Taiwanese beef noodle soup - one of my favorite items from the restaurant. I'd argue best in the Issaquah area. Caramelized pork belly - solid Green beans and garlic - not as great as DTF but good. Popcorn chicken - good Gyoza- it's gyoza. Loved this place! We had been wanting to try it for years but kept putting it off for no good reason. My husband loved the coconut shrimp and said it was as fresh as eating shrimp on the coast. My friend and I went to Umi's today for lunch. He suggested it because he has been a great fan of their food forever, having gone there well over 20 times. I've been there twice before. Great outdoor seating but they are missing so much. They don't serve you at the table so you have to grab a seat and go in to order, which I'm never a big fan of because if their service is crap you've already tipped them. That was absolutely the case today. My friend asked for me to go in and order for him. He wanted something simple that he has ordered countless (at least 10+) times before. I walk into OK reception and the guy asks me what I want. I attempted to order my friend's meal, which should not have been an issue. Sometimes curry is a little too much for him so he gets the curry on the side. The guy taking my order comes right out and says 'we don't do that'. I ask him why not. He then goes into a very lame explanation of how they put the rice in the bowl and then the chicken and insists that the curry must go on top and not on the side. I stop him and ask him if I'm crazy because it really seems like a simple request. I walk out to my friend and he can't believe what I'm telling him so he goes inside. I happened to need to go to the bathroom, which is right next to where my friend was talking with this guy. My friend explains that he has ordered this for over 10 years and the server basically tells him that he's lying, that they would never do that. My friend then asks a question, which I couldn't hear clearly, but what ended up happening is that the server gets very rude and tells him that he's the owner and that my friend, once again, is lying. The only reason I'm giving it a 2 star is that, frankly, the food is really good. But, they're not even that busy and they could easily take customer service to the next level with table service, etc. In fact, this couple next to us happened to overhear the conversation inside and when we got outside and sat down he mentioned that he had asked the owner for 2 waters and the 'owner' told him that he needed to order food first and then they'd deliver the water to the table. Unreal! His wife was even on an oxygen tank. This place is not that big and you'd think that every returning customer has to be a blessing these days but he won't get that from me. 4.5 stars I've been back here a few times since there was a change in ownership and the food has been consistently good. I believe it's family owned and run. The server is knowledgeable and is happy to answer any questions as long as they are not swamped with takeout orders and with a fullhouse. My go to is the roasted chicken noodle soup. I recently tried their short rib pho and it was delicious. Another person from our party has been back since and said their shaken beef dish is really good and the beef is tender. Will have to try. May try their Taiwanese beef noodle soup some time as well. Sadly, their vegan/vegetarian options are on the weaker side, so I would not recommend coming unless you're ordering from their regular menu; not vegan/vegetarian. read more

A hidden gem! Such a cute spot to put a cafe, right in middle of an oasis garden located next to a spa. Smart idea! We parked right outside next to the gated entrance and waited no longer than 15 minutes for our hot and ready food. My boyfriend and I ordered their duck curry, zest lime chicken wings, and lemon grass sautéed chicken. They were all sooo yummy and exceeded our expectations! All three dishes came out to be around $40 before tip which wasn't too bad at all. Portions were a littttle small though in my opinion and I wish they gave us more food! Lol but that's just the fatty in me. My favorite was the lemon grass chicken, as it was marinated so perfectly and had the perfect amount of flavor. My second favorite was the duck curry my boyfriend ordered, which was also very good, in terms of flavor and consistency, but I wish they were more generous with the duck! Chicken wings were average, a little overpriced for 6 wings but still a good side dish/appetizer to compliment the main entrees. Overall though, I'd recommend anyone to try this place out if you're passing through the East side. Clean and efficient. We came for an early lunch, so we luckily missed the afternoon rush. The food came out very hot and fresh. The presentation was simple and clean. I feel like the quality of food was good and the flavors were decent for the area. I can see how the service would be less ideal during busy times. It's family owned so the staffing is limited. But there is a sign at the front door with very clear instructions on how to order for indoor vs outdoor seating and it states other limitations and information. This place is full service for indoor dining, but take out style for outdoor dining. I'm pretty convinced the poor reviews are from people who didn't read the sign carefully. A surprisingly yummy restaurant located in an unexpected location of downtown Issaquah. It's located next to Spa Chi, which is located behind Julius Boehm pool. Street parking is available. I was delighted that the food was ready in 10 minutes and was steaming hot! First, the popcorn chicken. The flavor and seasoning was good, but it was disappointingly not crispy. The taste kiiiind of makes up for it but if it was hot and crispy, it would've been really good popcorn chicken. The sauce it came with was good though. Second, the caramelized pork belly. We stopped in at Umi Cafe on the way home from a hike at Twin Falls. We were hungry and this sounded like a good place to eat. We've never been here and we were not sure how it would be. When you first get here, it's a bit confusing because it is adjacent to a spa, and the parking is on the street. the spa and the restaurant are separate businesses but they are adjoining. So if you are looking to have a spa and culinary experience, this is not a bad location to do it at. I've never been to the spa so I can't speak to that, but it looked quite tranquil and relaxing in there. Next time I may just try to come and do a spa day. They have inside seating as well as outside seating. We chose the outside seating not just because of COVID, but their patio seating is so beautiful. They have a little pond outside with beautiful plants that surround the seating area that even if we weren't concerned about COVID, it is a wonderful place to sit and have lunch. It was like eating in a tranquil zen garden. Umi Cafe of course had Asian fare and I had the Chicken Bahn Mi, my husband had the BBQ Pork and Wonton noodle soup, and my son had the Garlic Fries and Popcorn Chicken. Our friends had the Sauteed Garlic Steak Cubes, BBQ Pork Fried Rice and the 5 spice pork Bahn Mi. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes and they were all very flavorful. This is my second time at this location and my first (although it was about 4 years prior) was an amazing experience experience. Great food and amazing service. Such a great experience that when the opportunity came to experience it again, I jumped! This is no longer the UMI I experienced the fist time. Food was average at best. The pho had no flavor to it, the avocado curry was bland at first bite but the flavors came out after. Dumplings were bought at Costco and the service was incredibly horrible. They wanted to charge $10.00 for a cup of hot water and a 2 tea bags and served in a paper to go cup. This is not the ambiance that it used to be or trying to achieve with the music, garden and Koi pond. There are FAR BETTER spots in Issaquah than this place. I've lived in the area my whole life and never once thought to try this place out. My mom even called it a hidden gem without having seen any of the yelp reviews - all saying the same thing. We are in the midst of moving and craving some Friday night delights without leaving the comfort of the city. Called in our order and they were ready in 15 mins! While we just opted for take out, they do have outside seating in a small courtyard available and there is plenty of street parking as it's nestled on the road by the pool. With covid going on and being that it was a sunny day we opted to seat outside rather than inside. The water garden is very serene surrounded by all the greenery. We ordered the chicken gyoza and it was a heavy portion it came with 8 gyozas. We ordered the pork belly buns. The meat was huge and soft. Ordered the Garlic steak with salad and that was good although it wasn't really garlicy to me. Overall the meal was delicious and the surroundings you can't beat. Service was excellent. Quaint and delicious. Just had a date here. Plenty of seating during these quarantimes!! We sat outside next to the lovely water feature. Chill music drifted from somewhere near the waterfall. The waiter was very attentive (but we were also only one of two or three parties in the place.) The food is awesome. We had Szechuan Beef strips, green beans, and salt and pepper tofu. Those were so good that I have been thinking about ordering takeout this week. And I live in Kirkland! The soft shell crab roll disappointed. It didn't taste fresh. The service here is not okay. The food is pretty good, and because it is so close to my high school I have always gone here for convenience and for drinks. However, it is clear that the waiter does not appreciate or value his customers. Today I was yelled at by him as I waited with my friend to finish her own payment, telling me to "get out of his way" and that I was "getting in his way." As I said before, the food is not bad at all, but service like this really makes it difficult to enjoy the food. I have been coming here since when I was a freshman a couple years ago, and the service has stayed exactly the same. My friends and I were previously denied being seated as he assumed that we were there to only buy drinks, even though we said we wanted to eat as well. This is a common experience that many of my friends have faced, averting many from returning. We have noticed that this type of treatment is typically reserved for the young students who come after school and during lunch, especially if they are just here for drinks. I really wish for him to understand the value of his younger customers, as having a cafe like this near a high school and middle school would naturally draw in those kinds of people. read more

Family run business. I like how as you walk in, there is a koi/lily pad pond. There is outdoor and indoor seating. The food came out fast. The average price of foods are between $14-17. The pho was alright (noodles overcooked a tad bit). The pork belly was light and wished it came with another scoop of rice. The fried rice was nicely executed as it didn't have much oil. I am in between a 3 and a 4 star rating, but chose a 3 for now as I do not think the food or portions were good enough. I will see if my mind changes later, but I decided on the 3 because though it is relatively close to where I am, I do not see myself going back because of the food. I ended up getting the curry noodles which was ok-good. It was fine, but did not wow or amaze me. I appreciate that the server made sure that I was aware of the taste beforehand (it has a sort of tom-yum sour taste to it). The ambiance/environment is wonderful. Cute cafe tucked away on a side street. Their patio is nice with a small water fountain and greenery surrounding it. I tried their coconut slush with coffee and it was refreshing on a hot day. This has now become on of my favorite spots in Issaquah. The menu is great, I've been trying different items when I dine in and everything is so flavorful. Their wings are excellent as well.
