I quickly ordered my poke bowl with tuna + salmon, topped with eel sauce for a little sweetness, and spicy mayo for a little punch. My order took longer than expected but after I received my meal, I realized it was because everything was fresh. The rice was warm and sticky, and the fish was freshly chopped into bite size pieces. The portion was perfect for the fair price of $11.95, which is cheaper than poke places in Austin. I could tell the servers were in a little bit of a rush to get current seated customers out, so I made sure to stick to business; eat, pay, leave. GO TO UMAMI! While staying in Austin, I had an opportunity to finally visit Umami after tracking their prep stages and grand opening via social media. So so glad I went -- totally worth the drive! Ended up feasting at the sushi bar with a couple of gfs. Some of the stuff we loved: *poke bowl (w. customizable fish & sauce) *holy escolar (hello spicy!) *salmon wraps (my personal fave) *scallop / spicy scallop / albacore / tuna / salmon / anagi nigiri (so fresh) *tokyo tower (perfect to start off your meal) *miso soup (get the one with clams) .. this is all on top of amazing service, friendly chefs, very reasonable prices, and some good house sake. I have been to this place about 4 times, and every time I go it is a vibe. The server is so nice and attentive. I love the music they play there. The service is very quick too. I always get the spicy ramen and the first time I got it, it was really soupy. This time, they made it perfectly. Just noodles and spice. I also love the deep fried gyoza. The sushi is always delicious. I normally get deep fried sushi. That sake will get you right too. 10/10! read more

I love the fresh fish and the sushi rice is perfect. We had the black albacore, salmon wraps, and Tokyo tower to start and I loved them all SO much. The lime and garlic oil on the albacore were so flavorful, salmon wraps were so fresh and melted in my mouth, and the Tokyo tower is just too good (you just have to get it and you trust me, you won't regret). Then for entrees we ordered the umami roll, dr. octopus and poke bowl. For the price, I can't believe how much food we got and how delicious the meal was. We paid $61 for an amazing meal. The interior is cozy and I love the wooden details. Overall, I believe this place has huge potential and can't wait to go back!! read more

I was a bit apprehensive when my BIL suggested A sushi joint in San Marcos. Having been to texas state as a student and growing up in the area, there was never a sushi place I would recommend. With that being said, I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was all very welcoming, the ambiance was quaint, with maybe seating for 20-30 tops. The service was quick too! The nigiri was top notch. We ordered three different options there. All the slices were delicate, and the cuts of fish were precise, clean, flavorful, and not the junky cut of meat. Nice heart steaks. We had a few appetizers of gyoza, edamame, and miso. All flavorful fresh and hot. No eye rolls when the boys wanted sake bombs either! I guess San Marcos hasn't changed too much lol. We ordered four different rolls. I had the unagi roll which was very hearty at the ends, but a little thin on the unagi in the center of the roll. They had great takes on the traditional rolls for reasonable prices. We will definitely be back to try something else soon! So happy we visited! read more

There was no wait when we walked in and the staff were all nice and welcoming. Our server made sure the drinks were filled and was incredibly attentive! Great job on high quality service. However, the food really wasn't at the level of quality I expected for the prices. I ordered multiple pieces of nigiri and I think only the eel tasted fresh. My wife ordered the Chashu Buns and said the bun itself was really good, but the meat was very over cooked, so it lost the melt-in-your-mouth delight of chashu.
