The staff at this location seemed noticeably inconvenienced by customer questions, which made for a disappointing shopping experience. My total was over $600, yet the level of customer service did not reflect that. I was looking for several specific items and repeatedly asked for assistance. It was early on a Sunday, and not busy. Rather than helping, the associate simply pointed toward different display cases multiple times. It wasn't until I directly asked if she could spare a just few minutes to assist me that she reluctantly helped locate the items I needed. During the interaction, she rolled her eyes and appeared annoyed by the request. Overall, the experience felt unwelcoming and unprofessional. Given the level of service I received, I would not recommend this location. I am not looking for a reply, as a canned response to address my experience today would not feel genuine. My daughter and I stopped by this Ulta Beauty location in Mira Mesa with the intent to purchase some hair care products. We both tried the Dry Bar Detox dry shampoo since it was a brand we had not used before. There were bottles labeled "tester" so we tried them out before we committed to making a purchase. Within a matter of minutes, a sales staff approached us and asked if we used the dry shampoo. Of course, I said yes, and she immediately said "well you can't use those, they're not for testing. Why did you use them?" I replied that there were bottles with the "tester" label and I would never use a new product not intended for testing. We dismissed this incident as a misunderstanding and proceeded to walk away. We had only taken a few steps when another sales associate approached us and asked the same questions, making the same accusations. This second one was ruder than the first, as her tone was rather aggressive. I was annoyed, so in addition to repeating what I had just said to the other sales associate, I added that "you should know your merchandise before making accusations. I have more class than to use new supplies not intended for testing." She went to check out the bottles, to verify that I wasn't lying. The 2 sales associates made no attempts to apologize for being wrong. They were micro aggressive towards us. It was micro aggression because they implied that we were too cheap or couldn't afford to purchase the products. Mind you, it's Mother's Day so my daughter and I were both dressed in our pretty dresses, carried our designer handbags, and wore nice shoes. We definitely didn't look like poor Asians who just went to the store to use free products! Maybe just being Asian was the problem........ Never have I ever experienced such rudeness. I have never felt so utterly disrespected! I am deeply offended and will be sure to spread the word to my network of friends and Yelp followers to boycott this business. This tends to be one of my favorite two locations in San Diego. This location is well stocked and usually has what I need. The employees are normally friendly. Any time I place an order for pick up the orders are normally completed in less than an hour which is fantastic. The wait is usually only a few minutes. I've only had 2 issues with online orders it the past. Once I ordered a location and they gave me one that had been used, so I took it back in and they exchanged it. The other time I had ordered a Dyson hair dryer, not an cheap item and they gave me the wrong product. They gave me a Dyson Air Wrap set. I told the lady that my order was incorrect and she was actually upset with me for telling them. Maybe I should have kept the item that was over $100 more, but I was being honest and I wanted the hair dryer. Dani is so amazing. I came in looking for a complete re-do for base makeup. I have never established a good base / foundation routine so I came in to get help to build one from the group up. Dani in the mac makeup section absolutely killed it with helping me find everything I needed. I love how informative she is, and I love the hands on visuals of the products and how they work. Dani took her time to not only show me first hand how the products look and work on my skin tone, but she also helped explain how to use and layer each product with each other. I also would like to note that she recommended products based on my needs, my likes, and my dislikes. I have very oily skin so she was able to help curate an entire base routine for oily skin, while also still helping me get that all matte base while staying acne prone aware. I would say the entire experience was a 10 / 10. Not to mention, this is not the first time Dani has recommended a product that ended up being a complete game changer for me and my routine. I had shopped a while back specifically for a sharp and precise eyebrow felt tip for a more natural and full look. I met Dani and she recommended the benefit brow microfilling pen, she showed me what it looked like on my brows and I have used it as my go - to ever since. I love having the pen for in between days when I want fullness, but I am not going for a full glam look. Her offer to resolve the issue included: returning the taxes I'd paid on the recalled products and a gift card to replace the two mini size and the three full size items. Three months after I returned the recalled products, I finally received a check for the taxes I'd originally paid and a gift card to replace the mini items. The Guest Services Advocate did not send a gift card for the full size items, as outlined in her written December 29, 2024 resolution offer, and is not longer responding to my emails. Honest relationships, whether personal or business, are founded on trust. When a Guest Service Advocate offers a resolution through the Better Business Bureau and then changes the terms, after a customer accepts the resolution on good faith, it is a bad reflection on the company itself, it sets a bad precedence, and it sours the relationship. read more

To make matters worse, at one point I overheard her loudly telling a co-worker, not once but twice, "I called security so they can be outside." In addition to her conduct toward me, I observed this same employee acting controlling toward another team member at the register, raising concerns about how she engages with both customers and coworkers. Her loud comment about me not purchasing clearance items felt intrusive and unnecessary--especially when I was simply trying to browse and check prices, a normal part of the shopping experience. This experience made it difficult for me to shop peacefully or use the coupons Ulta sends to valued customers like myself. I often review items through the Ulta app while in-store to make informed decisions, but with this staff member hovering and making pointed remarks, I felt I had no space or freedom to do so. What was meant to be a routine and enjoyable shopping trip turned into an incident that felt like harassment, discrimination, bullying, and intimidation. This behavior is unacceptable under any circumstance, and I strongly urge leadership to take this matter seriously. I have already asked the store's operations manager to contact me and have left my phone number. I am respectfully requesting a call from leadership to better understand why I was treated this way and to ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent this from happening again--to myself or any other customer. She walked me through every single item I would need down to the brushes. For the first time I was given a perfectly shade matched foundation. The makeup she recommended me lasted me 8+ hours in Temecula summer (96+ degrees) with 0 touch ups. I was even wearing glasses on top of the makeup and when I got home I didn't have the indent of where my glasses were sitting on my nose, AFTER 8+ HOURS. I'm giving 4 stars because the first time that I went to this store, I was basically ignored. Lots of people working and talking - to each other and not helping customers. HOWEVER, the 2nd time that I went in , the lovely Ximena helped this old wrinkled, white lady - me, lol. She works at the MAC area, so you will basically be using their products. She helped me find a wonderful MAC concealer that works on at least hiding some of my underage circles and dark spots. There was a MAC day there one Saturday and Ximena did my make up and gave me some tips. She is really beautiful and delightful, not patronizing. I don't think that this Ulta has a person who works there using a variety of products, which is what I would like. I plan on getting a make up lesson from Ximena, you have to buy only $60 in MAC products and with the MAC prices, that's only 2 items. Their products are high quality. Ximena will help you find the colors that will suit you. Her make up is done beautifully and if you want a full on look, she'll definitely be able to hook you up. read more

That coupon must be popular as it got me to get off sofa and make special trip to buy hairspray that I love from here . I scheduled a makeup appointment three weeks in advance online. I had gotten a notification that my makeup artist had changed, so I called the location confirming I still had an appointment. There were no issues at this time (one week before my scheduled appointment). Come today, I walk to the area to check in, and I am told I do not have an appointment. I showed my text confirmations, and my ulta account no longer has an appointment scheduled (although it still showed I had one when I called to confirm a week before). The staff (I believe her name was Stephanie) did not really try to help. She kept insisting that no one could come and do my makeup and asked if I could push back or go to another location. I was dropped off at the location and did not have a ride, and I needed to have my makeup done within an hour and a half (as in during my scheduled appointment time slot), so that was not possible. She showed no empathy and just said that it wasn't her fault, the error was a system error, and nothing could be done. I called an Uber home, rushed to finish my makeup by myself, and arrived late to my event. No compensation, no empathy, and no attempts to correct the error (even if it was a system error). I will not be retuning for makeup services or their products due to their lack of professionalism. When a similar instance happened to me at Sephora (another system error with booking), another artist was called to come in and the manager personally apologized for the mix up. This review is just for the salon services, specifically Tamika. I had the worst experience getting my hair done with her. I went in hoping for nice balayage and a trim (which is what I booked online) and walked out with the worst highlights I have ever seen. For starters Tamika didn't even have a consultation with me, when I told her what I wanted she started sighing and making it seem like it was to much of an ask and then started throwing around the word *highlights* around. This all made me so nervous but I was still hoping for the best. She was constantly asking all the other hair dressers for advice and how to achieve the look/color I showed her in pictures. She charged me for the Olapex treatment at the end without ever letting me know it was happening, so I'm not even sure if I did get it. Don't get me started on the haircut. I don't even know what she did but it looked like a 10 year old took scissors to my hair. I just found this odd, but she called at 10:00am to remind me and confirm my 10:30am appt that same day, which I told her I would be there. Then she calls me again at 10:30am (start time), as I'm walking into the store?? I actually almost cried after leaving. I tried to like it/make it work but I was so sad for 2 days until I couldn't take it and ended up going to a different Ulta location where they were kind enough to accommodate and fix that mess for me (and reassured me that it was a pretty terrible job). read more

I actually usually buy it from Ulta so I thought what the heck I'll go ahead and just see if it is in the store. This Ulta is super easy to get to and had parking. It's right off of the freeway so it is actually possible to make a quick stop into Ulta without it being this huge production. The store itself was spacious and large. I worked customer service and I greeted every single person with the same happiness and cheer no matter what they looked like. I expect the same from every employee that works in any type of retail store, restaurant, or any service-related shop. I tried so hard to catch the name of the employee at Ulta Beauty in Mira Mesa, so as not to call her out by her looks, but to no avail. I have to call her out on her looks. She's the goth girl. I have nothing against goths. Truly. I was in the store for a little over half an hour, looking around, doing my business and checking out the cosmetics. This girl passed me twice, possibly three times. Not once did she ask if I needed any help. Did I not look "high-end" enough for her? Were my clothes not pristine? My face not spotless? My hair not styled to perfection? Boo to her because I actually watched her go to other customers and ask them if they needed assistance. Because as I was still walking around two other employees saw me for the first time and immediately asked if I needed help or if I was doing okay.
