Tried some Tuna Sashimi, a Coconut Shrimp roll, Pork Gyoza, Chicken Fried Rice, Plum Wine, and ended the evening with Fried Cheesecake and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. This is definitely not your momma's Japanese eatery. From it's hipster design, to it's modern Japanese pop music, this place is refreshing. As a chef with an organic bakery and cafe myself, I don't want mediocre food and hold a high standard when it comes to cleanliness and service. The sushi is fresh and well prepared, the tempura is light and crispy, and the yaki udon has well developed flavor. The service is attentive and genuinely friendly. Last month I visited Clearwater for a couple of weeks. I have to admit I was skeptical about this place... a small town sushi joint in a strip mall? Probably terrible right? Wrong. This place was AMAZING! I live in LA and used to live in both London and NY, three cities where world class sushi can be found every square mile-- I know good sushi. I can't believe this place exits in the middle of nowhere. Sensational house special sushi rolls, exquisitely cut and selected sashimi-- can't speak for the nigiri as I didn't try it but if it's half as good as everything else I tried this place is unbeatable. Customer service? Like being at home. I literally (not figuratively) ate there seven times over the course of two weeks. Cannot recommend it enough! Good job guys! read more

First time. Wife really doesn't do sushi. Tonight, a Sunday, the service was perfect. It is a tiny place, an all at once crowd could overwhelm. But our service, by more than one person, was excellent. Wife really liked the decor...very peaceful. I'm a guy, didn't really notice. Both had soup. Good. Wife had chicken and shrimp hibachi. Lots of really good veggies. She wants to go back. I had eel and avocado roll and spicy tuna roll. Tuna roll marked mild, wow what is hot like. Both excellent and will revisit. But there are so many other things on the menu to try. Now that I have a place the wife likes, I can get my fix on a regular basis. Oh, and did I mention it was VERY reasonable? A new go to place. Oops, it is marked hot. After 5 times, we still love this place. Service is good. If Cristina is on, excellent. Rolls perfect. I love ell, so get anything with ell. Wife has tried several things and remains satisfied. Seldom crowded. We tend to get there about 6pm. Umai has become a real favorite. Went for lunch, for the first time. 4rolls for $12, a great bargain. And they are the same size as dinner. read more

I recently heard about this place I have been meaning to try it, today I got my chance. I went to a casual lunch with a friend and we lingered for some time over a chirashi platter and a few rolls. I have been eating Japanese food for 35 years, and I have had it not infrequently. I can say, without hesitation, that this is one of the best one or two places I have ever sampled the sushi. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the way the chef made the rolls, he was not stingy with the fish but made the fish the star of the roll and not just a bit player. The miso soup was good, the side salad was just a little on the small side, but that is very forgivable. Now every place makes their chirashi bowl differently. Here, the fish was absolutely fresh, there could have been just a little bit more rice. It was served on a flat plate with shredded carrot rather than daikon, which was adequate but just not to my preference in terms of a presentation. If style is your concern, there may be a few nits to pick, but if you like friendly service and highest quality sushi, you really can't beat this place. There really hasn't been anything in this part of the county that can hold a candle to it for a long time. I know that I will be back many times, and I look forward to sampling many menu items. The only problem is that the sushi was so good, it may take me several visits and a little time to get to it. read more

This place is great. Super fresh rolls filled to the brim with fish! We came for lunch and got the 3 rolls for $12 and then one specialty roll. The tuna roll, spicy crunch shrimp and my personal favorite the spicy salmon were all completely killer; flavorful and delicious!!
