Have eaten lunch several times at Uma Sushi. It's next to Mr. Japanese Curry. The inside only has 21 seats (5 at the sushi bar). Service always prompt, teas continuously refilled. Lunch sets (11:30am to 3:00pm) along with daily chalkboard specials. - Sushi donut ($8.50) - have tried all three types. Okay but nothing special - Nigiri - Hokkaido scallop ($4.25), sockeye salmon ($3.00), toro ($4.00), hamachi ($3.75), ika ($3.00) and tamago ($2.50). Fresh, rice properly seasoned - Beef set ($19.00) - tataki came in a tasty yuzu sauce. Thin beef slices were nicely marinated. Cold potato salad (ham and corn) was enjoyable - Salmon set ($17.00) - salmon belly was tender. Pickled vegetables were slightly crunchy - Assorted sushi ($23.00) - best nigiri were the amaebi and saba. Tuna maki was excellent - Saba oshi ($14.00 for 6) - nicely seared. Saba had a black garlic puree on top - Tamanagi roll ($12.00 for 8) - don't see this unagi and tamago combo very often. Solid - Chopped scallop roll ($7.00) - fresh

I'd consider Uma Sushi mid-tier sushi - it isn't a quick, cheap sushi spot, but it also isn't very pricey. It's an excellent option when you're looking for a high quality meal without breaking the bank. I ordered the deluxe sushi and I believe my friend did as well. The fish and seafood are fresh and the rolls were put together neatly. The restaurant is small, but had a nice cozy feel to it, and the staff were friendly. I'd go back again when I'm in the area.

Just a simple but very delicious lunch. This is the aburi set! I made some slight changes to switch out the saba and ika though! The shiitake miso soup is sooooo flavourful and warming. Definitely add it to your meal! Service was fast and quick. We dropped by before right when they were about to close and they were still very accommodating and let us finished our meal without us feeling rushed. Thank you!

I may have found my new sushi spot! A hole-in-the-wall style gem, nothing fancy but the food. Very fresh sushi with a few unexpected yet interesting flavors; think mint, truffle and foie gras. I crave a good salmon oshi and theirs did not disappoint! Our group finished our meal with a delicate Yuzu mousse cake. My only concern was the subpar service. Our server was friendly yet inattentive however, the quality of the food overshadows this detail.

We wanted to eat at an authentic Japanese restaurant, and were hoping to try one that we hadn't already tried before. After a bit of searching on Google, my husband chose Uma Sushi . It's a small and quiet restaurant, only about half a block away from the busyness of Cambie St. With a 4.5 star rating on Google, it sounded like a very promising restaurant so we were very much looking forward to this meal. Featured here: Unagi Donburi Aburi Sushi Assorted Sashimi Baked Scallop Air Fried Prawn Tempura Takoyaki Avocado Roll Dynamite Roll Scallop Mayo Sushi Donut Tuna Lover Sushi Donut Saba Oshi Ingredients were fresh and everything was nicely prepared; however, given the high ratings this place has received, we were honestly a bit disappointed with this place. While we couldn't really find fault with the food, we just weren't blown away by it either. Their sushi donuts were visually stunning but when it came to eating them, they tasted quite ordinary and handling them was a bit of a challenge. Just my own personal opinion: Perhaps air frying them into Yaki sushi donuts might have made them easier to handle and given them a bit more flavor as well? Aburi Sushi was good but we felt that we'd actually had better Aburi elsewhere, at restaurants with lower ratings. Service: Good Parking: Paid parking on the street Location: 450 West 8th Ave., Vancouver

A cute mom and pop shop that serves fresh sushi for such a reasonable price! Came here before catching our flight, and we made the reservation right before getting there and it was no problem. Once we got there, the restaurant started getting packed and we noticed we didn't get our food for quite a while. We were worried we'd be tight on time in getting to the airport and notified our waitress of this. The store owners were so accommodating and pushed out our orders quicker by separating our combos into smaller plates first so that we can start eating while the rest of the food came out. We got the Uma special sushi set + added uni pieces for each of us (there were 6 of us). The owners were so sweet in bringing out five pieces of sushi first for each of us to get us started while he continued rushing the rest of that combo out in another plate. Super sweet of the restaurant for doing this! The combo set was super fresh and tasty for such a good price as well. The Uma Special Sushi combo was $32 before tax and comes with 9 pieces of nigiri and 6 pieces of rolls. The added uni sushi piece was the perfect end to the meal! Highly recommend coming here for lunch as the prices are reasonable and they serve super fresh fish!

Loved how cozy it is here! Got the Aburi sushi combo ($30), Baked scallops ($8.50) and some assorted nigiri! I loved how fresh everything was, and service was friendly and prompt. I found the sushi combos super worth it, and I'll definitely be back to try the other sushi combos! I noticed they put a peice of perilla leaf inside the aburi, and it really adds a new dimension! Baked scallop was alright - the sauce was good, but nothing amazing - would suggest getting more sushi/nigiris as it's super fresh! Tried the foie gras nigiri ($6.50) and found it super cool! I personally enjoy my foie gras with bread, but definitely recommend trying it! Also the Ika nigiri ($3) was soooo tender. Normally Ika is pretty chewy, but this one blew me away by how tender it was!!

yummy nigiri... check out the deep hue on that uni

Amazing quality for price at this sushi spot! We were able to order a huge spread of nigiri plus a chirashi bowl and some specials (they have a huge specials board), all without breaking the bank. This is the kind of sushi spot that I wish would follow me around to wherever I live.

Outstanding food excellent service and all kinds of my favourite Japanese-Chirashi-don can't ask for more. This was actually my first time eating something made in an air frier honestly can't see what the Big Deal is but the Prawns were good as was the Tartar sauce. The Baby Kale Gomae had a saltier spicier dressing than usual one of the Best I've ever had and I generally avoid Kale. Next time I'll try a different bowl maybe the one with Sablefish another fave of mine. Anyway if you're looking for a cozy neighbourhood place this is it and it's close to everything.

Delightful spot for sushi and Japanese food. I got a seat for one right away at the counter spot. I ordered an assorted chirashi donburi ($18) and it was a great lunch meal. Fish tasted fresh and the rice was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the salmon, tuna, octopus, tamago and inari.

Beef lunch combo. Soup flavorful, not salty. Beef tataki and side veg very delish. Would get again.

Nice quiet atmosphere. Menus with lots of pictures. Quality food at good prices. Excellent service.

Omg just so good. Ordered catches of the day and Aburi sushi among assorted sushi's. My fave was the engawa (flounder fin). So buttery. I love how the mayo on the aburi is seared, giving the sushi a more creamy taste. The sockeye salmon was fresh and delicious too. I will be back. If not, I'll be dreaming of this sushi for months on end

The nigiri and sashimi here are very fresh and tasty with a lot of different choices. The service is good and price is reasonable. Only shortcoming is they don't offer much other cooked food. Definitely one of my favorite place for sushi.

Every time I come, I can feel the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. From seating to ordering, and then to the care during the meal, everything is done with great finesse, making me feel comfortable and at ease. The unique politeness and meticulousness of Japanese service are naturally reflected here. The food is also a reason I want to come back. Whether it's the freshness of the ingredients, the presentation, or the taste, you can feel the attention to detail. Japanese cuisine emphasizes the quality of the ingredients themselves, and Miku presents this refinement beautifully. Every dish is pleasing to the eye and has a layered flavor. I also love the ambiance. The overall design is simple, elegant, and has a very comfortable Japanese aesthetic. The lighting, seating, and spatial layout all create a relaxing atmosphere without feeling overly decorated; instead, they have a high-quality feel. As for the atmosphere, I think it's what makes this place so special. Elegant and quiet, yet not too formal, it's suitable for dates or enjoying a good meal with friends. Sitting there slowly eating and chatting makes the whole dining experience particularly comfortable. After several visits, I still feel that Miku is a restaurant worth returning to again and again. It's not just because of any one dish, but because the service, cuisine, environment, and atmosphere combine to create a very pleasant experience every time I come.

This visit we ordered the shrimp garlic fried rice, Agedashi Nasu, Grilled Squid with Garlic Mayo, and an assortment of sashimi. The shrimp garlic fried rice is an absolute must every time. It's packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and somehow manages to be comforting without feeling too heavy. It is a large dish and can easily be shared by 3-4, depending on what else you order. We also love the Agedashi Nasu here with melt-in-your-mouth eggplant wrapped in a light, delicate coating that soaks up the savory broth. Service is always quick and organized, even when the restaurant is busy. Dishes arrive as they're ready, making it easy to share everything around the table, which is exactly how an izakaya experience should feel. If it's your first visit, don't skip the shrimp garlic fried rice, and make sure to check out the daily specials before ordering. The udon in both the curry and rose cream udon was very soft and tender as well, tender than what I usually have for udon. If you like your noodles al dante I don't think it'll quite fit your taste but I personally really enjoyed it! As for the taste the spicy rose cream udon tasted exactly like Buldak Ramen's Carbonara flavor, and everyone at my table agreed. The garlic bread was nice tho. I made reservations about 4 months in advance. Upon arrival, one of the hostesses opened the door for us, and asked us to wait in a very ornate waiting area. We only waited a couple of minutes before another hostess seated us at the main seating area. The space is very dark, and only lit with candles while the rest of the diners trickled in. During that time they take drink orders, which is limited to sake, wine, beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Of note, they don't provide a drink menu, so we were a little surprised by the cost - the yuzu sake and the plum wine were $30 each. My non-alcoholic drink was $12, but a fair size. The theatrical portion started a few minutes later than the official start time - closer to 6pm. The shades lifted, the lights turned on, and the chefs introduced themselves. And from that moment on, they immediately went to work preparing our meal. They operate like clockwork to show the ingredients whole to the diners, and then preparing them, and serving them. Soon as the one dish was completed by all the diners, the next round came shortly after. Over 20+ dishes, there was very little wait time in between each. Each time a dish was served, a hostess was there to describe the dish and provided tips on how best to eat it. The food was overall was very good. I thought a few items were very average, most of them were very good, and a select few were truly outstanding. Most of the ingredients are imported from Japan, so I would imagine that it's part of the reason it's so expensive. This is definitely a splurge meal. I think half the diners at our sitting was celebrating a birthday. On the most part, the food is very good, watching the chefs at work is part of the entertainment, and the service is excellent. It's not some place I could afford to go to often, but glad to do it at least this one time.

Their Salmon Oshi is also worth tacking on, nicely torched and balanced by the slice of jalapeño. The only real drawback is portions: each roll is just two or three bites, so if you come in with a big appetite, your tab climbs quickly before you feel truly full. The Service Swift, polite, and well-timed. The chefs assemble each roll right across the counter and hand it over the moment you finish the previous one, so nothing sits around getting soggy. The floor staff kept water glasses topped up and managed the counter smoothly despite the constant turnover. The Ambiance Sleek, minimalist, and very photogenic.
