The shrimp & grits was creamy and flavorful. The bhan mi with chicken was large and tasty. A little pricey. Very few tables. Friendly staff.

FUXS GIVEN = 5.0 ******************* Food = 5 I've been asking SLO county to give us flavor and Hungry Mother has responded. The food is everything I want in a meal. I've had the rice bowl twice and it will probably be a weekly staple. I went with the pork and nuoc cham sauce. I also highly recommend the pork and shrimp cakes. I'll be trying the bahn mi next. UX = 5 It sort of feels like you're stopping at a friend's house in the neighborhood for a quick bite. Open kitchen and clean simple vibes. Service = 5 Order at the counter with quick friendly service.

This place rocks! I had the opportunity to cater a lunch from hungry mother for a Office recently and the food was delicious. Healthy portions, reasonable prices. Healthy food. The arugula was so fresh and peppery, the pickled vegetables were right on point. A great blend of flavors. You would be missing out if you don't try the spot out a few times. The shrimp rice bowl was delicious, the shrimp and grits were a hit, and the bahn mi sandwich looked fantastic. Everybody loved their meals. It was nice to be able to order online for pick up and have a nice meal ready to go a few minutes before the promised time. I will certainly cater lunch from hungry mother more in the future as they offer a simple yet delicious menu.

Friendly staff and service. Nice area and atmosphere. The Green Curry was good. Vermicelli bowl was not great.

Don't overlook this little hidden gem. The food was delicious, fresh and scratch made. Service was excellent. We had the Bahn Mi with the shrimp and pork cake (crispy and hot!) and the green curry with lemongrass chicken. Prices are reasonable for this 'spensive little city of ours, and while the ambience isn't really date night it's certainly fit our week night vibe. Go hungry!!

Hungry Mother is a new spot in SLO and it's already a standout. I ordered the cold noodle dish with marinated tofu and the flavors were absolutely impeccable. The nam chok sauce was spicy as hell in the best way and so addictive I couldn't stop. The customer service was great too, super friendly, quick, and the space was clean and welcoming. This is exactly the kind of food I'm stoked to have in SLO and I really wish them the best. Pro tip: get extra sauce, you'll want it.

    Delicious unique drinks.

Hungry Mother is our new favorite! Not only the best food but the kindest people! Everything is fresh, healthy & delicious! You won't regret a meal here! The best lunch spot. We recommend the banh mi with the pork and shrimp.

The Bánh Mì is a sandwich made with a Vietnamese baguette. It is a must-try for foodies. It features a flavorful combination of rice vinegar pickles, carrot and daikon, cucumber, cilantro, jalapeño, mayo, and red curry remoulade. We were so hungry that we decided to swap half of our sandwiches with each other to taste both. To our delight, they were equally impressive. The flavors blended beautifully, creating a harmonious symphony of tastes. The freshness and perfection of the ingredients were evident, all crafted with love. The top sandwich is made with shrimp and pork cakes, while the bottom sandwich is made with lemon grass chicken. The knowledgeable staff at Hungry Mother truly knows what they are doing. We will definitely return to explore their other offerings and experience the delightful flavors they have to offer. We love the friendly atmosphere and can't wait to visit again soon. Oh and don't forget to say Hi to Allí

Stopped by for lunch. Did a quick pick up but staff was very friendly! Ordered the banh mi sandwich with chicken as the protein and it was very good! I would recommend and will be coming back soon to try more. :)

The broth was so savory with great depth and was delicious. The location itself was really inviting, clean, and with a very pleasant dining area interior design. The real star of this whole experience however was the incredible customer service and staffing at this establishment. All of the service workers were incredibly friendly, attentive, and enthusiastic to serve all of our needs even when we arrived around 40 minutes before closing. While the food and location are amazing, the atmosphere and experience created by the employees is what really elevates this establishment to the next level. I recommend this place to anyone wanting a comforting meal and uplifting experience in the downtown SLO area. I hope to be visiting again!

I've eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants across the…read morecountry, and my overall impression was that this felt more like a fast-casual or fast-food Vietnamese restaurant than a traditional sit-down experience. You order at the counter and are given a number. Since they weren't very busy, they brought the food to my table, which I appreciated. The prices were on the high side, though fairly typical for many Vietnamese restaurants in California. I ordered the pork platter with rice and fried egg rolls. The portion size was about right. The rice was fine--nothing particularly memorable. The pork was a generous serving and had visible grill marks, but it didn't seem freshly grilled. It appeared to have been grilled previously and then reheated. It was served hot, but the texture and presentation were not what I would expect from freshly grilled meat. Fresh off the grill would have made a noticeable difference. The egg rolls were crispy on the outside, but the filling was dry and fairly unremarkable. They weren't bad, but they weren't a standout item either. The plate also came with iceberg lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber, and pickled carrot and radish. The cucumber was fine, while the pickled vegetables were a bit more sour than I prefer. The biggest surprise was the dipping sauce for the egg rolls. Instead of the typical Vietnamese dipping sauce, which is usually one of my favorite parts of the meal, this version had quite a bit of chili added and was much spicier than expected. Some people may enjoy that, but it wasn't what I was anticipating. Overall, the meal was good, but not memorable enough to justify going out of my way for it. The prices felt a little high given the fast-food atmosphere. If I happened to be in the area again, I might stop in and give it another try, but I wouldn't make a special trip to return.
