Trying to impress foodies is always a challenge, so I was so excited that they enjoyed their meal. We got so much food this time, I didn't even get pictures of it all! We tried: - Roti Dip - Crispy Pumpkin - Chicken Satay - Koong Karee - Short Rib Massaman Curry - Pad Se-Ew - Tamarind Salmon - Coco Paradise Everything was so delicious! We were so happy with each dish. This place is a total hidden gem. The location is unassuming, but the restaurant is still so cute and cozy. I love this place!

It took a few minutes for us to be greeted and then seated and then some more time after that for our waitress to take our orders. I ordered the Tom Yum crab omelet; my friend ordered the eggs benedict, and we agreed to share the ube pancake on the side. I also ordered the ube latte to drink while my friend ordered the matcha latte. When we got our drinks, mine tasted like milk with light ube flavoring and my friend didn't care for her drink either. I'll bet if we had ordered Thai iced teas, it would've been a lot better. It didn't take too long until our food arrived. We tried the ube pancake first and unfortunately it wasn't that great. The pancake itself was dry and tasteless and the small serving of syrup it came with didn't help. I'm sure the ube pancake entree was a lot better as we saw someone next to us eating it and it was topped with fruit and whipped cream. That would have definitely helped with the taste and dry texture. The omelet was really good though. The sauce was delicious and it was a perfect combination with the rice. I wasn't too crazy about the crab, but I loved everything else about that dish. I ended up sharing a bit of it with my friend as she said she wasn't happy with her meal. I saw our waitress glance to see if we were doing ok, but it seemed like she didn't want to interrupt our conversation. I noticed that she was the only one on the floor and the place was getting busy, but her demeanor seemed a bit cold and she really looked like she didn't want to be there. I'm not sure if I would come back here. The Tom Yum dish was good, but that was about it. Based on other reviews, it looks like their traditional dishes are popular, but for me there are many other Thai places that serve delicious food while providing good customer service. I think that's why I was a bit taken aback with my experience here. I've always received warm welcomes and great service with every other Thai restaurant that I've been to. I might come back to try their more traditional dishes, but it'll be awhile before I return.

The restaurant is really big and we sat at a table for 14 pretty comfortably. We were also here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The service is your typical Chinese restaurant vibe where you leave a little bit emotionally abused after paying for overly priced menu items. We did the à la cart and easily spent up to $1500. Better off with the family plan meal but nothing was of interest to us except one or two dishes. It took forever to come out and I mean FOREVER to a point where we almost cancelled a few dishes and called it a night, but they kept saying it's being made. With as many people and as massive as the restaurant was, and the price tags, I was expecting a more efficient service. A couple of times we saw our dish being brought to the wrong table and the people going "oh we didn't order this." With all of that out of the way, I am giving them an average score of 3 starts because the food did bring them back up. It was actually really good. My favorite of all things we ordered was their sea bass with string beans. The sea bass was fried crispy, garnished salty and still soft inside. It paired really well with the string beans. We ordered a bunch of other things that I couldn't tell you what the name was in English and they were above average taste wise. Their complimentary dessert however, was mass produced and tasted like they added too much water to it. This was the only one I was disappointed in. I still say this place is extremely overpriced but for a family meal experience and if you ever want to impress a date, why not.

To be honest, Fusion used to be terrible, and I used to absolutely hate coming here. Food was slow in coming, what came out was often cold, the dining room was loud, and service was impersonal, at best. On one visit, half the menu was unavailable, requested silverware was crooked, and numerous glasses, bowls, and plates were chipped or damaged. On another visit, I saw multiple families sneak out of the restaurant, walk to McDonald's across the plaza, and smuggle food back in to tide them over until their orders came. After a while, I wasn't alone in meeting the decree of, "come to Fusion on Saturday," with a groan. However, when HL Peninsula opened in Castro Valley and established itself as a threat to Fusion's business, it served as a wake-up call. Food immediately got better (from "below-average" to "know what to order and you'll be fine"), the speed of service improved, and food temperature became consistent and proper. It's not QUITE a "different restaurant" feel, and there are still some negatives. It's still loud and service could still be better (there have been times where chicken wings have taken over an hour to come out, which is a "should not occur"). However, at least I don't dread coming here anymore.

The calamari was good too, but I was also expecting smaller bits of calamari, not just the rings. My aunt wasn't a fan of the sauce! Beef fried rice was pretty standard, good but nothing crazy. Lion queen roll was also yummy but seems like the rolls was not packed tightly because it was falling apart at the lightest touch. Sweet and sour pork was okay. Salmon nigiri was okay. We did have a laugh at how big the dishes they served the food on were. It was HUGE, like all this food took up 2 tables. The plate holding the lion queen roll was longer than my forearm. Portions are equally as huge. It's expensive, but you're definitely getting a big portion to share.

The drink/cocktail list is vast, but we are not much of a cocktail drinker and not usually drink during lunch, but I saw Matcha Sharka being ordered a lot and the other seemingly popular drink was this lavender drink. If you are a cocktail drinker during lunch, do check them out. We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

What a shame that I am not in Castro Valley often enough. It has been difficult to find HK cafes that do set combos like they do in HK, but Garden Cafe has a selection of three classic HK combos that include an entree, buttered toast, and your choice of drink, all for an amazing price. These three combos are a quintessential aspect of HK cafe culture, and bring me back to when I used to frequent HK yearly and indulged in such combos for breakfast. This was my very first time at Garden Cafe, so of course I went with an HK combo. My pick this time was 雪菜肉絲米粉 (preserved veggie and shredded pork vermicelli soup), which is one of my favorite HK noodle soups. For my drink I went with classic HK milk tea, and upgraded to the iced version. The staff were very efficient (and of course speak Canto so I can practice), and my food was brought out super quickly. The majority of the other patrons also spoke Cantonese, and much more fluently than I do, so that's another indication of how you know the food is legit. The broth for my 雪菜肉絲米粉 was clear yet flavorful, the meat was tender, the veggies delightfully pickled, and the vermicelli not overcooked at all. The toast was thin, crunchy, and buttered nicely without being overwhelming. The HK milk tea was oh so good and as strong as it always is at every HK cafe I've ever been to. I ended up not finishing my noodle soup and brought it home to enjoy later, and also got the rest of my milk tea to go. Do note that Garden Cafe is super easy to miss if you're not paying attention. I completely passed by the parking lot the first time, since the building the restaurant is located in is recessed and connected to a liquor store. Parking is scarce, and I ended up parking in the tiny lot next to the liquor store. It's also located right across the street from Eden Medical Center. The neighboring parking lot is also part of a medical office and does not connect to the parking lot for the liquor store/restaurant. Regardless, I love eating at hole in the wall establishments and Garden Cafe is most certainly on my list to return to (and bring my husband next time) so I can try some more dishes they have to offer!

Quality/Quantity - This has been booked marked for a while to visit. Overall the food was okay, but NO ventilation?!?! All foods come out on a piping hot sizzling cast iron platter which smoked up the place! I feel sorry for the waitress. Korean BBQ restaurants have ventilation on each table which would make a slightly more comfortable environment. Salmon & Rib Eye Yakiniku with Rice - My wife enjoyed it and actually finished her entire entree. Decent flavors. The quantity is for 1 person. Chicken Garlic Butter Egg Noodles - Substituted rice with egg noodles for $1 more. Well these are NOT egg noodles in my opinion. More like ramen noodles...? Anyway, it had decent quantities of chicken. I had to give 25% of it to my daughter. Well, we ended up taking the leftover chicken with her leftover beef home. Beef Udon. Add Kimchi + $1.50 - Again, with good flavors. The udon noodles were of good quality. Generous beef that we/she took her leftovers to-go. Ambiance - A very small location. I think there are just 7 tables. And because this place was so small, the smoke from the sizzling platters filled up the place. Open 6 days a week. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Good. Price - $56 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 2019. Are you a franchise?
