The place is very cute with a shelf full of merch (plushies, cups, & cupholders). Ordering is pretty simple since my friend and I used the touchscreen to order our drinks. Frankly, they came up with such unique drinks on the menu and I was indecisive as the drinks all look pretty good. As a result, I got the peach oolong milk tea while my friend got the white peach oolong tea. What a cute looking boba spot. Yes, that's what Ume, You Me, not ume as in plum, is: a cute looking boba spot. As a regular boba spot however, it lacks extra gears. So, at the end of the day, it's just a meh spot, and I just realized that I did snap my okay streak of boba places. There's the self serve pad to cover the service part of the review. (I wish I could type an interesting statement for that part here, but I just have what I typed.) After you punch in your order, just wait for your number to be called. Clockwork. Unfortunately, there aren't many good points. Besides being a cute looking place, the menu looked interesting, and the people got my order right. I think I got the brown sugar milk, which was okay. Even with the statements, why is the place just meh? I've been to too many boba spots, and I can't type that outside of some cup customization, there is an element that made me think "I need to go here again!" to be honest. If there's more than one location, then I suppose all of the locations are ho hum. Oh, I better type this statement. There's a severe reason why I don't like touch pad only spots at all besides the possibility of lack of sanitizers. Not only does the place make me think "It's here" now. Touch pads don't allow same price substitutions, and if it weren't for this fatal flaw, I would've ordered a more splashy drink, which would mean more money for them. So much for that thought. Ume felt underwhelming. While the place has a cute atmosphere and interesting menu, it didn't make me think "This is a staple whenever I'm in Milpitas" or "This is now a Bay Area staple for me", as it felt like a cookie cutter spot, not giving me a stand out trait. If a friend wanted a drink here, sure, I'd be back, but not if it's just me on the road. While I understand that busy times can lead to delays, it would be beneficial to provide more accurate wait times for customers. I initially placed my order online and received a confirmation that my order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I never received a status update on my order so I went inside to check and see if it was ready after waiting about 45 mins and it still hadn't been prepared yet. It wasn't until an hour later that my order of fries and tea were ready. Once I sat down to eat my food, I realized that the fries were completely cold. As a guest, there's nothing more frustrating than to wait 3x your expected wait time and still receive your food cold. I would like to offer a suggestion to the management regarding ways to enhance their operations for picking up orders. First, having accurate wait times would make a huge difference so that the customer is fully aware of the long wait time as opposed to assuming it would actually be ready in 15-20 mins as it says. Since Ume Tea is a small boba shop, it is challenging to navigate through the crowded space and identify who has been attended to. I would designate one person specifically for pickups and online orders and continue asking the guests who needs to be helped with their orders to clear up space and get them taken care of in a more efficient manner. There were a lot of people standing around and you have no idea who's in line waiting to place an order on the kiosk or who's standing around waiting to be helped by a staff member. I came here because I saw their boba drinks with a toy on social media! The drink cups for the toy is huge but it's because they have to fit a small toy under the cup. The actual drink size is I think the regular or small cup size. It was $9 dollars for the drink with the toy so kind of pricey. You could only order on a free standing tablet and didn't get to interact with any of the staff since they were all in the back fulfilling the orders. On the plus side, the drinks were really tasty. The quality of all their toppings were really fresh and complimented both of the drinks well.
