I walked into Ulta Turlock for the first time yesterday. I looked around and was impressed with the store and it's products. One very nice woman near the salon even asked me if she could help me find anything. I did find an expensive product I had been out of and decided to purchase it as well as something else I found. When I walked up to the counter to pay, there was a line 3 ahead of me. One person was accepting payment behind the counter, the other was talking in the phone with her back to the line. When she turned around and apparently ended the call, her countenance seemed to scream, "I'm not helping any of you!" She walked over to another employee and apparently dismissed her to lunch or a break because she left the store. She still did not help anyone in line which now had two more people behind me. I decided I didn't need to be treated like this so I took both items back to where I had found one of them and left the store. I don't think I'll be going to Ulta Turlock any time soon. I live in Merced so I'll keep going to Sephora, they're pretty helpful and friendly there. read more

This review is for an employee named Caydee. Terrible attitude, not willing to accommodate customers, and kept me waiting because she thought it was a smart idea to juggle two customers at the register. I wanted to exchange a product for the same product but in a different shade. She insisted she couldn't do an equivalent exchange because I bought it during a sale. The price doesn't matter, if it's the same exact product you can do an equivalent exchange. Finally the manager came and worked her magic because Caydee was completely useless and gave me a bad attitude when she was the one at fault. I recommend to just shop online. I went in looking for a new straightener. I didn't get a chance to do much research and was reading each label, function and price all while reading reviews at the same time. I also needed a brand new one the same day. Immediately, I noticed the security guard walking back and forth to the point where he actually stood not even a few feet away from me as I was reading another label. I instantly felt, uncomfortable, harassed and profiled. Shortly after, I was approached by the manager and I immediately told her my concern and she proceeded to say that it was his job. I completely understand his role, but to profile people in that matter is just discriminating. Though the manager was helpful when explaining details as I made a selection I still didn't feel comfortable. I think she only approached me because the security kept circling around. REVIEW FOR THE HAIR SALON: PROS: extremely clean workspace and very friendly women. I was offered a bottle of water as I waited for my hairdresser to finish up. The woman who did my hair (Neve) was extremely friendly, funny and nice. She also took time to show me some products afterwards that would help hold the color in my hair, as well as a makeup product that had nothing to do with hair. The price for a trim and full color wasn't too bad either, and she styled it for me at the end. CONS: After awhile, the dye started to burn my scalp a bit. I also wanted BLUE black hair and I brought pictures with me of what I wanted my hair to look like. I wanted a strong blue tint to my hair, as was shown in the pictures I had. My hair didn't turn out like the pictures I showed her, but I was still satisfied with the dark black color. I was also happy with the fact that it felt silky, healthy and thicker than it was before. I wish my hair had turned out more blue-ish, but I left the salon happy. TIP: if you have a specific color in mind, bring pictures and don't be scared to remind your hairdresser of the exact color you want. In my case, there was either a misunderstanding OR the ULTA salon didn't have the color to begin with. Ask beforehand if they have the exact color you want, because not all salons do. I would recommend Neve! she's very good at what she does and very friendly! read more

Did they change their return policy? I purchased a Mario Badescu eye cream and after only using it twice it made my under eye area really irritated. So I decided to return it. Let me remind you I only used it TWICE and used less than a pea-sized amount each time I used it. Anyway, when I went to return it the cashier says,"it looks like you used more than 10% of this item I can't return it for you." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I then told her that when I first opened the product it wasn't filled to the top and I only used it twice. I even told her to open up a new jar to see for herself. She didn't believe me! Then I told her I wanted to speak to a manager. Then she said, "well you can return it this time,but from now on if you use more than 10% you can't return it." I'm never shopping at this Ulta again. This place has twice demonstrated some of the most horrible practices and customer service I've ever seen. My wife received her Ulta sales flyer in the mail and planned/budgeted out her trips to Ulta based on the advertised sales days. On both days when my wife visits the store, she is informed that they are out of the advertised product. When she finds alternate product to purchase, they tell her that they are out of the free giveaways that were advertised to go with the products she was purchasing. When my wife and I ask if there is anything they can do for her, like a rain check, an alternate free item or even just check the stockroom for the item that she wanted, they told her no. Just no. No coupons, no alternate solutions, no nothing... At least they could smile and lie to us, but we couldn't even get that. So, instead of a sale worth a couple of hundred dollars, they now have two people who will never shop in their store again. read more

I returned everything I bought and went to Sephora because the employee that rang me up refused to honor a coupon that was within the guidelines of what I purchased. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal but he was snotty to top it off. I have NEVER had good customer service from the employees. They aren't friendly or very helpful. The store itself is great, however, I did have several incidents in which the customer was not put first. On one instance, there were about 6-7 people in line with one person at the register. The associate let a woman cut in front of all these people so that she could 1. return an item and 2. be on the phone with I don't know who, trying to find a product that the associate had never heard of that they obviously didn't carry in the store. The woman also made a purchase. There were several associates throughout the store and they were not called up until about 10 minutes after the woman cut in front of everyone. Another time, I was trying on different brow powders and the lady working prestige makeup said I had to wax my eyebrows right off the bat!!!! It was a little rude and I don't even have thick/unruly eyebrows or enough hair on my eyebrows to wax. I would have thought she would try and suggest products to make my brows look fuller, hence the reason why I was looking for brow products to begin with. This Ulta is smaller than other ones I have been to and sometimes, I do not find an item that I want in stock. I'll still be coming around over here because it's convenient having prestige and generic brands in beauty products. I live in Turlock and this is my only option for high end makeup unless I want to travel to Modesto. I hope a manager reads this because I have several reasons why this place is just horrible. 1. There will be a line of 20+ people and the cashier will still LEAVE her register to answer the phone and chit chat. 2. Why is 1 so bad? Because there are about 6 registers but only ever TWO people working them. 3. Employees constantly follow people around, watch people uncomfortably and never ask if your finding anything okay. 4. Again the front people are ALWAYS gossiping and I mean right in front of customers about their own managers, working long hours etc. 5. I have never been treated so badly in my life. I was followed around the store as if I was a thief. It has happened not once nor twice, BUT THREE TIMES! On three separate occasions by three separate people. The last time I went this weekend I wandered off and was immediately followed and two sales women blatantly stood behind of me for at least 5 minuets! I was looking at hair oils and when I went to sniff one I was immediately told "YOU CANT TEST HAIR PRODUCTS! But if you buy it you can! If you don't like it we have an excellent return policy!" If you like hair products, facial products & makeup, Ulta is your match made in heaven! Not as big or stocked as the Modesto store, they still carry plenty of brands to keep you looking beautiful! The store is always clean (including the bathroom) & I've never experienced bad customer service. What I love about Ulta in general is that carry regular brands (Revlon, Neutrogena, etc.), but they also have higher end brands as well (Smashbox, Philosophy,etc). I've been to Ulta stores before and never have I been treated the way I was treated today. Since I walked in all eyes were on me as if I went into the store to steal something. That's legit how these unprofessional disrespectful workers there made me feel. My sister in law had warned me about this since she lives in Turlock and well today I definitely saw what she's been telling me all along. The woman who kept on bugging me with everything I did or went to smelled like complete cigarettes. No matter what I did , I couldn't get rid of her, so I was stuck smelling her nasty cigarette smell. Lovely store with very friendly staff. Had a ton of fun trying out all the fragrance testers and choosing a new nail polish color from the skyfall Opi collection. I walked up to one of the women who worked there and enquired about them. She stated "we don't carry extensions...you'll have go go to sally's for that". Brittany did an amazing job helping my sister, mother and I. She took the time to show us varieties of makeup and matched our face makeup to our skin tone. I had my four year old daughter and she gave her a perfume sample which made my daughter's day. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything she was doing. She didn't try to sell us the most expensive makeup either which I liked. She showed us what would be best for each of us. Definitely a great experience and I believe she was specific to Clinique but she may not have been. Even gave my a face care routine sample that I will be going back to buy. read more

Unimpressed by one of their employees. I didn't even catch her name. She had short green/pink/ and I don't know what other hair color. My friend and I were looking at their clearance section while our kids were minding their business playing with OUR umbrella when she comes by and asks if we needed any assistance with the rudest tone I've ever heard. I have been happy with my experiences here. I'm always offered help as soon as I walk in or within a couple of minutes. The staff is very knowledgeable, and in fact a few days ago I was very pleasantly surprised...I came in looking to buy a more expensive product and one of the sales girls pointed me to something much better for my skin, but was less money. No matter what "headquarters" would say about this, the bottom line is that she was honest, and knew exactly how to deal with my makeup needs, and because of that, they just gained my confidence as a shopper. Olivia, who ended up doing the color match was also amazing. She nailed the color on her first try. Yes, it does get a bit messy in the store, but those are only on the very busiest days and the only people to truly blame are the shoppers who rummage through everything and don't put things back, like they should. read more

Customer Service was very slow, I waited for about 7minutes in a line that had 4 checkouts with 2 checkers ( many other staff were around not helping customers) my return which cost me $26 the day before got me $13.24 in credit? The 2 items I bought in as 6 oz. size cost $19 each even though the shelf showed them as buy 2 get one free ? The courteous clerk apologized for the bad return policy. They then asked me if I had used the product and how much I had used ? It was the wrong thing! Don't loose you receipt or you too will be grilled, questioned and loose half your money in 24 hours . I had my hair dyed at the salon here--very unimpressive. My hair stylist took FOREVER to do anything...and I don't mean, she took her time to make sure it was good--she was just SLOW-moving. As for the color, I knew that it would take a few visits to get to the desired color (I'm going from black to blonde), but I felt that what my hair stylist did, I could have done at home. The color didn't look right at the end of the visit and it looked NOTHING like the photo I showed her. My hair was so fried that I went out and bought deep conditioning mask right away and tried to save it. read more

My review is for the process of ordering online and picking up in store. I ordered four items, including a shampoo and conditioner. They charged my account for the items immediately then proceeded to e-mail me saying three of the four items were not in stock at the store. Since the website had confirmed the items were available for pickup at the store while I was ordering, I assume the store needs better routines of updating their inventory daily. I called the Ulta customer service and asked them to cancel the one remaining item that was ready for pickup, since I did not want a shampoo when the conditioner was not available. They said they were unable to do that and I would need to wait five days for the charge to drop off my account. Moral of the story, probably better to do your shopping in store where you can actually see what they have instead of trusting that the website is accurate. read more
