It was a huge favor, and she did a superb job. My daughter was so impressed that she now wants Rachel to be her permanent hairdresser. Rachel truly goes above and beyond for her clients. Her commitment to her craft and to making things work for me is a testament to the kind of person she is. If she does it for me, I know she does it for everyone. On Tuesday August 19th at 7:52 we were trying to explain to the cashiers that we did a happy return from edikted and we only received one coupon. Two returns were done so we were supposed to get two coupons they were talking back and forth the one with brow hair was rolling her eyes they were very seemingly annoyed with us. Ulta Beauty is usually the middle tier for makeup/cosmetics for those are trying to figure out the tiers of beauty chain stores. It is a tier about beauty supply stores, but below mall establishments like Lancome, Elemis, Trish Mcelroy, etc. In general, I find that most of their employees up and down the east coast are way over made up, thick and coated, and rarely anyone who sports a nice natural clear look. In other words, if you're someone who loves contour and dramatic make up, then this is certainly a make up store. If you're looking for good skin regimen, then I honestly am not sure about some of these "skin experts' that this chain stocks. As someone who uses Elemis, and minimal stuff here's my take: Pricing: Overpriced on major brands. You best just go to Wegmans and pick up your Nivea Lotions OR head next door and go to Christmas Tree Shops and find a strangely more robust variety on shampoos/soaps on more affordable pricing. Good for: Picking up treats for girls night out/spa treatments/making a bridal box/goody box with fun colorful scented stuff but nothing that is super high quality that you best hit up a Nordstrom or mall. Secret Stashes? I like the clearance racks and if you snoop around the bath/skin places you can sometimes find steals for the close outs for good lotions, creams, face soaps that are otherwise too pricey for you to try out or a good treat to stock up on a rainy day. Whip out your phone for amazon or google if you want to see what you're getting is a good buy. I once got Nivea lotions on close out for 1$ each! Variety: Salon stuff in the back. Cheap generic make up in the front. Face stuff in the left side. There's a smaller rack for naturals like Tony Moly hanging around to check out. Experts: If you like the heavy make up look, your experts and examples on the floor are plenty. This is your place to get concealers, lipsticks, etc. No one had the fresh face great complexion look, so that turns me off in seeking consultation here. Recently went in to return something and both the cashier (I think her name was Mikayla) and the manager had a lot of attitude. I said Hi in a very nice tone and the cashier didn't even reply to me for a minute and didn't care to respond nicely when she did. I didn't feel welcome here honestly I felt stupid. This has been my go to Ulta for the last three years. I typically get my brows done at the benefit brow bar! I trust anyone there to touch my brows and make them come out flawlessly! I have seen Megan & Lexi the longest and they do a great job! Another service that I get done here are blowouts! They always get my hair done to perfection and it lasts such a long time. They give me insightful recommendations for hair products based on the services they are doing! I realized when I was here the other day I have never had a bad service or bad experience here! I have been coming to this Ulta location for years. There have been a few staffers that seem to have worked here for years which is generally a good sign to me of the management. The benefit brow bar is by far my favorite thing. Megan is my gurl, but Lexi is also excellent and has bomb brows. Go visit them. It's $21 for a brow wax. I usually make trips here semi-infrequently to pick up essentials that I can't find elsewhere (meaning Target/Wegmans). I also time my visit with the monthly coupons I get in the mail from their catalog - $3.50 off $10 or more. Standbys: - Concealer -- Benefit Erase Paste ($26). Although, they were out my most recent visit so I decided to try Philosophy's Miracle Worker concealer per the recommendation of the store employee. - I also picked up a mini Bliss fabulous foaming face wash -- my favorite face wash for traveling w/ micro beads for light exfoliation & it smells amazing. - Batiste dry shampoo -- my fave one is the cool & crisp fresh scent -- like perfume, perfect for in between shampoos and it's cheap! ~$7 - John Frieda Color Renew shampoo -- can't find this anywhere else. Great in between salon visits to keep blonde hair looking bright. - They have Hot Tools curling irons -- I got my tapered curling wand here for about $30 bucks with a coupon I got in the mail. - OPI -- it's hard not to resist picking up a new nail polish. - Check out their clearance section, often they have discounted drugstore brand products, eye lash curlers, makeup bags, etc. that are off season or OPI polishes for $5. Doesn't hurt to check it out. Other than that, the drugstore finds like Revlon, Neutrogena, etc. are marked up slightly so I stray from buying those and stick to the bigger brand names. Prices are on-par with Sephora, but Ulta is a quicker and easier trip for me so I opt for this location. read more

Really enjoy this store. Make-up, Cosmetics, Beauty care mixed with salon. I have had facials done here before and they were good, reasonably priced. They have some decent deals - sign up for the coupons and they send 20% whole order coupons every so often - just watch out for the exclusions! They also almost always have coupons to print off and use in store on their website. They also accept Manufacturers coupons, which is great. They have their own line of cosmetics and I love the gel eye liner - its awesome. They have a line of gel nail polish (Red Carpet) but the colors vary greatly from that on the bottles - so its not my favorite.The staff is helpful. They lose a star as lately the shelves haven't been stocked well and I have to buy what I would've wanted online and you have to usually spend $50 online to get free shipping. read more

Target is the ultimate "in-between" cosmetic store. With both Drug Store and select Prestige cosmetics, its a step up from, say, Target, but doesn't have quite the selection of Sephora. The best part of Ulta is that they accept both news paper coupons, and constantly send out their own coupons. I wont step foot in the store without one (if you're not on their mailing list, you can go to their website www.ulta.com to print one. It's usually either $3.50 off of $10 or 20% your total purchase with major restrictions on what qualifies). BUT - a few times a year they send out a 20% off coupon that can be used on select PRESTIGE cosmetics as well. This is like gold! Imagine 20% off Stila, Philosophy, Urban Decay etc. I believe you have to be on their mailing list/part of the rewards program, but it is so worth it. I got the Urban Decay Naked Pallet for 20% off - and I love it! read more

I am like a kid in a candy store here! My daughter (8 years old) and I love to have a girly shop in here. I do really like the fact they carry high end products as well as the drugstore brands... although yes you can get then cheaper at other retailers, it's convenient. The higher end products almost all displayed with a demo sample to try before you commit. One star off for the fact that a few times they have been out of a product I wanted in my shade ( this happened 2x on my last visit). All in all their selection is quite good, though. I love this place, it's heaven for me! I have shopped here several times and have walked out broke several times but it's all worth it. I usually buy perfumes or focus on the higher end makeup products that can't be found anywhere else in Rochester. I love Lorac, Nyx, and Urban Decay products and their selection is very extensive. They almost have every makeup brand minus Mac and Sephora. If you're looking for brands like Revlon, Covergirl, etc, please go to a department store, it's definitely cheaper. They also have a full service salon, I never tried it but they do answer questions thoroughly about the hair products and supplies. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because the price. Yesterday I went into Ulta with long beautiful, although a bit damaged, hair and came out looking like a middle aged Mom with hair that hardly passed my shoulders even though it was straightened. I have naturally curly hair so I'm definitely terrified to see how the cut looks after I wash it and let it dry, because I got about an inch of shrinkage while it was long. During our consultation before the cut one of the "senior stylists", Rachel, asked me if I wanted to go short, which I replied with a hard no and that I only wanted a couple inches off the bottom and my layers touched up. After looking at my hair more she held about 2 and a half inches of the ends up and asked if that was an okay amount to take off. I said that that was perfect and that was the length I was expecting to get taken off. As the appointment went on, I found it super weird that she not once cut my hair in front of me until she got to my face frame. By the time I realized that she had taken over 7 inches off of my hair it was too late. In addition to being extremely short the cut itself is really not suited for someone my age making it even worse. After the cut was over she said noting about the extra 5 inches she took off but instead kept saying how good it looked as if her opinion of this tragic hair cut would make me feel better. I made it not even 2 minutes before breaking down and crying in the bathroom while my sister checked out. I've never been so disappointed in my life over a haircut and have not stopped crying for over 12 hours, including an almost full blown panic attack when I got home and got a chance to finally look in the mirror. Attached are pictures of my hair a month and a half before the cut, a month before the cut and when I pulled my self together enough to take a picture of the cut. Overall I am so unimpressed by how even after confirming that I only wanted a trim and telling me she was only going to take off a few inches Rachel took away over half a foot of my hair. I have never before in my life experienced such blatant disregard for what I asked for in a haircut seeing that she gave me the literal opposite of what I asked for. For those of you who don't feel like reading my entire rant, I came in asking for a few inches off my long hair and walked out with a lob totally unfit for a young college student. read more

I've always shopped at the Ulta Beauty in Victor, NY, which is 4 miles away. But on 7/28/2018, I was stopped at the door. I've never had that problem before. I looked around and another woman walked in and no one stopped her at the door. I was embarrassed. I did not get a chance to see what I wanted. I felt as if I was not allowed to enter the store. Honestly, the only reason I'll ever come here is if I'm in a pinch and don't have the time to wait for something ordered online to arrive. I'll give them the fact that they do have a good selection, and it's hard to walk out empty handed. Both their higher end and drugstore brand sections have a lot to offer. The customer service though, is a different story. I've been here a few times, and every time, it's the same deal. I've been passed by sales associates more times than I can count. Maybe it's because I don't look like the type of person that's going to drop 60 bucks on an eyeshadow pallet, or maybe it's because I was on the "drugstore" (aka cheaper) side of the store. I watched people that walked in after me instantly get service. This more recent time was the worst though, I wandered around aimlessly looking for a specific product for about 10 minutes, even had an associate walk by, say hi, and just keep walking before I had the chance to even stop her to ask for help. So the aimless wandering continued, before I finally gave up and just waited in line at the register to ask someone where the item was. She pointed me to the area of the store it was, though, the item wasn't even the one in the picture I was looking for (similar, but still wrong). After about 5 more minutes of trying to find someone to ask, I was directed back to the registers where I eventually found what I was looking for (why the other girl didn't point me to the closer spot where they were was beyond me). Maybe it was just because it was a busy day, maybe it's me, but getting/finding help in this story is quite the undertaking. The only reason that this is getting 2 stars is that when I finally found the person that told me where to get what I needed, she was actually pleasant. I can usually navigate my way through Ulta without help. The floor beauty "experts" are hit or miss. Sometimes you have someone who actually is helpful with what you're looking for and isn't trying to upsell or sell you the most expensive item. Other times like earlier today, there were about 3-4 girls around the brow bar just chatting and laughing away and nobody asked customers walking in and browsing in that area (including myself) for any assistance, let alone greet us. Then to proceed with when checking out, the cashier didn't count the change to make sure she was giving me correct change, (I broke a big bill), I counted the bills in front of her, and she shortened me $10. Aren't cashiers nowadays trained to count the bills/change before giving them to customers? read more

Every time I go into this Ulta I leave excited!! I am always welcomed and always asked if I need help :) A women named Noel has helped me tremendously with makeup and today a women I think her name was Margaret( she had darker curly hair) helped me find the right face wash, toner and face lotion :) ! ! ! I was a bit skeptical at first of going here for a haircut. I have medium-long hair that's very curly, but the stylist Lea figured out from my babbling exactly what I wanted. She gave me a really nice length with good layers so that my hair doesn't get too big or frizzy. The style she did I wasn't crazy about, but once I washed it out I really really liked it. It was a bit pricey for a wash and a cut, but I was also pretty pleased with it, so overall I liked it and I'd go back. read more

I told them I was trans, and I was looking for advice, at which point I was immediately bounced between employees until I reached one who would only show me men's products. Will not return. This was a few months ago, so I don't remember names, but they were suggested to me by a friend as a "Trans friendly place" to get makeup tips, and I hope any trans woman looking for help see this, and know not to go there. read more
