We were looking for a place where we could watch the sunset, so we were really excited to eat here. We had a reservation for 7:45 PM, but when we arrived it was raining, so they had to move everyone inside. We weren't seated until around 8:20 PM. The restaurant was extremely busy. They had a separate gluten-free menu which was nice. Once we were seated, it took a while for our waitress to come over, but we understood because of how crowded it was. Unfortunately, when she did come to the table, she seemed extremely rushed and it came across a little rude. I had several questions about gluten-free precautions, and every time I asked something she quickly said "yes" without really explaining. We ordered the Millionaire Bacon, oysters and the octopus as appetizers since both were listed on the gluten-free menu. I specifically explained that both needed to be prepared gluten-free. On the menu, it even notes in parentheses what needs to be removed to make certain dishes gluten-free. When the appetizers arrived, I noticed the octopus still had the red sauce that the menu said must be removed. I stopped our waitress as she rushed by, and she quickly said it was gluten-free and walked away. My husband had just put some in his plate when the server, who had brought the food out, came back and asked if we had eaten any yet because it had not been made gluten-free. He immediately took it back and returned with a gluten free one. When I mentioned it to our waitress, though, she kind of just shrugged it off. For dinner, I had the seafood bowl, and my daughter, who also eats gluten-free, had the salmon with potatoes au gratin. My son and his girlfriend got sushi, and my husband had the fish Clearwater style. Everything looked great when it came out, and I double-checked that my meal was gluten-free. The server confirmed it was. Overall, the food tasted really good. The only issue was my daughter's potatoes au gratin there was so much grease pooled on top that she ended up not eating it because they were basically inedible and her salmon was over cooked and had zero seasoning. Overall, our meal was good. The restaurant was packed, and we were disappointed that we missed the chance to sit outside and watch the sunset, but that was obviously due to the rain and not the restaurant's fault. read more

The food is great and prices are in line, wait staff is great, but serving across the table and across another lap is inexcusable. This falls on management and I have known this since I was 14. Food should generally be served from the guest's left side using the server's left hand. However, if the food is pre-plated in the kitchen, it should be served from the right side. I would have given a higher score but a few things that happened cause me to give a 3 star rating. I'm disabled at the moment and upon arriving all of the handicap spaces were taken with high end luxury vehicles. These were allowed to park there because of valet workers and when my stone crab was boxed up I was missing one and at $45 dollars a lb I was a little upset about that. We had a reservation at 3pm but because of heavy beach traffic we got there at 310pm. But two couples who arrived after us and also with 3pm were seated before us. So once the second couple was sat I inquired about it. That's when we were finally sat. Once we were sat things were going really great. This is our favorite restaurants in the Tampa area. It's on the water, causal attire, great food and worth our 1.5 drive. The food is also terrific m. So my wife and I eat like birds so we often split meals. We ordered a 22oz steak, lobster tail, scallops, shrimp with appetizers of crab claws and oysters. And for good measure a salad which was really good with hot bread "yum". The food was great, my Fiancé and I both got fish and had it made Clearwater style. She got the grouper and I got the hogfish, both cooked excellent and tasted phenomenal. I also had a Vieux Carré, probably one of the best drinks I have ever had. Our waiter was excellent as well, his service to us was very good and deserved a good tip! The ambiance at islandway grill was very nice. Music was up to date as well which allowed you to still be able to have a conversation. We enjoyed the brunch. I will give it a strong 3.75 due to the price of $45 per person. Even though the food was good, I did not eat anything that blown me away and made me want to go back for seconds. I think they need to have some other options available that you can pre-order on the separate menu that would be fresh. We are in Clearwater for my twin nephews college graduation, and my sister-in-law booked this spot because she had an amazing brunch here once--and it didn't disappoint! We had a party of 11. You valet upon arrival, and as soon as you walk in, you know you're in for something special. You see the sushi bar, steaks being prepped, and a lively bar area buzzing with energy. We chose to sit outside for the beautiful waterfront view. We had the pleasure of being served by Emily, and I won't forget her name--she was an absolute gem. Smiling, attentive, and truly present. I made a special request for my nephews, and without missing a beat, she said, "Of course!" with a big smile. The food was absolutely out of this world. I had the catch of the day which was the mahi-mahi & I haven't had a nice fresh one since I was in Waikiki beach in Honolulu - it was absolutely mouth watering delish! Their bruschetta with salad greens, thick cut fresh crunchy beef tomatoes, big thick cut fresh mozzarella was to die for, again, the freshest I've ever had prepared for a dish like this, the bruschetta was lightly toasted, however, did not have a flop but was not totally crunchy which I like so then I can pile high with more of the salad drenched vinaigrette. My bestie got the burger & he said he loved it. He also loved the candied maple bacon too. We sat at a high top in the bar area closest to the main entrance which was FCFS, very nice to grab that type of seating without a resy! We were greeted promptly by the hostess crew and seated shortly after on the beautiful patio where many other diners were enjoying the gorgeous evening. Our server Cheyenne was prompt and greeted us quickly with a bright smile and cheery "Good evening!". After letting her know that we were "first timers" she graciously went over some menu highlights and offered suggestions when we couldn't decide. We took her suggestions and our cocktails were expertly prepared and our meals were absolutely delicious! The kitchen was definitely busy but seemed to be running smoothly as our courses were delivered in a normal amount of time and expertly prepared. Cheyenne was the perfect amount of attentive to our needs throughout the meal and kept our table tidy. When it came time for dessert she filled us in on options that all sounded amazing but we passed as we had cake at home. Will we be back? Absolutely! Will we request Cheyenne as our server? The food quality was poor and a lot of items including sushi, fish, and salad were not kept at proper temperatures and just sitting out on counters. There wasn't a single thing on the brunch buffet that I didn't like. The carving station was handing well cooked beef and pork roasts. The sushi station had vegetarian options. We were seated within 10 minutes. We chose to sit inside. We had great view of water. Our waitress, Libby, was super friendly. She walked with us with big smile. She was really attentive and super friendly towards our kids. For appetizers, we ordered calamari and crab dip. The dip was rich, tasty and delicious. The calamari had sweet sauce on it, but it was nice. For the main course, the stuffed chicken was a standout: tender, buttery, and paired with a creamy sauce that elevated the dish to another level. The grilled mahi-mahi was equally exceptional--flaky, moist, and accompanied by mashed potato that was rich without being overpowering. The Island style seafood bowl was also excellent choice. This place SUCKS!!!!! Reservation was at 830pm, ordered entrees at 9pm, didn't get food until 10:30pm (they close at 10pm). Food was COLD and STALE, these guys can't cook a decent steak to save their life. Truffle fries are LITERALLY swimming in truffle oil and inedible. The service is levels below mid and rushed. The automatically added 20% gratuity is a nice surprise for 10% tip service. This is the second time in my life I've experienced a restaurant this bad and making this post does not come lightly. My wife, my friends, and I will NEVER step foot in this shit hole again. Also we ordered a birthday dessert for our friends 30th birthday and they never brought it because they were too busy trying to close and leave. Island Way has so much potential. The food is good, fairly vast menu, but too many small factors make it a no-go (or at least a once-every few-years-go. Parking is a nightmare, and as a solution, they offer valet parking. Valet parking may work for some people. They accept reservations, but don't honor them - meaning you can wait 45 min for a 5:30 reservation, like I did on my most recent visit. They have outdoor seating on the water, which is nice - when the weather cooperates. Our waitress had a great attitude, but she was hard to find. Our table of 3 were served main courses 10 min apart. The appetizer took 30 min to arrive. Because they were busy - we were pressured to place our order as soon as water was served. Runners from the kitchen drop off food and have no interest in being seen, asking if you need anything, or even speaking when they place the food in front of you. This was disappointing, as a simple acknowledgement that the meal belonged on the table or asking if it was accurate would have gone a long way. Instead, they made the delivery a drop and run procedure. The main dining room is very loud and painful on the ears. The positive about the restaurant is that it is grand in appearance, the seafood is on display, and the food was tasty. read more
