If I could give them a negative rating... I would. I called to see if they offered "call ahead" seating, no he says. So can I make a reservation for 30 minutes out? Sure... Really?? Isn't that call ahead seating?? Walk in & get seated right away for a party of 4. But seated to where only 1 of our party was able to get up. One member of our party had to stand to allow the waiter to go by. The chairs we're sitting at... Plastic lawn chairs!! Really? With most menu items being $25 a piece!! The manager comes by after I ask for another table & says "it'll have to be a booth" so... I'm fine with that. He continues to talk to us & I said "well, this isn't gonna work" another person in my party sees that I'm irritated & says "lets calm down" to which the manager says "ya, really" Then the waiter comes by & slams a stack of plates on the table saying "I'll be back in a minute" that was it... It was the last straw. As we're leaving... Before spending our hard earned $$ to sit in patio chairs & have shitty service to which I can only say I'm sure the food would have been just as shitty as the atmosphere... I pass the manager & tell him we're leaving to which he says "good"! I said I'd leave a bad review & he chimed in "go ahead" So here ya have it... This place sucks ass!! I wouldn't spend a dime here with the management & wait staff employed with them now. I'll make sure the next time I come to the east coast, I stay the hell outta Umbertos! read more

This place was recommended by a paison who had been going to Umberto's for 20 years. Great choice. We were running late and we called to ask if we could still be seated. The person answering the phone stated that if we could get there by 9:30pm, they would still serve us. Well.....we got there at 9:55. They knew us from the phone conversation and still were happy to seat and serve us. We ordered the fried provolone as an appetizer and the eggplant parm and NY strip for main entrees. We also ordered a chicken parm from the kids menu for our daughter. What a pleasant surprise to find that our entrees came with pasta fagioli soup; tomato and cucumber salad and a side of angel hair pasta with sauce. Everything but the angel hair pasta was amazing. For some reason the sauce mixed with the angel hair just didn't taste as good as with the fried provolone. The entrees were large portions and exceptional. My steak required no additional sauce (e.g. A1 steak sauce)...it was perfectly cooked to my order, medium rare. The eggplant parm was thinly sliced and well cooked. All of the different plates came out fast, but appropriate to where we were in our dining experience. Barefoot landing is an obvious tourist trap, but it's quaint and has a nice ambiance. Umberto's was playing the "Mob Hits" soundtrack....and while a little cheesy......it was fun and I enjoyed singing all the classic songs with my daughter. The price was fair....about $26 for a good portion of NY strip and $15 for the eggplant parm. But that also came with the soup, salad and pasta. There are many options for steak AND Italian food in Myrtle Beach, but this place was recommended by someone coming here for 20 years......I think that speaks volumes for the restaurant. Take Home Message (THM): Umberto's serves quality Italian food, has a nice/fun ambiance, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, and while the price was not on the budget side.....the entrees do come with a soup, salad and pasta all for the one price. Forget the fact that you are sitting on plastic lawn chairs, and that the restaurant is laid out with table on top of each other, because once you have the food all of that will go away. The food is just tremendously good, and the service is top notch. The food is family style so you better bring an appetite because the courses just go on and on. I am not a big bean fan, but the bean dish they bring is fantastic. If you order any of the steaks or chops, beware they are Fred Flintstone size, a brontosaurs burger has nothing on these hunks of meat. Seriously the last time we were there they brought out a stuffed pork chop that measured 5in X 5in X 5in, that was next to a steak that was roughly a 3 1/2" cut, and all that (with all the family style courses) was $30. The waiter literally began to yell at my family member when he calmly and quietly asked for the manager. We had reservations two weeks in advance for seven yet had been seated at table for six, my family member wanted to see if there was another table. The waiter for no reason, just a crazy, hot head goon went from zero to sixty and began to yell. I honestly could not make sense of it. The manager told us there was nothing he could do, "go somewhere else." Whatever happened to customer service? We had been going here for years but I had noticed the food quality was going downhill. Sauce tastes like it is from a can, eggplant parm is more breading than eggplant and they seat you on plastic patio chairs, indoors! But it had been a family tradition, well now that the staff is rude and doesn't value the customer there is no reason to ever dine here again. I have heard great things about Umberto's and was really not impressed. While the multiple courses of beans/greens, salad, and bread are great, I felt like our server was an announcer. He proclaimed what was "next" at least twice per course. That is, until my water glass went empty. Then he disappeared for over 15 minutes, while he could be seen attending to the tables around us. To his defense, we were stuck in a corner that clearly does not usually have a table in it. Maybe he was just not used to scanning our section. However, when my plate costs $40, I don't expect my water glass to go empty for an extended period of time. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I've had better ossobuco. Great food. Generous portions- a meal itself arrives before the meal you've ordered comes out. Beans and greens, tomato cucumber salad and a family style dish of pasta are all served BEFORE your entree. We've come here every time we visit Myrtle Beach and we've never left with a bad thing to say about our meal or the service. That speaks volumes about their consistency. If your at Barefoot Landing around dinner time and your in the mood for Italian this place will do. It's a pretty average place, the food was good, not great. Although I ordered the veal Marsala and it wasn't really veal, it was pork, I've had veal before and this wasn't veal. The pasta sauce was good and pasta was cooked well, it really was all just about your average Italian. It would be nice though, to eat out on something other than white plastic patio furniture. If we were on a patio maybe, but we're inside, come on. So all in all it's a decent place to stop in at for a bite in-between shops. Just don't expect to be blown away. read more

Arrived at Umbertos on Easter evening. Needless to say, it was very busy, but as I understand it this place is always busy. The hostess and staff were doing an excellent job of processing the wait queue and quickly turning over tables and seating diners. I had a 6:45 reservation and when my family of four arrived on time, they promptly sat us. They start everyone off with "beans and greens" family style that were delicious. Then next up was the tomato, onion, and cucumber salad also served family style and prepared in an olive oil. This was an incredibly delicious appetizer. During the appetizers they are very generous with servings of what appeared to be just baked bread. The bread was really good, For entrees, my family and I were divided, as we are all very experienced diners and quite capable of rating the quality of of meals. My wife did not care for the Shrimp Scampi, she said that the shrimp were not tender and my daughter did not care for the eggplant parmigiana as she said it lacked flavor. My other daughter and I liked our meals and I would especially recommend their chicken francese which was very good. The restaurants atmosphere is very nice, we had a table that was adjacent to a window that looked over the water. The place is loud, but overall a nice atmosphere for when you are on vacation and dining with your family. If it were not for my daughter and wife not liking their entrees I would have definitely gone with four stars. read more

All I can say is WOW. This is coming from a truly picky eater. My family chose to come here whilst on vacation and I think we most definitely will return. There was no wait, and we were immediately sat and greeted by a wonderful server (I believe his name was TJ). He was extremely knowledgable about the wines and the menu. I ended up ordering the spaghetti and calamari while the others in my party ordered the lobster ravioli and some other pasta dish I can't quite remember. While we were waiting for our food we were served bread, beans, and a cucumber tomato salad (all included). I found the spices on the salad to be excellent. All super delicious. Then our food arrived in a very timely manner. YUM. The calamari in my dish was cooked to perfection and blended perfectly with the sauce. Everyone else in my party was raving about how amazing their dishes were. Food is terrific, service was quick and polite, and atmosphere was nice. Definitely give this place a try! read more

I am unsure why this place comes highly recommended. Maybe it's because I'm from the north and know what good Italian food is, well this is not it. They do try to make it an upscale experience but there seasonal employees are not fully trained and the kitchen staff I imagine is the same . The sauces on all of our dishes were ratchet. My girlfriend and I were in town for several days and were in the mood for Italian so we stooped at Umbertos. First and foremost, the food was fantastic, the portions were large and delicious. As for the service, it was certainly sub par. We were seated outside rather quickly which was nice but did not get waited on for 15 minutes. There was a family of four in addition to two other couples that were seated well after us but were tended to before us. Once we were finally tended to and received our meals, we were checked on only one time throughout the entire meal. We had finished our meal and waited a while for our waiter to show up so we could request a doggie bag and our check. It was also not good that the manager was sitting at the bar socializing with staff when she should have been checking on customers experiences and perhaps thanking them for their business. read more

This is our anniversary spot. Consistently excellent as is the service and attentiveness. Had the usual beginnings, pasta fasciole, tomato salad, pasta in a fantistico sauce...good enough to eat like soup. Wife had the veal chop that was huge and I had the double cut lamb chops, also incredible. Had a bottle of their house chianti which was average. Took a canoli home. The only negative was that the server brought out a dirty wine glass and I really believe he was embarrased. The dining room was loud as there were two large parties one of which was about 10 men who apparently were on a golf outing and trying to exercise (or exorcize) their excess testosterone. Randomly showed up to celebrate my loves birthday and was pleasantly surprised by Umberto's. This restaurant has an absolutely fabulous staff and a delicious menu. Been coming here for over 10 years - it's a must when we are in Myrtle. Everything about this place is authentic and just like my Italian mom would make. Thick slices of homemade crusty Italian bread. Perfect for dipping in your sauce, the salad oil, or your plate after the greens n beans are gone. Everyone gets greens n beans to start, as well as their salad - which is fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions in an olive oil dressing. As my sister in law said, "you could bathe in the oil it's so good". These are served family style, as is the pasta that comes with dinner. The pork chops are THICK. One is enough. Juicy and tasty. The chicken Antonio is stuffed with provolone and prosciutto, adding the right amount of salt. My favorite item is the osso buco. Falls off the bone. You will leave here with leftovers, no doubt about it. So, plan on leftovers and leave room for coffee and dessert. They make a good cappuccino and a great cannoli. read more

Yeah, they give you an absolutely ridiculous amount of food. Im talking unlimited angel hair pasta, beans, veggies and bread BEFORE your entree even arrives. And then of course the entrees are huge and tasty as well. For the amount of food the entrees are definitely worth the price. The only reason im not doing five stars is because there is an $8 fee if you want to share an entree (which is stupid) and it was very loud in the room we ate in. read more

They bring out dinner rolls and butter while you await the appetizers.For starters we had bean with greens (I am not good with exact menu names, so whatever is close to it), pasta marinara & salad(tomato/onion). I chose salmon for my entree. Everything was good, we have prompt service and our waitress wasn't kidding when she said we won't be leaving hungry. As they say at Umberto's you will not leave here hungry. With the family style meal beginnings to generous portions, this is definitely a family meal to try. Your meal starts with bread, what they call beans which resembles a pasta fagioli with less broth, a tomato cucumber and onion salad, and a pasta which is angel hair in red sauce - all delicious. Our dining guest had ordered Chicken Parmesan and her meal could have fed 2.5 people. The portions are definitely generous and be prepared to take leftovers home. I ordered the Zupa de Mare for dinner and all the seafood was cooked perfectly along with the pasta. My only problem was with the tiramisu, more mocha then espresso flavor and it truly did not taste like a tiramisu due to this. It had a great presentation and even had extra chocolate sauce drizzled all over it, but I would have preferred more of the espresso taste. We went and sat next to another table who had separate checks and we asked and they laughed in our faces. Very inconvenient to where we may not come back. Otherwise, the food is great. My family and I go here at least once every single year, and it is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in the southeast. Lots of courses - bread, a tomato/peppers/onions italian salad, pasta e fagioli, angel hair pasta, and then your entree. The porkchops are unreal, and sometimes I just get more angel hair as my meal. In the summer, they often have lobster ravioli as a special, which is incredible. I love this place; would recommend a reservation. Great, fun, loud atmosphere. read more

Every time we visit Myrtle Beach, we make a stop at Barefoot Landing and do some shopping while we wait for our take out order to be ready at Umberto's. We prefer to eat where we stay on the beach. I called after we arrived at Barefoot Landing to place an order at 730pm on Tuesday 5/21/19. The guy that answered the phone said he couldn't do a take out order. I asked again because I thought he hadn't heard me correctly. He said no we're too busy. He didn't even say it's going to be awhile just flat out no. No apology either. Would he have turned us away if we chose to eat in? We've never had an issue ordering take out from here. What a nice way you've chosen to treat returning customers. Never again. read more
