Short summary of how my visit at Kuma Sushi: We were a party of 6 and had family from out of town and so before spending time at Morro Bay, we decided to have lunch at Kuma Sushi during their Ramen/Bowl + Roll deal (11 am - 4 pm). For food we ordered in pairs: - Ramen with Spicy Miso + Pork = 4/5 - Ramen with Tonkatsu broth + Pork = 3/5 - Teriyaki Bowl = 2.5/5 (it was a little bland) - Garlic Chip Roll = 4.5/5 - Kiki Roll = 2/5 - Morro Bombay = 4/5 - Matcha Creme Brulee = 5/5 (the main reason we came) - Stuffed Crepe = 3/5 - Kuma Cale = 2/5 The service and system organization could have been handled better. The receipts didn't print for our table, another one which took longer for our food to come. Our order was also forgotten by the waitress multiple times. Then, we had to grab ourselves extra bowls and had to wait extra for utensils and to get our table cleared of dirty dishes in order to have more space. It was also a little confusing, we didn't know if it was a self service or a proper sit down restaurant and served by someone. After the mishaps, they did offer us a gift certificate of $25 and two free desserts which was really appreciated and they were really nice afterwards as well.

Kumar is a unique place to grab some great Japanese bites and drinks. They have an amazing $20 deal for a small bowl of Ramen and 1 full roll which is hard to beat. The seating is plenty and comfortable. Service is fast, friendly and prompt

I haven't been to Kuma in a while and ended up there for my birthday lunch this week. All the servers were friendly and attentive. The layout has changed a bit and they now have an option to order from a screen, but they will also take your order at the counter or at your table. We chose to order at the counter. The menus has quite a variety of choices and they offer "roll and a bowl" for $20 daily between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. We ordered two appetizers - the halibut ceviche and poke nachos. The ceviche was served quickly and was very tasty - fresh and generous. The nachos took a LOT longer and several other tables ordered and were served while we were waiting. The server came out and offered us something to eat while we waited while apologizing for the delay so we got some edamame. The nachos were very good when they arrived and the server again apologized for the delay. We were told that a new sauce for the nachos had to be made, and the kitchen had gotten backed up. All in all, I would say the service is very good and I wouldn't think the delay in our food is a common issue. I will have to go back again to see. Kuma is a great spot is looking for sushi in Los Osos.

Bowl and a Roll deal (weekdays 11-4, $20) is the BEST deal in town, possibly the county. High quality ingredients, super friendly staff.

Came across this gem while visiting the area. We sat on their beautiful patio, and thankfully, they had heaters as it was a cooler evening. They also had blankets available if you got too chilly. We enjoyed their Ramen selection, sushi, and tempura vegetables. There is a walk-up counter where you can order, and you can take your number and select your seating. I would have much preferred table service, but since it was a walk-up experience, nothing was missing.

My new favorite sushi restaurant by the sea. Kuma is a little hidden gem found on one of the back streets of Los Osos and is more than a restaurant, it is an experience. The staff and chef's are friendly and helpful. The food is rich and quality. And the atmosphere is quaint and colorful. I think I'll have to become a regular here.

Really really disgusting. Not a single redeeming factor. Insanely expensive for the most grotesque sushi I've ever endured. Order at counter and service is terrible. $19 for a teriyaki bowl that contains overcooked rice, slimy onions, bell pepper, and two pieces of broccoli, and absolutely no flavor. Also no sense of food safety standards; one employee was scooping rice into a bowl with his bare hand after touching various non food related items. Sushi chef was also wiping his hands on his dirty sweatshirt and grabbing items at the register before continuing to touch the food. He was pawing at a frozen block of fish with his bare hands. Fish was still frozen in rolls. Also just plating prepackaged gyoza. Spent $159 and left before the rest of our food came out it was so abysmal.

The best ramen i have ever had. I'm from las vegas and i would fly here just for this bowl of ramen. my friend lives in slo and i make a point to come here every time. service isn't anything crazy but the food makes up for it. the broth is phenomenal, the noodles are perfectly cooked, egg is the right consistency, so many topping options. 10/10.

The interior has an inviting decor, but seating is limited. There are also outdoor tables along the side the building. The Rock Shoyu Ramen had a good amount of noodles along with three good-sized pieces of pork belly (albeit a bit fatty), pickled fresno peppers & shallots, topped with green onion, an ajitama, umami-rich egg and a sheet of nori. The broth was complex with the duck fat and togarashi; it is noted the broth contains pork, chicken and dasmi. It was excellent. Their Beef Bulgogi Bowl was quite good. It consisted of four char grilled filet mignon skewers (2 pieces per skewer), kimchi, shredded carrots & daikon, pickled red onion, avocado slices, over herbed brown rice and topped with green onions, black sesame seeds, basil and a gochujang glaze. The portion was generous and quite filling. Service was friendly, and our selections were delivered in short order from the kitchen.

Chowa Bowl was one of our dinner stops this past Friday in Morro Bay, and overall it was a solid…read moreexperience--with one slightly annoying caveat. I ordered the Morro Miso Ramen (without the egg to keep it vegan) and added extra tofu. The broth was rich and comforting, with roasted garlic, miso, and chili oil bringing a really nice depth of flavor. The pickled corn was sweet and Fresno peppers added a bright, tangy kick that kept every bite interesting, and I appreciated how thoughtfully layered the bowl was overall. BUT... let's talk tofu math for a second. The bowl normally comes with just one piece of tofu (about 3-3.5 inches), which already feels a little light for a ramen. Since I removed the egg, I added three more pieces for $4.25. Totally fine...except now I'm paying extra to replace something I didn't want in the first place. Meanwhile, my husband's poke bowl, about the same price was absolutely loaded with fish. I mean... I get it, but also... I don't get it. Why are those of us who don't eat animals always doing bonus round pricing just to get a balanced meal? All that said, the food itself was good. My husband loved his bowl so much he was ready to go back again the next day. Me? I was more in the mood to explore other spots around Morro Bay, mostly because I'm still side-eyeing that tofu situation.Delicious, but the protein upcharge logic is...a choice.

Loved the variety of the cuts including scallops and some other unique cuts that we didn't recognize. The way the rice was prepared was a standout too. I did find a fish scale in my bowl though which was unfortunate. - Lunch Special Salmon Roll + 5 Nigiri (4/5): Solid generously portioned fish on the rice, but nothing else wowed us. Still satisfied. Nigiri included Tuna salmon, amberjack, yellowtail, and golden eye snapper. Overall (5/5): Came here on Friday for lunch and was seated after a short 15 minute wait - it was a lot busier than we expected! The parking lot was pretty small and full so we had to find metered parking nearby as the nearby parking structure was also closed. Service was good, though it was a bit hard to hear over the noise and music. The sushi felt super fresh and we loved the portion sizes - we were pretty impressed and we hope to return if we're ever in the area!
